Found this cool little out of the way spot driving down the coast. Great food and service... best social distancing plan I've seen in a restaurant so far on this 1000+ mile trip. Best fried shrimp we've had in a long time. My son got a burger which he demolished. I was not thrilled with the seasoning of crab cakes but don't hold it against the chef as this is a personal issue. Waitress noticed I was not eating fast and offered to bring me something else. Within 5 mins I had a plate of steaming hot fried shrimp. Very pleasant outside covered seating area overlooking picturesque waterway. We will put this on our list of places to patron again. read more

As someone who has worked in food service for 15 years, and opened restaurants, as well as trained over 200 cooks, I don't know where to begin here. Upon walking in I'm seeing minor violation after another, maybe they had just gotten hit with a hard lunch rush, idk. We order food at 2:08. Food finally arrived piece by piece at 2:50. It became apparent that they don't regularly change out their fryer oil as you could taste the fryer startup without filtration, the salad had watered down dressing, the tacos were not tacos they were a wrap. When the last entree came out, it was apparent that it was either forgotten on the flat top, microwaved, pre-cooked and held (for way too long), or never picked up from the window in a timely fashion. When I sent it back, it took several minutes of two people poking through it at the register, for someone else to bring it back and try to tell me it was cooked correctly and asked me if I knew what blackened meant (LOL) at which point I had to point out the rubberized surface of one side of the fish. They cooked another one, 15 minutes later it came out, of course, extra blackened this time (luckily I love spicy food) and it was thankfully not over cooked or overheld at that point. I'm not sure exactly what's going on in that place, but the health department needs to stop by there during meal periods and between much more often. I'm not giving one star, only as I understand how hard it is to keep good employees off season, and this could be the product of just one lazy cook. I've personally fired 8 cooks in Florida in the last two years who would try to serve food like that. read more

This place is authentic. The fish come right from the boats in the same complex. The shrimp were amazingly fresh and tasty. The staff was friendly. Views over the water were beautiful. Definitely worth the out of the way drive. read more

We were pleasantly surprised at this find. Saw their bill board on I95 and decided to take a break. Fresh caught red snapper was amazing and the peach cobbler the best I've ever had. View of the water is amazing but the best part was the employees genuine and friendly like going home. read more

Best I can say is they had good hush puppies. Beyond that, the food was mediocre, at best, and the service, nonexistent. Maybe we hit it at a bad time, 6:15pm, maybe they were too crowded (four of us and maybe six other guests), maybe they were short handed although we all saw two girls not doing anything, I don't know. It has great potential and the views are fantastic! I do know we won't be back nor will we recommend it to others. Suggest Gordon Ramsey do a segment at this place to turn it around. read more

You cannot beat the food or the view at The Fish Dock! So many restaurants on the Georgia coast serve imported, poor quality seafood. This is never the case at the The Fish Dock. Their menu has an excellent variety of items, making it possible to eat as healthy or indulgently as you like. Previously I have eaten the clams, fried flounder, and plenty of shrimp. The food has always been absolutely delicious. My Caesar salad topped with blackened shrimp yesterday was absolutely wonderful. If you are looking for cheap, poor quality, imported seafood, this isn't the place for you! However if you value fresh, local, high-quality seafood, The Fish Dock is an amazing find. Came out of our way to have lunch today. Requested seating on lower level in order to see the water. The windows were full of live flies. Mentioned to our waitress about the flies; received an acknowledgement that they were bad. We were never offered silverware nor napkins for our hands; brought when requested. Food was decent, especially the fries, both the sweet potato and twisted white potato. Required to kill eight flies to keep them off our food; Cost 35.00 for fish sandwich and two fish tacos with fries seemed a little high. read more

I've never left a buffet hungry before... That is until I went to Pelican Point. We stayed on Sapelo island this weekend and wanted some fresh seafood on the water before heading home. I just searched for food nearby and this glorious mistake popped up into my life. I knew from the musty smell when I walked in that I was going to have a bad experience but my significant other was too hungry to care. He paid a whopping $70 for us both to eat here (which is normally what we would spend on a week's worth of groceries!). I started with a salad and they only had 4 dressings, none of which looked the least bit healthy. I took one bite of my salad and couldn't even finish it because the dressing was straight up raunchy. So I moved onto the seafood. I gathered up a plate of the grilled fish, some fried shark and some deviled crab thing. I sat down to eat it and I literally lost my appetite entirely. At this point my boyfriend is looking like he wants to kill me after he just dropped all that money and I couldn't even touch the food. So, I go back and get the crab legs. The first few I had were satisfying but after you eat a lot of them the seasoning becomes too much and you just can't consume anymore. I had to use the restroom after I ate and I almost threw it all up right there in the bathroom after I saw how disgusting it was. The bathroom was nauseating to say the least. In fact, it was so gross that I wouldn't even poop there if I had to. It's sad because the staff is nice but they seriously need new management/owner. read more

