40 minute waits for basic American food. I gave this location 2 attempts to impress with what it has (i.e. location, price, food, staff, etc.) and was left disappointed. The staff are friendly, but the kitchen is slow; Slow on both busy days and quiet days. The food is a bit over priced and you get nothing special for it. A hot dog is a hot dog (just not boiled). A $7.00 Corn Dog is just a basic Corn Dog, no different than the frozen kind you get from the store. In the end, you get a better overall experience and quicker turn around times for chow from the other eateries in town. read more

My daughter and I went there to eat lunch, on Father's Day, so it was slammed. I expected a wait, so I wasn't upset, the food came pretty fast despite how many people were ordering. The women behind the counter were very nice and pleasant seeing as they were very busy and it was hot in there. The food is priced pretty good for Bodega Bay and the portions are fair. I really liked the old fashion dog and my daughter had the corn dog, which was also very good. I wasn't impressed with their fries, they were very soft and could have been fried longer. I do not understand the bad reviews about this place. There was nothing bad about it. I was craving a chili dog and I was not disappointed. My wife got the steak sandwich which was great. I loved the buns they used and the burgers looked good too. Some people need to get over the thought that burgers have to come on a round bun. The condiment bar was nice, I like the fact they used high quality pickles. And for the people that dissed on the fries are wrong. I am guessing they are used to over processed frozen fries and don't have an appreciation or understanding of fresh fries. Do not listen to the bad reviewers on this one, it is a little hotdog/burger joint and that's what you get. Some reviewers mentioned the prices are a little high and they are, but they are not compromising the quality either so you are getting what you pay for. The signs on the road tell you how to get there so look for them. the food tastes exactly how the place looks. Had the chili cheese polish dog and lots of fries came with it. They don't skimp on it. Had to use fork and knife. Its a lot of food so if you're not used to that heavy type, may want to go halfies on the meal itself with someone. Found this out of the way place by following the colorful signs to the "espresso" place next door. We needed just a snack to hold us over to dinner so we ordered the fries with a side of chili. Healthy - no. Delicious - yes! Golden fries that looked like they had been hand cut. Chili was super good. Hubby and I dipped the fries into hot sauce then chili...perfect for the 58F day. Went here a couple of times in Aug '10. One was during a nice summer day, and the other time was late one evening when they opened up this place for snacks post-wedding reception. It filled the void. We were from out of town and stopped here from the yelp reviews as it was close to where we were driving around at the time. It wasn't bad...but I didn't think it was that good either. I ordered the veggie burger because, yes...I am mostly a vegetarian. And I suppose I should't complain that it was just ok...because it wasn't home made. But I will say that the fresh potatoe french fries were pretty delish! It was a late lunch for us, so I didn't want to stuff myself with the fries, but they do offer UNLIMITED fries...which is a good deal. I'm kind of a germ-a-phobe, so I was not too fond of the serve yourself condiment bar. It's a nice idea...but I prefer things to be a little more sanitary. What a disappointment! The hot dog was OK. The fries were slightly better than OK. The price was insulting. $20 for two hot dogs, "unlimited" fries (they come with, so you can't order less than "unlimited"), and two sodas? You're kidding me, right?? I love the location, facing the water. The outdoor tables were cute. I had such high hopes, especially considering all the great Yelp reviews, but maybe I'm too cheap for this place. I'm just saying $20 for a mediocre hot dog is pretty lame. Also, they fillet the hot dog open and serve it that way on the bun. That's weird. My mom used to do that when I was kid, but she rightly called it a hot dog sandwich. Dogs are allowed on their outside patio, which has a great view of the bay. It's always nice to find a dog friendly spot! Alas, that is pretty much the best part of our experience at The Dog House. I had a turkey