Since we moved to this area last year this place has been our go-to when we don't feel like cooking. I love how it has that old race track feel because I grew up going to restaurants around Pimlico and laurel. All its missing is the ciggarette smoke (joking). Me and my wife love the burgers and fried chicken. The crispy coating on the fried chicken is light and crispy. It might be the best around! Tried the ribs and they were good, but prefer my ribs dry. On 08/11/21 we found ourselves in the area and thought that having a late lunch at a place we had never been to would be just the thing. Everything about the lunch was fine (food, service, ambiance, etc.). The cost of the 3 lunches came to a total of $35.48 and after a tip of $6 was $41.48. The problem came when I rec'd my Discover bill and noticed that I was charged by Corner Stable $35.48 three times and $41.48 once. That means if I just paid my Discover bill without looking at it I would have been charged $147.92. Believe me, the lunches were not that good! I ask you, how in god's name does a mistake like that happen? Well, I called the CS and spoke to Aaron asking to speak to a manager. He asked what it was about and I explained the situation. He then asked my name (which I gave him) and the the name of the server. At that question I said that I would give that information to a manager at which time he said that he was the manager. I then gave him the rest of the information requested and told him that I would like to have two of the $35.48 charges returned to me along with the $41.48 charge since I did not think that the server in question deserved any tip. I said that the total I expected back of the $147.92 was $112.44 and that I would be okay just paying for the cost of the 3 lunches. He said that he would "tell the owner and the owner will call you tomorrow" (a Sunday). Well, guess what? I never receive a call back. On the following Thursday I called CS back and asked for Aaron. He remembered me and said that he would talk to his "General" Manager while I was on the phone. He came back and said that they already credited the refund to my Discover card. Interestingly enough, before I called I had checked my Discover account and did not see any credit (done or pending). I told him this and he said it can sometimes take a few days (how many times have I heard that before). I then asked him what amount was credited and he said "all of it"; at which point I asked "all four charges" and he said "yes". I thought well, if they are doing that then they can't be so bad. Guess what? After a few days I saw a pending refund of only $106.44 which is just the three charges of $35.48. No compensation whatsoever when I was only asking for my tip of $6 back along with the refund. So, with this and all the freekin' time I spent on it I would give the Corner Stable a BIG FAT ZERO RATING! Make sure that if you dine at the Corner Stable in Columbia that you check your credit card bills afterwards. Do this to avoid thievery. read more

If Ruby Tuesday's is your kind of place- you will like this spot. Overall it looks quite large from the outside, and you basically walk into a bar with the seating area off to the left. The only saving grace was our waitress as she made the evening fun. Of the 4 entrees, each had major problems and we had talked Corner Stable up to our friends. The Cockeysville location has always been great, but the Columbia location is a step above a cafeteria. NONE of the french fries were good and mostly cold. One person's ribs felt like they came directly from the refrigerator. The other 2 rib meals were warm at best. The steamed shrimp tasted like they had been boiled in plain water...absolutely ZERO flavor. Forget ordering wine...whatever the house, it is like koolaid...tasteless. Our wonderful waitress brought over an unopened bottle of Hilltop Cab from J Lohr and said for $20 @ glass she could open the bottle per the bartender. I am a real connoisseur of ribs and a friend of mine introduced me to this place because she seen they had great reviews online. They also mentioned they were voted best ribs in Baltimore so i had to try them. On first glance of the outside of the building it reminded me of an Irish pub. The inside looked not much different and was fairly empty to be a great rib joint but it was a Tuesday so i gave it the benefit of the doubt. We were seated fast by the host. For the place to be almost empty, it took a while for someone to greet us. After we were greeted by someone different than our original server to get our drink order, later it was decided that this would be our waitress. We were going to leave because it was taking so long but she arrived just on time. Since so much time had passed, we ordered our appetizer and meals at the same time but still wanting the app to arrive first. For this spot to be award winning, there was no smell of ribs or any food for that matter in the restaurant. For