Bread n board moved! They are now downtown in the vystar building. First thing is parking, where to park!?! There is street parking around the block, but it was all taken when I came, luckily I saw a parking garage on the same block as the restaurant, I parked in there and just figured I'd pay the fee, but when I went to leave around 8 pm it just let me out with no pay needed!? They might validate the parking too, I'm not sure? Walking in it's so pretty, way more space and tables then the 5 pts restaurant, you order up front then find a seat. They have a small fancy "Provisions " grocery store set up in the back with a beer/ wine bar...all really nice! The food was still great, ham and Brie board was delicious and enough for 2 meals for me, free kids meal with every adult entree is such a sweet bonus, us parents really appreciate that! I enjoyed my first visit to The Bread and Board. I met my friend and her daughters for pumpkin carving night last month. The ticket was $12, for adults and included a medium size pumpkin and a draft beer. I stood in line roughly 10 minutes to check in, sampled a couple of drafts and made my selection. I picked my pumpkin from the table and headed outside. This was my first time carving a pumpkin so I enlisted the help of my friends daughters for the gutting task. Once I finished carving my pumpkin I decided to grab a bite. I stood in line again for roughly 10-15 minutes. I ordered off the daily menu on the counter and decided to try the buffalo sliders and a side of mac and cheese. The sliders were juicy and deliscious. They included pickles and cheese and the bun was extra soft and fresh. The mac and cheese was a creamy delight of several different cheeses. Such gooey goodness! I liked the side of fresh fruit served with each dish. I also ordered a sweet bread made with apples and topped with chocolate chips. This had kind of a strange taste and didn't satisfy my sweet tooth. I wish I could have tried a little sample before I made my purchase. Been wanting to venture into Downtown Jax for a while, to see what great food I can find. This place was next on my list and i just had to check it out. First off, I've seen pictures of past menus and it seems they had a Korean baby back rib entree. It saddens me to not see it available anymore. Anyways, I love onions so getting the sweet onion hush puppies was a must. Solid hush puppy. The dipping sauce makes it better but I was hoping for maybe some more pizzazz? Again, it's a 5/5 hush puppy but I'm sure we can all think of another 5/5 hush puppy, maybe if the inside had some heavily caramelized onions in the center or spread throughout the dough, then that'd be epic. Now the entree, a quick guide, you can order the sandwich or get it deconstructed on a board (also comes with double the meat). So, I got the southern fried chicken board. I enjoyed mixing and matching everything in different ways instead of it all coming together as a sandwich. But you do you. Also, yes, it was delicious. 5/5 I also love how this place takes it up a notch and has their own crafted sodas. No Coke or Pepsi here folks. You even pour the sodas like beer taps. I've been hearing the buzz about The Bread & Board from family, friends, and added it to my must try places on Yelp, so after church on Sunday, we wanted breakfast and opted to give The Bread & Board a whirl. FYI, parking can be a bit gnarly (i.e if you can't find street parking or a spot in their lot, you're going to have to circle the block multiple times, like holiday time at the mall), so be prepared. Luckily, we saw someone leaving and snagged a spot. I walked in and LOVED the interior (rustic-chic-industrial...if there is such a decor). I looked at the menu and had a hankering for something sweet/savory, so the only logical choice for me was the cinnamon roll breakfast sandwich (egg, cinnamon roll, dijon mustard, cheese, bacon, ham). I also was super stoked and surprised to hear on Sundays that coffee is free. Mind blown, people. Another fun fact, kids eat free with an adult entree. Once again, mind blown. Free coffee and a kid's meal. What?!? So I ordered Nugget a scrambled egg with ketchup and toast. Our orders came out lickity split and my sandwich was ginormous. When I say ginormous, I mean it was a behemoth of a sandwich. I seriously could have split it with someone, and perhaps a stranger at another table. It was really that big. Everything from the cinnamon roll, egg, and the side salad tasted fresh. I bit in and I'll have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about the dijon mustard on a breakfast sandwich, but all the elements worked perfectly. I still love this place and designate it as one of my top 5 go-to places in the Riverside/Avondale area. The food quality isn't only good it's inventive. I love how they combine savory and sweet with great textures. It really is like