I only had a snack, so I can't speak to their menu but they have a variety and great drinks to choose from! You just can't beat this setting. The ambiance of a meal on the deck with Lake Michigan in the background can't be beat. There is an abundance of live music from real good bands. The food is good. 4 out 5 stars and is a good value. I prefer to do the meat plus 3 sides. The meal is huge for the price. For as many people as they funnel through this place, the service is quick, friendly and attentive. Note: we have twice joined the waitlist online. Make sure you are with 10-15 minutes of the restaurant before adding to the waitlist! We tried this and were shown a 25-35 minute wait until our table was ready. Within 8-10 min we got a text saying the table is ready and to get there within 10 min or we would be taken off the waitlist. This happened yesterday but they were able to put us back on at the top of the list with only a 5-10 minute wait. read more

Here's a LABOR DAY secret for everyone out there. DO NOT JOIN THE WAITLIST...ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SLIP THE HELP $100, AND YOU COULD AVOID WAITING. HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR GROUP on Friday before Father's Day... We joined the wait list... we were #79 on the list. Roughly 2 hours later, we were finally seated. As we were getting our food, a group of 10 were finished eating, and the busboy was clearing the tables. A group of 5-6 people were walking around the restaurant looking for a table. THERE ARE SIGNS ALL OVER THE RESTAURANT TO NOT SEAT YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU NEED TO REGISTER AT THE FRONT ENTRANCE TO BE SEATED. SEATING BY HOTESS ONLY... We were # 79 and waited nearly 2 hours. Well, this group of 6 asked the busboy if they could have the table. The busboy told them that THEY COULD NOT BE SEATED UNLESS THE HOSTESS BROUGHT THEM FROM THE WAIT LIST. Just then, a couple of waitresses came over to help clean the tables off. A man in the group then offered $100 to the waitresses if he could be seated... HE STOOD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DECK YELLING HE'D PAY $100 FOR A TABLE... I WAS 3 FOOT AWAY FROM THE CONVERSATION AND HEARD EVERYTHING. THE WAITRESSES TOOK THE MONEY AND SAT THE GROUP...BYPASSING THE 2 HOUR WAIT LIST. A few minutes later, after they were seated, I asked for a manager to come over to my table. The young black lady with short blonde hair asked me what the problem was. I told her how I watched the bribe payment for BYPASSING the wait list and she tried to lie to me saying that they were on the list but just waiting for a large table to open up...I told her that was BULLSHIT because I watched and overheard the $100 bribe go down. The manager finally admitted that they did take the $100 and seated the group WITHOUT being on the list. "But what do you want me to do?" She asked me. I told her I wanted my food "comped" for following the waitlist rules when all I could have done was bribe a waitress and avoid waiting 2 hours for seating. The manager said she couldn't do that, so I said I would "leave them a good review" and went back to eating. About 10 minutes later, a second male manager came over to our table and tried to tell us the same lie that the group was on the list waiting for multiple tables. I called BULLSHIT to his face and told him to stop talking. I watched and heard the $100 bribe get paid to the waitresses. They even gave the $100 bill to one of the 3 waitresses to get change so they could split the $100... the male manager then said he'd have to check out my story... he returned about 10 minutes later and ADMITTED THAT WE HAD BUSTED THEM, TAKING THE $100 TO BYPASS THE 2 HOUR WAIT LIST..."But what do you want me to do... make them get up and wait?" I SAID YES MAKE THEM GET UP AND WAIT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE OR COMP, MY FOOD. The male manager said he'd have to think about it and would get back to us. He came back in about 5 minutes and said that he "wasn't going to comp our food and we could just leave if we didn't like it. We got our check from our waitress, and I asked the waitress for the 2 managers' names, and she responded that "she doesn't know and we need to leave." I tried to contact owners Fred Scharmer & Michelle Harris by leaving at least one message a week from Father's Day weekend until August 20th but NEVER GOT A CALL BACK. Our only complaint was it was rainy so we couldn't enjoy all the outdoor features This was the last weekend they're open so they were out of a few things, but the food we got tasted good. The smoked meats were a favorite, we had the dirty south nachos (I don't eat pork) but wow were they good!! The sweet potato waffle fries and smoked pork was amazing topped with a sort of corn salsa and dipping sauce was honey mustard. Wouldn't have thought about having that combination of foods together but it worked out great!! The Paloma frozen drink was too good, I could have been sipping on those all day (but had to be responsible so I couldn't). I don't generally leave bad reviews for restaurants based on service because I know being a server can have its rough nights but I was also a server for 7 years and there's really no excuse for treating a table like absolute trash. We were sat at our table and right from the get go our server, CARRIE L., came to our table and did not greet us but just said what do you want to drink- not a busy night either. Ok we ordered our drinks. They came and then she proceeded with what do you want to order? Again no smile, no greeting, no do you have any questions about the menu, etc. so we ordered and didn't cause a fuss about it. A young man brought our food out and was very polite. Carrie came to bring out one final item and we asked if she could bring some more napkins and flatware to the table she replied "he will bring it over not me" meaning the young man who brought the food over. This made me question... who is actually our server then? Throughout dinner our drinks ran dry and we got zero refills, we needed some condiments and received none because she never came back to the table until it was time to cash out - at which time we also weren't asked if we wanted dessert..... which we wouldn't not have ordered anyway after this service. This is such a disappointing experience and looking back we should have brought it to managements attention but hopefully they read this and understand that they need to teach their staff that their attitudes project on the restaurant as a whole not just that one person. It also reflects on management and what expectations are set on how customers should be treated. We have been to The Deck 2 times now and both times we had a great experience. To start, you want to get here early! This place gets busy! We have not had an issue finding parking, although it has been pretty packed - it is a paid parking