Overall The Copper Hen was really good. When we arrived the host informed us that they just sat 7 tables so the servers may take a while to get to us as they try to catch up. It definitely took long for our waitress to talk to us, but she was very nice and helpful. After ordering drinks and appetizers it took about 10-15 minutes for them to get delivered to us. We ordered the smashed potatoes, which were very delicious! For entrees my girlfriends and I decided to share 3 different meals: the cheddar ale burger, farmhouse blt, and the baked mac & cheese. I would 100% recommend the mac & cheese and plan on coming back to order this again, it's especially good with bacon. The burger was very good, but the patty was fairly small. The blt was okay, it had very thick cut bacon which was similar to ham, we missed the crunch of normal bacon! These also took a long time to be delivered. We decided we had to get cupcakes because they seem to be known for those. I got a vanilla buttercream cupcake in a mason jar. It was bad. The cupcake was very dry and the frosting was extremely sweet ( I wouldn't call it buttercream, it was not buttery whatsoever). I was under the assumption that I got to keep the mason jar the cupcake came in, but apparently you aren't supposed to take them. My girlfriends got the red velvet and chocolate cupcakes (not in the mason jars) and they seemed to really enjoy them, so maybe I got a bad batch. Never in my life have I ever been so impressed by every aspect of a restaurant. From the moment we walked in we were promptly greeted and sat at a table. The decor is very rustic and "homey" and fits the restaurant very well. Perfect lighting and the small plants give it a very organic feel. Our server, Jakki, greeted us right away with waters and was very friendly. It was easy to tell that she is a very genuine person, and we saw just a minute after being sat that she was out the door and sprinting down the street to return a purse that someone had left behind. We asked for her favorites on everything on the menu--drinks, appetizers, entrées and desserts. She never once steered us wrong. I had a cappuccino, spinach artichoke dip, the farmhouse BLT, and the giant cookie dessert(I don't remember the name) and tried 3 other sandwiches that my friends ordered. Every single thing that I tasted blew my mind. My tastebuds were on cloud nine. Jakki was very knowledgeable about the menu and went above and beyond any expectations that I could ever have for a server. At the end of our meal she helped us figure out how to use uber, since we walked a half hour to get there in the cold. She also brought us cupcakes that would otherwise be thrown away to take home with us. I was so incredibly impressed with my entire experience at The Copperhen. This place is cute--not too loud, pretty music, very relaxing ambiance--and delicious, with an interesting and varied menu! The tomato soup is among the best I've ever had. The bread is also delicious. They have a great beer selection and a variety of great options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. My friend got the mac & cheese and it was delicious with breadcrumb toppings. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He recommended the skillet cookie for desert, which was delicious and definitely a sharing desert more than large enough for four people. Will return! read more

My visits to Copper Hen have grown to be increasingly more disappointing each time. The first time I ordered the Croque Madame and my boyfriend ordered the special, poutine with smashed potatoes. The food was so amazing it made up for the fact that we ordered bottomless coffee and sat with empty mugs the whole meal and received only one refill when the check was given to us. This past weekend was the worst visit of all! I was so looking forward to my Croque Madame and when I got it I was so disappointed! The egg on top was so overcooked the white was burnt and the yolk was powdery. The toast was burnt black and there was hardly any of the fondue sauce on it. My boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy with a side of the "smashed potatoes". Well, the potatoes were cold and not at all smashed but halved, and so undercooked a fork could barely go through them. We did have better beverage service this time around, and our bottomless mimosas were refilled a few times. But the food has been so disappointing compared to what I had the initial visit, I don't see a reason to come back, which is a bummer because the ambience is so adorable! read more

I've been to Copper Hen several times, and every time, they claim to not take reservations for their brunch. Which is fine, and the policy for numberous places during brunch. Today, we tried to go to Copper Hen at 10:00am for brunch only to find out, THEY WON'T SEAT WALK INS TODAY, because they have an event at 2pm. Apparently, they are only taking online reservations, but if you go on Open Table, you cannot reserve a table during brunch, only during the dinner times. The food is fine, but there are ample amount of brunch spots in Minneapolis that will actually seat their customers and not just turn them away when they have several tables open. I will be going somewhere else until Copper Hen stops giving preference to their special events and actually acts as a restuarant. read more

This place was amazing! Me and my boyfriend went during brunch and the place was still pretty busy on a Friday. I had their Farmer Mac's Burger and omg it was delicious! The meat was tender and what I loved the most was the finely chopped up lettuce. Somehow it made the burger tasty. I usually don't finish my burgers but this one was way too good to not finish. went here last weekend for brunch for the first time and was not impressed. the restaurant itself was beautiful- aesthetically pleasing, copper details everywhere- but it was so loud. i do understand that we came on a saturday morning at a prime time, but it was ridiculously loud that i couldn't even hear my husband who was sitting right in front of me. the service was decent- we made a reservation beforehand, were seated as soon as we came in, and our server was attentive. we ordered the pork belly skillet and the copper benedict, and received our food less than 5 minutes after placing the order. while i'm glad that we didn't have to wait over half an hour for our food, i was a bit concerned about how quickly it came out- it was questionably fast. the food was mediocre at best. the breakfast potatoes were glowing red from all the seasoning on them, which didn't even add much flavor to them. my copper benedict was all right, the bread was tough, there was not much flavor, and it felt like the egg was slightly undercooked. my husband got the pork belly skillet, took 3 bites, and didn't want to eat anymore. we were disappointed; we honestly could have just saved some money and gas, and made a better breakfast at home. on the plus side, their orange juice was really good, but we won't be recommending this place to anyone we know. read more