This place really is an amazing, beyond belief joint. just waiting for some food network show to show up and screw it up for everyone. Driving there, the GPS lost where we were several times, through a bunch of different residential areas- houses, and trailers and the such. Anyway, going into the restaurant, the line reminded me of a buffet in Reno. Cool mix of rural Georgia folks in here. You don't see people wearing overalls out in California- not that there is anything wrong with that. They had the biggest selection of seafood I had ever seen. Man, they had so many shrimp. And crab legs. I couldn't eat til like 5 pm the next day. I didn't even touch the meat they had. Man, what a great place. I am just pissed off I only came here once. read more

While I do think this restaurant could use some additional renovations, it is a favorite of mine and my friends. We visit about twice a month during the summer so I can say I have an honest review of the place. If you crave seafood this is where you will find it and the freshest of seafood too! Anything from crab legs to crawfish, shrimp, shark, oysters, clams and mussels. Everything is brought in locally right on the Pelican Point dock! We always go for the buffet (it is pricier but worth the money you pay) but you can order from the menu if you'd like. I don't care to try icecream from their icecream freezer because that does look a bit sketchy to me and the scoop holder needs to be completely replaced. But the crab legs are my favorite and the best I have had around the coastal area. Love the view of the marsh from the windows and the laid back atmosphere! read more

Came around 6:20pm and the restaurant was more or less empty. Didn't receive our food until around 8. We felt like warning the people coming in as we were waiting about how bad the service was. It looked as though there were only two chefs in the kitchen, and I think our waitress didn't exist in the same reality as the rest of us. The food was nice when it did eventually come out, but it felt like it should've been served with gold flake garnish after the wait we had to endure. Eat here with caution. Nice find in an out of the way, backroads area next to several shrimping boats and seafood docks. Our waitress, Shantier, was very friendly and helpful. She described the local catch of trigger fish perfectly and my husband was not disappointed. Very tasty and blackened just right. The shrimp salad salad was delicious! Lots of shrimp and not loaded down with mayo or filler. If you read other reviews keep in mind that some folks don't understand what soft shell crab is. We will look forward to coming back. We enjoy finding non-corporate restaurants with locally sourced fresh food. read more

First time going and will NOT be returning. I ordered a bucket of steamed oysters. The first 5 I had were nothing but mud!!! No oyster to be seen!! I tell the waitress and she comes back and says there is nothing they can do that's how they come! I have ate oysters at many of restaurants and never have I had mud in my oysters! I had to pay the full price of $20! The waitress never apologized or ask to bring some new oysters. They are way over priced for the quality of food. I see why they had a score of 87! read more

I started my experience here as a return customer, I had eaten here years ago and found it to be a nice place. Come with me and il recount my journey into the abyss. As I entered the front door I was immediately assailed by hand-written signs on printer paper reading "no re-entry due to high volume of guest" and "no waitress allowed" tacked to every surface. My trepidation mounted, it had become clear to me that there was no return to this place. I made my way to the cashier, where I counted five cameras in separate locations, all pointed at the cash register. The poor woman, toiling in an Orwellian state of surveillance, timidly took my cash and I was ushered to my table by a waitress. The waitress, whom I did not know long enough to get a name, brought us drinks and promptly disappeared into the door to the kitchen, never to be seen again. I had come expecting a seafood buffet, and wandered aimlessly among the platters of spare ribs, barbecue wings, and french fries seeking these elusive fish. My wanderings led me to a hole in the wall looking into a small room just big enough for a crab steamer, a hot plate. and Crab Guy. Crab Guy is an older black man, reminiscent of Curtis Lowe of Lynyrd skynyrd fame. I approached Crab Guy's cubby hole slowly, Asking for the promised seafood. "YU WONT CRAB?!" he yelled. I managed a nod "HABOUT PRY RIB?" I nodded again. "GRAB YE STEK NIFE" I reached into the dirty steel cup and selected a knife. I was indebted to this man, this lonely denizen of the meat closet, had provided me with a weapon and provisions to aid me in my time of need. I said farewell to my sweaty savior and ventured back to find my table, giving the yawning maw of the kitchen door a wide berth, as it had yet to regurgitate my unfortunate waitress. The remainder of my time there was a pleasant purgatory, and after checking for my belongings (knowing that re-entry to retrieve them would surely be met with burning oil or the stake) I traveled home. Little did I know what personal, shameful hell was yet to come. I made it to my home just in time for the cramps to begin, horrible, wracking pain deep in my bowels as if my body was screaming in a tortured chant "WHAT HATH YOU WROUGHT UPON ME?". I sequestered myself within my bathroom, where over the next four hours I reached depths of depravity and torment deeper than any I had experienced in my short life. Afterwards I felt as Dante, having traveled through the gates of the netherworld and back again. I still think of Crab Guy, my black Sisyphus, forced to serve an unending horde of hungry mouths, emptying a steamer of crabs onto their plates, only to have it filled again. New management has ruined this place. It opened back up this week from renovations. It has lost the very thing that has brought its notoriety, the buffet. It still tries to employ the Pelican Point brand which I find insulting. A very poor attempt at the very food served by places such as Joe's Crab Shack. I visited this place often but hadn't been in about 5 years & expected so much more than what I found. Maybe that was where things went wrong, b/c I expected too much. We visited on a Sunday for lunch & maybe that too was where we went wrong. Over an hour drive I had to potty as soon as we arrived & found the bathroom to be nasty. Each toilet was fitly, the cleanest one I could find had skid marks (poop down & around the inside of the rim. There was only stall doors, no bathroom door. No sweetener packets on our table or the one closets to us. Food was okay but not worth the money. Hate having to pay before we eat b/c when you pay with a card you have to tip before you even know how the service was. Not keeping a drink refilled is not good service. Waitress was sweet but it didn't make up for the lack of refills. Seemed a little shaky when we drove up & should have been an indication to turn around & go back to the other place we knew was good just a little ways back down the road. Maybe I watch too much Food Network & Restaurant Impossible to know this place can use some help & could do better. read more