no other restaurant/sandwich shop in Jacksonville. You order in the back at the cashier station over the glass display case showcasing the days pastas and desserts. Reading the chalk board you see regular menu items and new/seasonal items. They have a limited drink menu which is o.k. I've found the sangria a hit and a miss but others have enjoyed the beers. The filling station of teas and colas are a hit and miss at times as well but I come here for the food not drinks. I like the ambiance. Inside/ outside seating is great. Lots of light and good energy. However, it's been really hot inside the last two times I've visited this month. You sit with your number displayed and a server brings you the dish you ordered. All staff are very professional and kind. Parking is difficult. I have to admit I've given up on a few visits due to parking frustrations. As far as the dishes I can honestly say I like them all except for one. The Fried Chicken Wedge. It was dry and over fried just put on top of a bed of lettuce with a bland gorgonzola vinaigrette. My friend got this and it was disappointing because I wanted her to love this place as much as me. My pesto salad and Vietnamese Sticky Shrimp Banhmi board were amazing. Other dishes I enjoy; Applewood Ham & Brie sandwich Chickpea and Farro Fritter, Korean Style Baby Back ribs and yummy sweets. Bread and Board also have great events. Stopped in here on Sunday while we were out and about in the area. I had never been here so they explained how everything worked. I was going to order their Roasted Turkey & Crispy Avocado but they mentioned that they were still serving brunch so we had to check out that menu. Once I saw the Ham Benedict on the menu I knew that's what I was ordering. It was served on freshly made bread with a generous amount of ham, perfectly poached eggs and a hollandaise sauce to die for. I am very picky with my hollandaise sauce and theirs was one of the best I have ever had. It was served with a side salad that was also incredible. Simple but tasted great. My sister ordered the Cuban Hash that comes with Smashed potatoes, collard greens, pulled pork, cheese, two eggs and homemade pickles. Sounds like a strange combination but it was very good. She let me try a small bite. I think she would have slapped my hand if I tried to get any more. Finally had a chance to try out this place for lunch. It was a warm day so sitting outside was not a choice for me. This is a quaint restaurant with interesting decor. It was our first time so it took us a few minutes to choose. The lady taking our order was very helpful and fortunately we came late so we missed the crowd and not rushed. Finally I settled for the Tarragon Chicken Sandwich. It was delicious and the tarragon seasoning was just right, not overdone. The sandwich bread was so soft and tasty that I just gobbled up 1/2 the sandwich in no time. My friend ordered the fried chicken. I had a small bite and it was quite tasty and crunchy. Though I can't have greasy fried foods this was not greasy. It was truly a southern fried chicken. The restaurant is clean and well maintained and the decor is unique. Parking may be a challenge when busy. Overall our dining experience at Bread and Board was wonderful. I'll be back to try other items in the menu. This place is so charming.....I ordered the baked wings and chips, wings were cooked to perfection not dry but still crispy on the outside, they added just a little too I'm much season salt and that's why I gave it three stars made them a little salty to me. During my first visit, the menu overwhelmed me because there were so many exciting, unique options to choose from. After composing myself and checking out Yelp I decided to go with the Ham and Brie Sandwich. This sandwich is by far my favorite! Ham and brie has this succulent jam that coats your tongue with every bite. Add in the brie creamy texture with the semi crunch of bread while you're devouring this ham... I think this is my new favorite lunch item on the planet! It looks so simple but the flavors are so delicious. I don't think I can get ever tired of it. The house salad was okay! I like dressing than most people so it may have been better if I asked for additional dressing. So far, Ive had the Southern Style Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich, Grilled Shawarma style Chicken Sandwich, Fried Green Tomato on Ciabatta, Pesto salad and the Beet salad. So far, all have been quite delicious! Shawarma chicken... it doesn't replace shawarma from my favorite Mediterranean places but it'll do! It's a nice option to have here! I had the fish and grits with spicy collards. the fish was supposedly redfish and it looked and tasted like it. while the fish was flavorfull it appeared to be a tad over fried. the creamy grits were delicious and one of the better versions that I've had. The collards were