How are people saying this place is great? I've never been more disappointed in a cheap breakfast place in my life, and I've visited my fair share of divey breakfast places. I almost always order waffles, and I was served the saddest, soggiest piece of crap waffle I've ever seen. For TEN FREAKING DOLLARS PLUS. TEN BUCKS for a SAD SOGGY WAFFLE. 0 points for the crap presentation, btw. It came all by its lonesome on a filthy plate with a plastic to-go ramekin of butter on top. I'm eating in - serve my butter in ceramic or metal, the plastic was just the insult added to injury. The batter hadn't filled the cooking plates, so I was literally getting LESS than a waffle. It was a waffle, less than. SAD. I have never sent food back for fear of getting spit on the replacement so I've lived with a lot of disappointing food over the years. But this? This I had to send back. It was so soggy underneath. The waiter, poor kid - he clearly felt bad. 100 points to him and him alone for being so nice about it. 0 points to the unskilled schmucks in the kitchen who sent out a replacement waffle that was EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE FIRST. I finally gave up and just didn't eat. No point in paying for such a joke. You can see in the pic that most of the butter didn't melt. Because it wasn't hot. It was somewhat warm. I didn't bother with the syrup. I had him eventually take it away and it was comped on the check. I had high hopes for a place with such a great name. But the bathrooms were NASTY and our 1993 plastic tablecloth hadn't been cleaned SINCE 1993 and quite frankly - this place needs new management. I'd be ashamed to work in a place this disgusting. I'll definitely never return, that should be obvious. Put some damn effort into your plates. Clean tables, clean plates, a sprig of parsley and half an orange wheel with your waffles FFS. You're charging TEN DOLLARS for that?! Do I look like a sucker to you, Buttered Biscuit? Sprinkle some powdered sugar on that or something, damn. EFFORT. MAKE SOME. This place is pathetic. All covid-19 safety regulations were in place. Now for the yummy part. I'm a meat lover and I ordered the cowboy omelette and the shrimp and grits...I was totally satisfied with the portion size for both meals...they were both delicious and tasty! When I first walked in, I didn't know what to expect. Others was a "bar" type of feel (lil odd for a family breakfas), the staff were extremely friendly and very welcoming, that immediately changed my attitude and I began to feel a bit more optimistic. We sat in a dimmed corner and we were little past the breakfast rush so, the staff were very attentive and kinda spoiled us. I don't remember the waitress's name, but she was very, very good and they all work together to provide us an extraordinary service. Looking at the menu, you could tell that this was Seahawk country which made the ordering so much fun, poking at the Seahawks considered I'm not a Seahawks fan. They accommodated my two year old granddaughter very nicely and suggested some fancy hot chocolatefor her, which called her grumpiness immediately and cinsidering we are not used to being in the cold , especially when summer is nearing. The first thing that came out were cornbread the size of your head. And it was topped with the most delectable honey butter that I have ever experienced in my life. The cornbread was moist and delicious, very, very tasty. I could just eat the corn bread and be satisfied. But I didn't want this experience to stop just yet. I ordered the 12th man, which consisted of steak eggs potatoes Etc. The steak was done the way that I ordered it and it was quite tasty, it was a Tbone and meat was tender with delicious flavor. Breakfast was delicious, the service was great, the atmosphere was different, the price was decent and I enjoyed every minute of it. Service was great, but it was early on a weekday, and I was the only one seated. Food was meh. Home fries were frozen potatoes deep fried, overly done, and pretty dry. The chunky grilled onions and bell peppers were a good addition. The traditional eggs Benny: ok. The biscuits were not hand made and not split in half ( so no sauce could soak in), and the benny sauce was too runny. The ham was several thin slices of packaged deli ham. The poached eggs were perfectly done. But the runny hollandaise sauce was disappointing. Biscuits too dense and not split. Overall, less than expected. I think this place used to be pretty good. The buttered biscuit is a local treasure for Sumner. The folks who work and frequent this establishment aren't city folk. They're friendly, make eye contact and will say good morning to you even if they don't know you. The breakfast menu alone is worth the trip. The buttered biscuit's take on breakfast is neither low calorie, nor lacking in size and portion. The food here is piled high, and just when you thought you couldn't fit anymore gravy on that plate, they figured out a way to pile it on and keep it from running down the meat volcano on your plate they call a scramble. While we had an abnormally long wait for our food, I did enjoy the drip coffee they offer here which come to find out is Starbucks. Tasted to me like the buttered biscuit knows how to make coffee better than Starbucks. Seriously. When our food did arrive, as previously mentioned, I had ordered the meat volcano covered in gravy that sat atop a bed of freshly cut and cooked potatoes. They call this the train wreck scramble. If memory serves me right it was scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, onions, cheese, SOS gravy and chunks of chicken fried steak. I'm not even kidding. It was good, and I was only able to eat about a quarter of it before surrendering to the doggie bag. The staff was friendly, but the service was so slow and the amount of time it took to get our food was a bit excessive for weekday breakfast hours. read more

