Went here yesterday with my grandmother... when we entered o realized it was more of a hipster/college kid kind of place and maybe not grandma-friendly. For example my grandmother is in her 70s and a bit on the heavy side so backless barstools at a bar like counter we're not the best seats for her. They did have a few 1-2people small tables with half back chairs BUT all the college kids were sitting in those with their laptops so they were unavailable. We initially ordered a green iced matcha, the white jasmine tea iced, the El Gordo sandwich and the steak and egg toast. Before we left we ordered an additional avocado toast just because my grandma wanted to see what the craze for that dish was all about. So the two drinks in themselves took just shy of 10 minutes to make. Cra-zy. I only saw one person at the drink-coffee-tea station so I'm sure that's why. Don't know why the business would choose to only have one employee make drinks in what is predominantly a drink cafe... The food was just meh. My sandwich, nothing more then a two cheese with bacon and Avocado spread grilled cheese sandwich was bland. The avocado was very thin and barley there. The bacon was plain with no flavor - salt pepper etc. The cheese used was different but again left much to desire. The bread was probably the best part since it was buttery and toasted and packed the most flavor. My grandmas egg and steak was more like one medium easy (order over easy) egg on top of cranes asada flank steak and with a line of green sauce on it. It was also on top of two pieces of toast. Hers definitely had more flavor but since it looked like their kitchen consisted of a tiny flat top grill and a huge toaster oven I'm not sure what was prepared on the spot vs reheated/regrilled. The avocado toast had a guacamole consistency not a smash chunky type. It was topped with pretty colorful radishes. More of a picture worthy food but not yummy type. In conclusion- it was nice to try something different but what with the wait time for the drinks and the blandness of the food, this will not be a place we will return to. read more

Uberly mixed feelings about this place. We tried it today and I got the steak and eggs asked for the egg to be over easy and when it came out it basically like a boiled egg. The steak was so well done it was dry and rubbery. I tried to ask for A1 or some steak sauce so I could mask the dryness but of course they don't carry any. The only good thing on my plate was the bread. I was filled with nothing but disappointment. No one ever checked up on us either. They were busy and the food took forever to come out. It was busy when we came so we expected a bit of a wait, but 30 mins for toast is absurd. Also, $12-14 for toast is disgustingly overpriced. We ordered the Lox & Avocado toast. Sadly, the food looked better than it tasted, lacking flavor and was soggy. I couldn't eat the toast. The Lox didn't even have any cream cheese. So alone on just the tacos which they apparently had a special for taco tuesday for 2.75 not sure how much they are on a different day but 2.75 is what you generally pay nowadays for tacos unless you find a really good and cheap taco place. I showed up at 1 o'clock ordered and left past 2 o'clock still without eating.I have never been more full of regret coming here. I have been coming to combine kitchen since the place opened and I have never had a problem until recently. As a business owner I understand the importance of customer service, but The new management ( Lupita ) is extremely rude and confrontational. I told her that I wanted a chicken breakfast burrito and she told me that I had to pay for everything separately, mind you they sell breakfast burritos all I asked for was for it to be substituted with chicken as I don't eat bacon or sausage as I am allergic to it and that I was willing to pay the difference for chicken breast. She sold me the burrito one item at time and also the chicken breast and didn't even put it inside.( see photo below) she didn't even try to apologize and actually stop talking to me . The combined breakfast was subpar and unsatisfying and the vegan rice bowl was a mound of rice with the most burnt vegan chorizo ever. I ordered a side of "scrambled egg whites" twice because they barely gave any (ended up spending $15 total just on 3 egg whites btw but that's on me for starving). Our food took quite some time so I feel like perhaps that was made first and was sitting there. The French toast wasn't inherently sweet which was a bonus in my book because once you add bananas and the strawberry compote and maple syrup there is plenty of sweetness! It was so good.
