My husband and I visited The Diner on 8/28/24 about an hour before closing. We are local to the area and had been here before. On this day, Lorra our server was awesome. We had never had her as our server before. She actually seemed to care how our experience was and made sure everything was good and we had everything we needed. Let me say up front that the food was very good. Both of us ordered from the burger menu for lunch and enjoyed the burgers. The server was excellent, you could tell she was working her pants off busy, the steady stream of people didn't stop for the hour+ that we were there. So, once start for the food - 2 stars for the server herself. Here's the issue I had. The woman that 'greeted' us, if it could be called that, when we first walked in. Brisk tone aside, informing us we would 'have to wait', is fine, completely ignored the individuals that came in 5 minutes after us (they wound up leaving). But 10 minutes after informing us we would have to wait, to tell us it would be longer because the server had one whole side of the diner and she didn't want to seat us until the waitresses a chance to get everyone's food out first...ok??? But if it was such a big deal, and the server was so over worked, why did she then stand behind the counter watching the girl work her @$$ off for another 10 minutes, leaving us standing in the doorway. You could have sat us with apologetic explanations that our order wouldn't be gotten until she had the food out for the tables already seated. Didn't even help the server out by taking our drink orders - no - you made us wait for her to do it. Pretty crappy management, considering the current job market for servers, you'll be lucky to keep her, as she was excellent, and she deserves better. read more

We went here today for lunch just after 1pm, the diner was less than half full, was very hot like the hvac was broken, very dirty and flies on the windows inside. We were seated when we got there and sat for 15 minutes before the server approached our table. We watched the server take the order of the table next to us, check on tables on the other side of us and ignore us for 15 minutes. Then she walked up to our table unapologetically, asking us what we'd like to order. We had already felt uncomfortable with the restaurant when we walked in and began to sweat from the heat, but after being ignored for 15 minutes we decided to walk out. From the filth to the horrible service, we cannot recommend this place and we can only recommend to avoid this establishment. I would give it zero stars, but apparently yelp won't allow it, so it gets one star. read more

This is one of those restaurants that get great reviews and you go there only to find disappointment. The only thing I can say is my eggs and bacon were ok! The homefries were not seasoned and very soggy. The grits are those instagrits. The place was very dirty and bathroom had mold on ceilings. When I came back from the bathroom you can see into the kitchen where they had a container of spaghetti left open and there gnats flying around. If your eating on a budget this is the place for you that's the only positive remark I can give. read more

Can't say that this was the best experience or diner food that i've ever had. We walked into so much smoke from the food when we walked in the door. We were quickly seated in an area where there was no smoke, thank goodness. The owner was super friendly and kept walking around and making casual jokes with our table. However, it took forever for our server to get to our table and take our order & she just wasn't very friendly or efficient the whole meal. * After finally placing our order, the food came out pretty quick. I got the club sandwich with fries. (After waiting so long to place my order, I no longer wanted breakfast) The presentation of the club sandwich was great! The sandwich itself was below average. There wasn't enough meat to cover the bread. And there was hardly any bacon. :( I was expecting your typical club sand with lots of meat. Pretty hard to screw up a club sandwich. Absolutely zero COVID-19 measures despite Sevier County's still having mask mandates for restaurants and other public health measures. Absolutely infuriating that a public establishment would be this irresponsible as we try to fight a pandemic. And the food was pitiful to boot. Their "Cajun burger" is literally just a burnt cheeseburger with some Old Bay sprinkled on top. This was the lowlight of our trip to Sevier County and we will never, ever be back. We stopped here for lunch while visiting and it was actually delish! It did take a while - we were there for an hour or so, but the food was really yummy, classic diner food. And really affordable - like less than $10 for most menu items. HOWEVER, there were zero COVID measures taken. None of the staff wore masks, and all of the condiments were on the table (salt, pepper, mustard, ketchup, Mayo) and it didn't look like they were taking any extra cleaning measures or keeping people (tables) 6 feet apart. Honestly I'm very supposed that they were able to operate without taking proper COVID measures. Also, the staff was super super suuuper terrible. Rude, grumpy, not smiley, our waiter seemed frustrated with us from the beginning. The primary reason for my rating is the very weak Covid protections in place. No mask wearing by waitresses or cashier -although there was a canister of disinfectant there. Condiments were on the table; not disposable. Plastic menus. Separation between tables were kind of there at best. Wife's quesadilla was satisfactory. My chicken Philly was laughable. I asked for Swiss cheese so it came with two cold pieces of Swiss laying on top of the chicken. Onions and peppers were sparse. The French fries were good. This is another one that's hurts to write about. We really wanted this place to be awesome. The food was not what we expected at all based on the menu descriptions. Got the Seiver Skillet and asked for eggs over easy, not what was delivered...rock hard eggs. Cold Cheese slices layer over the top not melted or warmed at all. My wife ordered two eggs over easy and got the same, rock hard yolks. From the outside the building looks really cool. The inside needs a little sprucing up. Service was ok. Coffee was good. The omelet was still runny and under cooked while the hashbrowns were on the crispy side. The toast was, well, toast. The corned beef hash was over cooked and had a lot of charred bits, the fried apples were watered down and didn't taste like much. I knew they were apples but it was just blah. Over medium eggs were down properly and the pancake was large and rather delicious. This 3 item + bread plate ran ($7.75 + premium charge for the corned beef hash).