This place has some of the best food in Minneapolis. The duck is cooked for 24 hours in a special cooking device and it is reDONKulous. We grabbed a late dinner here on a gorgeous summer evening. Sat outside, we were seated right away, and got drinks within 4 minutes of sitting down! I had the Farmers salad and Bauhause Bendiwire on tap, everything was great! The salad was a great portion size, with a perfectly poached egg on top. Overall you can tell they use quality, fresh ingredients. Our server was so sweet! Very playful and kind and attentive, she was a young woman but I have since forgotten her name. I've also had their champagne cupcake- I'm not a big cake person, but I thought it was great! The restaurant itself has a beautifully rustic feel, with a little bit of that "farm to table" trendiness (see the wallpaper). I will definitely be back!!! read more

Went for dinner and wasn't blown away. There was a definite farm to table, earthiness feel to the place and food. While it underwhelmed us with the dinner courses, we were impressed with the cupcakes for dessert. We order the Pumpkin Spice and Carrot Cake, both of which were very tasty The service is a bit slow but it was restaurant week which could explain the craziness. The atmosphere is pretty neat. There is exposed timber and an open kitchen. Another plus is free parking in the lot across the street. We waited to be seated but noticed there wasn't really a waiting area or bar to post up at so the couples waiting to be seated were standing behind other diners which was a little weird. Glad we can say we've been to check it off the list of places to check out but don't plan on hurrying back anytime soon. read more

I appreciated that my Americano was a short without my asking for that. In Minneapolis, Americanos seem to be made tall by default, and after encountering confused baristas I've generally given up getting them short. Unfortunately, the coffee didn't taste that great. I'm a fan of baked goods, but nothing in their display case caught my eye... a first for me, I think! The cupcakes looked really tiny for the price, and there were a lot of unconventional flavors, like sweet potato cupcakes. If that's what you're looking for, check this place out. It does have a nice interior and the location is great. Nice to have a cafe option besides Spyhouse in the Whittier neighborhood. read more

Let me start by saying we dined on Christmas eve. They were probably busier than normal. However, after being sat, it took over 10 minutes to be greeted by either our server or wait assistant. Our drinks took a long time as well (it must take a long time to pour a ginger ale) Once we ordered, it was another 20+ minutes for the food. I am a cook, and know that we went straight to entrees, so we deserved this. But what i got was mediocre at best. I ordered the seared scallops. They were cooked beautifully. But, like everything else, horrendously over seasoned. Everything tastec like a block of salt. The scallops were also not cleaned properly, very grainy. The biggest disappointment was the dessert. My party ordered a warm apple pie ala mode and a red velvet cupcake. We waited patiently for over a half hour. The server was kind enough to bring us 4 of their cupcakes while we waited. We continued our conversations for a few more minutes when our dessert finally arrived. I'm told the apple pie was at best so/so. The cupcakes were dry, as if left in the display case for more than a couple of days. The decour was very nice, music a bit louder than i would like. And tge tables are so close the servers can't walk between them. I am willing to try them again on a not so busy night. My first experience was not good though. read more

My 3 friends and I made a reservation for 10 am on Sunday. When we arrived our table was ready to go and waiting for us. I'm glad we had a reservation because it got busy in the following two hours. Yes we stayed 2 hours! We didn't feel rushed at all to leave the table, after our plates were taken and the bills were paid, we weren't visited by the waitress, asking if we wanted anything else (which to me usually is a sign of them telling you to leave) Right around the two hour mark, the host did come over and kindly told us that there was a 2 hour hold limit on the table, and we were right around that mark. She was nice about it and didn't make us feel bad about it. As for the food, I got the farmhouse BELT and the side order of bread pudding french toast with cinnamon whipped cream. I was going to split the french toast with someone, but i'm so glad I didn't! It is the perfect portion to indulge and finish yourself. I am a huge fan of cinnamon, and the cinnamon whipped cream did not disappoint - it was amazing, I could've eaten a whole bowl of it. The BELT was also really good. The tarragon tomato aioli was an unexpected welcome sweetness, the over easy egg was cooked perfectly, and the toast it all rested on was the perfect level of toasted. The roasted potatoes which came with my open face sandwich were perfect, crispy and flavorful, I enjoyed them with the dipping sauce that accompanied them (not sure what it was.) The service was great, our waitress friendly and we didn't wait long at all for our food, or for our checks at the end. I have always wanted to visit the Copper Hen and i'm really happy I finally got to. I can't wait to go back and try more. read more

