We love the Beer Garden at The Comus Inn after the restaurant closed to the public. We really enjoy being able to sit in the garden, listen to live music from local artists and enjoy sunset behind Sugarloaf Mountain. Kids are running around while others are watching the clouds. We have been very happy with the sandwich options for meals. We ordered the Philly Cheesesteak, the Cider Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Hamburger with Tomato Jam - all great sandwiches. You order food and beverages inside and then the staff comes out with the food to serve you. It is great. read more

A wonderful location near the base of Sugarloaf Mountain to grab a drink, eat some food, possibly listen to some live music, but definitely enjoy the outdoors. This was a perfect stop after we hiked Sugarloaf Mountain. The service was quite good as well. Definitely worth a stop. read more

We were told the main dining room was closed. We found out because they weren't letting any one in at noon and we followed folks to the back of the building to the biergarden part of the place. There the staff pointed to the stack of menus on a table and told us we could order at the register and they'd bring us our food and drinks. It was all outdoors and it was hot, so we didn't stay. A staple in the area, I had my concerns after the management changed, but the Commus inn continues to deliver, great dinner and brunch menus as well as a nice bier garden to enjoy in the summer! Service is always spot on and friendly, with great atmosphere, presentation. The only critique is the food served at the bier garden. Posting this to warn other bands about dealing with Kelly Lloyd. She hired a band to play for $500. The band performed for three hours, including having an opening act that they paid out-of-pocket, and had 20 to 30 fans at the venue, and after the fact, she refused to to pay anything. She pretended to be nice and friendly on the phone when she hired the band verbally, but then was totally casual about deciding not to pay and gave no apology. Just a reminder that people may pretend to be nice, but they are not, and you have to get your contracts in writing. We travel a good hour to get here and wouldn't miss it for the world! There's nowhere better to be on a summers night, beer in hand, butt in chair by the fire. I've been to Comus Inn a few times but most recently we sat upstairs in the dining room. I've now been to events outside comus, an inside brunch with a larger group and today with one other person. I ordered the BLTA today and it was good. The fries were super crispy and tasted great. I also ordered the french roast. The coffee was delicious, but it comes with milk and not half and half or cream. I personally don't like just milk in my coffee. This is just something to be aware of. Our waitress was nice and helpful, but the food took a while this am even though the restaurant was not full by any means. read more

Yo, this place was shockingly good. Lately I feel like restaurants have gone down hill. This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere so didn't need to be very good. But 5/5 on all fronts. I think there are two places, a front of house restaurant and a full service bar / snack bar in the back. We ate in the back. Plenty of seating. Great views and a nice little koi pond. Not too pretentious so great for our kids! Plus looked like a music stage, even though no one was performing on Saturday morning/afternoon. Large clean bathrooms. Couple of games to stay busy. This place would be a good date spot too. But listen, I had to write this review because the burger was so good. I think in the running for best in the DMV. Something about the fresh homemade pickles. The fries, onion rings and BLTA where delicious. But that burger is going to haunt my dreams. Hope it's as good next time I go back! read more

First time visiting although I have driven past it many times. We went for brunch and arrived 15 min before opening. It is a part of the Civil War Trail so we went over to read a bit of history. We went in when the waiter put the Open flag up. The Inn is historical and very well kept. I love old buildings and the use of space is perfect. We ordered the crab pretzel and it was our first time having it. It contained lump crab meat and the pretzel was PERFECT!! Delicious and certainly a starter I would get again . For brunch we had shrimp n grits, and the pancakes with Irish knockers. Both were DELICIOUS!! The portion size was perfect! All fresh food. Because I can I ordered the Irish coffee and I loved it!! You can choose between down dining on the ground level, or family friendly bar and grassy area downstairs. Dining room usually requires reservations. Perfect place to go after a hike on Sugarloaf Mountain! Grassy area for the dogs, koi fish pond for the kids to look at (and adults for that matter), live music starting at 1pm, kind service all around. The downstairs bar food is pricy, but you're supporting a local business with a lot of staff and overhead. Land ain't cheap. Onion rings and brat were solid. Bacon burger was too rare, so they offered to make another one or take it off the bill. Chicken tenders and fries are same as everywhere. Had a blossom fruity drink, refreshing. Lots of options for seating outside, I liked that there were 2 shaded areas. But also lawn chairs were you can sit and enjoy the view. Free parking, spacious parking lot. Only suggestion is that they make a prominent mocktails menu and include a drink option that isn't too too sweet. read more

