Truly spectacular restaurant and cocktail lounge in Mountain View. I would recommend ordering a lot of small plates and trying some of their cocktails. Be sure to save room for dessert too. Food: The Spanish Charcuterie plate was amazing. The jamon iberico was the highlight of the entire meal. The beef tartare was my second favorite. Unique middle eastern based spices make this dish very memorable. The croquetas were delicious. Very spicy hot sauce on top gave it a nice kick and the pickled vegetables on the bottom were a nice balance. The calamari sausages were also great. They came with octopus that tasted amazing. The portion size is a bit smaller than the rest. The salmorejo reminded me of what I had in Andalusia. I haven't seen it in many restaurants around here so this was a real treat. The salad was good but not spectacular. Fresh and light on the dressing which is good. The Hamachi crudo was a miss for me. Too many strong flavors. Nice spot, easy parking and a nice feel to the restaurant. Service was excellent. Had to pay $12 for some cold bread. Really? Beef carpaccio, while the steak was treated well, I tasted absolutely no foie gras, and while there were slivers of what looked like truffle, the dish had no truffle flavor. a hint of truffle oil would have done wonders. The cream pea was bland and didn't add much to the dish except color. Octopus was well executed but could have been a little (temp) hotter. Seemed as if it had been sitting out for a while before being delivered. And boy, did this dish have a lot of oil! The Dorado...fish was cooked nicely although the skin could have been a bit more crispy. The bulgar...for me... was not my cup of tea. If you like spices such as turmeric and sumac and other sour tasting spices, then you might like it. For me, not. And the super sour labneh seemed out of place with the fish. Finished up with a basque cheesecake. Kinda boring. A cold, fairly stiff cheese cake with some fruit. Reminded me of a New York cheesecake without the crust. read more

This place is NOT CHEAP, being a fancy hotel in the middle of Google buildings, but as a cocktail enthusiast I was surprised at how good their drinks were. Really hard to find in the Silicon Valley (ish area). I had the Orange Creamsicle Gin Fizz and it was amazing. A cocktail named Orange Creamsicle is usually a sweet mess of a drink. But this one was delicate, and used real orange and vanilla. I love a Ramos Gin Fizz, and you never see it on much of any menus because it's a pain in the ass to make. The other standout was the Mandarin Kumquat Cognac Old-Fashioned (real name was something more creative). Spirit-forward, but not an overly-boozy flavor. We also had a meal, and, again, not cheap, but everything we had was very good. I had the pork shank for some reason, I'm not usually a pork person, and it was prepared very well, with some interesting acidic sauce to cut the fat and add complexity, but still getting the natural pork flavor. We got some Serrano Ham as an appetizer, and we got more than I really wanted to eat (even half). The olives were warm and good, but that was a little disappointingly small. We ordered two small plates, a sandwich, and an entree for two people and it was plenty of food! Drinks were strong and well made. This would be a good place to lounge and chill or for a cute date night. Highlights of the meal: - Calamari & Poblano Country Sausage (5/5): sausage wrapped in calamari with grilled octopus, really unique and flavorful - Veal Sweetbreads (4/5): first time trying sweetbreads and it was definitely interesting - the combination of dates and nuts makes it a complex dish - Alentejo (4/5): basically a pork and clam stew with pickled veggie. Never disappoints. First highlight are the bartenders who recognize you and recall your drinks. They may not know my name, but definitely know my face and drink - "Old Fashioned?" "Yes, please." These Bartenders are simply top notch. It's a show watching them craft and share their cocktail knowledge. The food is awesome. Wagyu Burger is my go to. I've tried a few dishes. Oyster Rockefeller. 3 Oysters, I'm not even an oyster person, but wow. 5 stars. They use a high end Spanish Ham, Iberico. 5 stars. 28 Day Dry Aged Ribeye with the Horseradish creme friache. 5 stars. Sherry Braised Pork Shank. 5 stars. Prices are high but it makes sense for the quality ingredients. The food is Americana with a Spanish inspiration. Simply great food and service. Now are they amazing scallops? *slowly shaking head in solemn disappointment* Honestly give it a 6.5/10. The scallops were cooked well. But the sauce, complexity, and the overall taste of the dish was just OK. So, 3x 6.5/10 well-cooked scallops for $32. -------------- BLISTERED SHISHITO PEPPERS -------------- Spice level: 8/10. The Emerald Hour just opened in the new hotel near Google. They have an indoor / outdoor bar setup on the first floor near the pool area. It's feels clean and modern and is certainly a nice place to hang out. The vibe reminds me a bit of the former Lure + Till in Palo Alto (sigh I was so sad when they closed). I didn't