I've been a long-time customer of The Fat Fish, and I've experienced some lows in the quality of the food over the years, but the quality always ramps back up, and has been consistently excellent, and is my go-to spot for fried fish. I only get the Pollock because it is the best tasting fish, and it's been delicious and consistent over the last few years....even during Covid. Adequate. If you are in the neighborhood and really craving fried fish, The Fat Fish is adequate. The batter, while not offensive in anyway, was not interesting. I found it relatively tasteless and forgettable. Service was very slow. Seemed like a lot of people were waiting with arms folded for their take-out. The slaw was boring - too sweet. I heard one customer spend at least a few minutes trying to figure out what to order,...contemplating the various specials and what would be best deal for her family. The french fries were good the coleslaw was good the tartar sauce is good The fish was not greasy I think it is air baked with a really nice crust. Parts of the fish when I bit into it tasted fishy. My boyfriend and I came here two days ago and we ordered fish (alaskan Pollock) and prawn meal and the prawn and chicken meal. I ordered a strawberry mango smoothie and he ordered a Oreo shake. Overall the food was very mid. The drinks were the best part of the meal. The shrimp was just OK. The fish tasted very rubbery and old. My boyfriend said the chicken was OK but we've had better at the MB liquor store down the street. Everything just lacked flavor, even the fries. The inside of the shop is very cute but the service is very slow. We literally waited over an hour and paid $57 for mid food and for that reason we will not be coming back. read more

Oh SO good! My husband and shared a Pollock and Prawn Combo, and we just inhaled it. The fish had a perfectly crisp texture, and the flavor shone through. The French fries were delicious. Pretty decent fried seafood. The prawns were quite excellent and the batter wasn't overpowering at all. The catfish was quite good and the meat was nice and light. I really like the way they fry it here since its not too heavy like some other places. The side of potato salad was okay, nothing special. This was my first and last visit. Very disappointed. I got skinny fish and skinny prawns fried to a crisp. Not worth $18.00 for 2 fish and 5 prawns. My husband got the fish and oysters. SO GOOD!!! The fish is very crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside! The cornmeal batter honestly makes it a million times better. Easily the best fish and chips I've ever had. Great little fish shack. Nice variety of options as long as you want it fried. Fried catfish, whiting, red snapper, oysters, prawns, and wings are available. I've had almost everything and have yet to be disappointed. They even do a good job on the fries. The price keeps creeping up, but it's still a decent value. Beneath an overly-thick breading was an almost jerky-like fish that tasted and smelled well past its prime. It's color - grey at best and a funk yellow-green-grey at worst - underscored this point. I thought, 'Fine, maybe this particular fillet is just freezer burned and one of the others is good.' Nope. Moved on to the wings. Far less than unremarkable, unfortunately. They championed the flavor of old cooking oil and not much else, but if you waited for the grease to clear the pallet, the chicken came through loud and clear: decidedly off. OK, maybe I can wash this down with the fries. Nope. Just cr*p Costco Fries, cooked without love and seasoned with absence. Speaking of bad taste, WTF is up with the generic JayCo hot sauce with no flavor and a syrupy texture? Fat Fish do you hate your food that much? That's a funny coincidence, because I do too!