our appetizer we ordered the fried pickle spears. They ended up coming out a minute or two before our food. They were served with ranch dressing and was ok. Not the best i have had but not disappointing. We both ordered the famous baby back ribs and crab cake combo with mac and cheese and baked beans. When the food arrived, the ribs were very boney with not too much meat on them. After tasting them i could compare them to Friday's or Applebees which both have better ribs so it would almost be an insult to them both. The crab cake didn't taste too good so i gave it to my date for her lunch the following day. She also took my mac and cheese and baked beans as well. The mac and cheese were something you would expect out a box and the baked beans out a can. The temperatures of the food seems like they were under food lamps and not cooked to order. The only reason i gave them two stars is because the manager took off 20% for poor service. If these are the best ribs in Baltimore, it must be two sides... lol read more

I ordered mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, and shrimp, Crab cake, and steak. I ordered my steak medium and it came out very well done. The shrimp on a stick was well almost hard. My mashed potatoes were cold. The crab cake was the best part of the meal. It was a close place to get to from the hotel! My friend ordered ribs and she said that they were pretty good! The Corner Stable is hidden in the planned community depths of Columbia. I randomly stumbled upon them on yelp and thought I'd check them out despite their location not sounding even remotely familiar in my mental map of the area. It's easy to find once you know where you're going yet still not a place you just happen to drive by. Unless you live around the hidden corner. I had no idea it's strip mall (or street for that matter) even existed! Parking is easy and the service is speedy, at least in my experience during dinner on weeknights. So fast forward past all of the above. I've been here twice now for dinner and my food was great both times. More importantly, they have a fantastic and extensive beer menu with seasonal and local offerings. That alone was really impressive. I had the Jailbreak & Flying Dog mash up beer both times. I haven't been able to find it anywhere else! The food includes the usual bar food offerings along with BBQ and MD specialties. Pretty much a bit of everything. While I haven't been here for lunch, they do have a decent lunch menu as well, just in case you don't work or live in the area and find yourself trapped and starving amongst the circles and streets in the area! All kidding aside it looks like a good deal. My only issue was the first time I was here I initially ordered a seasonal fish special and was told they hadn't had it for a while that it was an old menu. Finally I found a place where I could get a real crab cake. So much crab, it was ridiculous. If I knew that it was this great I wouldn't have ordered the sides, just the crab cake. It was real lump crab meat, it didn't have a lot of mayonnaise like most people make theirs. My mash potatoes were great with the turkey gravy. The only bad thing that I didn't like was the mac and cheese. I took one bite and wanted to put it in my napkin. It was very dry and had no flavor at all. My waitress, she was very attentive. I also loved the host enthusiasm when we walked in. She was very positive, even though she was about to leave. I also liked the attention that was given to me. My waitress took my order and a few minutes later another waiter asked if me needed anything. My mom told me she loved the ribs and wanted me to get some cole slaw. my son asked me where I got his burger, because he loved the burger with onion rings on top. I also did a order out order and waited for a long period of time. My waitress explained what happened, it was ok, I just didn't like waiting that long period of time. I recently ate at The Corner Stable, in fact, as recently as last night, which is what prompted me to write this review. My experience? Awful. And it started the moment we walked in the door. The most unfriendly hostess "greeted" us as we walked in the door. She didn't ask us how many, or if we were dining in, she just kind of looked at us, I said 3 and she sat us down. The waiter was prompt to greet us at the table, "jokingly" saying that he had been drinking (i.e stumbling over words, and saying words wrong). We of course thought this was a joke, until later when the mistakes just started piling up. We ordered an appetizer that never arrived. We addressed the waiter about this, but we didnt even see him until the entrees came out. He went to "see what happened", came back and told us, "it seems like the kitchen never got a ticket for it" - - Oh, so you forgot to put it in? How about a little honesty. After sitting for about 20 minutes our entrees come out. And while I'm not a ribs person, the two guests I was with