Since we are on a culinary journey this weekend, we decided to share one entree. We ordered the Eggs Noni , an eggs Benedict on top house baked rosemary sourdough, smothered in sautéed spinach with a lightly spiced Hollandaise. Accompanying the Noni was a potatoe pancake that I very much enjoyed. As you would expect on a Saturday morning, the place is too loud to have a conversation. However I would imagine it is a nice "intimate" space during a week day. It's not a small place. There are MANY tables and along with that many servers keeping the food rolling out at a decent clip. We did not have to wait at all. But there are now a couple couples waiting outside, for tables. Our server allowed us a chai latte as the check in offer since neither of us drink coffee. So kind. This was my first time coming here. There was a long wait so don't come too hungry! There's also street parking so it could be a little difficult. We waited about an hour before we were sat for a party of 5. The decor inside is really cute and that's what drew my attention to this place - especially the bathroom! I know weird, I was excited to the decor there. haha! The restaurant is very cramped at least the table we were at. It was a table for 4 but they added a chair so it was a very tight squeeze. It was like a combination of mashed potatoes and breakfast hash browns fried to the perfection of crispyness. now, the flavor had just a hint of a McDonalds hash brown! Had been wanting to try this place for awhile since it's near my home. Came on a Saturday around 10am and the wait was 20-30 minutes. As we left, the wait was much longer so try to come earlier if you can. Was deciding between the breakfast burrito or the French toast and decided for the first. It was super filling, insides were packed, and I got a generous portion of tater tots. Definitely would recommend if you want something more savory. They had three different hot sauces and I tried each. My favorite was the classic green one. I got a bite of the French toast and it was solid too! The waitress we had was very sweet and checked up on us multiple times. I think pricing can be a lil high but that's cost of living for ya in socal. Iced coffee was meh. We came here as a large party for brunch, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. First, one of the dishes came out with a hair in the food. The staff remade it, but didn't offer to comp the item, which felt like a basic courtesy that was missing. Second, the food overall was just average, and the portion size, at least for my dish, was noticeably smaller than most other brunch spots in the area. Combine that with fairly high prices, and it just didn't feel like a good value. Lastly, we discovered that the restaurant charged tax on the automatic 18% gratuity. That made the sales tax look unusually high (over 12%), which led to confusion when trying to settle up with our friend who paid. To my understanding, this is not legal under California tax rules. Tax should only apply to the cost of food and drinks, not tips. Altogether, not the experience I expect from a place charging these kinds of prices. read more

This was sooooo good if you like a sweeter coffee drink that still tastes really good! Waffle Combo - 4/5 because of the sausages but suuuch a good waffle. I liked the sausage but didn't love. The waffle was the perfect balance between fluffy and crispy. I really liked adding the banana with it! Definitely would order again. Pig Candy - 5/5. I moved to Long Beach just over a year ago and saw the Breakfast Bar as I drove around the city. My girlfriend and I decided to give it a try this past Saturday. We arrived and didn't have to wait, which was great! The decor is nice and modern and they actually have a bar! Although we didn't partake in ordering a libation, we did order food! We ordered the Uncle Marcees Omelette Casserole and the French toast. Both were very good and had lots of flavor. I never had an omelette casserole before but it was delicious. The texture was silky and similar to a souffle. Apparently it has eggs, cheese and bread. The French toast was made with sourdough bread I believe which was interesting. I'd prefer a brioche or something softer, however it was still flavorful. Service was good but not great. We had to wait slightly longer than I expected but the waiter was very nice and professional. Today must have been a busy and difficult day for all restaurants, coffee shops and stores because the Long Beach Grand Prix races were on their final day, so there were a large population of people from all over Southern California visiting Long Beach. With that being said, I myself arrived to Long Beach 1 1/2 hours earlier to beat that traffic and found my way walking up a sidewalk to The Breakfast Bar. What a fantastic surprise to find a classic old style cafe of sorts with a fantastic inside, outside and al fresco ambiance. The interiors were beautiful and charming, but here is where I was taken by surprise. Each and every staff member greeted me, asked me what I wanted and if I was okay. They were humble, kind, energetic and happy to see me. They looked me directly into my eyes, and talked to me genuinely and with a smile. I actually engaged a couple of them in conversation where they were very respondent and happy to reciprocate. I have never been here before and would be lying if I said I will visit there next year during the next Long Beach Grand Prix. Truth is, I will go out of my way to visit there anytime I am in Long Beach or just passing through. This place is perfect for brunch! They get really busy on weekends so be sure to plan accordingly or come early to put your name in. I'm not a huge breakfast food person but their food here is so yummy. They have a big variety and the menu is pretty diverse. Their potato pancake is absolutely to die for - 10/10 would recommend making sure you get that on the side with whatever entree you order! The shrimp bruschetta is something you probably wouldn't initially think to get here but it's absolutely divine. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Out of the two locations, I can only recommend this one on E. 4th Street. It's much newer and just a lot nicer inside compared to the original location. There's only street parking, but we were able to find free street parking nearby. There was no wait on a weekday for brunch but I can definitely see this being a popular spot on the weekends. Service was very friendly. It was obvious the restaurant was busy but we didn't wait too long for food to come out. The menu consists of your standard breakfast/brunch items, but there is plenty to choose from. * Waffle Combo ($18): one large Belgian waffle with berries, choice of proteins, and eggs. Got the naked cakes for $14, and I was worried I wouldn't get full, but the meal comes with 2 eggs and 3 sausages. I was stuffed. Everyone at our table was happy with what they got. Coffee was unlimited and my with loved her cappuccino. Staff was very attentive and I know that is hard when it is super busy, you know, like Sunday mornings. I don't mind paying a premium for great food and great service, but that was definitely not the case here. The real issue came when I tried to leave. My car was blocked in their tiny parking lot. The restaurant wasn't even busy, so I figured it would be a quick fix. I went inside to ask if anyone knew who the car belonged to--crickets. No one seemed to care or even bother checking. After waiting around for 15 minutes, I found out the car blocking me belonged to the manager. Yes, the manager. I asked several times for it to be moved, and when someone finally came out, they did it with major attitude and zero apology. Honestly, it felt like I was inconveniencing them for trying to leave their establishment. Good food or not, that kind of disregard for customers--and basic courtesy--is a deal-breaker for me. The hubby and I cruised over there on a Friday morning around 8 and there were plenty of tables. I got a Breakfast Sammie (really good flavor, huge) with a coffee (took advantage of their Yelp checkin deal for a coffee-based beverage), and the hubby got the Benedict Noni style (the egg was poached too hard but overall delicious). We are both fans of their potato pancakes, which are more like pucks--wonderful deep fried pucks of potato-y goodness. Add to that great service, nice decor, good music (for this GenXer fan of alternative rock anyway), and I do believe it's destined to become a neighborhood classic as it has in their first location. read more

This place is the reason I get on Yelp, to find these treasures that otherwise would be hidden from my life. I'm still sitting here right now writing this review. I wasn't really even hungry, just needed to waste some time before a business meeting. I ended up taking the server's recommendation ( she was also really great!) chicken and waffles. And.......I mopped it up, nothing left but clean bones. There's no point for me to ever go back to Roscoe's chicken and waffles..... ever. "The Breakfast Bar" has the best waffles I've ever had, and I've had a lot. They were just plain, no toppings no fillings ( although you can get some) just a little powder sugar.....but so delicious. Light, crispy, and it comes with a couple different syrups.... Forget about it. And the chicken.... Wow! Don't know about the rest of the menu, yet, but if you guys don't try the chicken and waffles here, then you're missing out. Nothing bad to say. Cute spot to grab breakfast in Long Beach. We were seated right away coming in on a Sunday morning at 8:30. There's a tiny parking lot on the side of the restaurant. We tried their 3/5 Chicken and Waffles appetizer. It comes with a sausage gravy, whipped butter and syrup. The chicken was a little dry and overcooked but seasoned well. The waffle sticks were delicious! And I believe they make their own syrup. Next, we got the Belgian Waffle combo with turkey sausage and Pancakes with pork sausage. I went here for the first time today and this is now one of my favorite brunch places in Long Beach! The ambiance is really fun and colorful. There's a huge bar with some TVs. The service is great - our server was so nice. I got the Eggs Noni and it was delicious. It came with a potato pancake, one of their signature sides - I HIGHLY recommend trying that with their jam. Their jam and hot sauces are house made. The cocktails look amazing too so I'll have to come back to try them. A lot of places in LB can have a long wait and this place is popular, but I went on a Sunday around 1pm with no reservations and luckily it was only about a 10-minute wait for a table for 4. Stopped by for brunch on a Sunday there were only two of us, so even though it looked like it was gonna be a long wait we were seated right away. There was a little bit of a mixup with our order. Somehow our server forgot to put my order in even though he repeated it back to me, so not sure what happened there, but once we got it cleared up, the food itself was delicious. My husband got their fries tossed in the deviled eggs, which sounds weird, but was amazing and I had shrimp and grits, which was also good. I'm still on the search for the perfect espresso martini. Had the Eggs N-E way breakfast and I loved the potato pancake the best. It reminds me of a salmon croquette but with mashed potatoes and spices. The outer layer was so flavorful and crispy. Came here with my bf on Sunday and the place was cranking. We got the avo toast and Belgian waffles to share and it was the perfect portion for a well balanced brunch. They served fresh squeezed OJ for him, and a vanilla latte for me. This was a great find. I came to get my car fixed and was looking for a place to grab breakfast. I saw this place was close by on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed.
