Overall a very nice little boutique hotel located on Boylston Street. I liked the contemporary decor even though the rooms were a bit small. But in a way that only added to the charm. Good A/C and the tile bathrooms were fantastic. But you do not want to come to your room hammered late at night. The floors feel a bit uneven as you wind your way through the narrow hallways. I knocked them down a few stars because of the lame ass martini bar downstairs. I looked at the menu and it is just one sweet, gunky attempt after another. If you have to sweeten up your drinks that much then it must be for a reason. Not my thing. If I want a martini I'll stick with the classics. read more

Hosted a Holiday party at the Charlesmark last year, and we had a good time. The food was great, we were offered a combination of catering and Thai food so went with cheese and veggie spreads along with spring rolls and Chicken Satay. The Chicken Satay was so good. I must admit I initially turned down meat on a stick but was glad we listed to their suggestions and changed our mind. Great location, pretty central and close to the T. Loved the white banquettes and red accent pillows. Really great venue for a small cocktail party, but the one downside was that we couldn't control the music. We love a good dance party, and so that would have made the night even better. read more

Wen here with a few people to grab a drink, and you definitely feel like you've walked into a posh place the moment you step in here. There is red velvet covers on the chairs, it looks super trendy and modern, and then this club music starts bumping throughout the bar that makes you want to get your groove on, almost like a club scene on Boylston, but then you realize that you are in a hotel bar and that this really is not a dancing kind of place. There wouldn't even be room for it even if you tried. But that music almost made me and another girl in our group want to leave to find somewhere to dance, if that means anything for your business plan, Charlesmark ha Drinks are not cheap here either. Wine is around $9 a glass. The few beers they have on tap are $5.50 which is average, but most cocktails start at $10 it seemed, so not a place to start your night, unless your date is paying ha ha But definitely a semi cool spot to stop at if you are bar hopping in the area. I am a resident and I work in back Bay. I frequented this establishment. After having some wine with friends we asked for bill. I received my bill for $30. I graciously left $40. ( Mistake #1 ) We were leaving and bartender asked us to pay for another person's bill that they walked out on. We were then accosted and basically yelled at by the staff for bar staff not doing their job. A bartender tends the bar. If you can't tend to the bar, find another job. I would say bartender and management need some training on customer service. We were followed out of bar being yelled at, were they looking to get physical? I'd say yes. My female friends were afraid of a physical altercation. I couldn't believe what was happening. The bar is dump anyway, there's no food and the staff is pathetic and aggressive to the point of physically fighting their guests. Plenty of hotels and bars in the area. DO NOT GO HERE read more

A somewhat sleek and small bar with a good amount of lounging space is offered. This is a great alternative to sports and Irish bars to watch a game. They have a huge screen in the back. I was there for the JAC @ NE game and they had free pizza from Upper Crust!! The bar service and the drinks are OK. I guess I was expecting more professional service and better tasting drinks. Came here in February for a weekend in the big city with my girlfriend. The location and the service at the Charlesmark are both superb. I really felt like the staff were happy we were staying there for the weekend. The location is right on Boylston Street, which is central to just about everything in the Hub. The rooms are small, but very clean and well decorated. The bathrooms were fantastic...a nice, large, stone-tiled shower. The front desk was very helpful both nights we were there. They never seemed annoyed that we were asking their advice on where to go for brunch, etc. Downstairs there is a lounge area and bar. The bar seemed very eclectic and hip. On the second night we went to see a comedy show. When we got back, we hung out in the lounge area and enjoyed some wine. There is a second floor to the lounge area where patrons can sit in large comfy chairs and/or couches. It looked like they had a large flat screen that simulated a fireplace, which made it seem cozy. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would go back. The Charlesmark is a boutique hotel that offers great customer service and is an ideal location. We got an excellent rate. The only drawbacks are that they do not offer their own food, however, they provide a list of places you can order for room service or dine out. The other draw back is that the rooms are small. Parking is on the street only, and there is no valet service. Technically, I would give 3.5 stars here, but alas, they get 3. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at the Charlesmark. I was in Boston for just one night while I was in town for a blogger meetup taking place in the hotel's lounge, so I decided to make an evening of it & stay. I got a cheaper rate on Hotels.com than I could through the hotel itself, $169 for one night, booked the day before - not terrible. The hotel is very easy to get to & is directly across from a T stop, right near the library. The hotel is small & posh; the front desk employee was incredibly friendly & helpful, & I like that the door to the hotel is locked & can only be opened with an actual key, not a keycard. My room was cute & surprisingly spacious, with a GIANT mirror & mood lighting. The bed was crazycomfy, & overall, I was very happy with the whole experience. One-star deduction for the lack of room service. I ordering Maggiano's through Dining In, but it took forever. Wish I could've just gotten someplace from someplace nearby, but I had no idea what was around! read more

