Went after Great Lakes Surf Festival which is one awesome event! We had to wait about 30 min but it went faster than expected. Got the Thai Brussel sprouts and they are fricking amazing! My wife is a vegetarian but these were just insane! I ordered the fish plate with 3 sides. It was enough for 2 people! Fantastic service. Went there to eat on the deck and see Lake Michigan. Waited 2 and a half hours for a table. Seated in the high traffic lane basically next to "the kitchen door" at a table with a back side view of a dune grass covered sand hill. Food was OK. Bring cash. They charge extra for a credit card. Busy bar with outdoor seating is my best description. Not the worst place I've been. Dissapointing. You're paying for a nice Lakeview dining experience and may or may not get a table with a view. We got a table similar to what we could get anywhere else we went with outdoor seating. Glad we tried it. For the price I think there are better options. read more

I reviewed The Deck a few years ago after my first visit. I can say now after probably 8 visits since, that it continues to be my favorite Lake Michigan/Muskegon area spot. We always take visiting guests there and have always had great service and consistently excellent "beach food". You need to open something similar in Grand Haven!! (Maybe buy Snug Harbor, you would kill it!) They have more than doubled in size recently and now have a great outdoor seating area with concert stage and a take out window. Hard to say what is best to eat, its all good. Even if you don't like Brussels sprouts you gotta try these, a huge plate 4 can split for an app. Our server on our last trip (Amelia) had nothing but great things to say about working there and the management which says a lot! We came to The Deck based on so many good reviews but had a very bad experience. If it's your first time, it can be confusing to know what you're supposed to do. There is a walk up window where you can order and this seemed like the only way to order food -- but apparently you can also request to sit down and order on the deck to the right. Don't make the mistake of ordering at the window and then trying to sit down on the deck. We did that and were asked to leave by a hostess because there were people on a waiting list. However, there were several empty tables, which all remained empty for the entire time we were there. They take your name + number and text you when your food is ready. This was good. However, when we got our food the order was missing several items. I also noted that two other individuals were also at the window saying they were missing food from their order. One person that appeared to be a local said to me, "they get it wrong every time". We ate the food in our car overlooking Lake Michigan because we couldn't find a table anywhere. That was fine but not anything close to what we were expecting. Also, the food was pretty good but quite expensive ($60 for 4 people -- no drinks -- from a walk up window with no seating). read more

Beachfront establishment. I think the view from the deck are nice. But, I'm a spoiled person who has always lived in coastal cities. So, well, see the note about being spoiled with my views. It seemed like a mix of everyone. Families, college kids, young couples. Sort of like an advanced picnic at the beach with tacos. Which brings me to the tacos. My fish taco was really solid. I liked the addition of the queso that, for whatever reason, tasted like mashed potatoes to me. Maybe it was some kind of butter flavoring? I appreciated the abundance of fish and also the absence of those incredibly overfried inedible crispy ends that so often plague the tacos where I live. We recently held our wedding reception at The Deck. A group of about 40 of family and friends. Being on the beach definitely gives them a upper hand for a great vibe. Our food was good and our waitresses were very attentive and worked very hard. However, I need to address the owner Michelle Harris. I had to deal with her on a few occasions prior to make our plans. My wife tried many times to get in touch with her by phone, but no call back. Her 5 word email responses made me feel as if I was a bother. Met with her in person solely and with my wife to be and both time felt brushed off and vacant during our conversation. Her "I don't give a shit attitude" made us want to change places. We tried but Unfortunately it was to close to date and it was not possible. The day of our wedding my family, friends came to help us decorate our area as we got married on the beach at Pere Marquette. She was extremely rude to all of us and when we asked if we could have a garbage can for our room ... She literally through it at us in the room and walked away. I was extremely embarrassed if front of everyone that I wanted to address her attitude. But I was advise from my family not to because my reception was there that night. Afraid she might do something to ruin our special day. I've been in the business as a owner, I have never, ever come across someone so abrasive and ignorant to people who pay her way through life. We saw this place along the side of the road and decided to give it a try, because we liked the concept of sitting near the beach. I'm not sure if it was the day or the crew or what exactly happened, but this was not a pleasant dining experience. BBQ places typical have pretty quick service, but the food took over 40 minutes to arrive. A couple of other tables were seated after us and packing up to leave before we saw our order. The food was fine, but nothing incredibly impressive. The manager had offered us a couple of free desserts for the excessive wait, but at that point we were ready to eat lunch and leave. We probably will not return. However, they did make an attempt to resolve the issue. On a positive note, it was wheelchair accessible if you decide to give it a try and accessibility is a concern for your group. I would say this is probably a decent beach bar with limited food, but would not recommend it for a meal. read more

