Fun spot right on the beach! You can get a table to the right, but have to wait to be seated. You will have a server on this side. The left side is FCFS right on the beach with counter service. (You go up and order your drinks, take care of your trash, etc.) Food is typical bar fare, tacos, sandwiches, fries, dips, BBQ. We like the deck fries and the Brussels sprout tacos. They have live music everyday. Every time we have gone they have been cover bands. Perk: order a cocktail and get to keep the color changing cup it comes in! Cute place to eat right on the beach! My husband ordered a chopped brisket sandwich. My kids and I shared the chicken tenders and deck fries appetizer. It was a ton of food & delicious. I had a delicious strawberry daiquiri as well. We will definitely come back to the Deck if visiting Musekgon again. We have been to The Deck 2 times now and both times we had a great experience. To start, you want to get here early! This place gets busy! We have not had an issue finding parking, although it has been pretty packed - it is a paid parking lot so you have to get a ticket and put it on your dash. There are a lot of different options as far as where you can sit - but all are outside. You can sit at a table, on a swing, in the sand, etc. The lower area, where the bands play, is self service. There are bathrooms and porta-potties spread throughout the compound. There are different games for anyone to play - giant Jenga, giant connect 4, foosball, bags, etc. I believe they have live music every night! Both times we had a very personable server that seemed as thought they genuinely liked their job. Fun banter, attentive, and fast! Drinks and food come out quickly - they do use food / drink runners, too. This definitely helps keep things moving! Good drink selection - beers, seltzers, cocktails, frozen drinks, etc. Menu is based around smoked meats and they are delicious! Both times I have had the Smoked Chicken Burro Bowl - SO GOOD. Huge portion - comes with a delicious queso, huge side of chips, salsa, avocado jalapeno salsa, & sour cream. I can never finish it. We have also had the shrimp ceviche and the brussel appetizer and both were very good. Good options for kid's meals - bonus that kids meals are served on frisbees! Such a fun place to enjoy a meal outside and beautiful lakeshore! There is a pier right down the sidewalk from the restaurant, public beach, playground, etc. Fun destination to bring kids so they can play in the sand and have fun, too. We'll be back! read more

The Deck is hands down the coolest beach restaurant I've been to in Michigan! If sipping delicious slushee drinks while on a swing overlooking an expansive beach sounds like your cup of tea... you must go here immediately! Honestly... why have I not come here every weekend?! They have swings everywhere, a plethora of tables, colorful chairs and umbrellas in the sand, and a huge stage for live music (which they have several times per week)! Their slushee drinks were amazing and well priced. I tried the whiskey peach slushee and it was so good that I ended up "trying" it two more times. They have a "fish bowl" slushee that tastes like blue sorbet, your classic daquiri, and many more! Their menu is mostly tacos, bbq, and bar type food, and we liked the nashville hot chicken and the mac and cheese a lot! Our server, Heath, was very personable and friendly, attentive, and helped make our first experience here a great one. We cannot wait to go back! read more

Last night we arrived at the deck at approximately 7:40 we ordered our food then we walked in. They checked her IDs. We sat down. We ordered a drink and never received a text about our food. We walked in at approximately 7:50 PM. They had no problem checking our Ideas. The Bartender had no problem taking our drink order and 10 minutes later. They told us we're closed and nobody's got to go. At no point did they say we are closing in 10 minutes so we literally had to leave our drinks and leave. Still no text about our food that we paid for. So we go up to the window that we ordered at it's closed so we go to the other window. Do you have our $75 worth of food that we ordered because we never received a text and we got kicked out after only 10 minutes because you close at 8 PM. The two kids behind the counter had no clue. Finally a girl came up and found our order. Handed it to us. I asked for silverware, then asked for extra napkins and you thought I asked for the world. I don't understand why when we got there. They didn't tell us they were closing in 10 minutes. We spent money on food. We were planning on eating there and on drinks we were hoping to finish and drink there. Instead, we played close to $30 for drinks that we had to leave. I've never had problems at the Deck before, but this time it was awful and it will be a while before I go back. The staff could have done better. The staff should have let us know they were closing in 10 minutes. What a waste of money and drinks that we had to leave and had we not asked about our food we would've spent $75 for nothing as well. read more