It had been about 20 years since we had been. It was $32 each. There were a total of 8 people including us. They would bring out about 20 fried shrimp at a time. We had to constantly wait the crab legs were good they had over cooked dry prime rib fish scallops. And the rest was vegetables. They don't have to worry about us going back. I had been seeing the signs for this restaurant on I 95 for awhile but never stopped because I chose instead to get home and typically am alone. I travel to Brunswick from the Edisto River area occasionally transporting dogs to a rescue for our shelter. Yesterday I chose to stop and am so glad I did. This restaurant is about 5-7 miles off the interstate on the Sapelo River. The outside is rustic and interesting. The inside was lovely but almost empty except for two female wait staff. (2 PM) I chose the shrimp taco and a cup of crab stew. The crab stew was delicious--creamy with lots of crab. The shrimp tacos were excellent with crispy taco shells, obviously fresh shrimp with cabbage and a tasty sauce on top. It came with a side of black beans witch I expected to be just OK but I finished those too. I wish I had taken a picture for you but I dived right in instead! I thought the price reasonable and will definitely be back. Wish I'd had time to explore the area a little but maybe next time. read more

My wife & I went ot the restaurant Staurday 29JAN11. The prices were extremely high considering the services rendered. The Crab clusters were overcooked and mealy, the boiled shrimp were overcooked and the overall atmosphere was decidedly inappetizing. The facilities were far below standard, bathrooms with no hot water and no paper towels and a generally unclean appearance. We have been in restaurants throughout North Americe, including Canada and Europe, rarely have we been this displeased. I will make a point of recommending our friends and associates not patronize this travesty of a restaurant. read more

Well I tried, tried and tried again! In 2008, 2009 & 2010!! The food has been cold, dried out and the waitress are NOT THAT bust to assist. The last time we went in was July 2010 and it was not crowded, I agree the crablegs were the best thing besides the Sweet Tea, when you could find someone to fill your glass. They either need to revamp, the owners need to come in more often, just because business is slow with only a hand full of tables filled, you CAN NOT keep the same crab cakes, casserole dish or pasta dish out from hours ago! Was visiting family in Georgia and went to Pelican Point. The scenery is really creepy like in a horror movie. The food was really worth the money compared to some seafood places where I live. The waitress was friendly and often checked on us. The peel and eat shrimp was perfectly seasoned! The prime rib cooked to my liking and all other dishes were good. My husband had crab legs and he really enjoyed them too much! If I'm ever in Brunswick, I'm definitely going back. read more

I am from GA and I would be embarrassed to recommend this place to anyone. First, the bathroom was dark and I had to sit on a toilet seat that was cracked and covered with duct tape. Second, there was only 4 tables in the place being served at this time, I had to wait 10 minutes to obtain a cocktail. Third, the crab stew was horrible, it was like paste and any Georgian would be ashamed to serve anyone this cra???. Fourth, the peach cobbler was hard as a rock and the vanilla ice-cream was solid with ice crystals. The banana pudding didn't have any bananas. Please don't even mention the horrible seafood. The only good seafood was the fried shrimp and oysters. Don't forget the prime rib. I asked for a bloody red rare piece and I rec'd an overly done piece of 1/8 inch meat. The gentleman couldn't cut in the middle for my piece instead served me a done piece of meat at the end of the prime rib roast. Again, I could complain about more stuff, but I think you get my point for $25 a person and if you got the crab legs it was $32. read more
