This place has gone so political and down hill. I hadn't been here in years, but remembered it as a good greasy spoon diner for locals in Boulder City area. While Boulder City is conservative, the Coffee Cup was not in your face about their political affiliation. Now, it's covered with FJB and NRA stickers. What a great find! I live in Bullhead City, Arizona and my good friend Erik lives in Las Vegas. We decided to find a spot somewhere in between us and meet for breakfast. Yelp quickly helped me choose where to tell Erik to meet me - "The Coffee Cup" in Boulder City. When I saw they had close to 1000 Reviews (BTW - this review is number 1000) and such a high score, then read what people said about their overall experience, it was a fast and easy decision. Not to mention the many pictures of what looked to be delicious food. Because I read how busy they can be on weekends, we planned on arriving early to beat the rush. I actually left my house in Bullhead City at 5:45am and made the 82 mile drive, arriving at 7 o'clock. When we walked in, there were quite a few people seated but plenty of tables to choose from. When we were leaving around 8:20 all tables were full and there were a few people waiting just outside the front door. The hostess greeted us with a friendly smile, upon being seated a young lady quickly took our order for drinks. The coffee was really good. I had already made up my mind based on the reviews that I would order the Pork Chili Verde Omelette. My buddy however was unsure what to order so he tried a few things... French Toast, Pancakes, Waffles and a side of Scrambled Eggs. The Pork Chili Verde Omelette was "The Best" omelette I've had in a very long time and possibly ever. The eggs were cooked just right, the pork was tender, and the spicy flavor was perfect with a slight hint of hot. My order came with Hash Browns that were crunchy and good. As well as Sourdough Toast. As for Erik, I tried his French Toast and it was amazing. The Pancakes were really-really good and the Waffles were just okay. Danielle was our waitress and she was fantastic. The place had a good vibe. There are surfboards and water skis hanging, lots of pictures of folks having good times on what look to be nearby Lake Mead and the bathroom was exceptionally clean. As a matter of fact, as I was approaching the men's room a man was doing a spot check on the ladies room cleanliness. When I asked if he was the owner (I just had a feeling) he responded yes. At 830AM there was already a pretty decent wait so I knew this place had to be good. I ordered the California omelette with sourdough toast. When we walked in we were greeted very sweetly by the girl up front and then picked out table when another young lady came and welcomed us and got our drinks. In Boulder City to golf and someone suggested we eat at The Coffee Cup. Place was crowded and we had to wait over 20 minutes to get in but they had an outside with chairs and benches for you to sit but it just happened that day it was really windy, but we toughed it out and waited. There was 12 of us so we split up to get 2 tables. Glad we did wait because the food and service was very excellent. I had the Chili Dog Burrito. It was different from a regular burrito and a bit spicy, but it was delicious. The onion rings were excellent; crispy just the way I like it. The other dishes that I was able to take a photo of looked good and everyone said they enjoyed their meal at The Coffee Cup. Don't be swayed by the Diners Drive Ins and Dives stuff, that's so 2010 or later. The place lives up to its OWN reputation. It's very busy, often a long wait, but who wants to eat at an empty restaurant? They have booze and day drinking is always fun right? Food is great, busy loud fun vibe. I like sitting up at the breakfast bar. I just don't know why we don't patronize it more. So that's why the 4 stars and we live in BC. Maybe I'll pop in again soon and see if I'm missing something. Please, please please.... Clean your grill often, especially when cooking scrambles eggs. The Last order had black grill residue all throughout the eggs. If possible, please use a pan... A clean pan, and don't burn the bottom. I know it gets busy there, I also know you can do better. The service has always been great, with the exception of a couple of the younger servers, but everyone has bad days I suppose. This review is more for the cooks in the kitchen than the servers, even though the servers should recognize these things as well before serving. Covid atmosphere: Inside the tables are fairly spaced out and most of the employees are wearing their face masks correctly! (Yay!) I would suggest not sitting at the bar if you are hesitant about mask wearers as the bar gets a lot of people moving around you and every now and then you catch customers and some employees forgetting about that rule when moving about the space. Food: Still definitely in love with the pork chili verde AND the huevos rancheros! Perfectly salted and I still think the portions are quite large! (We ended up needing to box some of it up!) My husband and I come every other Sunday for breakfast and I get the same thing (carne asada burrito) each time! Their processes are very 1950s, that is .. QUITE manual which has its charm but relying on teenagers to provide a quality experience is risky. Sunday funday foodie adventures brought us to The Coffee Cup cafe after visiting the Bighorn Sheep at Hemenway Park. It was just 5 minutes away in Historic Downtown, Boulder City. What a gem! After checking in with the hostess, it was a 35-minute wait. How convenient, their dining room includes a full bar! We stood in line to order their famous Bloody Mary Mix, which apparently is their mother's recipe since 1989! The secret mix is poured from a large pitcher then garnished with bacon, celery, a green olive, & a squeeze of lime. I believe the owner and his mother were the bartenders. Nice people! We stood outside beneath the misters to enjoy our adult beverages. Boy were they delicious and refreshing. A couple of them were made extra spicy. So good that Bloody Mary #2 was ordered to enjoy with the meal! Amongst the four of us, we had the French Toast, Chicken Fried Steak, the Boardwalk Sandwich, and a side of Bacon. We cleaned our plates!! The soft, French toast bread topped off with powdered sugar, cinnamon, and butter, was nothing but heavenly after drizzling a bit of syrup onto the plate. The Boardwalk Sandwich (with avocado and bacon) looked like it was made with the same Texas sized toast. Fresh ingredients from inside and out had us "oh'ing" with each bite as our mouths were shut full. I'd order both again! This cafe has got it goin on! Wonderful service. Good food. Great value. My spouse and I were recently in Boulder City for a leisurely stay to explore the surrounding area. A staff member at a local inn recommended we try The Coffee Cup for breakfast, so we did just that. We were advised to arrive early as the diner typically gets crowded shortly after opening at 6am. Since we were still operating on an East Coast schedule, rising early, was no problem for us! We arrived shortly after the doors opened and found the place to be quite charming. The staff was fantastic and the menu was diverse. I ordered, The Calli omelette with a side of French toast, and both selections were spectacular. I happen to love French toast, and I believe The Coffee Cup's French toast is the best I have ever eaten. My spouse enjoyed the breakfast tacos, and she was pleased with her menu selection as well. Best of all, the menu items were affordable. I recommend sitting at the diner counter because the staff is friendly and talkative. Fellow patrons were nice and welcoming as well.