Averages out to 3.5 stars The last time I was at Charlesmark (either on Friday or Saturday), the place was pretty dead despite it being only 12:30ish or so. The service and the drinks were decent enough, but it was kind of unsettling that it was so dead at such a peak time so I hadn't thought about going back for a long while.... but I found myself in the area recently and decided to give it another shot. This time, the place seemed a lot livelier (not to the point where it gets obnoxiously loud and I can't hear the person a foot away from me despite their yelling). We didn't really intend to stay, but we ended up lounging there for a while and it was relaxing. Also, the blueberry lemonade = deliciousness. I can't believe I didn't notice that on the menu before. The bar itself area is fairly small and crowded on a Friday or Saturday night, so I wouldn't recommend bringing a group. The room is spaced well, chic furniture and VERY comfy pillows/bed. Modern look and paintings about it. This review is based on the bar & lounge, not the hotel. You know what gets 5 stars at the Charlesmark? The Dancing Bear martini! There are only a few cocktails that I pine for, that I could write sonnets about, and this is one of them. It's fruity and pink and has 5 gummi bears (I love gummi bears, LOVE, especially the white ones) speared on a toothpick balanced over the drink like little piglets roasting on a spit over a tasty blush-hued fire. Amazing. Actually the entire cocktail list is great. Another high scorer is the blueberry lemonade martini. The upstairs lounge area is a perfect place to, you know, lounge. Seating is cushy, there's usually not too many people around, so you have some privacy. My first date with my former BF was here, so it holds a special place in my heart. Weird thing though: there's a bank of PCs set up on one wall of the lounge, so during our date one of the guests in the hotel was surfing the Net in her PJs right next to us. Tip: The food is from next door at Bangkok Blue. Just go eat there. read more

This review is for the Charlesmark Hotel bar/lounge. Decor is minimalist/modern. One thing that is quirky about this place is a lot of the furniture is square. Square benches by the bar, square couches. Really not much to report other than that. The lighting is dim wiht little colored spotlights. The main bar area is downstairs. Stairs lead to a second level with a much bigger lounge area. There is an outdoors area that is good for the summertime and smokers. The problem I see here is Boylston is just perpetually busy so sit outside at your own accord. I was here for an engagement party. We had the place all to ourselves and it was intimate and nice. The size of this place is really deceiving because the upper area is quite roomy. I recommend this place for small parties and get togethers. read more

This review is only for the bar/lounge - I went there a few weeks back for an after-dinner cocktail with my friend, and we both enjoyed the drinks and the atmosphere. The decor is modern/trendy - I was underdressed, but I knew that going in, and sometimes I judge a place by how well they treat an underdressed customer. Service was excellent - the bartender was quick to take our orders, quick to deliver our drinks, and helpful with describing the drinks and the specials. The cocktail menu had a lot of sweet-sounding, girly drinks, but they do make a great Negroni. I had two. Music isn't too loud or too distracting, and the lighting is perfect date lighting - bright enough that you can decipher expressions, but low enough that you won't have to worry about your date noticing that you've used about a gallon of undereye concealer. I'd stay here again. On a business trip I stayed here for a week, room was nice and also the amenities. I did have a co-worker stay here as well and her room was much smaller than mine. She would have to walk around her bed to get to the other side, but you get what you pay for. Hotel was in walking distance to everything! I loved that and the lounge wasn't bad either. Caught a few drinks there at the end of the day and met some cool people from other states. It's an older building that's been renovated at one time and you have to expect it's not going to be a Four Seasons. Front desk was very helpful and courteous to me at all times. read more

