My favorite restaurant in all of SW Florida! The food is ALWAYS amazing, the service is fantastic (same servers for years). They don't take reservations when the pre baseball season is here, for obvious reasons (The Boston RedSox play in FM)! It is really a must for people who love the sea food from the Boston area. Coming from New England and hearing about this seafood restaurant with Ipswich Fried Clams and has Boston sports memorabilia hanging all over its walls. I was very excited to give it a try. Friday, March 27th my wife and two friends left Sebring driving the two to Fort Myers to go check out the Clam Bake for some long awaited delicious seafood especially looking forward to some fried Ipswich clams. Entering The Clam Bake, looking around, I saw a very nice variety of Boston Sports teams pictures and memorabilia on the walls. The waiter was prompt though not very personable. The waiters response to the two questions was as i was asking stupid questions. Regarding the food. I ordered a salad with Russian dressing and received Thousand Island dressing. I ordered Fried whole belly clams and a baked potato The baked potato seemed to be a day old left over baked potato reheated. Instead of clams I received Fried Oysters. When I asked they assured me they were clams. My wife ordered Fried Sea Scallops with a baked Sweet potato. She received what looked to have been frozen Sea Scallops (that were just Ok) and a "half" of a small Sweet Potato. I ate the salad as Thousand Island Dressing still tastes good, though I prefer Russian. It would have been nice for the waiter to let me know. I ate the potato as I have many times had cut up left over baked potatoes as home fries, and they are good. I did not eat the oysters. A bus person came by and cleared our dishes., did not ask if my dinner was ok as the oysters were still on my plate. Over all opinion: The decor is New Englandish, Service over all ok. The food is ok. Just don't expect the quality of the seafood to be anywhere as good as what you can find in New England. I will not be returning. read more

Enjoyed our visit to the clam bake. We were able to score a reservation for a Sat night in early April (still in season). It was honored right on time even with a crowd waiting outside. Inside was packed! Not an empty seat in the place. Service was prompt and very attentive. Food was very good, just like visiting a New England seafood restaurant. Steamed clams were a real treat. I visited the Clam Bake on my visit to Fort Myers because an Uber driver from New England recommended it. For an appetizer, we got the steamed middle neck clams, and they were absolutely delicious! They were listed as MP, which is always scary, but was pleasantly surprised to find that a pound was $16.99. The fried Full Belly Ipswich clams I had for a main were really good as well. I would definitely order them again. I tried my dad's clam chowder and thought that it was just average. I won't be ordering that. I'm recovering from a broken knee, a broken femur, and a broken hip and the hostess assumed I was intoxicated while she watched me walking through the parking lot, and therefore decided she would not serve us. They proudly display their "Black Lives Don't Matter" flag in the front window. Owner said they relocated from RI to FL because the fire safety regulations were too stringent in RI, so choose your emergency exit route(s) when you sit down. The service was extremely slow, it took at least 10-15 minutes before we were waited on. My husband had the salad with no tomato and received his salad with the tomato. I had the New England clam chowder, being from the Northeast we know good seafood, the chowder was fair. We both ordered the Broiled Scallops, he had au gratin potatoes, I had baked potato. Au gratin was about a tablespoon full, my baked potato was very small, we had about 5 sea scallops each, cut in half to look like a lot, definitely not worth the so called MP of $40.00 each, and we don't mind paying MP if it's great and worth it. We didn't even get any bread basket. Ambiance? There is none, unless you call some pictures of lighthouses ambiance. I will not return nor will I recommend this place to anyone that knows real New England food. Waste of our money for what we received. The Clam Bake 11-27-24 Arrived around 3:20pm on Wednesday afternoon at The Clam Bake Ft Myers Fl. This place was not full but very clean and neat. I did feel it was a little dark in this place. I got a New England vibe from the decorations on the wall near the bar. We sat at the bar and had a couple mixed drinks while there. They were very good, and the beer was cold. We moved to a table and our waitress can over fast for our drinks orders and returned quickly for our food orders. I ordered the Boiled Haddock with a cup of Clam Chowda and a Salad. My wife ordered the same. Our waitress was on the ball filling up our drinks while we waited for our main order. Our food ordered came out fast. The Soup was hot and good, but we felt it was a little skimpy on the Clams. The Salad was ok, it just didn't look that fresh to me. My Haddock was good and hot but once again we thought it was a little small for the price. The food here is not bad but for the cost the potions could have been larger. Right as we walked in the smell was hard to ignore, the place is very dimly lit, our onion rings came out quick; breading was crumbly and fell right off, tasted fine but nothing special. Onto the lobster rolls, those took maybe 15 minutes or more, I got mine cold with butter, it was packed but flavorless, not a bad texture but not worth the price at all, needed to add salt to the butter too, the corn on the cob was the same way, would not go back. Sent a side back, the 1st time, however, the worst was finding three strands of human hair in the stuffed shrimp. They offered no charge for the appetizer and brought him another meal. The worst I ever had. The chowder sour and ready to break. The belly clams were old and busting open with black oily eggs. Clams spawn in the spy, but , this is caused from being old. I know what I'm talking about because I owned two restaurants and a wholesale seafood company in Boston for over 35 years. I've voiced my concern and was told by the wait staff it was because they were "mud clams" that was a total bullshit. Yes in the spring the bellies blow up because of the spawn however, they don't bust open black unless they've been around for a while. The membrane holds that in when they're fresh , as they age that membrane weakens , I call them about an hour after I left and suggested that they might want to take those off the menu, again they defended, but the excuse that their chef was a graduate of Johnson and Wales. I thought I was doing them a favor, letting them know without causing a scene. As a restaurant owner, you always worry about the complaints, you don't get because they don't come back anymore.