I can't say I have ever spent three hours at a restaurant but I did this one. Not because I had to wait to be seated but because we got there early and we were curious about the live entertainment that arrived shortly. Upper deck wraps around the building to the stage so encourage the host to take you there to eat. We had no clue and sat on the side next to the volleyball courts. Nice anywhere and not a bad seat in the house except maybe on one of those swings? I just think we would have enjoyed people watching while we ate where all the action seemed to be happening. The food was satisfactory. My husband enjoyed the brisket while I indulged in the Ahi Tuna Salad. I recommend steering clear of the lime cilantro rice though. My batch was under cooked and actually crunchy while my husband's was overcooked and gummy. Super Fast Service, I guess that's why it got to the table that way. Everything else was spot on and I'd order it again. Unique seaweed salad and sesame seed dressing were the redeemers for the rice misstep. Everyone must arrive for the band! Who knew. We circumvented the wait list by arriving so early. The place was packing them in when we left around 8. Parking is a breeze but there's a charge so locate a kiosk and get out a credit card because I saw a police person checking windshields while we were there. We sat in the provided chairs on the beach for most of the show. Sat next to a couple who live in the area and brought their own folding chairs! I recommend doing the same thing because theirs were backbreakers after a while. Overall, we had a great time and I think if we travel this way again we'll try the family style dinner in a sack and skip the upper deck all together. Oh and bring beach chairs. Fun! read more

We love love love the Deck in Muskegon! Located right on Pere Marquette Beach just south of the channel leading out to Lake Michigan, the Deck offers smoked BBQ meats, yummy drinks, and live music! My family and I have visited several times with our kiddos. The kid's meals are large and the little ones can play right in the sand while you eat! It's so convenient and makes it easier to enjoy our meal. The food at The Deck is also amazing! They have a variety of smoked meat entrees including pulled pork, brisket and so much more. I loved their smoked sliders- fish, pork, and chicken- all amazing! And my hubby got the smoke brisket bowl which was also very tasty. This venue is perfectly situated on the sand at the entrance to Pere Marquette Beach in Muskegon. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon of Memorial Day weekend, we took the drive to Muskegon to visit the lakeshore and enjoy the weather. Finding a hopping BBQ joint and bar with live music and fun party people was a bonus! Very casual - beachwear is fine attire. Several outside deck levels for seating around a sandy amphitheater where folks can lounge on beach chairs, play volleyball, corn hole, foosball or other games and enjoy the band. Great vibe. We put in our name and had about a 15 minute wait for a table for two on the middle level deck right near the second of three bars. Servers were very busy, but friendly and efficient. We offered our server, Emma, a quick drink & food order so she didn't have to come back multiple times. The drinks were very good but pricey- I had the peach punch in a 22oz deck "mood cup" to take home. Hubs had a strawberry lemonade that was very refreshing. The BBQ was good, plenty of choices and sides and the portions were HUGE. We probably could have split a meat w/3 sides combo but ... nope. Hubs had that, I ordered a smoked chicken sandwich with deck fries and coleslaw. Both came with plenty of fixings including crisp pickles and pickled onions. Prices were moderate, but the value was increased by the serving sizes. We went out full of BBQ, with some for later. That's a happy thing when you have a cooler in the car and can snack on leftover BBQ on the hour drive back home. And I didn't spill any on my white clothes. This was a fun excursion. It was sandy, loud, a little crowded (holiday weekend), completely outdoors and it reminded me of adult spring breaks in St. Pete Beach. And who doesn't love a good beach party? We got drinks really quick as there are several outdoor bars to order drinks from. Great music, yard games, tables