We went for breakfast, took the advice of other reviews & didn't feel like waiting in a long line ,so were the first ones there~6:15am, but not long after ppl started coming in. Before 7 rolled around, some ppl were waiting for the remainder of their party of 12 to join them. Cornbread- Best Ever!! It has some kind of sugar glaze or frosting on top with Lots of butter on top melting on to the sides, Yuuummm! (See the picture) Don't be a chicken-OMG! Didn't even look like it was touched when we packed the left overs. Country fried steak tasted homemade-for sure! Definitely not frozen! SOS gravy was one of the best I've had, again, homemade for sure! And then there's the gramma eggs, potatoes- love the sauteed onions in the potatoes & 2 biscuits! What a mouthful!! We had the pleasure of eating at the Buttered Biscuit this last Sunday. To say the portions are huge is actually an understatement....WOW. I would really like to thank our server Olivia and owner Tami for the extra care given to us. My wife has multiple food allergies and they we so accommodating, even to the point of showing us ingredients for their Crepes and were happy to adjust what they put in the mixture so my wife could enjoy them. They even offered to clean off part of the grill to remove the Soy Oil and cook all of my wife's food separate from the others. Our food came quickly, was hot and delicious. A fair priced breakfast for the quantity with corn bread that is just amazing in this quaint little corner of Sumner. There is a touch of honey or something in the butter for the corn bread that adds a nice twist to the taste buds. Sunday morning. They took our number for 2. We never got a call. Finally come and check. They say we didn't answer the phone. So anyway. We are told a table is ready upstairs and are pointed in that direction. We go upstairs the lady says pick a table and we have to find one ourselves. So we sit and wait. The next 2 people come in almost immediately after us and they are walked and sat and given menus. I have to go get my own menu from the counter. We also had to ask for the dirty table to be wiped down. Now the wait staff was polite but not very helpful. We have to flag someone down just to get coffee topped off. Let me start by saying I haven't written a positive review of a restaurant in a while. Since COVID customer service and from my experience cooks have been lacking to say the least. I drove 45 min to meet an old friend here as he had heard good things. I browsed the menu on line and had something picked out prior to going. Finding the place with GPS was a bit tricky but after driving around the block 3 times and going down a one way I found it. We were welcomed in and found a seat relatively quickly as they were busy ( 11am on a Friday just before Christmas). The bloody Mary's looked great but with a 45 min drive home I would pass this time. The waitress was very attentive and actually came back a few times to see how we were doing as we spent some time just talking at the table to catch up. Finally we ordered and she actually helped me change my order to something that sounded even better than what I had planned on getting. My friend had the grandma portion of chic fried steak and I had the train wreck. When it came out it covered the entire platter. Not plate mind you.... A platter. Wait wait.... Not sure how I forgot this but she brought out a chunk of corn bread the was covered in a sweet butter as a pre breakfast sort of thing. Dessert first as she called it. Without writing a huge novel that I've already started. It was the best breakfast I've had in years. I do travel a bit and am kind of like to eat good food. BBQ in KC and beef/game meet in Texas, lobster in cape cod and so on. The cooks took a simple dish of eggs, cheese,bacon and country fried steak and gravy and perfected it. To call it a rib sticker would be putting it mildly. I probably ate 1/4 of it and I could still fill every inch of a large styrofoam togo box. I ate from this for the next 2days and my wife even stole a few portions. How this place has just 3.5 stars is bewilderingly to me. I will drive the 45 min again to eat here again. I'm up north so my normal breakfast place is the Maltby Cafe which also has tremendous food. The Buttered Biscuit is my new breakfast go to. read more

The type of spot I only let people close to me know about lol the strawberry lemonade was BOMB, their cornbread was BOMB & their portions are soooo big to the point I usually only can eat about half my plate when most other spots I could finish my whole plate. The food was good. The cornbread was dry, but frosting was yummy. We ordered the Grandma CFS breakfast . We looked up the menu on Yelp the night before so we knew the price. Instead of the $13.99 price that was posted it was $18+. This is just to let people know not to rely on the posted menu prices. We didn't see a senior menu & forgot to ask (senior moment, LOL). First time here... location was cute and cozy, tucked away in Sumner. The restaurant is huge... they have an upstairs and lots of seating. Service was phenomenal. Very attentive and professional. But... the food. Omg, the food is just disgusting. I ordered the Jennifer? It's a burrito wrap with eggs, artichoke, avocado, etc. All I could taste when I bit into it was butter and grease. The eggs tasted old... portion is huge. I had that with coffee. My total with tip was $20... and I literally took two bites of my breakfast. I just couldn't stomach it. She was transparent and accommodated our 9 person group. She made awesome recommendations and got our meals out in a timely manner! Definitely coming back, especially to have her service. I met a friend for breakfast at this location. When the waiter asked what I would like to drink, I asked for a Diet Coke. He stated they had Diet Pepsi, and I said I would just have water. His response was, "I know, I don't like people who drink soda either" I was shocked as he said down next to my friend and began to tell us how bad soda is. I asked him to stop and he continued. Him made his opinion of me clear, and I refused to eat there, as I felt as if I was being judged for what I was ordering. I had a bad experience at this location several years ago and was prepared to give it a second try. Clearly that was a mistake.