both ordered full racks. For a 20 dollar entree, you would think you'd get a plate right? No, expect a basket of ribs and fries all piled on top of each other, as if lazily thrown in there together. Very poor presentation. The one gentleman who accompanied me had an issue with his ribs, claiming he did not receive the right kinda of sauce (they have regular and spicy BBQ). After alerting the waiter, he of course had new ribs sent out. (On a tangent, I know my friend can be sort of difficult as far as food goes sometimes. He had to send the 2nd ribs back because he was convinced that the kitchen just re-sauced the old ones. The manager himself came out with new, unsauced ribs for my friend, but then proceeded to tell my friend that he was eating HIS dinner, that when the ribs were sent back, this "manager" had to give away his dinner to please my friend. What kind of customer service is that? I mean I deal with difficult customers ALL THE TIME, but I never try to make them feel guilty for being unsatisfied for something. And then as my friend is trying to thank him, the manager is clearly walking away from him, as if he wants nothing to do with him.) In any case, I ordered a dessert that was also forgotten about and I had to remind the waiter again. All in all, the food was mediocre, 3 stars at best, but I'm giving this place such a low mark for its awful service, and rude staff. I will never go back. read more

Man. So I've given this spot several chances. Possibly by choice or more so as it is right down the street from my office. Each time I come I sit at the bar. This is where I am most comfortable and gives me the ability to stare in the bartenders eyes to demand proper drink making etiquette. Now for 4 times I come in, greeted by host, and sit at the bar. 1 minute passes, nothing, 2 minutes pass, see some servers but no eye contact, 3 minutes pass, and still nothing, You get the point. On average, and yes I do time this, it takes over 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me. Which is messed up as I am very handsome. If this place had the best damn BBQ in town I would take being treated like a leper just to get some sweet sweet BBQ. But no. Below average food. This blows my mind as their restaurant off Joppa Rd is good for both service and food. So don't know the deal. You can eat some cigarette butts in the parking lot outside this place and have a more enjoyable experience. read more

Been here several times now, so I feel I can give a proper and well informed review. There are a lot of issues with this place. One being that anything fried on the menu is placed under a heat lamp in the back kitchen. How do I know this? Because my fried chicken had plenty of evidence scarring it (large areas of rock hard meat, for instance), not to mention the obvious lack of any sort of juices in the meat. It was terrible! If I wanted heat lamp food, I would go to a fast food place and not a restaurant that has everything at $10+ on its menu. The sides offered looked like something out of a TV dinner and had obviously been sitting out for a while because they were only lukewarm. Parking is also a sad state of affairs here. I have never gotten decent parking the three times I have been in this place and always end up walking a good amount before we can get inside. This time it was because some no talent jazz band was playing down the way a bit. The ONE saving grace for this place is the desserts. The home-made donuts are awesome and they're the only reason the Corner Stable didn't get a 1 star review from me. I would suggest to the owners that they watch their employees more closely, drop the damned heat lamp and/or get rid of the fried offerings if they're too lazy to cook them correctly and actually cook food from fresh. Additionally, crab isn't everything so they need to stop putting all their effort into one food item on the menu and neglecting everything else in the process. So let's take a walk back in time, shall we? Many many moons ago, I was introduced to the Corner Stable in Cockeysville, MD. A couple I knew had strongly recommended that I try this place for the ribs. I was all excited... I decide to try this spot out and it was as if I stepped back in time to the 70's and was in the mid-west. I. an African American male, walked into this spot all excited to try these infamous ribs and **screech - that's the sound of the record scratching and the jukebox pausing** every single eye in that place was on me. It was the most unwelcoming feeling I had in a long time. I knew I did nothing wrong so I walked in and was determined to try these ribs. However, if a fight broke out, I think I might have been 'SOL' ... (lol) I uneasily sauntered over to the table that was open and sat down with both trepidation / anticipation (what an odd feeling... I recall it well.) I rested my hands on the red/white plastic gingham table cloth and recalled it being very greasy. My anticipation