We liked this place a lot. We stopped by on our way back from seeing Waimea Canyon. We wanted local food and some poke. The parking lot was packed and it was hard to turn into the driveway from the other side so I just turned into a street past it and made my way back. There was a long line of customers inside as well but the place and food displays were clean. There is a make what you want poke bowl option where you pick bases, ingredients and add-ons. There is also a big display case of all kinds of poke and dried seafood as well. There is plate lunch items for order on the menu board behind the counter. I went with the Hawaiian plate ($10.95) because I wanted lau lau. This order comes with your choice pork with chicken lau lau or oven baked kalua... lomi salmon, chicken long rice and a scoop of white rice. This plate lunch was good and it satisfied my lau lau craving. The lau lau was good but it wasnt the best I've had. There were some parts inside that were drier than others so it was a little inconsistent. The lomi salmon was good but there just wasnt enough salmon pieces mixed in. It was more tomato and onions with some few small salmon pieces about. The chicken long rice was good and just how I like it. It had different vegetables than usual but it was tasty and the noodles were perfect. We also got 1/2 pound of each kine poke: spicy ahi, sesame tako and ahi limu. The spicy tuna was good and the big chunks of ahi were delicious with some spice to it. The tako was good with sesame flavor and I could eat that all day. The ahi limu which is usually one of my favorite was a bit of a let down. The limu was real thin and dry looking. I was expecting better. Overall, food was good. It satisfied cravings. There were just some things that could have been better. Service was quick, lines were long and they did their best to keep it moving. We felt a little rushed as it was prime weekend lunch hour but our first time there. We kind of didnt know what or how to order at first. A bubbly, talkative shuttle driver recommended this particular poke spot to me. Always go with the local recommendations, right? Not always the case here! It was not the best nor was it the freshest, but perhaps it was because I had gone towards the tail end of the day. The pricing also was not ideal as a small with one scoop of poke was $13.99. Adding toppings brings up the total potentially a few half cents more. They do not limit you on the toppings, per say, as they are self serve and they charge by weight, if I remember correctly. I was surprised at the number of toppings they make available to you. Overall, I did not entirely relish this bowl as much as I did others. The poke had a weird texture and was chopped haphazardly. I had the Lomi Lomi salmon as a "topping" which really was just chopped pickled tomatoes and onions. Perhaps I am glad to have entertained a visit near closing as their parking lot was quite tricky getting in and out of. Had their been more patrons coming in and out, I'm not sure my rental would have survived the trip unscathed. read more

Shockingly bad customer service. I went here twice. First time was fine - the staff weren't friendly but the food was good so no worries. I got 2 scoops of poke. It was oversalted but clearly the fish was fresh and tasted good overall. We went back a few days later and I ordered their 3 scoop option. Lady puts in 3 reasonable sized scoops, but then keeps weighing the bowl and taking more and more out until the third scoop is nearly completely gone. On the 3rd round of her taking poke back out I say "I'm sorry what are you doing?" and she says "it can't be more than a pound." Apparently they follow a rule where the entire bowl can't be more than 1lb and they pile in rice to try and skimp on giving you actual poke. I point out I ordered the 3 scoops and that one of them is pretty much gone at this point. She again says "but it can't be more than a pound." I point out I just ordered 3 scoops of poke and if the the weight is such an issue they could just take some of the mountain of rice out. She looks confused and just goes back a 4th time to take even poke more out. At this point I stop her and say "Look if you're going to do that again you can just put it all back and I'll just go. This is silly." She asks me not to go and to wait for the manager. I wanted to just leave but figured she asked me to wait so I would. Dude comes down just looking for a fight. He came in hot and started yelling at me about the cost of the fish and such. I thought he'd calm down but he didn't. I pointed out I hadn't actually asked to speak with him and was happy to just leave. He looked confused for a second and yelled at me to get out. My wife and I did so. Honestly we were kind of shocked by the whole experience. I feel for them if the cost of ingredients is going up, but if the cost if fish has become so prohibitively high... maybe just raise your prices accordingly. They are good following Covid hygienic protocol here despite it being super crowded and popular. Sadly their poke had good flavors but the fish wasn't fresh. We love poke and have tried 6 places for poke so far on Kauai and the poke here was the worst because it was fishy not-fresh tasting. Too bad because the flavors were good.