outstanding though and were perfectly cooked and spicy enough that no extra hot sauce was required. My wife had the eggs Benedict. she liked them, especially the Applewood smoked bacon. the hollandaise sauce was less successful as it was kind of bland. this wasn't helped by the supposed ciabatta bread that replaced the traditional english muffin. it was a good idea but didn't work as well as it should have. the worst part of the meal was the management and service. the restaurant seemed disorganized and though restaurant wasn't more than half full, the service was slow and seemingly inexperienced. questions about food ingredients (like what kind of fish was used) were answered incorrectly and she had to go back and ask the kitchen. it would have been better if she didn't guess and just said she didn't know and asked in the first place. it didn't seem like management knew what was going on and they had inexperienced hostesses and wait staff. too bad as there is very few places to eat downtown on the weekend before dinner. read more

From the moment that we walked into the open indoor/outdoor dining space at B&B, we felt welcomed. As first timers, we looked to the staff for recommendations and they explained that Sunday brunches offer a rotating menu of items. At their suggestion, we went with the crispy cajun redfish and grits and the cinnamon roll breakfast sandwich. I loved that they have a Stubborn soda fountain and I tried a number of flavors during my meal. Our food came out quickly and the servers were just so polite, asking about our meal and offering to get me more soda. Even though this is a fast casual kind of place, Bread and Board understands that the customer experience is important. But, so is the food! And theirs is good and plentiful! The fish was so well seasoned and fried. It had a great crunch and flavor to it and it didn't get soggy despite its position between juicy collard greens and grits. The cinnamon roll was a little crunchy on the outside but soft and cinnamony on the inside. I got the honey on the side and even with the powdered sugar, it wasn't too sweet. The sandwich was huge and very savory with their smoked ham, bacon, egg, and cheese. The salad that was served with it lightened and brightened the dish and the biscuit that I ordered was soft and buttery with just the right amount of crumble. I had just gotten into town for a meeting and was by myself. Loved the casual atmosphere and it wasn't awkward at all to sit at the counter with the friendly employees. Emma was awesome. I have eaten here many times over the past few years with my wife, sister, and other friends and family. Bluntly put, the last two times I've eaten there I've been underwhelmed compared to my previous experiences which were amazing. So I am glad to see that this establishment made it through. today was the first time my sister and I have been able to go to lunch together since the pandemic and when searching around I came across my prior reviews and we decided to give them another chance to earn our lunch patronage such as it is. When we got there it was not crowded so were able to place our order quickly I mediately gravitated to the Korean short rib board/plate and my sister voted for chicken wings in two different flavors, One of them to be a Kung pao style and the other belgian ale buffalo style. The food arrived quickly in the plates as you will see were well arranged. We tried the ribs first: they were decent, crispy but not a lot of meat on them and the sauce on them was very salty. They came with bread and boards fabulous rosemary rolls, Quick pickles, rice, and a Kim Chee which turned out to be made of brussels sprouts. my sister said she is not a fan of kimchi but actually did like this version, I would've preferred a little more funk but it was fine. I let the roll get soggy which was not their fault so it wasn't as good, and the rice was well... Rice. The pickles were tasty but I felt like they were an odd accompaniment with Korean style ribs, as they needed more than like vinegar or a bite to pair with the saltiness of the ribs. The chicken wings arrived on the bed of greens which we did not touch. In reality, my sister and I had a hard time distinguishing between the two flavors of wings. Neither were particularly spicy or sweet or whatever flavor they were going for. The drumettes were huge so the portion size is nice for sharing, but otherwise will not be getting wings Should i return. we each had water so our bill came out to $32 which is a $16 per person per lunch which is above what I would normally spend at lunch. again I am glad they made it through the pandemic unfortunately though I probably will not be returning for a while given my recent food experiences here. read more