The scene on a Thursday night pre-game was quiet and and music did not get me at all ready for a night out. But a comfortable couch area to chat with girlfriends or go on a date. I stayed at the hotel here....it's a nice boutique hotel. The rooms are small, but if you're staying by yourself or with one other person, it works great regardless of the size. The bathroom was nice and the room was clean. The internet works ok, good enough to check your email, facebook, twitter, etc. but not very fast that you can expect to watch Netflix or stream movies with. Good customer service, and the bar downstairs is also a plus. There's also a lounge downstairs that works well too if you just want to chill and hang out with friends at the hotel. The location is also great, as it is within very good proximity of the Boston T (Trolley and Subway), so you can get around town very easily. This review is for the hotel. Small boutique hotel highly recommend by a friend, at Copley Square in the heart of Back Bay, lively neighborhood. Similar to Santana Row in San Jose, CA. Conveniently located to shopping malls, restaurants, and the Copley station. Famous Boston Public Garden and Newbury street are within walking distance, also the hop-on, hop off tour bus stop. The Boston Public Library is just across the street. It offers complimentary internet access, continental buffet breakfast consist of fruit, and cereal, guest computer and printer in the lobby. Receptionist is friendly, courteous and helpful. Asked her to call taxi to the airport and she promptly got me one, taxi fee is about $20 to the airport. My room is irregular shape, quite small with bold color. Nice touch of radio/CD with speaker on the bathroom. The bathroom was unexpected in size, almost as large as the sleeping room. The hotel has a cocktail lounge and outdoor patio. The concern about possible noise from visiting patrons on the cocktail lounge could be heard from the room is invalid. AVOID room 507, the floor in room 607 is insanely sweaky and will keep you up all night. The bar and food from Bankok Blue is good if you want a night spent in the hotel. The Charlesmark was conveniently priced and located for one night in Boston with walking access to shopping on Newbury St. and public transportation via green line at Copley station. The bedroom and bathroom are both small (feels like a college dorm) but they've done a nice job with optimizing the living space. The room was clean and ready earlier than expected. The internet isn't great but it's free. The hotel has a small public cocktail bar in the lobby with decent drinks. First time in Boston. We found this hotel in an article regarding traveling Boston. Will stay here next time we come to Boston. Location is GREAT in the heart of beautiful Back Bay. Variety of shopping including high end stores and a Walgreens. We walked to everywhere from the hotel and so can you. This included walking to and from Fenway to walking to the start of the Freedom Trail (walked the whole thing and then transit back to hotel). Public transit is easily accessible for getting to and from airport and when you want to use it to get around Boston. Staff and service were pleasant and helpful. Hotel was clean and had a great atmosphere. It is a boutique hotel. Rooms were nicely designed and comfortable and a great value. They were small, but it is Boston. Needed a reasonably priced hotel to stay with less than 48 hours notice. The gentleman I spoke with was very nice and helped me quickly. Upon arrival, the front lobby area and bar were very nice. Clean, inviting, but small & cozy. The rooms are really only made for 2 people because they are small, however it is a great location- very convenient to walk most places and I felt safe walking around at night in the area. The rooms were kept very clean and super cute. They had Comcast tv with so many channels, surround sound, a beautiful shower with excellent water pressure. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends coming to the area! read more

