Love this coffee bean! I'm back visiting from Miami but this was always my favorite go to Coffee Bean. It's nice to see that they have done some upgrades here- mostly in regards to the seating. I heard through the facebook grapevine via a writer for the Montrose Patch: http://www.montrose.patch.com that Helen Mirren, Anthony Hopkins and Scarlett Johansson were doing some scenes for a Hitchcock film at none other than Fayes which is adjacent to Coffee Bean. I decided even though I had my fill of coffee I would bite the bullet and grab a decaf latte, a chair and see if I could get a glimpse of one of the Brits. In this case I guess the early birds caught the worm and nothing was left to see by the time I got there. The British did bring their rainy weather and closed up shop by 10:30 a.m.. Nice place to bump into friends though. There was no celebrity sighting to be had unless they were right under my nose at the Coffee Bean. My only recommendation for Coffee Bean is to get more of an indie vibe going and create some latte art in real ceramic, not paper cups. read more

We've been spending more time in this area since last October when we became members at Descanso Gardens. Visited this CBTL on 3/13 as a refuge from the jam-packed Descanso parking lot and surrounding streets for Cherry Blossom Festival. Picked this over Starbucks due to the larger interior and exterior spaces. It was chilly that afternoon, so we chose to sit inside. I believe we hit an off day when there were plenty of patrons but not enough staff. Our orders didn't come out correctly. The furniture, floors, and ladies room were all rather dirty / shabby. It just wasn't a good experience. We are fans of the location in Thousand Oaks with the large outdoor fire pit and ambience to go along with it. Seems like this location is heavily visited and hasn't seen serious maintenance, cleaning, staffing, or training in a while. read more

The greatest coffee shop in the town. This place feels like home and is the heartbeat of La Crescenta as far as I'm concerned. Store manager (Brianna) at this Montrose location was very rude and started yelling.. I would not recommend coffee bean & tea leaf in Montrose ( 3701 Ocean View ave. Montrose CA).. i ordered two drinks and one was 32 oz super size drink which was not easy to fit in the tray carrier.. normally i would carry both drinks back to my car.. Today, Tuesday 3rd around 330 pm, i came in ordered the same but asked for a brown bag with handles that has carrier that fit two drinks inside the bag as i had to go to the bank and used the ATM which required quite a bit of walking.. the Barista said no no no even i explained i had to go to the ATM and bank..She did not even make an exception for me that it was very  inconvenient with tray carrier...i was begging her that i really needed the bag but she did not budge..she's even challenge me and started yelling to have me leave the drink at the store and go to the bank and come back and pick up the drinks.. is she crazy?? why would i have to do that??  i asked her for the name she was proudly acting untouchable that her name was BIANCA or Brianna which i didnt really quite catched it....and said she was a store manager here.. wow!!! i did not know Coffee Bean and tea leaf gives that much power to the store manager to yell at the customer and not flexible with just giving out one bag.... i eneded up took the two drinks in the tray carrier and placed the drinks tray by the trash can next to the ATM.. and of course my drinks were knocked over while i was using my ATM left me with half empty drinks on both drinks because i had to pick it up from the ground.. i was way way too upset to go back to the store and let her know which she probably would have laughed anyway.. They never do the drinks right and on top of that, they fight you if you ask for it to be remade. Literally, they gave me a capuccino with literally no milk or coffee, which is something I get at every other coffee bean perfectly fine and full and the girl just fought with me saying the milk doesn't froth when I work at a coffee shop so I know how to make a capuccino fine, I don't understand what's the staff's issue. They have consistency in making their drinks and I love their outdoor seating. Every time I go, this place is swarming with two types of people. 1) Students who stay for a very long amount of time and grab all the good booths/tables. Admittedly, I am sometimes guilty of this. 2) Older ladies/men who sit and chat. It's nice to see these kinds of people because I'm glad they still have a social life. Ever since they revamped this place, there's plenty of seats inside and out. There's also ample parking in the lot so no complaints on that front. They also have free wi-fi. Drink-wise... I'm not too fond of any drink here yet. I usually get some sort of iced tea, but I just end up taking one or two sips. Not too big of a tea fan, but others seem to really like it. This Coffee Bean is popular, and for good reasons too. Situated on the corner of Honolulu and Ocean View, it is directly across from its chief rival Starbucks (CBTL came first). The outdoor patio is great, even when it is a bit warmer out, because usually there is a cool breeze whipping around the corner. I've always had good experiences with the baristas here, and the place is generally well kept and clean. Montrose is a super walkable area, so I frequent it regularly. The outdoor patio area even has heaters to keep you toasty during our frigid California "winters." :P And the seating outside also includes some more comfier spots, so try and get them if you can! The inside is flush with seats, and if you are lucky you can nab one of the comfier leather seats. Beware of the college studying crowd though, as they are there almost constantly. Parking is a cinch, with street parking, a private lot, and an extra massive lot nearby. read more

If for no other reason than this drink, I prefer my drip coffee and Iced Coffee from Starbucks. I've tried their pastries especially their madelines. It's a perfect accompanying treat with coffee of course. This time I tried their regular hot green tea, & burnt my lip. You've been warned! Sip with caution. I did not want it to be too sweet and so I asked for half sugar and they made it that way. It tasted so much better than the green tea frappuccino from Starbucks.