was waning. The waitress comes and asked me with the rudest tone, 'what can I get for you'? I said, 'another server, please...' She looked at me with disgust as if I stole her last bottle of Moonshine or something and walked away. Another waitress came and apologized and was very polite and very informative. I explained I had never been there before and heard GREAT things about the ribs. She recommended them highly along with et fries and a 1/2 & 1/2 (which I had never heard of before - and now happens to be my FAVORITE drink, to date). The food was, needless to say, sooooooo worth the wait (... and the eyes of [them]: 'GET OUT OF HERE'!!! Me: Hell 2 tha naaaawww! I am tryin' these dayum ribs!!! LOL) The ribs were cooked perfectly. The meat fell right off the bone and the sauce (BBQ, not vinegar) was seasoned so well that they tasted like someone took them right off a mesquite grill and put them on my plate. The French fries were freshly cut and thick. Sprinkled w/ just the right amount of salt & pepper. And they were plentiful. I got like a huge basket-full. Oh and the cornbread ... ohhhhhhhhhhhh the cornbread. MAN! That was some good grubbin. Then of course the nectar of the Gods, otherwise e know as an Arnold Palmer (aka - a 1/2 & 1/2) ... GENIUS!!!!!!!! Needless to say, I had one of the best meals that night at the Corner Stable - whether it was 'wanted' or not. I certainly wasn't leaving and getting the BBQ sauce in my car (lol) so I'm glad I stayed and enjoyed ... Fast forward to this afternoon. A co-worker asked if wanted to go to lunch. My response was a luke-warm, 'ehhhh, I dunno. Where are you thinking of going"? "We're going to a place called the Corner Stable". Well, my eyes nearly popped outta my head!!! "when did they open one here (Columbia)"? "a few months ago, I believe". Needless to say, I was out by the elevator waiting for her before she realized I was ready to go ... We get there and WOW! Things have certainly changed. This new spot is like a trendy sports bar/restaurant. Quite nice, indeed! A very welcomed change from that country western spot I went to many years ago in Cockeysville. I sat, excited .... Our waitress was very knowledgeable and provided suggestions (I didn't need that ... I was on a mission...), and excellent service. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and then I saw they had fried chicken. I wanted to see how they did it and made it my selection (w/ fries of course) and when it arrived, my mouth dropped. There is no WAY that both of these HUGE chicken breasts are for me. YAHOO!!!!!!!! I try the crust. Seasoned well - simple seasoning but well done (a lil garlic salt & pepper). The chicken, itself ... OH MY WOW! Can you say JUICY!?!?!?!? It was the most tender, deep fried chicken I had the pleasure of destroying in a very long time. And of course they still had a RI-DONKULOUS amount of hand cut french fries to devour. A lil sprinkle of Malt Vinegar ad I was good to go ... There was so much food; I now have dinner for tonight! I am so glad I got to enjoy this place again for BOTH the food and the ambiance. I had the ribs, I love ribs, I order ribs and even make ribs all of the time. These were without a doubt the worst ribs that I have ever paid for. I would have rather had a McRib. They tasted like they were boiled or steamed, there was no char, no bark, no smokey flavor - and the sauce...it was some sort of glaze - not what you would expect from a barbeque joint. I would not recommend these to anyone. My wife had a brisket dip sandwich. The meat tasted ok, but the fat was not rendered and it was so sinewy that is was impossible to take a clean bite. I have no idea how they could possibly market this as a sandwich if it is impossible to bite through without bringing all of the insides of the sandwich out of the bun. The sides were very bland. Fries were nothing to write home about. Mac and cheese and beans tasted like they were just taken out of a can. The ultimate CON: The quality did not live up to the price tag. Our go to place for special occasions but they went above and beyond for our 33 anniversary dinner. Upon arriving, we are led to a special table with a white table cloth and a rose in a vase in the middle. Our waiter arrived, wishing us a happy anniversary and popping open a bottle of complimentary champagne before taking out order of their delicious rack of ribs combo with the huge crab cake. We visiting while on vacation earlier this month. The atmosphere is very casual. Service was not the worst, not the best. I ordered the crab cakes, which they say are award winning. I'm a crab cake snob, so I had to try them. They were some of the best I'd had in a long time. Big chunks of crab with minimal filler. Fresh and tasty. I only wish they were served with some kind of sauce on the side. But other than that I'd get them again. My husband had the ribs which were very good and son had a burger which he liked.
