Waking up for a later than normal breakfast meant that our original destination had a line out the door. Because we woke up later than normal, that meant I was hungrier than normal. That is how we found ourselves at The Chalet. There were lots of cars out front and we took that to be a good sign. I've also seen the restaurant in the area for years so they must be doing something right. The Chalet serves up just what you'd expect for the neighborhood that it's in. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and their menu offers "standard American food" with a few Mexican options tossed in there. For breakfast you find everything you'd expect: egg dishes with sides of meat and potatoes, skillets, burritos, and omelets. The kinds of skillet, burrito, and omelet options you can get are all the same so basically you just choose your preparation. I went with a veggie skillet with a side of Polish sausage. Bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, and onions were served on top of a huge bed of mashed-then-fried style potatoes along with cheese and egg. Far too many potatoes for me, so if you also don't like a lot of potatoes, the better option is to choose the omelet. The Polish sausage was large, sliced in half and seared. Delicious. The restaurant was filled with an older clientele and the waitstaff seemed to know many of them by name. It was the kind of place my grandparents would've definitely enjoyed - their lunch menu consists of deli-style & fried sandwiches, grilled cheese, soups, and salads. I eat here at least once a month for breakfast sometimes more. The food is so good the place is clean the waiters are friendly and polite. There's always seating and the food comes out fast. They food is made exactly the way you ask. They always make sure your drinks are full. I recommend this place to all my friends and family. Great, reasonably-priced breakfast place and local diner. Beware the bougie hipsters hatin' on this place and it's-mostly senior clientele. Locals eat here. Friendly and attentive staff. Try the "Spanish" Skillet for breakfast - just about enough food for two. The cheeseburger for lunch is as good a diner burger as one can get and finish off with a slice of homemade pie. However, I was horrified to think of all the times I have eaten at Jimmy's when I saw the state health department rating of "F" on KBDI---multiple infractions, but the worst was the cockroaches! This was the worst eggs Benedict I have ever had. It said home made hollandaise sauce, it was the orangish color I have ever seen and it tasted like lemon lard, the eggs were fried not poached and some kind of ham not Canadian bacon was used. We have been coming to The Chalet for about 5 months and it became are favorite restaurant my kids love the strawberry wafles,pancakes, and the salads my husband is crazy about the Mote Cristo I've had it too and it is realy good but my favorite is the Greek Lemon Chicken, the lemon potatoes are to die for. and now I even call to see when their gonna have this amazing dish! I've had other Greek plates too but this my favorite we met Yanna the owner and she is a very nice lady she's made us feel realy good, every time we go its the same expirance the waitresses are amazing very friendly and they make you feel like if your eating at home the food comes out fast even when its busy we never have to waite long. The Chalet is definitely "diner-esque". No frills, and a favorite of the geriatric crowd. I can't think of a time we have been in here and the youngest by at least 30 years. That said, I have only had either the biscuit breakfast, or the gyros and eggs. Don't cringe, its a delightful breakfast. Don't expect white glove service. However, servers are both attentive and friendly, and above all quick. For the quality and amount of food you get, the price simply can't be beat. $22.50 for two huge breakfasts is at the top end of the price scale for gyros and eggs and veggie Benedict.......also highly recommended. The Chalet has recently been under new ownership, the new owners have refurbished the inside and outside. The food is very good in quality and quantity. The owners and staff are very caring of the patrons and there enjoyment. I enjoy the mixture of Greek, American, & Mexican food, and always have a hard time in deciding on what I am going to eat. I can recomend to anyone that this has to be the best place to eat out in the economy that we are in. I take all my friends there when they are hungry. They serve Breakfast from open to close and that is one of my favorite things to eat at anytime, but there lunch, & dinners are just as enjoyable, the specials are great!!! We went here for dinner in a large group which can be daunting. The food was served very quickly, hot and amazing! The service was great, our sodas were never empty. Things obviously have changed here since people gave the good reviews. I went here twice for breakfast and thought it was okay. (Avoid pancakes as syrup is completely devoid of flavor, as are pancakes, and cakes are a bit rubbery. Biscuits and gravy were good. Waffle with fake blueberry gunk was pretty bad. Bacon was great). Then, I went here a third time. We sat ourselves and the bus"boy" came around to offer