yummy soul food on rainier! the restaurant itself is tiny and has about two tables, but seems like they mostly do to go orders. my friend and i shared a catfish plate with collard greens and mac and cheese, and ordered a side of hush puppies and chicken wings. the cat fish was super fresh and crispy, and the chicken wings were moist. i also really enjoyed the mac and cheese. for me, i think the hush puppies were a little dry, and for about $1 a piece i would skip on that next time. overall great experience and would definitely come back again.

We ordered the Catfish meal with two sides: collard greens and cheese grits, Oxtails with red beans & rice and the 6 piece chicken wings. Our meal was delicious and came out fresh and piping hot! Our favorites were the catfish and chicken wings, which were lightly breaded and fried well. Also, you get the full wing! They provide packets of Frank's Red Hot for you to enjoy. They have two - two-seat tables in their small dining area that you can reserve. While you're eating in, the food still comes out in take out containers. This worked out for us since we usually have leftovers. Service was friendly and welcoming!

I went here for the first time for Plate of Nations. The fish and chicken were fried perfectly. Light and crispy. Nice variety of sides and everything that that homemade feel. Yummy.

I've visited a couple times now, and The Comfort Zone makes my heart SMILE! Chef and the staff take my order over the phone, I arrive and it's freshly made. The flavors are so incredible and balanced. It's hearty and nourishing. The team members there are so friendly and kind, and they make sure I have everything I need in my order. I highly recommend this place. What I Ordered this time: Pork Chops Meal Collard Greens Mashed Potatoes & Gravy with cornbread and added Chicken Wings Red Beans & Rice

Some logistics first. All the "Inside" photos in Yelp are of a different location. The actual restaurant location has a very small interior with only two two-persons tables and two stools for folks waiting for take-outs. (See my photo) Nothing is wrong with a small restaurant, of course. We drove from a further location, and we much prefer to dine-in instead of driving all the way home and having to re-heat the food. Everyone else got the memo and did take-outs. We were the only ones at the little table eating the food served in the same takeout containers. The restaurant was also having ventilation problems, so the entire restaurant smelled like smoke from the frier. All our clothing smelled like smoke and grease. They apologized, so I appreciate that. The restroom is accessible only when they let you in through the kitchen. Good thing we were the only ones dining in. As far as I can, only three people are working the front and back. They run a tight ship! The Food: Fried Catfish, $21 - 4 Stars Fried catfish is the bomb! Theirs might be the best variant I can remember. The fish is properly trimmed. The cornmeal coating is thin and even. It did not taste greasy at all, which I rarely say for any fried foods. We had two orders of the fried catfish as our protein. Main meals come with choice of two sides. We tried: - Collard Greens ($9 if purchased as a side) - 5 Stars I chose it per her recommendation. She said theirs is the best. Oh, she just might be right! I have had many collard greens that are somewhat bland. Theirs appears to be boiled in a beefy broth, possibly with oxtail, based on the shreds of beef and bits of fat found with the greens. It is so good that I drank the broth! - Mac and Cheese ($9 if purchased as a side) - 3.5 Stars This tasted very good at the beginning. But it cooled quickly, and the crispy bits of cheese became chewy hard bits of cheese. Not so sexy by the end of the meal. - Yams ($9 if purchased as a side) - 2.5 Stars A bit too mushy and quite sweet. Passable but not our fav. - Waffles ($9 if purchased as a side) - 3 Stars When I read waffles, my mind is filled with Belgium waffles. I know I am at a soul food restaurant, and my mind ran the wrong way anyway. Fail, on my part, not them. The good thing is I was full from catfish and collard greens. This became hubby's breakfast. Cornbread, $4 - 5 Stars The main course doesn't come from cornbread, and it would be a crime to not order cornbread. Theirs is wonderfully fluffy and homey, not too dense, not too airy. Just right. All three staff members have some pizzazz. If not for the smoke, I would have really enjoyed b.s.'g with them and hanging out longer.

Food is amazing, love their Mac n cheese! Very chill place. Service is good, nice customer service, definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some good eats! 3 wings and 2 sides of mac for $21 and strawberry lemonade is $6 large size of mac (not pictured) $9.

Wonderful service and the food was amazing!!!! Don't walk, run. We will definitely be back.

Fried chicken, rice, Mac n cheese.

Yummy- especially if you been craving a home cooked meal. Ms. Miller brought me fried chicken, rice w/ gravy and Mac n cheese. Took a bite of the chicken and it's the best I've ever had. My belly will be full in no time. Thank you for the food, we will be back for more.