I've been here 3 times now, twice in the past couple of weeks. I want to start by saying how awesome it is that they expanded their area, so there's a lot more space, and places to sit. They really went all out with the decor, and beachside atmosphere. It's a great place to gather with buddies, and have some drinks and good food. A lot of times they have a live band there as well. My favorite drink is the "Fishbowl", with a tropical-like fruity taste. It's dangerous how good it tastes. You'll end up wanting a few. If burgers are something that you're craving, they don't having any on their menu, but they make up for it with a lot of different varieties of other foods. Their nachos are always great, with a few different options as far as added meats go. I typically go with the pulled pork. It costs a little extra, but it's worth it. My only thing was, I had ordered the Mac Attack Dog, I'm a big fan of Mac and cheese. The food was delicious, macaroni and hot dog included. What they don't really tell you is that it is piled on to a point where eating the dog with your hands without making a huge mess is practically impossible. Every time I tried to pick it up, mac and cheese and sauce just seemed to fall out from everywhere. It's definitely more of a fork (and maybe knife) type of deal. Still delicious! I just wish that was something that might be mentioned. All in all, it's great to see great establishments like this one growing in Muskegon, and it's exciting to see where this business goes! read more

It's in a beautiful location, but the drinks were terrible for the price. My friend was told that she couldn't smoke outside but the bartenders weren't enforcing having to wear a mask, employees were wearing masks below the nose and constantly taking them off to talk, and not ONE employee was wearing gloves even though they were handling cash! Taking cash and then touching my straw? No thanks! And what's up with the plastic glasses and straws?? You seriously don't understand the importance of biodegradable plastic and paper straws? We went 4 nights on Labor Day Weekend. I was with wifey and our 2 college age daughters. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were AWESOME. Great music, drinks, staff, security. I have a high stress job and have lost both my dad and mother in law in past year so i dance to blow off steam rather than take drugs or scripts. Am i good? Well. . Haters often say no--- but many others disagree-- including Machine Gun Kelly who dug my dancing a year ago (on my Instagram) and Steven Bauer who played Manny in Scarface, Don Eladio (sp?) in Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, and on Ray Donovan (Avi) also dug my dancing just months ago (also on my Instagram). However: on Sunday at The Deck---different security: another patron basically harassed me for an hour from a distance, he then later got up in my face and was insulting, aggressive, and threatening. I told him off and flipped him off several times as I saw security not even acknowledging the situation. Consequently: i get asked to leave YET the bully stays. Fans yelled in support of me literally all the way to the parking lot that they LOVED me . One fan came up to compliment me while security was asking me to leave. Prolly 50 people at The Deck specifically thanked me over the weekend for my moves saying "you made our night". I am not going to rate this place poorly on one day's misstep. Just please don't let bullies rule the roost. I wasn't the aggressor. Kick the bad guys out not the good ones. Anyhow, you aren't perfect but you are pretty awesome! read more

Worth it just for the views and being on the lake alone! We had a great night sitting outside and it was a good atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I thought the BBQ was very good and reasonably priced. There was a two dollar uncharge for fries instead of chips. The corn dip with flaming cheetos as a great appetizer! We were apprehensive but it was probably our favorite thing we ordered. I had a frozen vodka lemonade which was a little more liquid slush than frozen but it was still good. Go to The deck, order food and make an honest assessment. Yep...there it is. You know it and it's ok to admit it. Here's the deal. The Deck is a live music beach bar that happens to serve food. You're there for the location on the water , the stage made of cargo containers and the multilevel adult jungle gym equipped with swings. If that's what you want, that's great. For music, drinks and atmosphere, nothing tops it in Muskegon. But, let's not conflate it with a restaurant. The food is obviously pre-prepared, often comes out cold and over the last year, has decreased in quality. If you're looking for a great menu and a step up in food, wait for The Deck to close at summers end, and Pints and Quarts to open in the fall. The reality is this......if The Deck simply offered its food absent it's location, would you return...............exactly. read more

Heard good things about this place super excited to try it..we both had one meat and three sides..so disappointed with the flavors of the side dishes,couldn't even eat them.Grandma's macaroni had no flavor,the rice was bland and the tomato and onion salad was looking like it had been around for a while,with the cucumber added it was all turning milky.. A little too expensive for just meat and fries..$19.99 I feel they could be adding some flavor as everything was as bland as it could get.. Also staff attire..there was a young waitress who was wearing to short shorts,needed to pay attention to herself while leaning over wiping tables and what she was revealing to the rest of the patrons who were trying to enjoy their meal..
