Went for an early lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was probably half full. My partner and I were seated in an area with two very large parties. I understand that they are likely very demanding but it took about 20 minutes for the busboys to bring us our water. We waited another 10 minutes and after 30 minutes, attempted to wave down a server. We were ignored completely and unfortunately were so hungry at this point that we left. I would rate it 4 stars but given how expensive it is I just can't Had the lemon ricotta pancakes, wild mushroom goat cheese omelette, and coffee. That was about $50 before tip. I really liked the pancakes. Very tasty generous portion. They was the high point. It came with a small amount of regular syrup. At this price point I expect maple syrup. Still, if this was the only thing I had would've rated it 4 stars. The goat cheese omelette was a good concept but the execution needs to be better. Clumps of individual ingredients not distributed throughout the omelette which made with eggs that had been whipped. It cam with potatoes that pieces that were greasy and unbrowned and not at all crispy. Again, to high a price point for that. It also came with a sweet biscuit that was really good. Coffee was fairly tasteless. Service was excellent. It's kind of a shame. It has some interesting menu items that I'd like to try but it has to be better at this price point. Sorry. read more

What a great find for breakfast! The restaurant was recommended by a friend but I didn't expect it to have such a great atmosphere and menu selection. I was having a hard time deciding on a couple of "finalists". My server let me know I could order half of one and half of the other, with the price of each split in half. What a great option. I was able to get two different egg benedicts...or I could have gotten just one or two pieces of the stuffed french toast plus one eggs benedict. The food was delicious, good service and I loved having my own small container of coffee instead of having to flag someone down. I'll be back for lunch. I hear the tuna melt is to die for. read more

We found this place because I had seen a post on instagram and it looked nice. They had no wait on a sunday morning so we decided to head over there and give it a try. The service was on point, out server was super attentive and gave good recommendations. The food was soooo good! I want to come back for more next time we have friends or family visiting. I had the mexicali benedict and it was amazing and super filling. We also ordered a stuffed french toast with lemon curd for the table to share, that was the star of the show! I still dream of that french toast. It's definitely a must have. Needless to say, we'll be back! read more

Actually visited the spot on Wednesday (July 6th). Wonderful breakfast place!! We usually go to LaJolla so when they opened the spot up in Encinitas, we definitely wanted to try it. Service was great, waitstaff was very attentive to our needs, coffee really good. Ordered the fruit platter to start, then as the main course had the stuffed french toast, which my friend and I split as it was a hefty serving. We had breakfast there this morning and it was delicious and the staff is awesome. Very welcoming and friendly. The manager came over and introduced himself. Was excited to try this place. However... service was extremely poor. I had to ask multiple times for flatware and condiments. Second drink ordered was not served like the first. Almost like they said only fill it part way. Got charged for more drinks than we ordered. Food was lacking flavor and pancakes were over priced. We do not plan on returning. read more

Have been here a couple times with friends to the Encinitas location and overall had a great experience! Great food! Love the wild mushroom ravioli! The inside is very pretty with the pale yellow wall mural and roomy seating. Totally unexpected when looking from the outside. I'm a big fan of The Cottage in La Jolla so I had to try this location. I would give it 6 or more stars! The service is excellent, the patio has lots of shady spots, the food is incredible! I had the shrimp and crab salad. It was packed with seafood, avocado, lots of fresh veggies and was easily sharable. One of my friends tried the octopus, a new menu addition. It was a huge serving and my friend, who is a light eater, loved it so much that there was none to take home. The grilled chicken with goat cheese was amazing as was the stuffed avocado salad. Would agree with an earlier post that, given the price point of the meals and the reputation of The Cottage in La Jolla, it should have been excellent food, a lovely clean environment, and a better experience overall. Firstly, why are the windows and entry glass door filthy? Secondly, why is the cutlery so cheap? Why does a traditional 2 egg breakfast cost so much? Very, very underwhelmed. I heard The Cottage was opening a second location and stopped here yesterday - and I must say it is outstanding! I have always had great food and service at their La Jolla location so thought I would try this. We sat outside which was wonderful, their is a huge overhang so you can relax in the shade. I was excited to go to the Cottage for breakfast as I always enjoyed lunch or breakfast at the Cottage in La Jolla. Sadly, it was disappointing. The service was polite but extremely slow, it took about 40-45 minutes to get breakfast from the time we ordered. That would have been okay as we weren't in a hurry to eat or to get anywhere that morning, however, when my breakfast arrived the eggs and potatoes were cold, and the bacon was not crispy but instead was also cold and had a chewy texture. The cappuccino was good but also served lukewarm. Also, the bathrooms were dirty with trash overflowing in the bins. I find, for the most part, the cuisine in the restaurants of north coastal San Diego lacks finesse, and typically the service is mediocre to poor; although there are a few exceptions. Most of the restaurants are also overpriced. I don't know why we don't have restaurants of higher quality in north county san Diego, maybe people or the owners here don't know the difference, or worse, they just don't care. read more