burger with Bacon and asked for it to be wrapped in lettuce, no bun, as I have a gluten allergy. The place was not busy (one order ahead of us, only 3 tables full total). When the order was ready, it was on a bun. When I uncomfortably mentioned it, she took it back and just changed the fillings over to lettuce. The other guy at the side of the counter (not sure if he worked there or just loitering) told her not to throw the bun away. The fries were disgusting. They were limp and dripping with oil. I'm not quite sure why I ate them. How hard is it to make somewhat palatable fries?! The turkey burger was a frozen store bought bland patty. The bacon was nice and thick. I felt really bad for a few hours after eating there. I'm not sure whether some gluten got on my burger, or if it was just the sea of oil from the fries. It would have been a solid one star rating, except I do appreciate being able to bring the pup. Extra star for being dog friendly. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the street but let me tell you it's fantastic! It is located within walking distance from our hotel (bodega coast inn) we went and tried it one day and even went back the very next day! I had the chili dog. It comes with all you can eat fries. The chili on the hot dog was so good and flavorful! The hot dog was meaty and juicy on a big bun with sesame seeds. Delicious!!! The fries come plain and they have a whole bar of condiments for your fries and hot dogs. Different sauces, salts and produce. The fries were super fresh too. I'm not a big French fry person and I found myself eating all of them! My husband got the corn dog and omg if I wasn't so stuffed from the chili dog I would have had that too! We also tried the hamburgers which were big, and very good! The meat was really flavorful. They have some bottled beer that we enjoyed and sat inside one time and outside the next enjoying the view or the bay. If you have dachshunds (wiener dogs) like we do, or love dogs in general all the iron signs and little trinkets will amuse you! Both times we were there Rebel helped us. Such a friendly lady! Showed us some of the funnier signs, chatted with us and helped us with info for places to go and see. We truly found a gem when we found this place! Definitely should try it out! I purchased their Salmon Burger today (it was my first time there) No joke, it was a hot dog bun with 2 pieces of dry Salmon on it. THATS IT!! There was no lettuce, onions, tomato or even any sauce!! My husband and I went here for dinner because the restaurant to which we were going, Spud Point Crab Company, closed before we got there. The Dog House is close to where we're staying and because of the Yelp reviews, we decided to try it. The woman behind the counter was friendly. I ordered the salmon sandwich and my husband ordered the chili cheese dog. The salmon was a salmon patty that could have come from the frozen section at Costco. It was cut in half and put on too soft a bun which didn't hold up and was falling apart as I tried to eat it. The sauce served with it tasted too much like stone ground mustard and didn't complement the salmon. It was very disappointing. My husband liked his chili cheese dog but it was just a chili cheese dog and there was nothing special about it. My husband and I stopped in after hiking around Bodega Bay. All we wanted was a burger. What we got looked like a burger, but tasted like sawdust. I ordered the garden burger, which was very painful to eat. If I wasn't a vegan, I would've thrown it away and gotten ice cream next door. My husband got the turkey burger, he was just as unsatisfied and even more willing to throw it in the trash. There was a bit of family drama going on with the staff which was pretty uncomfortable. Walked in and the first thing I saw was a worker behind the counter cutting open a bag of raw ground beef and it dripping on the cutting board. She then wiped up the liquid with a wet cloth. Later she was cutting lettuce and had buns on the same surface. No gloves at all. Condiments are set out on counter and are not kept cold enough to be safe. I should have run yelling from the place but wasn't by myself, so ended up (regretfully) staying. We waited a very long time for our food. Fries are not good - greasy and soft. They were the only thing I really ate and am just hoping I don't get sick. Avoid this place! I didn't see a health score in the window so hopefully the health dept pays a visit. read more