I am just discovering this block of Eat Street. I was there as they opened and started with a cream of zucchini soup, and it was predictably delicious. The cupcake display welcomes you as you walk in. It's starting to cool off and I was torn between a salad and burger. I wasn't in the mood to be full and messy so the wedge it was. I love green goddess dressing, however the fresh tarragon is dominant. I was able to bury it with the croutons, bleu cheese, and fabulous pieces of bacon. It was just right. What made it wrong were the slices of steak. As good as it was all it did for a salad of this caliber was up the price to $17 bucks. They have a wonderful iced tea which was a satisfying strength. I'm so sick of rushed, weak assed teas. I couldn't leave without something from the display. I dare you not to. I got the boozy cupcakes, because you all know that's how I take my booze. Brand new in town, so I used my free coffee with a breakfast sandwich coupon they left on my car to try it out. They don't seem to have much for vegetarians on the menu, which is odd. In this neighborhood, the norm is that there are abundant vegetarian options, so when the cashier plainly offered to serve me a breakfast sandwich without the main ingredient and no replacement, I was a little crestfallen. If you're vegan, I would definitely go elsewhere. I also really wish they would set out creamer for coffee (there was only sugar). The wifi also doesn't work outside. Other than that, the food & coffee was okay, but not what I would expect. The breakfast sandwich I received was very greasy, and didn't have astonishing flavor or anything. Perhaps that's because it's just egg, cheese and a muffin. I think the reason this place seems cool is that the atmosphere is so nice. Very open and sunny, cool lighting, relaxing music, small town bakery feel behind the counter. But that doesn't make up for the rest. Hopefully they'll improve! read more

If you're going to be one of those places that doesn't put salt & pepper on the table because your chef is convinced they know more about your taste buds than you do, you should serve food that's seasoned. The pork belly skillet, I repeat, the pork belly skillet! was flavorless. Although that's not entirely true. It was served with uncooked, unseasoned, raw root vegetables that had flavor but it was a bad flavor. The turnips (? Maybe turnips NO ONE KNOWS!) were disguised as potatoes and they were not good, dear reader. I knew it was trouble when my wife passed the skillet to me because she never complains about a meal. I gave her my croque madame to eat. It was also flavorless but after 10 minutes our server came by (place was dead. There were 5 other guests there) and I asked for salt & pepper. At least that made the croque edible. Eventually she came back to drop the check ($50 with tip for 2 people and no drinks ordered) and never bothered to clear our plates. Also left the entire skillet sitting there and she never asked if it was disgusting or offered anything else or took it off the bill. Such a shame because the place looks great and smells amazing when you walk in. Sadly, it was the worst meal I've had in at least a year. You are welcome to give it a try but there are literally 50 other places with 5 miles where the food is great so maybe try those? read more

Went with friends - they liked the crab cake, mac and cheese, and pot pie (comfort food on a frigid day). Unfortunately CH ran out of filet and I got a really tough piece of sirloin. I really really wanted to like this place, as I am a firm believer that bottomless mimosas are one of the best ways to start up your Saturday (or any other day for that matter), so the fact that TCH is getting 2 stars speaks loudly as to how disappointed I am. The first star off was because of the food. I had the skillet scramble with bacon and feta ($12). As I chewed, I had to stop from time to time and move my tongue around to ensure I still had food in my mouth, as I could not taste anything. OK food was still there, either my taste buds were still asleep or this was the most blah skillet I've had in a while. Option B won. I had to add Tabasco and some mustard to get some flavor on it, and if you have to do this to a meal then you know it's not worth eating it again. Ever. The pancakes were also very average, reminded me of the ones I make, in which case there's no reason for me coming here and paying for them. The Farmer's Brunch was actually pretty decent, with a very tasty toast. The next two stars came off due to the terrible service we received. The place was busy so I could understand they were not Johnny on the spot; started off ok but went downhill fast after our waitress brought us the check without us asking for it. What is it with waiters constantly doing this? Does this mean you want me to leave and stop consuming, thus reducing the amount of tip I will leave you? When I'm ready for the check, I'll ask you for it. Bringing it at any time prior to me requesting it will result in a hefty decrease in my tipping. In this case, we were pretty much done with food and were planning to focus on the liquid diet at hand, of which we still had about 1.5 bottomless hours remaining. By this point we were having to prod her constantly to keep us refilled, as she started slacking big time. The last time I asked her, 25 minutes had passed and she still had not come back. Irritated by the extremely mediocre service, I left a $0.05 tip plus a very detailed explanation for my actions. Then me and my thirsty group left in search of a better watering hole that actually cares about their customers. Now I don't know if this was an isolated event, but I get the feeling this place lures you in with the promise of bottomless mimosas, but as soon as you are done eating they bring you the check to get you the hell out and circulate more people through. I can't believe this is the review that I am giving. I was positive it would be easily 5 stars. The food was 5 stars but our service was terrible!! We got seated at nearly 7:30 with a 7:00 reservation. We sat at the bar while waiting for our table. My drink was outrageously priced! I would expect to pay that much at a pool in Vegas. I could go on and on. Let's just say no one working that night was in any hurry to seat us, take our order, clear our plates, bring our desert, or take our money. 3 hours on a Tues night is ridiculous!