get a chance to try any of the food since I only had time for one drink. Snap pea on the rock: I once had an amazing snap pea cocktail at EMP in NY, so I was looking for something similar. This one was gin based, very clean tasting with a hint of freshness from the snap pea. Service was super friendly and professional. Wow! The Jimbo's Sour is the most creative cocktail I've ever had. I'd give it 6 stars :) The small plates are good. My husband and I ate the country bread, truffle almonds, and halibut. If you're going for the drinks (which you should, they're delightful) get the country bread and almonds. They're good snackers and will keep you in a good place longer. The service is excellent. Cool atmosphere, nice service, great cocktails, and extremely disappointing food. The menu is designed to be incomprehensible and the dishes are designed to be inedible. We ordered 3 appetizers and were so underwhelmed that we did not bother to order a main course (incorrectly called an "entrée" like many restaurants). 1. Pinchos de Boqueron con Piquillo (eggplant, baguette, anchovies) - why Spanish name only? Could not find any trace of eggplant and was told there is a thin layer of paste in the bread. It was tasteless. 2. Schmitz Ranch Lamb Meatballs - were no better than store-bought ones. Meh! 3. Croquetas de Pollo e Manchego - these were not bad - and props to the server for having recommended these in the first place. I only understood later that he may have implied "don't bother with the other stuff". But this dish wasn't able to move us enough in the direction of favorability. What a lucky discovery! I just happened to search local venues and discovered the newly opened Emerald Hour. No misnomer here, this place is a gem nestled between the cinema, amphitheater, and Google suite of offices. The restaurant has tasteful contemporary decor, with fire pits and tiki torches and overlooks a lap pool. The menu mixes bistro and Spanish influence. I ordered the Mt Tam sandwich, which is basically a glorified grilled cheese, with inch-thick seeded slices and a side of sun dried tomato tapenade. In addition to the delicious meal, I received five star service door-to-door. I was greeted the moment I walked in, and had a great chat with Katy who made sure all my questions were answered and that my meal was as delightful as I expected it to be. A stunning new haute cuisine bar and restaurant is here, and it is only a matter of time before it is filled with both serious foodies and the elite of Silicon Valley. So I decided to come before the imminent time that I would be competing for a table with Larry/Sergey (yes, it is only a walking distance from the Google HQ). Known for its cocktails, the cocktail and beverage menu is a stunner for sure. Don't expect generic here. Expect fresh, unique ingredients that create eclectic yet sophisticated drinks that you will likely want more than one of. For the record, I already decided which ones I want next time (coffee martini and snap pea on the rock). Now, the food menu might look humble to the average Yelp or OpenTable browser. However, behind a description as simple as "local fruits and vegetables" as in the case of Escalivada, could be an artisanal stunner of an appetizer including pickled cherries, fresh juicy plums, tomatoes, peppers, corn, and the most delicious and mildly spicy sauce. Just check my photos if you want to see just how pretty it is. The veal sweetbreads were great as well, and the blistered shishito peppers presented us with our new favorite way of having them (accompanied by a delicious tomato sauce). For our entries, the Mt Tam and fig melt was as one other reviewer described indeed the best melt in the Peninsula/South Bay. And the Alentejo was a stunner with so much flavor (those clams! That broth! Those tender, juicy cabbage and vegetables! And of course, those perfectly cooked pork cheeks that melt gently in your mouth and surround you with flavor. So yes, this place is great. Too many places in Mountain View focus too much on aesthetics and serve the same old, tired, repetitive entries. Emerald Hour stuns with its creativity, novelty, and the lingering satisfaction that the drinks and meal will leave you with. The service was so great as well, with our waiter being very friendly and attentive- our water glasses were always filled and every detail being thought of. I will be back and I plan to win any competitions for a table in a future no matter what googlers I'm up against :) That said, I booked this place again for 2 weeks from now so looking forward to trying all the great things I didn't get to this time. Very cool looking little spot. Atmosphere is very nice. The staff was very nice and attentive. My wife got the Paloma and was very pleased with how it tasted. For food, we ordered the pollo deep fried balls (don't remember the fancy name, haha) and they were really delicious. My big complaint would be that the menu is confusing and doesn't really explain what each dish is. I don't mind the high price fine dining experience but if I am hungry, I would go somewhere else. read more