The service here is exceptional, as is the food. As a frequent visitor of the area, I have eaten at just about every food establishment on the coast. This place is good for a quick bite. They offer corn dogs, homemade French fries (totally not greasy like the other reviews said..they're bottomless too), gardenburgers, chicken breast sandwiches, hot dogs and burgers. There is a small area in the corner by the entrance with different seasoning salts, veggies and condiments. The place is owned and ran by 3 hard-working sisters. Their service is fast, and friendly. Wow! I'm surprised this place has so many negative reviews. The prices aren't great here, but they also aren't super bad. Around 8-10 dollars for a lunch I would say is average. I also LOVE their fries, and I'm pretty picky about fries. It's hard to take advantage of the endless pit of fries when they began by giving you so many. I've only had their hot dogs here but they have always been juicy and filling. I need to try one of their so called "best burgers" This is the perfect place to come after a day on the beach. Sit outside in a bikini with a towel wrapped around your waist and drink some Snapple and of course munch of a big dog and greasy fries! Yum! Too bad the inside seating here is depressing or else this would be a good place for winter trips! Star off for the sad inside and long drive to get here. read more

This place is a MUST for when we visit the beach. Friendly staff serving delicious food at reasonable prices. Our favorites are the polish and the fire dog; for any vegetarians, the garden burger is pretty tasty and juicy. Seating is limited so you might have to stand and wait your turn. They have a large selection of condiments that is usually available in a self serve manner, but with Covid-19 precautions, they are available individually portioned by request. Currently, ordering is done through the window and food presented on a folding table blocking the door. The line to order is marked 6ft apart while waiting but not really in a good spot, it goes between some of the tables where ppl are sitting. This is just a great, hole in the wall lunch place if you are staying in Bodega Bay. Nothing fancy inside, couple of tables and counter looking out at the bay for seating and then tables outside, but a bit misty so we stayed in. Girl manning the grill was working solo and was super friendly and taking care of multiple families at once. Hot dog prices are like going to a Major League Baseball game $6 or so, but there are nice sized dogs and Vienna not supermarket brand and can taste the quality. 3 of the 4 kids had the "old fashioned" with lots of choices of condiments at the bar, flavored salts etc. Fries were golden and delicious and come with each meal. Youngest had grilled cheese and was multiple cheeses and in his 6 year old opinion "the cheesiest cheese sandwich ever" Wife and I split the half pounder and girl working split it for us with our own equal amount of fries on different plates. Beer was available and food came out promptly. Bud's ice cream is next door and will hit that next time. It is not cheap, but after all, this is California. Food was well prepared, not greasy, super tasty and filling. Totally recommend for any family on the road or in town. Will hit it again while we are there this week. read more

About $3 worth of dog, burnt to $2 worth, minus $1 for waiting forever... but for $7... The ice cream & coffee shop next door is great, so I guess they have that going for them. For a simple dog joint, it gets five stars. This doesn't mean it's a five star restaurant, but it does get five stars for what it does. BUY THE FRIES! They cut the fries themselves, and you get the skin on them. Very tasty. Condiment bar has plenty of options to dress up your food (including several types of salt for your FRIES). They have garden burgers for a vegetarian option. I found the man running the business friendly and sociable. I was there with three others on a 800 mile bike tour, and we at first ordered one order of fries (others were getting ice cream next door). It was a slow Tuesday, and they did NOT have fries sitting around under a heat lamp, but had to cook up a new batch. When my travel companions decided to order more fries, the owner gave them the left-overs from my batch while they waited for the new batch to come in. read more

Really good hot dogs and nice, friendly and helpful staff. Short wait. Tables outside and I think a couple inside, though I've never sat in there. And I had a delicious grilled cheese there one time. We try to go whenever we're in town. And Davey's next door has great latte's, some good pastries and ice cream, and the BEST thing is that Dave himself, a former fisherman, knows EVERYTHING about Bodega Bay and will tell you if you're pleasant. Ordering and waiting for food is a nightmare. Condiments as all self serve, unsanitary, and the small cluttered condiments counter is always crowded, as they are right by the door. The topper is that the cook was pulling out the hotdogs from the water with her hands and handling everything with her hands. I have had a better eating experience at a little league snack bar. My baby sister got car sick for the first time ever today we were heading to the beach and stopped to have lunch here. Asked the nice lady's who worked here if they knew where we could by clothes to fit a toddler and they went in back and found the smallest sweater they had to give to my sister who is 23 months old.