lot so you have to get a ticket and put it on your dash. There are a lot of different options as far as where you can sit - but all are outside. You can sit at a table, on a swing, in the sand, etc. The lower area, where the bands play, is self service. There are bathrooms and porta-potties spread throughout the compound. There are different games for anyone to play - giant Jenga, giant connect 4, foosball, bags, etc. I believe they have live music every night! Both times we had a very personable server that seemed as thought they genuinely liked their job. Fun banter, attentive, and fast! Drinks and food come out quickly - they do use food / drink runners, too. This definitely helps keep things moving! Good drink selection - beers, seltzers, cocktails, frozen drinks, etc. Menu is based around smoked meats and they are delicious! Both times I have had the Smoked Chicken Burro Bowl - SO GOOD. Huge portion - comes with a delicious queso, huge side of chips, salsa, avocado jalapeno salsa, & sour cream. I can never finish it. We have also had the shrimp ceviche and the brussel appetizer and both were very good. Good options for kid's meals - bonus that kids meals are served on frisbees! Such a fun place to enjoy a meal outside and beautiful lakeshore! If sipping delicious slushee drinks while on a swing overlooking an expansive beach sounds like your cup of tea... you must go here immediately! Honestly... why have I not come here every weekend?! They have swings everywhere, a plethora of tables, colorful chairs and umbrellas in the sand, and a huge stage for live music (which they have several times per week)! Their slushee drinks were amazing and well priced. I tried the whiskey peach slushee and it was so good that I ended up "trying" it two more times. They have a "fish bowl" slushee that tastes like blue sorbet, your classic daquiri, and many more! We love love love the Deck in Muskegon! Located right on Pere Marquette Beach just south of the channel leading out to Lake Michigan, the Deck offers smoked BBQ meats, yummy drinks, and live music! My family and I have visited several times with our kiddos. The kid's meals are large and the little ones can play right in the sand while you eat! It's so convenient and makes it easier to enjoy our meal. The food at The Deck is also amazing! They have a variety of smoked meat entrees including pulled pork, brisket and so much more. What a great beach bar , makes you feel like places in the Caribbean or the keys , all outdoor dining with some covered areas , swings as seats in an area, others old pontoons , very beach feel and what a summer bar should be . We took a boat ride up anchored and took a dinghy in on a summer Saturday around 2:30 , drinks and late lunch were on our mind.... Walking up through the sand we came upon a long line to sign up for a table but our wait was minimal , less than 10 minutes . The lead at the hostess stand was busting her tail to get people seated , wait staff was quick to the table for a drink order and to provide menus . Did I mention what a view of the harbor , the beach and all the boats ... no better view anywhere . Drinks are plentiful and I was surprised by the refreshing summer relaxer , others enjoyed buckets of beer . The Mexican street corn is an eclectic app especially with pulled pork added ! The smoked turkey leg is fall off the bone goodness and the Cobb salad with Nashville chicken is the perfect blend of savory and heat . This venue is perfectly situated on the sand at the entrance to Pere Marquette Beach in Muskegon. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon of Memorial Day weekend, we took the drive to Muskegon to visit the lakeshore and enjoy the weather. Finding a hopping BBQ joint and bar with live music and fun party people was a bonus! Very casual - beachwear is fine attire. Several outside deck levels for seating around a sandy amphitheater where folks can lounge on beach chairs, play volleyball, corn hole, foosball or other games and enjoy the band. Great vibe. We put in our name and had about a 15 minute wait for a table for two on the middle level deck right near the second of three bars. Servers were very busy, but friendly and efficient. We offered our server, Emma, a quick drink & food order so she didn't have to come back multiple times. The drinks were very good but pricey- I had the peach punch in a 22oz deck "mood cup" to take home. Hubs had a strawberry lemonade that was very refreshing. The BBQ was good, plenty of choices and sides and the portions were HUGE. We probably could have split a meat w/3 sides combo but ... nope. Hubs had that, I ordered a smoked chicken sandwich with deck fries and coleslaw. Both came with plenty of fixings including crisp pickles and pickled onions. Prices were moderate, but the value was increased by the serving sizes. We went out full of BBQ, with some for later. That's a happy thing when you have a cooler in the car and can snack on leftover BBQ on the hour drive back home. And I didn't spill any on my white clothes. This was a fun excursion. It was sandy, loud, a little crowded (holiday weekend), completely outdoors and it reminded me of adult spring breaks in St. Pete Beach. And who doesn't love a good beach party? Not because I had to wait to be seated but because we got there early and we were curious about the live entertainment that arrived shortly. Upper deck wraps around the building to the stage so encourage the host to take you there to eat. We had no clue and sat on the side next to the volleyball courts. Nice anywhere and not a bad seat in the house except maybe on one of those swings? I just think we would have enjoyed people watching while we ate where all the action seemed to be happening. The food was satisfactory. My husband enjoyed the brisket while I indulged in the Ahi Tuna Salad. I recommend steering clear of the lime cilantro rice though. My batch was under cooked and actually crunchy while my husband's was overcooked and gummy. Super Fast Service, I guess that's why it got to the table that way. Everything else was spot on and I'd order it again. Unique seaweed salad and sesame seed dressing were the redeemers for the rice misstep. Everyone must arrive for the band! Who knew. We circumvented the wait list by arriving so early. The place was packing them in when we left around 8. Parking is a breeze but there's a charge so locate a kiosk and get out a credit card because I saw a police person checking windshields while we were there. We sat in the provided chairs on the beach for most of the show. Sat next to a couple who live in the area and brought their own folding chairs! I recommend doing the same thing because theirs were backbreakers after a while. Overall, we had a great time and I think if we travel this way again we'll try the family style dinner in a sack and skip the upper deck all together. Oh and bring beach chairs. Fun! read more
