Terrible customer service! Employee Victor has the worst attitude in customer service I have ever encountered. Immediately off the bat he did not greet me, he looked at me with irritation, and when I asked for a small cup of ice for the apple juice he stated that they charge 25 cents for the cup? Starbucks definitely doesn't do that. Nothing on the menu that says that nor any signs that say that they charge extra for a cup for a drink that I bought! This is by far the best study lounge in the neighborhood. Once in a while it feels like a coffee bean, but generally it's a cozy little nook where the young and old meet, to study or share ideas on how to change the world. This particular Bean Temple has a knack for bringing out the best in everyone. I don't know if it's because of the friendly staff at the counter or the overall clean and refreshing vibes of the joint... unlike the Starbucks across the street that has a history of being haunted, this coffee shop works. For a local Montrose/La Crescenta citizen, CBTL is part of the Honolulu Ave experience. If you attended CVHS, you probably studied there, hung out with friends from there, or had friends who worked there. Though Starbucks opened across the street over the years, CBTL always beats because of the availability of seats, portions, outlets, and just tradition. I love seeing young and old folks with their dogs chilling outside at night. Inside is usually normal level, some casual conversations but quiet enough to focus on studying. My normal is the Hazelnut Latte or the Malibu Dream. The Strawberry Cream Green Tea bags are great for mornings at home. When busy, just hover around until someone leaves so you can nab a table. Wifi is fast, and bathroom is always clean. Staff is friendly. Parking is free. What more would you want in life. read more

This is my second favorite Coffee Bean location; its conveniently located next to a street full of cute little shops and mom and pop restaurants. My favorite thing about this location is its huge inside! Theres plenty of seating (but as the day gets closer to the evening, it gets more packed), they even have desk type seating for those who like to bring their laptops and use the free wifi (great creative thinking atmosphere!). Theres also outdoor seating. The entire staff here is not only friendly but they actually talk to you! [You ever gone into a cafe, restaurant, store, whatever and the people there kind of resemble robots? "Hello, welcome to blah blah.." I buy TONS of gift cards from Starbucks. And they don't even notice. I was specifically asked by a client for Coffee Bean so I drove over there this evening to pick up a $250 gift card AND THEY CARED ALOT. They offered me TEN free drinks (one for every $25 I spent.) I had to order them all at that moment and unfortunately couldn't use ten drinks at the time but I picked up an ice-blended for myself and one for my husband and "bought" the remaining 2 folks in line behind me each a drink as well in hopes that they would pay it forward and send good karma and love out into the world. Also the service was amazing and those ice-blended's were delicious. The new honeydew and cream one tastes like midori and cream. Mmmmmmm. For clarification, I would probably give the Bean 2.5 stars, but will round down cause I always leave telling myself it could be so much better if only if. I love Coffee Bean products, so there ain't gonna be no discussion on the greatness that is the ice blended. As far as corporate coffee goes, the Bean beats out the other rain loving chain. I love CBTL. The vibe is great, the music is nice and the employees have a strong work ethic. In fact, the employees are the best thing about this location. Not only do they make a delicious product, they greet everyone with a "good morning, sir" or "good morning, miss" and that makes me feel great. Something so simple leaves such a strong and positive impression. In Montrose, few places are open early so it's great that you can count on the coffee houses to be pepped and perky (even at 5:30 in the morning). There's a Starbucks and CBTL right across the street from each other, but I prefer CBTL because it's more spacious, there's a heated patio with mushroom lamps and the outdoor lounge has views of DTLA. The only thing I'd request is that CBTL has happy hour more often. read more

I've always been a fan of CBTL but there just aren't as many of them out there as Starbucks. I'm so glad to find that there is a huge one really close to my new office since there wasn't one close to where I used to work. The store is nice and clean. It's easy to find parking either on the street of the adjacent lot. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seatings available. I love their drinks, especially their mochas. I'm not sure what kind of chocolate they use but their drinks come out amazing. Their coffee is milder than Starbucks so you don't get that burnt espresso taste. I came in to purchase a bunch of gift cards for my employees and the woman that helped me was so friendly. She was very helpful and the service was prompt. I even got a free drink for spending more than $25 on gift cards that day. read more