Come for a good time, not a yummy time - at least at the spot downstairs. Super cute and incredibly Instaworthy, unfortunately not the same experience that I had upstairs years ago with the last owners. Tacos fell apart at the first bite. Seriously, EVERY SINGLE ONE. They're super small too and if they're that thin, you guys should seriously consider using a second taco shell to catch the fixins. The duck popcorn tastes like regular popcorn (which wasn't that much for the price) and my family complained that the chips seemed stale. Small amount of guac for the extra $2. Basically, for the three tacos, a drink, and the popcorn + tip $60. Plus, they're not even table servicing you. The real value you get is for the dog friendly space & beautiful views. Perhaps the upstairs area is still really good food wise but the downstairs area did not live up to my 5* review & memory from years ago. read more

We went to dinner here recently. The view of Sugarloaf is stunning. The service is excellent and properly understated. And the Sugerloaf wines are very good. HOWEVER: the steak bavette I ordered was pretty underwhelming. It seemed to have barely touched the grill. I asked for medium-rare. So, for $33 dollars, I essentially got an order of fries, as the mushy, small portion of steak wasn't much of anything. I like this place, and will go back. Come for the view but maybe not the food and service. We got there at about 6:30 on a Saturday night and it took us more than 30 mins to get even a beer. We ordered drinks and some apps at the basement bar. There were very few options in the fridge for canned drinks and they were out of a ton of items available on the food menu. The delivered the pretzel we ordered (overcooked) and that's when we realized they didn't have the onion rings we ordered (but turns out wasn't on the receipt either). Annoying. We tried to get a table upstairs (there were many empty) and the hostess told us that they dont take walk ins. We went online and made a reservation (ridiculous). We sat down at for dinner and it took more than 30 mins to get our drinks and appetizers. One of the cocktails was poorly made and we had made again. The food took 40+ mins to arrive and was mostly all overcooked. The burgers come with an overly sweet bun. we were seated at 7:15 and left at 9pm. Long meal, not great service, and overcooked food. They have an incredible property but it's a shame the food and service don't live up to that. read more

I came across this spot around Spring 2021. I love listening to live music by local bands and it is what brought me to this spot initially. I remember my first visit as if it was yesterday. The rain had just heavily fallen one Sunday afternoon. I invited a friend to join me, and we parked, arrived, and grabbed a seat - they have bench like seats in front of the stage as well as a few chairs outdoors. There is also seating indoors as well (both upper and lower levels). On my first visit in 2021, I had ordered their Pepperoni Pizza (it was a full-sized pizza) and my friend got their Watermelon Greek salad. I had also ordered an Orange Crush as well. As we sat and enjoyed the food and drink, the music was on point - the band was Rule G, and they were really good. Sometime during the visit, we discovered they also had a bakeshop and ice cream and so we went upstairs and ordered a dessert or two. Since that very first day, my friend and I have visited this spot a few more times. We have never come on days where they have special events. You can bring your own chairs, but not your own food. Parking is free. I have enjoyed most of the food and drink items including the desserts. They have games you can play (I did the ping-pong once) and a bunch of different things going on - just check their calendar online for activities include live bands performing. What I love the most is their sunset views. Overall, great chill spot. read more

This review is only for the beer garden. A friend and I came here after a weekend hike at Sugarloaf and it was busy with all outdoor tables full. We came right before brunch was ending so I was able to put in my order for a fall farro salad ($13). We waited 35-40 minutes for our food (my friend ordered an avocado toast). For the price, the portion was very small. However, I really enjoyed the salad. There are around 10 beers on draft at $10 a pour, and other options of cocktails (pitchers are available for some drinks). It is a bit pricey. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here. There's indoor and outdoor seating, with games such as shuffle board, connect 4, and ping pong. It's also dog friendly with water bowls. There's a good sized private parking lot. read more

11/15/24 update New management, new vibe. Started out with a Sugarloaf red blend. Ive had this before and love it. I next had Focaccia bread fresh made with honey butter. The Chef let me taste a very good chicken Tortellini soup. Very tasty but had peppers. I promised to come back for butternut nut squash soup- I am craving having this soup. In the interim I met beer brewer from Vanish Brewery, Lubbock, Va. supplies the brewskies downstairs. Had a tasty mango drink- my now go to- thanks Christian! Got a Tiramisu from scratch to go- soooo good. Ill be back!!!!! read more

We went for our anniversary and it was great. I had a unique and yummy Bavarian pretzel stuffed with crabmeat and cheese - and then had a delicious entree of scallops with pasta in a pesto sauce. We were going to go another time and they didn't have the pretzel on the menus but they said that if I called ahead they would make it - so nice of them. We didn't end up going because they lost power or something and didn't open that day. Would look forward to going back. read more

