We went to the Kimmies for Breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was busy, but they had a lot of seating and the wait wasn't long. However, the setup for the waiting room was a little weird - it's just a big square white room in the middle of the restaurant without much decoration. It seemed like a nicer smelling doctor's office. The service was great, and we got our drinks and orders taken quickly. The main reason for the 3 star review is that the food got a resounding "meh." My girlfriend and I both ordered their basic eggs benedict, and others at the table ordered the breakfast quasadilla and the "big hog" or something like that - whatever the big meat/biscuits/gravy breakfast is. The hollandaise sauce was advertised as "tangy," but it mostly came out as runny and too bitter. There wasn't a lot of other flavor to be had with the ham or eggs either. I had to put a lot of hot sauce on the whole thing to get it to have some flavor. The home fries that came with the meal were what you would expect - simple fried potatoes, good with ketchup. The breakfast quesadilla was mostly egg and there were very few other flavors going on. There were a lot of peppers inside but they didn't add much to the taste. It seemed like a lot of the food lacked any seasoning or salt at all. I'm not a big fan of super salty diner food, but adding little while cooking for taste doesn't hurt. My friend who ordered the big pork/biscuits & gravy breakfast enjoyed his meal a lot more. It was your basic breakfast meats and a homemade biscuit. Hard to go wrong with that, but I certainly can't count it against them! Great breakfast place for south reno..came in on a Sunday there was a bit of a wait but it went really fast. My husband got the pork chops with hash browns and wheat toast. I got the country sausage breakfast- homemade sausage patty with home fries and a side of biscuit and gravy. We waited a long time for our food and people who arrived after us got their food first. When our food arrived, it was cold. The pancakes my wife ordered were not cooked, they were literlly gooey batter in the middle. Someone checked on our drinks twice in the hour we were there. Last visit found a hair in eggs, told waitress who had someone else deliver replacement dish -- I guess she was too embarrassed to apologize! Under new ownership or at least a new name so we thought we'd give them another shot. Wasn't busy for Sunday morning which should have been a clue. We got seated right away, plenty of servers but after 10 minutes without so much as a glass of water we walked out. While waiting I observed that the menu had up charges for everything like $2 for maple syrup with your pancakes or salsa for a burrito What? I wonder how much for a fork?! I eat breakfast here at least twice a month. The service is wonderful. The food is always fresh and served hot. The waitstaff is pleasant and they are willing to comply with unusual requests--I have never gotten to wild with them but they have never hesitated to do what I ask. I have never had to wait for a seat. I know it happens but I go early enough that I never have a problem. They are up against a very large base of breakfast cafes and they always seem to do better than the rest. read more

I love the refreshing rennovation! The food is great! A huge coffee cup and a waitress that understands that sometimes it is best not to top it off too soon after I've gotten just the right mix of cream/sugar...a relief! They serve delicious red-skinned potatoes..with or without onions/green peppers. Syrup is served warm....perfect! Outstanding lunch for my wife and I. We were greeted and seated. Coffee was brought and orders placed. I had the French Dip, Flavor great. Service wonderful. I have held off writing this review for a long time because I couldn't decide how I felt about Kimmie's, but after my fourth visit there, I think it's time I made up my mind. The reason I am left so unsure is because our experiences here yo-yo back and forth between extremely satisfied and totally annoyed. The first time was right after they opened, and I adored my breakfast of Basque chorizo and eggs, but the coffee was bad and the service was, while friendly, pretty sloppy. The second time the coffee was better and the service a little more polished, which convinced us to come back for a third try, when I got sour coffee and my eggs were brought out so cold that I had to send them back. Only a Groupon enticed us back for a fourth try this last weekend. Things started out well...my coffee was nice, the food hot and tasty, but then the waitress came by and poured me a warmer, which made my coffee horribly sour. You may think that I'm obsessed with this sour coffee thing, and I am. I loathe sour coffee. I'm not a big coffee snob, but for me, nothing kills a breakfast experience like a bad cup of coffee. And Kimmie's is named after a coffee cup, so they should know better. Kimmie's is a really comfortable place, though I'm not a super fan of the Grandma-Kitch design style, and I don't see the need for all the servers to wear skin-tight tops. Still, if your breakfast and coffee come out right, I can see how many would have a great experience here. As for me, the only consistent thing about Kimmie's is their inconsistency. I first heard about this restaurant on TV around the time that they opened. Every time I thought about stopping to eat here it was closing time. Decided to go here for breakfast one morning while I was in Reno. It's such a cute little place and shares my name!~ how could I not give it a try?! Although I'm a huge eggs benedict fan, I don't often order it based on the rich hollandaise sauce and the fact that most places don't make a good sauce. I ordered the eggs benedict which came with hash browns and Master9 ordered the silver dollar pancakes. Master9 thoroughly enjoyed his meal (as did I enjoy my food) and he LOVED the tidbits of my eggs benedict that I let him sample! The waitresses were all so friendly and very attentive even though they were busy. I received a glowing recommendation for this place from a local gal so thought we would try it out for Mother's Day. We knew it was going to be busy. It definitely was - a good sign!! It's a fairly small place however they were able to accommodate our large party of nine. We were greeted with a happy smile by Rhett. Despite having some obstacles with his staffing that mornung, they did an amazing job. The food was delivered promptly and it was delicious. I LOVE KIMMIE'S COFFEE CUP! A friends family has opened this little gold mine! It definetly stands out on S. Virginia! The place is bright and has a great atmosphere. A little down home meets 50's diner..Next time i will do as Donna says and saddle up to the bar! Let me start by saying the food (we had 3 dishes) was amazing! Fresh and light! I had the mexican scramble and loved the little explosions of fresh jalepenos under the perfectly melted cheese! The avocados were the perfect ripe! My friend Lizzy had the breakfast croissant...YUM! The bacon was cooked perfectly! and we both topped it off with a side order of banana pecan pancakes! The bananas must have taken a dip in sum rum!! Brilliantly crystallized! At one point i said out loud...right here right now i am over doing it! On to the great staff! Donna came over to see if all was okay, what a pleasant gesture! I really wanted to like the place when I saw all the flowers and antiques. For some reason, once we'd put down our menus to signal we were ready to order, the waitress totally ignored us, waiting on everyone around us but not coming to our table. Finally a waitress approached us from another part of the restaurant because she had noticed we were waiting, and she took our order. The menu had said you could have your choice of cheese on a sandwich, so I asked if they had provolone. She just said "No." She didn't volunteer what they did have, so I had to ask (American, cheddar, Swiss, pepper jack). The weird thing was we waited less time for them to prepare the food than for them to take our order. Maybe I'm wrong, but I got the impression that they hire family members who don't have to do their jobs very well. That's nice for them but not for me. The food was both good and bad. The potato salad tasted almost like my mother-in-law's (surprisingly good), and the sourdough bread on my sandwich was very good. The turkey was the processed kind. The lettuce and tomato were fresh. My husband said his eggs were slightly undercooked and the bacon tasted as if it had been cooked several times. There were several very loud groups in the room that made the atmosphere very unpleasant. And even after they left it was still really noisy. Some of the breakfast items looked pretty good, but I doubt we'll go back because of the uneven service and the noise. read more