Seriously it is sooooooooo hard to find a CBTL location that accepts gift cards! My mom gave me a gift card to CBTL since there are multiple locations by my internship. However, most CBTL are within other stores such as Ralphs and do not accept these gift cards. I finally stumbled upon a CBTL location that was by itself and was able to use my gift card. This particular location was amazing. We got there around 10pm and it was swarming with students. They had nice big comfy seats inside and outside. Along with some heat lamps to keep you warm. They also had some big tables for group meetings and such. We ordered a Regular Red Velvet Hot Chocolate, as suggested by fellow yelper Chloe. M, and it was fabulous. We also ordered a Black & White Muffin which was also very good. Our total came out to about $5.75 which isn't bad at all when comparing to Starbucks. Parking is tough at this location though. It looks like they only have street parking . . . which is a challenge in this part of the neighborhood because there are a lot of other outstanding businesses within a few feet. The staff TRIED to be friendly but came off as dull and tired LOL I can't complain it was late and at least I could tell they were trying. I prefer Coffee Bean over Starbucks. This location is just right and its a good size. My only complaint is the customer service is not always so great, and their mochas are not consistently strong, let alone consistent in flavor. Nothing I can't stand more than milky mocha in the morning or when you could really use the extra edge of mocha & espresso. The service can be a bit slow and when I need my caffeine whether it be in the morning or evening, it needs to be done right and quick. Nevertheless, it's still one of my go to spots for Americano, mochas, ice blended pure vanilla, or just plain drip! read more

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf doesn't have that many locations in the Bay Area, so, sadly, this is the first location that I have ever been to outside of Asia. ;-) I got a sugar-free hazelnut latte. It was ok, but uber sweet. The ambiance of this location was a lot nicer than the evil cousin Starbucks, and more like a hometown coffee shop than the mass-produced hell. We also were there on a Sunday afternoon, and there's a farmer's market that happens in the downtown area. I'd imagine it would be a really nice place to grab a cup of coffee and then wander the market for stuff for the week. read more

I love this Coffee Bean! It has lots of comfy seating and is nice and roomy. I've never had a bad cup of coffee or tea and the service is always excellent. it's a great place to meet up with friends or just hang out by yourself reading a nice book. I don't know why I ever bother going to Starbucks. I would write a nasty review of the one on Foothill in the shopping center with the Tmobile, but i can't find it on here. I asked for a Light Mocha Frappucino with Soy and was rudely told that they don't do Frappucino's with Soy. I asked if they had low-fat soy. The cashier looked at me with an attitude and said, "Um, hello it's a Frappucino?!?" To which I responded by looking shocked and walking out the door. Never going back there again. I went to this establishment just for coffee. While ordering my coffee I was asked if I wanted to also pay for a pound of coffee for a military family. Glad to do so! Sign me up! Seeing as I frequent this spot at least 2-3 times per week, I felt it only fair to review the beloved Coffee Bean. This Montrose location is quaint, never snobby, the employees are friendly and take any whacky order with ease, and parking is a breeze. My drink of choice is the regular size, iced blended mocha with soy milk, half powder. I don't know what is in that F**ING dutch cocoa powder that makes it so good, but I literally jones for it like an addict to his drug of choice. Maybe it's the soy-cocoa combo, the refreshing coolness, the slight coffee buzz, or maybe the 12 teaspoons or whatever ridiculous amounts of sugar, but I LOVE IT! Mmmmmmmmmm. I was into the iced blended vanillas and cafe vanillas for a long time (also soy, half powder which cuts down on the sugar content and you don't have to put chemicals in there), but the day I tried the mocha I was hooked. This location has plush leather armchairs and lots of windows as well as a nice amount of outdoor tables so you can watch the Montrose passers-by. read more

My current go-to study place! I've always been one to study at Starbucks, however, this specific CBTL is HUGE! It is easily five times bigger than the Starbucks across the street. There are plenty of study-friendly single tables that have outlets underneath the seat. When this place tends to get packed in the afternoons (a bunch of high school students meet here regularly). As a result, one's personal bubble is endangered due to the single tables being so closely arranged to each other. However, there are plenty of other tables as well as outside seating! Friendly staff, clean facility, free wifi, and superb drinks abound at this lovely location. :) read more

I would honestly give them a one star. The manger doesn't know how to run the place right. They sell drinks to you then DONT have the stuff to make the drinks. There is one person working the register and the drink station. Customers waiting and then finally the manager comes out from god knows where and jumps in to help. Over all, its a good little rest stop when I'm in the area, enough I would give it a 3.5-4 stars They opened a starbucks across the street, that I've yet to check out. It's usually pretty clean. It's a high traffic CBTL, so it can unkempt at times. Why I would give it 3 stars: The staff is usually ok, but not the friendliest or well trained compared to the other CBTL but it also seems to have a high turn over rated in staff. Better than your average CBTL! This one is much bigger than any one I have ever been into. I love the bar they have to the left and the seating is so comfortable!! Tons of patio space and plenty of areas for those who like to study while getting some coffee. Aside from the seating and space, there is also great staff here. Many of the employees are quite extroverted and I love when employees somewhere build relationships with their customers. I visit every Sunday for at least a year straight. Quality of food, regular coffee, staff judgment are seriously lacking and on the steady decline. Today (9.30.18) the regular coffee burned taste and utterly repulsive. I poured half out added water and cream, still gross! No masking the burned flavor.
