Disappointing experience at The Delta unfortunately! Firstly, I hate QR code menus. We sat down, looked at the drink menu (on our phones of course) and then the waitress came back to take our order. I found the cocktails here to be so insanely expensive for what this place is. They ranged from $16-22 which was the same price as some of the entrees. Because of this, I decided to order a cider on draft. Our server came back and asked for our drink order and then let me know that there were no drinks on tap available that night. I was offered a high noon as a substitute. This is something that the server should have let us know as soon as we sat down. It was right when the restaurant opens, and we picked up immediately when it was estimated to be ready. Since our order was so large, I think most items had been sitting a while and cooled. The Delta Wings weren't crispy, Cornbread became dry, fries soggy, etc. The Singapore Street Noodles was my favorite dish, had a little kick to it, generous shrimp, and bouncy noodles. WUTANG WEDNESDAYS are great. All the food and drinks are named after Wutang songs and they play Wutang all night. I enjoyed myself. The place is a bit small so my friend and I sat at the bar not to sit so close to the next group. The staff was really nice and made great recommendations. The meatloaf was amazingly good. Wow this place was a bit of a hidden gem! We came for Friday night happy hour which was 5-7 and half off their cocktail menu which included the large formaT drinks. I will say... "large format" is definitely generous as it wasn't much larger than a normal cup and def was on the low side for alcohol but it was delicious! Went for brunch and I'm sad to say it was very mid. First thing the server told us was they were out of hash browns but they could substitute fries, and someone was going to get hash browns so they'd have them soon. Being from the south, we wanted to try their sweet tea, and we were told they were out of that, too and had been out for "a day or two." The server recommended the family-style brunch for two. This sounded like a great option--fried chicken, bacon, honey-butter biscuits, hash browns, grits, cornbread, bread pudding, scrambled eggs. Sounded like a feast. What arrived was a bit less than our expectations. Instead of a bounty of fried chicken with fixins, there were two slim pieces of crispy, under-seasoned fried chicken off the bone, approximately equivalent to a chicken finger a piece. The grits were cheesy and had good flavor. The bacon came in a sweet glaze, kind of a pumpkin pie vibe. I wasn't expecting that (the menu just said bacon), but it didn't bother me. There was a mountain of hashbrowns on the plate, and they were pretty good (and I was glad we actually got them instead of the fries). The scrambled eggs were under-seasoned and overall underwhelming. They didn't add much to the plate. The cornbread was dry, but cornbread is always dry to me. I'm not a cornbread fan in general, but I liked the herb butter on top of it--had kind of a Thanksgiving stuffing taste. The biscuit was ok, but also dry. I wish they'd served little sides of the butters with the baked goods. For a sharing plate, it might have been nicer to have the baked goods portioned with two smaller pieces instead of one big slab of each. The bread pudding was tasty, but again, was not revolutionary. The price for this family-style brunch plate is not a bad price for two people, but the value isn't there. It ultimately amounted to a plate of side dishes. I would not recommend you order this. The space itself is pretty cool. I liked the tchotchkes lining the wall behind the seating area, but they may want to go give them a little attention. Batter on the shrimp was well seasoned and light and crispy, with a divine Cajun aioli. Animal fries were better than in n out, with a cheesy sauce and well fried fries. The Delta is one of the more "urban" feeling restaurants in Wicker Park if you know what I'm saying. Certainly adds to the authenticity. Of course there's a strong blues presence and that adds to it even more. A difference from food typically from the Mississippi Delta is there's quite a few vegan choices. It lets everyone get a taste of good Southern home cooking. The last time here we got the Vegan Red Hots. It's $10 for a bundle of three, and these were pretty big. The ingredients include cush, which is cornmeal hash. It's not Southern without cornmeal. There's also wild mushrooms. Finally these are wrapped in corn husks. The husks aren't edible, only the red hots inside. Cool place but a few regulars here certainly like to holla. It can get pretty loud, especially later. There were 3 slices of bacon, so we each got 1 - it was good, just wanted more. (Options to purchase more if wanted/needed, but they don't share the pricing). There were 2 things of the fried chicken but we cut each into 3 smaller pieces to share - this was also good! The eggs were fine - needed seasoning for sure! The cheesy grits were average 3/5. Tye was the one good highlight of my experience here It's black owned business week and we were doing our own Galentine date We were all cute and excited but the excited quickly ended We were a party of four. We sat in the back of the restaurant. Would just like an enclosed patio. It is heated but where we were seated. We were right under the speaker and we constantly had to ask the young man to get the DJ or whoever is in charge of the sound to turn it down. How are you? Going to see people in an enclosed space but have the value the highest it could possibly go while they're trying to enjoy their conversation as well as their experience. Way too loud. The food first round came out with like a slice of corn bread or biscuit and the bread pudding. It was okay. That's the best I can put it. It was okay and I was starving. I really didn't want to fill up on the carbs. So then when we get the rest of the dish it consists of eggs. Some type of hash brown bacon and cheesy grits which you are supposed to share which feeds two people which was $60. So that's not cheap for $30. I want to have a great meal and enjoy each thing individually. I can't say any one of those things was great. I will put it as average. The average potatoes were average. I didn't try to bacon the chicken average. I asked for more cuz it would definitely wasn't enough to share for two people. It was kind of fried hard when you kind of say or maybe that was the consistency of a supposed to have. Nobody was a fan. Everybody was quiet at the table. I don't think anyone enjoyed their food. It did come out. Probably it just didn't taste good. It was definitely not what I was expecting and I feel kind of duped because what got me there was their Instagram presence and everybody partying. The music was pumping. I think the music was the best part of the experience but the food I will only come there for drinks if I was in the area.