We tried Kimmies this morning (if you look at my reviews you can see we are searching for new (and good ) breakfast places to go. I think I got the Country scrambler (I can't remember the name for sure). It was suppose to have potatoes under the egg scramble. I think I might have had about 7 potatoes. The scramble was ok but hard for me to judge. I think iIt was a texture issue for me so I don't want to say it was bad. It had so much sausage (which normally isn't a bad thing) that it was overwhelming for me. My 12 yr old son got the Waffle. He didn't eat it all which says a lot. I tried it and did not like it at all. My 9 yr old got the Country Benedict. He as impressed. I tried a bite of the biscuit and I really liked it. The hubby had eggs, sausage, and home fries. He said it was good. The sausage was so big that the 12 yr old and I both thought he got a hamburger patty. We will go back. Next time I will get an omelet or something and the 12 yr old said he wouldn't get the waffle again but would like to go back. We thought the service was good. We never had to ask for a drink refill. The one thing we didn't like was that it seemed really loud. I have a little bit of a hearing issue in loud places so it made it hard for me to hear at times. read more

We went to the Cup Cafe during our trip to Reno and really liked it. The decor was cute and fresh. The whole place was spotlessly clean. They have their own parking lot. The food was fine and the menu included home fries. The best thing about the Cup Cafe is the staff. Our party included African Americans. All of the other customers were white and gave us sideways looks and plain old staring. The staff just treated us with the same warmth and charm as everyone else, maybe with an added emphasis for the benefit of those other customers. There was confusion when checking in, some people were waiting at the hostess spot, while others walked to the counter to be seated. The hostess and waitresses were very snotty. I ordered their advertised pumpkin pancakes, they did not taste like pumpkin at all. I ordered off of the children's menu for my six year old, the waitress didn't pay attention and placed the order as an adult meal. It was too much food for my son....we were charged the full price, although we didn't order the adult food for him. I like Kimmies food, and service can be Ok or hit-and-miss. I have two real problems with the place. First, it can be incredibly loud, which I absolutely HATE in a restaurant. Why go somewhere if you can't hear your partner when you're eating? Second, they play a Christian radio station, and I find that very offensive. I don't care what you choose to believe, but I don't believe that you have to foist it on your patrons, because they come in all denominations, and they shouldn't have to listen to your beliefs when they're eating their eggs and bacon. Keep your beliefs to yourself and in private, don't force them on your patrons, who may not have the same beliefs as you do. read more

It says noise level is average. If you sit at the counter or at tables in the front it's so loud I had to leave.

We've only been here once and it was A-OK. Nothing special. Just traditional breakfast. Portions are large but the flavors are nothing to write home about. That and our service was a bit slow although friendly. Sorry this review is so simple. Just like Kimmie's.