us coffee refills when we had not even received menus yet--and obviously had no coffee cups. The somewhat rude owner was taking an order at table next to us and came over to give us menus. We ordered waters, a milk, cranberry juice and an apple juice (I cannot drink orange or cran on meds). The woman tried to be polite but cared more about being in a hurry and never made eye contact nor smiled. Seems very harried and unhappy. (Other wait staff is actually very sweet and friendly.) She ran off after we ordered our food too and then the busser flew by our table, slamming our drinks, hard, on the table as he flew by, not stopping. He gave me orange juice. When a waitress walked by, I said, Excuse me, I ordered apple juice, I cannot drink this. Can I get apple juice please? And she was nice and brought me apple juice. In the meantime, the glass of milk my boyfriend got was WARM--room temperature (health code violation number one). And then not 5 feet away, we heard the busser say about me, "THAT DUMB LADY GOT WHAT SHE ORDERED AND I BROUGHT THE RIGHT THING IN THE FIRST PLACE!" Needless to say, my appetite was instantly gone at that point as I felt incredibly unwelcome, unwanted and mistreated. I never touched the apple juice at that point as I truly felt it likely that someone that angry and nasty had possibly spit in it. The food came and the blueberry waffle was missing the whipped cream. The blueberries were nasty, (she called it blueberry compost not compote, and compost was much more accurate frankly.) Because of the nasty comments by the busser, I could not touch my omelet which was not an omelet actually but eggs with ingredients mixed in and three sad strips of melted American cheese placed melted on top. (Not an omelet which is folded with ingredients in the middle). Still, I waited for my side of pancakes I had ordered instead of toast, which was delayed. She brought that and ran off almost before I could just ask for boxes. She never asked if we needed hot sauce or anything. A couple minutes later, after the food had been sitting on our table, she came back and said, Excuse me, someone else ordered chocolate chip pancakes and I may have taken the wrong ones..." then SHE PROCEEDED TO LIFT THEM UP AND LOOK UNDER THEM WITH A BUTTER KNIFE, THEN SAID "OH, YEP, THESE ARE THEM! SORRY ABOUT THAT." AND SHE TOOK THE PANCAKES FROM OUR TABLE AND TO ANOTHER TABLE! We were shocked. This was health code violation number two! You cannot serve food that has been on another customer's table!! Obviously. Not to mention, how goddamned lowlife to go to someone's table and pick at their food!!!! Flabbergasted does not cover it. There are no words. At this point, my boyfriend shoved his food down, downed his juice and the milk he had had to add ice to, and he went outside so he didn't lose his shit at the register. I went to pay and she asked how was everything--totally unaware that we had not spent enough time there to eat, that I had not touched my food and asked for a box the instant it was delivered and I told her it was terrible and by the way I never got my pancakes I was still waiting for. She snapped at a waitress to get it for me. I told her about the nasty comment and attitude of the busser (whom I had also seen wipe tables, then place the silverware, then USE THE CLEAN WRAPPED SILVERWARE TO RUB SOME FOOD DEBRIS HE MISSED OFF THE TABLE, THEN PLACE IT THERE FOR THE NEXT CUSTOMER). She really didn't care, just acted like a cocaine filled manic crazy woman, ringing me up as fast as possible (this is the owner, mind you), said she hoped I had a better day. She really didn't apologize. She did not acknowledge the pancake business. Did not say sorry for never bringing the side of pancakes. No apology for the shitty comments of the nasty busser. I told her straight up I did not touch the juice since I wondered if he's spit in it. She said she hoped I had a better day and took my money and made my change! I honestly have no idea who would have such low standards for themselves and such low self esteem that they would ever want to spend money in a place so nasty, violating so many health codes, and so rude. The decor is nasty and in dire need of updates. It is not Kitschy, or retro. It feels like a lot of old people lived and died there and no one bothered to update or clean out their old cheap crap on the walls. It is still the same old junk from the late 60s and early 70s. And looks like it has not been cleaned in as long, either. I will obviously never go back. I hope no-one else does either. Scary place. read more

Great combo breakfast of Greek gyro meet with eggs and great fried potatoes. Even came with the Greek sauce and choice of pita or traditional toast or muffin. Atmosphere is what everyone else states. my husband and i decided to try some place new. we stopped in and had lunch at the chalet. we both had the special. i had chicken salad n avacado he had tuna salad stufed tomato. mine came with cottage cheese fresh fruit. we both had the chicken soup. we were both impressed with the food and the waitress was great. she told us what was good on the menu and we took her word. glad we did we both left full and were both satisfied with the portion of food. we will be back read more
