The food was typical beachy bar food. There were a lot of fried items on the menu which I normally steer clear of. I got the crab cake sandwich. The roll was fresh, the crab cake was fine but I've had better. Side of coleslaw was good, not overly mayo-y. Limoncello cake was ok but was probably frozen from a box. Overall, A-J's is pretty average. Nothing was bad, but there's no wow factor either. Still, it's worth a visit to dine with the sunset view.

The whole place is designed to feel like the inside of a trailer--spray-painted antique chandeliers, old pictures of different trailer parks, and random little details everywhere. It's kitschy, but very intentional, and honestly pretty cool. We came in late after a 4h drive into town after work, and the staff was still super friendly and accommodating. No "we're about to close" energy, which I appreciated. We started with the creamy collard dip, which is basically their take on spinach-artichoke dip, but with collards. Really good. I do think the chips were a little too heavy for the dip--a thinner chip would've been perfect--but that's a small note. The chicken pancake tacos were probably my favorite. The chicken was fried perfectly and still really moist. And at this point, I'm convinced Savannah just knows how to cook chicken. Everywhere we went, the chicken was consistently good. My partner got the grilled apple pie sandwich, which has fried chicken, grilled apples and bacon. He's not even a big pork person, but that bacon was so crispy and the whole combination just worked. Even the waffle fries were good--crispy, fresh and actually seasoned. We had the Grateful Dead and Wicked Kiwi cocktails, plus a couple of shots, and the drinks were strong, good and reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't have a ton of notes here. It's not trying to be some elevated dining experience. It's just a really good late-night spot with good food, strong drinks, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. We sat inside because Savannah in August was not about to have us sitting on anybody's patio. Definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for somewhere to eat late. A big rainstorm blew in so we had a round at the bar watching the French open tennis. The two bartenders were nice, and one helped analyze weather radar so we could know when it was safe to bike a few miles back to hotel. Lightning had been big with sheets of rain! I appreciate not having to sit around looking crazy! Soon, a waitress named Nicki came over to help me. She was a sweetheart! During my visit I had their steamed oysters, rib plate and the frozen lemonade. The steamed oysters were a bittt overcooked but they worked! The ribs were superrr tender but I wish they had some more meat on them, but I was surprised at how tender they were. The frozen lemonade was delicious and super refreshing! I just don't feel like there was enough liquor in it, and I'm not even one to like too much liquor. All in all, a basic experience when it comes to food, but I was really impressed with the level of service I received, the timeliness of my order and the overall vibe of the restaurant. They even have a buffet that was getting a lot of action. Not from me though... I'm good on that in this world of germs!