We were between the chicken shawarma and the cordon blue and chose the latter based on the recommendation of the two ladies at the cashier. It was excellent. I am not one for fried chicken but, like my husband said "someone knows what they're doing". The chicken was perfectly golden, crispy, not oily, juicy and delicious- easily one of the best fried chickens I have ever had. The bread was fluffy and moist. Cozy locally owned gem. I love coming here on a rainy day ( which happens a lot in Florida). The space is petite, but their is also the option to sit outdoors in a covered area. As for the food, well it's delicious. I think they have a great variety of options for the picky-est of eaters to the adventurous foodie. I love trying several dishes whenever I stalk a new-to-me eating establishment so coming here with my family for my birthday lunch was the perfect situation. And the prices are extremely reasonable considering the quantity and quality of the food. The owners are from Portland, Oregon, and we use to live by there, so we know the level of quality the food must reach to maintain a Downtown Portland reputation. I am a vegetarian, and I don't eat dairy, so I was very happy to see the Chickpea + Farro sandwich available. It wasn't quite a falafel, but it was very flavorful and moist with a beautifully crunchy outside. I could taste sweet corn in addition to the two main ingredients. I omitted the spicy yoghurt sauce, but it didn't need it, the sandwich had plenty of moist substance with the jam and tahini, whose flavors I enjoyed very much. It was a delight to eat. The only downside is that all the side salads came with Parmesan cheese sprinkled over it, and I had to pick off all the greens that were saturated. The kids meal actually turned out to be free, with a purchase of an entree, and we really loved that! My sister said the sauce tasted homemade. All the portions are HUGE; two people can definitely share a board, and maybe the sandwich too if they are small eaters. My family said the chicken was cooked very well, the skin and breading worked perfectly with the meat. We loved the flavors of everything, but unfortunately the bread was a little dry. We also got a side of fries, which were freshly fried and delicious, and white cheddar cheesy grits, which my family said tasted like Mac n cheese with the texture of Cream of Wheat. There is a marginal upcharge if you order as a board or bowl. They also serve side dishes and soups. The servings here are hefty. You have the option of getting sweet potato chips or spring mix salad on the side for most of the dishes. I got the buttermilk chicken plate and it was more than enough for one person. I thought it was good for the price point. There are outdoor picnic tables so that's nice given pandemic situation. However, the flies were a nuisance. There are also bees in the tree. The last two entrees (fish and then pancakes) came separately many mwith the latter arriving as we had to leave for the show. Took a box for the uneaten pancakes. I'd add the the fish and grits arrives with an overflowing plate, so much so that it spilled into the table and lap and floor as it was put down. If you leave this place hungry it is strictly your own fault. They offer a wide variety of sandwiches and salads as well as soup options. The sandwiches I will warn you are huge in portion size. I got the sweet tea turkey with jalapeño jam arugula green apple slices on a ciabatta bun. It was really delicious really thick piles of turkey all the way through. my husband got the turkey bacon sandwich which again piled high with meat lots of bacon and really delicious. Because there's a lot of bread my husband and I both ended up eating just the innards of our sandwiches towards the very end. We both opted for their in-house potato chips. I love them! They are thick cut. We also got an order of the hush puppies and I will say these hush poppies are huge. They are slightly bigger and the size of a golf ball and the garlic aïoli dipping sauce was absolutely delicious. My new favorite sandwich place in Jacksonville. Large portions of unique creations. You have options from banh mi, to cordon bleu, to cajun red fish, po'boy, chickpea and farro, etc. etc. and none of it is quite what you'd expect. I ordered the crispy cajun red fish sandwich. The fish is fresh and soft. It's broken up, but still nicely breaded, and there's a ton of it. The ciabatta bread is thick and comforting, but not too hard. The remoulade and zucchini pickles break through the flavor perfectly. The garden salad mix seems to be their own mix and is super fresh. It comes with almost no dressing, but has a fantastic subtle sweetness to it even without sauce. There's so many other things I could comment on. One of the first things a restaurant should consider is location and visibility. Apparently, Bread & Board's strategy was "I'll be hoppin' regardless, so Imma hide myself so only foodies can find me." Not only is the restaurant in