I enjoyed my time here. The food was good at times, but overall passable. The best part was how beautiful the food looked. I even liked that it came in to go containers with larger portions than would have fit in styrofoam. Unfortunately A few things holding me back from loving this place. First, weird dinning set up. It really felt like they haven't gotten over covid regulations. Second, the food was inconsistent. Most places you either get, sloppy overly seasoned extra greasy soul. Or un seasoned very healthy soul. This place was both. Third, my fish was greasier on the inside than my Mac and cheese. Too be honest the Mac looked like it was going to disappoint due to how dry and colorless it looked, but I actually really enjoyed the flavor. The greens were on point. But my fish, it disappointed. So beautiful, but overly crispy breaded and it ended up kind of mushy while trying to break apart and eat. Idk, maybe a lighter grease would help for the fish frying. Maybe plumper filets. Idk. But I doubt I would get more fish. My wings however were tasty. Mixed feelings indeed. Now for my water review, they gave us complimentary bottled water. Nuff said. I'd come back. Not right away, but I'll be back.

Found a great Soulfood place in Seattle! Must try.

I tell my non-Asian friends that they should leave an Asian restaurant if you don't see any Asians inside. I am happy to say we were the odd ducks in this place! Love me some legit soul food. The menu is straightforward. We ordered at the counter. The food is brought to our table. The food took quite a while with big crowds coming in after us. I suspect they cook in batches as multiple groups received food at the same time. It was mostly self-service (utensils, water) until the restaurant quieted down, then we saw servers cleaning tables, etc. The Food: Combo Dinner with two sides, $26 - 5 Stars The combo plat offers two meat choices. I chose the wings and catfish. The wings are sizable and plump. Highly recommend. The catfish was a thinner cut and a bit dryer. I liked the very thin breading on the catfish, not greasy, and it tasted good with Tabasco. For sides, both the collard greens and fried okra are excellent. In fact, I say the okra is perfection! The little corn bread is just right for me. I thought the corn bread has good flavor while hubby said it was too dry. Catfish Dinner with two sides, $24 - 3.5 Stars Hubby complained the catfish was too thin. He's not a Tabasco person, so that doesn't help. I gave him two wings to calm him down. Lol. He loved the hush puppies the best. They are huge with a wonderful crisp. I agree with him! He thought the yams are too sweet; they do look sweet in the liquids but isn't that want yams are intended to be? I think he just needs to order differently in the future. Note they have a 3.5% service charge for credit card purchases. See line on the menu photo.

The restaurant is very clean, was greeted by two servers working, friendly atmosphere, noise level was average and it's a smaller establishment, please keep that in mind. We ordered the french fries which are shoestring fries, side of catfish, a side of red beans and rice, and a side plate of fried green tomatoes, which comes with four bite-size pieces. Being from the south born and raised, I'm a particular about my catfish and even though the breading had flavor, the catfish to me did not taste very clean plus there was a hair stuck to the breading of the catfish. It wasn't a small hair. The mystery hair either fell in the oil or it was in the batter is my guess. Because when I went to break the catfish apart, that is when it sprung the rest of it out, there was a small curl tip sticking out of the top of the fish. Unfortunately, the green tomatoes had absolutely no flavor. I will say the red beans and rice had the most flavor. I could taste the seasoning and the spice with a little bit of heat. I also really appreciate that there was some veggies mixed in with some meat as well. The shoestring fries it's either a hit for some or a miss and for me it was a miss, but I've had lots of different kinds of shoestring fries from multiple locations, and different states. It's a hard one to make. They were fried crispy and excellent. I would say it's more of the seasoning that was a dislike. The decor throughout the restaurant was beautiful to view. There are photos of the owners their family and friends. Not only could I see the love and commitment put into this restaurant, but also I could feel it as soon as I walked in. My takeaway is for the cooks to wear hairnets and if they have beards, to also put nets on their beards to further prevent hairs falling into people's food. Fried green tomatoes are not an item that can be found at most restaurants. It's easy to make but definitely the seasoning on it could be improved. Also, possibly just going simple with the seasoning like salt and a little pepper on the shoestring fries, sometimes keeping it simple is the best. A topic I want to touch on, not because I got it, but because going through the reviews prior to coming not too many people were discussing the waffles and this was a direct witness of what I could see. I did not taste it so I can't describe how the waffles tasted, but they look like they were cooked golden brown, which was nice but they are I would say more on the thinner side than what I usually see at places that serve chicken and waffles. If you are reading this review and you are looking for a place that serves you a nice thick waffle please do not come here because you will be disappointed, and I do not want people being disappointed when they are looking for something in particular and they end up ordering something that they did not want. Besides my recommendations, as I mentioned, this is a place that is full of love and commitment and I appreciate the community that has supported this establishment. It is not easy keeping a restaurant open and it's even harder these days being a person of color to even have your own establishment. As always, my friends be safe out there. Thank you for reading this review and I'll see you at my next bite *=*

Maybe in the winter because the food sits heavy and the cost is a tad pricey BUT...I truly think everyone should try it at least once.

Tantalizing scent, still warm from the bag. Should have brought butter & jam for instant gratification (11/8/24)