This review is for the bar alone. A coworker and I were passing by and realized we hadn't been here before, so why not stop in and have a drink. We both had been craving sangria. We walked over and asked the bartender if he had sangria which he said yes. We were excited. We sat down and ordered two sangrias. As he was making them he tried one of the ingredients to see if it was still good which since I have bartended before means that this was not checked at the beginning of the shift and is a bad sign when it comes to rotation. The gentleman brings over our sangrias and the politely brings over a little thing of chex mix (forgive my spelling). It was very cute and the presentation of our drinks were on point. He then walked away to go back to playing on his phone at the end of the bar which is fine considering we all secretly do, but usually in the back. We take a sip of our sangria and it was very sour and way to floral. I wanted to ask if this is how it is supposed to taste, but our bartender disappeared. So we sat there not drinking it and then waited.... And waited..... And waited. When he did return he went back to the corner of the bar and hung out with either friends or regulars, not really sure. So now we realize we aren't going to be able to ask and we would never send back a drink because in the industry that's a no no, so we chugged it back and waited again for the check. Once again we were ignored for a bit. Finally he comes over and doesn't even acknowledge our drinks are empty, so I just ask him for the check while he begins to clean a little. He makes a joke and says only one ladies? I grab the check and look at him and say you may want to try your sangria because it's terrible and something's off on it. He gives me a nasty look and doesn't apologize. He goes and makes himself a sample and he also didn't look pleased with it. So then I hand him the book and he now looks mad at me and irritated! Seriously?!?! Is because you think i won't tip you for your bad service or for the terrible drink? Well even despite that lovely exchange I still left a $6 on $16 because I get it, but don't plan on coming back to this place because unless your a regular they won't pay you attention even if it's dead on a Tuesday night. Marijuana Motel - Pros: Clean, nice sound system in room, great location in Copley Square area. Friendly staff. Cons: Smelled like marijuana in elevator. Hallway on 5th floor, where our room was, smelled like marijuana smoke. Two separate times coming in and out it seemed that way. Eventually the smell of marijuana smoke started coming through the HVAC vents. We called down to complain and they said they'd "look at it." I don't like any kind of smoke smells, but somehow certain people think marijuana is ok. I don't agree. If you love marijuana The Charlesmark is for you. read more

After passing by this funky little hotel patio many times, i finally decided to go in and was even more pleased to see that the lounge in the back and bar was decorated with such modern class. The drinks are fun and the bartenders and owner is even more fun! I recently held a 90 person event at the hotel lounge/bar/patio and it turned out AMAZING! Everyone was so helpful and accommodating, the food was great and most of all the guests had the best night ever! I had a girlie after-work drink with a friend on a summer evening at the Charlesmark. I was afraid it would be mobbed with tourists, but it was actually almost empty (maybe because I was drinking on a Monday). The decor was nice, with cushy modern bar stools. We enjoyed our tasty lemon drops on the patio and ate thai appetizers served by a friendly cute bartender. I'll be back for the patio and people watching. read more

I had a bad day last August that was somewhat salvaged by the Charlesmark. I crashed my Audi causing $10K damage going 2 miles an hour in an underground parking lot. Since the car was AWD you need a flatbed to tow it. Flatbed trucks do not fit into underground garages with low clearance. By the time I fliggured this all out I had missed the last train home and was stuck in the city. I had passed by the Charlesmark many times so I went straight there, and checked in. I ordered Thai from the place next door planted myself on a barstool and proceeded to get very drunk. This is a great lounge and the location is as central as can be. I now find excuses to meet people here and drink vodka martinis. The rooms are very hip, sort of W-lite with free broadband(kinda slow) and SAT radio and TV. My room was about 1.5 the size of the one I stayed at the W in Union SQ in NYC or the one I stayed at in SOMA, SF. The Charlesmark staff don't have that W-tude either. Everyone from the desk clerks to bartenders to maintenance people and managers were very nice and not phony about being so. BAR: 5 stars Hotel: 4.5 stars great value for the $ read more
