I paid my waitress and upon leaving, was stopped by another worker asking if I paid and when I said I paid he ran over to my waitress and asked her in Chinese if I paid. Very tacky. I've not Yelp-reviewed in a good while but THIS was an interesting night (Fri Dec 15]. I think Corner Chinese is having an identity crisis but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Hear me out: you walk in, and you notice the joint does NOT have the vibe you find at a place whose name is some blend of the words "Garden / Palace / Dragon / Wok / Lotus / Great Wall / Spring / Panda" etc. (That may have been a touch racist, albeit statistically sound.) Hard to describe the difference. High ceilings, has that "trendy" look and feel to it. Glistening bar up front. Very different vibes, including the club music that's played, although not blasting. High-energy host and server caught my attention too, as did the floor manager who I think was also covering down as the bartender. Said FM was also standing at attention, keeping eyes on the whole dining room. You'd see the same behavior at some snazzy restaurant, right. It looked like their FOH had some pretty legit training with protocols and steps of service so that was refreshing. Eh no offense to the garden/palace/dragon/wok/lotus/great wall crowd, but you usually... don't see that there. West Lake Beef Soup: nice. Shrimp with Honey Walnut: these is some BIG prawns, wowza. Sizzling Tofu: was more of a pepper tofu (a la pepper steak), really. Not bad though. Cumin Fish Fillet: decent. Duck Chow Fun: tasty We came in here on the pay-$60-for-a-$100-credit Groupon. (Those five dishes brought us to about $107.] It was EASY to hit $100; as in, the price points are a little spicy. Overall it was a tasty meal but I don't know if it was $107 tasty. If TCCR tweaks their pricing and tightens up a few small steps-of-service things, they could stand out from their peers as a really vibrant, lively restaurant. It looks like they're already trying to. SO, if they can put it all together, there can be a really strong spring/summer in their future. Time will tell! read more

We stoped by later in the evening with limited expectations however we found a very charming and helpful service team which was efficient and fast We ordered to start both types of egg rolls which were freshly done and very tasty I got king pau chicken which was a bit less spicy then I would want (was corrected by adding chili oil) other than that was very well done with the correct amount of veggies and chicken. I can't believe this place isn't more popular than it is. Ordered the sweet and sour pineapple chicken for delivery, and I've never been sadder to not live in New York. The sauce isn't what I would normally think of when I think about sweet and sour chicken, but it was delicious nonetheless. My order arrived very quickly, and in a reusable bag, which I thought was a nice touch. I've been in Manhattan for about a week, and this was the best meal I've had here by far. The chicken itself was very high quality (which isn't necessarily always a given with a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant) and cooked perfectly. I think for the first time ever in my life, my friends and I got up and left this restaurant before the food even came because the service was so horrendous. The waiter was blatantly rude and dismissive, and had no clue what was on the menu. It was almost funny at first, but became not funny really quickly. We went to The Corner for a special occasion and had a great experience. As vegetarians, we were pleased with their willingness to adapt the dishes for us. Standout dishes were the Veggie Dumplings (clearly not from frozen), Eggplant with garlic sauce, Vegetarian Imperial, and Tofu version of the Sesame Chicken. These were delicious and a must-try for any vegetarian! The restaurant has nice decor and overall cleanliness of what you hope to see when going out to eat, and the wait staff was incredibly attentive and made sure everything was done to our liking. Entrees: The Angel hair noodle with beef and curry And the spicy short ribs. When I say these short ribs were good, we literally stopped talking for the next 7 minutes and devoured everything. The 2 stars is only for the vibe and interior of the actual restaurant. I ordered takeout for beef lo mien and it was completely tasteless. The noodles were overcooked and didn't taste seasoned at all. The beef also had a weird taste/texture. I hate wasting food but it unfortunately tasted so bad that I couldn't get through more than a couple bites and ended up having to throw it out and having buttered toast for dinner instead. Being a big Chinese food fan I was excited when I saw the coming soon sign for The Corner Chinese. Having checked the menu before I went I noticed a great lunch special price. On my way home from work I decided to splurge on a pricey Chicken and broccoli dinner. I saw the price was $18.00. Ok pricey but all Chinese food like everything else has gone up. I handed the host a twenty dollar bill. He quickly went to ring me up and returned a moment later to say I owed more money. Wait a minute, eighteen plus tax doesnt equal $21.78. He then told me that rice is included in the lunch special but NOT for dinner. If you want rice with your meal its a two dollar upcharge. Wow!! I handed him twenty three dollars. He returned without my change and was annoyed I even asked him this question. Im sorry but this is unreal to me. I was hungry and tired, I took my bag and left. Was it tasty? They brag on the menu that its great. It was loaded with oil and to me for the price and portion size it was just blah. The whole experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. We had the Calamari (1000/10) this was a hit with my family, Duck Egg Rolls (9/10) , Peppercorn chicken, (10/10), Crispy Chicken with Magic Chili, this dish was so good and the aromatics from the chili were great (10/10), and the Creamy Lobster Noodles (9/10).