with swings, I love EVERYTHING about it! I asked a couple times and the server told me it wasn't ready. I came back to the window at 45 minutes and apparently you that was a long enough period of time to check in on the order. It hadn't even been started. Now they're out of brisket. So boo. The woman at the takeout window is really nice and doing her best to fix the situation, but our friends are done eating and I JUST got my food 56 minutes after we ordered... Our food was good, service was fine, it just took a long time. While the server apologized for our wait time we were not compensated in any way, which I was surprised by, honestly. I get that they are busy enough they don't HAVE to. We are local, we have been Harris Hospitality supporters for years. Obviously, they wouldn't know that. I think a gift card for $10 or an order of nachos would have gone a long way. Will we go back? Of course! We love the atmosphere, the staff and the food. I put in a reservation two hours in advance fully aware of how busy Saturday evenings get. Right when I was notified, we came immediately from the lower beach bar part and confirmed our reservation. The hostess confirmed that we were on time as well. The table in front of us was 19 minutes late, but they still gave them our table and made us wait an extra 20 minutes when it was your staffs at fault. What a great beach bar , makes you feel like places in the Caribbean or the keys , all outdoor dining with some covered areas , swings as seats in an area, others old pontoons , very beach feel and what a summer bar should be . We took a boat ride up anchored and took a dinghy in on a summer Saturday around 2:30 , drinks and late lunch were on our mind.... Walking up through the sand we came upon a long line to sign up for a table but our wait was minimal , less than 10 minutes . The lead at the hostess stand was busting her tail to get people seated , wait staff was quick to the table for a drink order and to provide menus . Did I mention what a view of the harbor , the beach and all the boats ... no better view anywhere . Drinks are plentiful and I was surprised by the refreshing summer relaxer , others enjoyed buckets of beer . The Mexican street corn is an eclectic app especially with pulled pork added ! The smoked turkey leg is fall off the bone goodness and the Cobb salad with Nashville chicken is the perfect blend of savory and heat . Our group also enjoyed the bowls and tacos as it was some of the best food of the summer . Now we even spotted a guest who appeared to be Santa clause in red overalls , Christmas shirt and some aviator shades dining on nachos . What's better than an outdoor bar in the sand. There is live music with a dancing area in the sand. There's many picnic tables for seating and also a restaurant off to the side. Dirty South Nachos was a big, hearty appetizer perfect for sharing. Lots of sauces to dip with, sweet and savory components, and of course waffle fries! There were good sized bowls, entrees and apps in the menu, definitely go check them out. The ambiance is stellar and is right off the beach. There is lower sand seating and upper deck which gives you a better view of the water. We were lucky we got to hang out here for the last summer weekend. My friend Brian grew up in Muskegon and is a life-long resident. He loves showing people around the city and sharing its history, and always knows the best places to go and eat. Yesterday evening was no exception as he recommended that we stop in for a bite at The Deck. Sitting right on the water, The Deck had a massive outdoor patio that they have "expanded" on by adding a couple of pontoon boats to the end of the patio. Our group of 4 got seated right away in a great spot overlooking the water and the volleyball court. Elizabeth was over to take our drink order as soon as we sat down and was back before we even had a chance to look at the menu with our drinks. I went with the meat + 3... which was a choice of meat and three sides. I went for the perch, mac and cheese, tomato and cucumber salad and french fries. Food was out really fast and was delicious and way too much. I had 6 pieces of perch and could only eat 3 of them, but they were delicious. Mice location within view of the lake and lighthouse. The parking and figuring out the parking meter leave some room for improvement but I digress When you go in the ask office you want to pay separately for the show (music attraction of the evening) I think that determines your seating area. The food is "ok" but the servings are huge. Like "no human should eat that much food" huge. Pleasant staff, ok food, and the music was either a bonus or noise pollution depending on your personal taste.