a nondescript gray building with zero signage farther from the street, it's blocked by their giant.....giant.....it's called a pergola? I mean, okay, that's not entirely fair. It's their outdoor seating area, so that can act as an effective advertisement. But that means someone needs to be sitting there first, and no one was sitting there when I went. Is this owner really confident? Probably. Because of the pergola and other stuff blocking the front, the restaurant has this mild secluded feeling to it that you wouldn't normally get from this location. However, it also feels.....fairly stylish. Also, a paper straw! And nice silverware? The soda machine has no Coca Cola products. It's 'Stubborn' soda brand, which I've never heard of until today. It's got lemon berry açaí, black cherry with tarragon, orange hibiscus, and more. You normally have to search a little to find some of these fruit soda flavors in the U.S. Like, should I be drinking this out of a codd-neck bottle? Lol. It's a shame because they're delicious, much better than the ubiquitous orange, lemon-lime or, ugh, grape. If you're not feeling up for soda, how about something off of their massive wine list? Heh. The bread was toasted and had a crisp outside and soft inside. Well done. After reading more reviews we ordered a side of their homemade rosemary chips. I was told they make them fresh everyday. Be sure to try these. Great taste - just the correct amount of seasoning. We arrived a little after 11am when they opened. The place is getting busy. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and was expecting their brunch menu, turned out that brunch is only on Sundays! But nevertheless we still enjoyed our meals. I ordered The Apple Wood Smoked Ham and Brie, it was so good! The ham was a bit toasted and has a crunch which we liked! The salad was light and refreshing while the cheese is just a regular Brie that you buy in deli stores. We were both raving on their bread! It was NOT the usual bread with too much air inside, instead, it was dense and vey filling! Much better with butter, so better ask your server. Hubby ordered the Coffee and Juniper Brined Roast Beef. Beware- you'll be charged for things and not be refunded when they don't give them to you. Sierra, the front of house manager has been notified MULTIPLE times by my wife and I to please initiate a refund for a soup that was purchased and not provided. The owner, GM, and many people answering the phone have disregarded our requests and still- 9 days later have not received a refund. Food is good, but PRICEY for what you get. This is another place that I've been trying to get to but timing is everything. Parking in Five Points is at a premium and The Bread & Board only has designated handicapped spots and pick up for call ahead take out in front. You have to park on the street to eat here. (Do not park in the bank lot during banking hours, they will tow.) I didn't call ahead, but I had perused the menu and knew what I wanted when I arrived. The place is lovely, windows all open air that day because the weather was gorgeous. Everyone I encountered seemed to be friendly and the place was spotlessly clean. I ordered the Southern-style Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich (fried chicken, house pimiento cheese, white bbq, coleslaw and pickles, served hot) and with the choice of salad or chips, I chose the house made rosemary chips. (On that note, I think I'll try the salad next time. The chips were a bit on the brown side for my taste and there were quite a lot of them.) When I got home, after a short wait, the sandwich was still warm. It was wrapped quite nicely (see pictures), preventing mess from leaking from the coleslaw out. This was a VERY messy sandwich to eat, but believe me, it was worth it. It was very tasty with lots of savory layers going on. The chicken breast was fried crisp but was very juicy and not dry, the cole slaw was not sweet (thankfully) but added a nice different crunch. The pimiento cheese had a bite which was fun. Also, it's hard to tell from the pictures, but this sandwich was large. I really could have split it easily with another person and still have been satisfied. The prices here are a bit high, but I do feel I definitely got my money's worth with this sandwich. Just passing thru Jacksonville so used Yelp to find a healthy spot for lunch. Great sunny atmosphere. Food was waaaayyy good and more than enough. Only thing was the cashier clearly was not happy to be here but seemed to shake it off after getting a tip. Def will stop here during our next pass thru.lol read more

Wonderful place. Their ambiance is cozy, and the food is spectacular. Service was fast and professional. I had their chickpea fritter sandwich without yogurt and fries. The chickpeas were cooked to perfection! Highly recommend if you are in the downtown area. read more