The good: Nice country views, patio, live music. The bad: Everything else. Insulting prices for the quality, presentation, and portion of food. We took the hour-long drive after seeing the pictures and reviewing the menu. Wow, what a disappointment, Probably the worst experience ever. Insulting. No, really. This review may read like a joke, but it's not. Let's break it down: They had "ceviche" on the menu. I love ceviche. At $16.00, I don't think I'd be wrong to expect an actual plate of ceviche. What I got was a tiny, 4oz plastic container usually reserved for a side of ketchup. Upon inspection, I saw part of a shrimp, a piece of fish, and a bit of avocado. Of course, served with stale, soggy chips. When we asked about the soggy chips, the staff answered "oh, maybe they're soggy because we put too much salt." So, we took it back and "exchanged" it for something that perhaps matched the place better, a pound of chicken wings. For that same $16.00 we got 8 wings and they were OK, but a bit chewy. We also ordered the $21.00 baby back ribs. They called the cook, "king of the smoker." They were OK, I guess, if you like dry, overcooked ribs. But that's the good part. Of course, a tiny side of fries is an additional $6.00. It was half slab and the included sides (cole slaw, pickles) were served in tiny 1oz plastic containers. See picture! We also tried the "watermelon Greek salad." Now, lots of places have their version, but this is like the frat-house version with some cubed watermelon, sliced tomatoes, feta, olives, pine nuts and dressing that wasn't Greek served in a box. No greens. OK, maybe expecting a gourmet experience at these prices is being snooty. You would think that a $16.00 burger would be their saving grace, well, they didn't disappoint. It looked like it came out of your high-school cafeteria. Of course, the tiny side of fries is an additional $6.00. So, if you come for the music, stick to the drinks and eat at Wendy's or Chick-Fil-A prior. At least their salads have greens and their platters come with fries. Oh, and did I mention you order the same way? Yeah, no service. read more

The Comus Inn is beautiful and is definitely worth a trip for the views and scenery. Great place for a get together, or for a small celebration. I'd recommend getting drinks and food downstairs on the patio, rather than dining in - each time we've dined in, the food has been a little disappointing. The menu is not very extensive and the quality doesn't match the prices, with the exception of the dessert - the Smith Island cake was really good. However, the staff is very kind and the restaurant has a very cozy feel with great views both inside and outside. They also have live music a few days a week. I'll be back - but probably on the patio, or inside for some dessert. read more

It was THE MOST special weekend, and the Comus venues were perfect. So thankful to live so close to this place. If you want to enjoy nice weather, this is the best place to enjoy a cold beer outside and listen to some great live music. Constantly rotating selections on tap. My kids love it too (especially the ice cream and games). We always order the Detroit-style pizza, smash cheeseburger and the Nachos to split. Everything I've had on the beer garden menu has been but those are our favorites. I've also eaten inside many times without kids when I want a more upscale dining experience. Sammy D absolutely kills it. The bronzino is incredible and Italian specialty dishes are great for dinner. On Thursday in the dining room, it's half-off wine bottles and Sammy provides a complimentary charcuterie appetizer for the table. We came to Comus Inn for Sunday brunch and we had a great experience. The restaurant has a nice farmhouse style decor And the food was delicious and fresh. We definitely had an enjoyable experience and would come back to try other items on the menu. The only complaint was my grandfather ordered apple juice which was $4 and was not freshly made and only was poured in half the glass and there was no free refills. Other than that, there are three different sections for seating--The full service dining, the outdoor dining, and the basement with the full bar and beer garden. It's an interesting concept and it definitely was a nice place to visit since it was able to accommodate our large party of 11. I ordered the avocado toast and it was a beautiful presentation and very delicious and fresh. Definitely "Instagram worthy" for a nice photo op and worth every bite. Our party of 11 were pleasantly surprised and everyone enjoyed their food. At our table, one person ordered the salmon Benedict, another person order the bagel and lox, another the croissant with ham and cheese, chicken and waffles. My husband had the pumpkin waffles and this was excellent as well since it came with cinnamon butter. Just perfectly cooked and crispy. The restaurant was clean and the service was prompt and friendly so bonus points from my perspective. We loved our experience at Comus Inn and will be definitely adding this to our dining rotation in the future. read more

I have been bringing a large group to this restaurant for the past few years after we hike Sugarloaf. Lunch after the hike and more specifically the BLT became part of the yearly tradition. We had heard that Comus Inn had new owners, but were hopeful that we could continue our tradition. Today we were disappointed to see the menu changes implemented by the new owners. The limited menu for the outdoor area and the discontinuation of what was quite possibly the BEST BLT sandwich in Maryland has made us reconsider our plans for next year. We ordered the Bavarian pretzel and chicken tacos, but they were underwhelming. One of our friends had to wait excessively long for her food chicken tacos with the corn tortillas. Her tacos came with cheese and some sort of sauce. The tacos I received were lacking cheese and sauce. The music and beer were good. read more
