California eggs Benny with home fries.
Andi W.

I really wanted to love this meal, I've only had The Embers once before and it was takeout ribs, I thought the ribs were great so I assumed they'd have great breakfasts as well but unfortunately there was nothing great about this meal at all. My man described it as tired and uninspired. The home fries were just potatoes, no onion, no peppers, no flavor. The chicken fried steak is the worst I've had at a restaurant, the steak tasted like a Salisbury steak from a box in the freezer section, it wasn't even chicken fried as far as I could tell, no crispy coating at all, and the gravy was thin and bland, not a sausage in sight. The eggs benny were ok, eggs were a little overcooked, (they weren't poached, they were fried and crispy on the bottom side). With all the other great places in town we won't be going back.

Literally ordered a breakfast burrito from this place and they sent a tortilla. Would not recommend. Updated with receipt since owner is gas lighting

I was meeting with a contractor and he said he knew of a a place with the best steak sandwich to which he had been coming since the 80's. He had not been there for many years but looked promising as we were promptly taken to our table. Service was excellent. We got the food pretty fast and I had noticed they had a wood burning oven so not sure if the steaks are also cooked in there but just looked cool. Steak looked great when it arrived and was cooked properly , medium, as I like. It was flavorful, cooked nicely, and tender but the trimming was not right. Nice New York steak shall have some fat that if rendered well melts in your mouth but I took a bite that I chewed and chewed and could not break down or swallow. I had to spit that out in a napkin so that was not great. My fries were ok not great so they could improve on the quality of their meat and fries. Not the best steak sandwich or the worst one I have had. For the prize it was fine but I was underwhelmed as my expectations where to high coming in, that's my fault not theirs, I guess..... Service: 5 Food: 3 Ambiance: 4

12/26/24 Placed an order through Door Dash for the steak and eggs hash browns crispy eggs sunny side up English muffin grits and orange juice. Did not receive my grits and orange juice called the restaurant immediately@7:09 lady answered I addressed my concerns regarding my missing items her response was "they have 3/4 workers that's making food she's not sure who didn't include my missing items and to contact Door Dash so that I can get a refund" the presentation of the food was horrible my hash browns were far from crispy if anything soggy from the steak being thrown on top of them and salty...UGH!!!!!!

Came here for breakfast, the overall experience is great as always. The servers are like family very welcoming. The smell of food is all over like a home. Come try this place.

Does anyone have the sauce recipe for the sauce for the ember special lunch, bbq beef on a Persian roll; I could drink the stuff and have been trying to make af home... help?

Whoever said that its a packet has no clue what they are talking about ! They make the sauce fresh a few days out of the week with lots of vegetables, seasonings and bbq meats ! No packets of anything pre packeged. I know because I worked there for…

What kind of burgers do you serve?

Classic cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, patty melt, and a burger on a Persian roll but you have to ask for it special

Food came out quickly, generous portions, very well cooked & tasty, Ate in restaurant and food conveniently served in partitioned to-go containers, so we could easily take home leftovers. We've been to his smash burger spot in Richmond, and my parents tried his pop up back in the day over by the Crane way Pavilion (IYKYK). We were all impressed by the overall look and feel of this spot, from initial walk-in, to the food, and service. With country music playing, a clean and bright interior, and the sweet smells of juicy meat and sides waiting, we knew we entered the right place. We tried it all! Nachos for the table to start with deliciously diced brisket, beans, chives, cheese, BBQ sauce, and more, a loaded potato with pulled pork, meat plates including the ribs, sliced brisket, chicken, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was amazing and done right. You could tell there was love and care in each bite, which I feel for East Bay BBQ, is important. The portions were stellar, the quality was excellent, and we enjoyed sides of corn, mac and cheese, and cole slaw. There really isn't much else to it! We sat at a long table and there were rolls of paper towels attached to it which I wish we could get our "after" pic besides just the before pics because we def got saucy! I like the innovation of the loaded nachos and potato with proteins if you don't want a sandwich or a plate..great shareables, but also great portions for your own meal (or second meal too). They also do their smash burgers here, and had key lime mini pies for dessert. No beer/wine, but soft drinks. Plenty of parking adjacent and fair pricing for BBQ. We already can't wait to come back ~ I have my eye on those hot links! Thank you for bringing the vibes to Hercules.

I knew I was in the right place when the menu didn't have artisanal kale or a mushroom burger on it. I stopped in with my dad, who has consistently great things to say about CJ's. The customer service was excellent from the moment we walked through the front door. Friendly vibes all around- it seems like CJ's is a community spot. The patrons and staff knew each other on a first-name basis and were quick to include us in the conversation. The overall vibe is what made it a five-star experience for me, and it seemed to get busy shortly after we arrived. Our food was ready quickly, and it was delicious. It was a little over $100 for generous portions of ribs, chicken, hot and mild links, macaroni and cheese, beans, and bread. While we took our food to go, the restaurant was very clean, and I would have been happy to stay and eat there. I hope to try the peach cobbler in the future, but I was too full today to have room for it.

The market's weekly email…read moremessage explained two days before that openings can occur in the market due to family emergencies or vacations, or for other reasons. When that happens, the market will introduce its clientele to "a start-up vendor, or someone who's too small to commit to a weekly gig, or someone who wants to try out a cool new product." The market manager, Chris, cited Pickles n' Smoke as an example of the new surprises we can look forward to. When I showed up last Sunday at noon, there was a short line to order. Customers were curious about the new vendor; perhaps many had showed up expecting Fat Daddy's, which is the usual operation at this corner. During my short walk down the market to the Pickles tent, someone whispered in my ear that the brisket from PnS was delicious. As a result, I ordered the brisket sammi, a relatively small sweet roll piled high with brisket, slaw and sauce. The sandwich cost $19, which was somewhat more than I expected to pay; the price, however, did not strike me as outrageous. I paid in cash and was pleased that there was no tip bucket begging for the dollar bill that I received in change. The sandwich was quite excellent. All the flavors blended together very well, and I wasn't terribly bothered by the sweetness of the roll. If PnS comes back to the market, I'll try buying some barbecued meat in bulk or composing a "plate," which can include multiple meats and sides.
