Wow. The food here is incredibly good. The crab cake BLT was amazing! Everything just had so much flavor and I can tell they put a lot of effort into all of the food they make. More like 3 1/2 but they were very welcoming and friendly. We came for lunch and by the time we left every table was full. It's a tiny place, but they seem to be keepIng up so far. There's one gal at the register who also delivers the food; one cook; and the owner (manager?) who helps out at the other register and even busding tables. I got their fish tacos. The fried fish is cod and there were 3 to the order. I took one taco home. They came in soft flour tortillas with cabbage and shredded carrots with pico de Gallo.. there was supposed to be a lime cilantro sauce. I guess it was on the bottom... but I added some tartar sauce on top for flavor. I liked the fish. You had your choice of sides and I chose their cajun rice. I asked what was in it to make sure it wasn't too spicy. Not only wasn't it spicy, it was just bland. I'd skip this side. My husband got their fish and chips. He doesn't like a thick batter. Theirs is flour based. I liked it but he didn't. He added tartar, cocktail sauce, and malt vinegar to add pizzazz. The chips (I tasted) were good as was the coleslaw. The neighboring table had an appetizer of conch fritters and said they were just okay. She liked her lobster bisque but said there weren't any pieces of lobster in it. They seemed to really liked their shrimp po boy sandwich, however. They should do well in the area. Especially for lunch and takeout. This is my first time trying The Fish Joint. We usually at work try to go to different places and today we chose this. We ordered online to pick up in store. Food was ready in 10 mins. We showed up walked in the door to a clean presentable little restaurant. We were greeted right away told them our name and they handed us our food. Me and another girl got the fish n chips, someone got crab cake platter, and a sandwich. The fish n chips on the menu stated we get hush puppies but none were provided. That was ok cause we were able to try them from the crab cake platter and I enjoyed them. My meal was fantastic the food was still hot by time I got back to work, the fish was crispy and flakey and tasted wonderful. I love the fries they provided they are cut differently and were so good!!! The coleslaw was good. Everyone else said their food was great as well. I ordered to go. Easy online ordering. The restaurant was not busy with diners when i went to pick it up. I ordered seafood trifecta fried, grill mahi and kids chicken tenders. Trifecta waa fish, ahrimp and clams. It was ober cooked and came out burnt. Clans strips were burnt as you can see in picture. Chicken tenders were burnt. Fish was chewy and dry. Just a quick update. I can't rave like I did last time. The prices have gone up, not surprisingly. Unfortunately, the quality has gone down as well. My meal was just ok. If and when I go back, I will stick with the fried shrimp. This portion of my combo meal was spectacular. Big crispy and delicious shrimp (3 pieces). The hush puppies were great! One of my mahi pieces was "fishy" instead of meaty and mild. The other was nice, but definitely two distinct flavors from the two pieces of Mahi. I tried to swap out the Mahi for Grouper but that was $12 extra. The scallops (2 pieces) were over cooked and rubbery. The grits were clumpy. I wish I ordered extra hush puppies as one of my sides. They do have plenty of different sauces, hot sauce, and vinegar to set your meal off right. The place is still good, but didn't give me a "you're crazy if you don't go here" feeling. You can even see the quality difference just by looking at the old and new pictures. Hope they get their quality control back up. I'll go for the tie breaker visit soon. read more

The cod fish was delicious and the way they make fries is like fat potato chips. I love the coleslaw, not super mayonnaise just perfect. Morgan (the cashier) took time explaining the options on the Mahi, I chose blackened with fresh cooked broccoli & carrots. I finally made it! I have been dying to try this place for over a year with no excuse because I live 5 minutes away. But the past is the past! I love a good Mahi taco that's not fried in some kind of batter and this place has it! I was surprised at the size of the tacos with almost a full fillet of fish in it! The delicious homemade chips were also amazing and totally unexpected for just a homemade potato chip. We had several things there including Mahi Mahi Tacos, fish & chips platter, snapper platter, and chicken tenders. There was no taste and the snapper came with BBQ sauce that is being pushed as jerk. Not really sure if that is laziness or just bad combo. Employees are very friendly so that is the reason for the two stars. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about the food they are serving. I'm not going to drone on in this review as everything was superb! The only suggestion I have is if they put a couple lime pieces with the ceviche (my better half likes her ceviche with a little more tang to it). That is it. Found this place quite by accident as our fish go-place in the area was closed for vacation. It's a small joint, order at the counter type. Service was comparable to an order at the table place. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They came to the table to check on us a couple of times. Food was surprisingly good. My wife Diana had her favorite fish and chips. We live around the corner so this is always our go to place for takeout. You can also dine in. You order at the counter and then everything else is brought to you. It is consistent good quality and service. We have had just about everything on their menu. Our favorites are the tuna nachos, salmon summer salad, shrimp tacos, and the fish and chips is always a good go to meal. They have daily specials that are a great value. We most recently ordered the full tray seafood boil. It was delicious our only complaint was that we only received 3 clusters of crab. For the amount we spent on it, we expected more. read more

My friend and I went to the restaurant before the Panthers 6th Stanley Cup game hoping it would bring good luck to the Panthers later that night. Unfortunately it didn't. Our experience at the Fish Joint was interesting. It was surprisingly crowded for a Friday at 5PM. Only a few tables were empty. I realized you chose your own table after ordering at the counter. I expected this to be a self service restaurant with tables. This was further confirmed by the do it yourself coke machine. You were given glasses at the time of your order at the counter. After my friend and I ordered, I was given the opportunity to add a tip (20%, 18%, 15%, Other). Given that this was not a full service restaurant I wanted to add a 12% tip. This was for merely bringing the food to our table once it was prepared and for clearing and cleaning the table after we had finished and had already left the restaurant. Unfortunately, try as I might, I was unable to select the OTHER tip amount. I was automatically charged for a tip I did not wish to include for a self service restaurant. Most similar self service restaurants in which I pay upon entry do NOT include a tip! BEWARE! Let's turn to the great part. The food I had and that my friend chose were both scrumptious. The food is worth returning to the Fish Joint to eat. However with alternative restaurants available that do not take advantage of their customers, I will unlikely be returning soon. As for the decor, its fish (sea) connection is weak at best with some sad looking very used surfboards and boogie boards attached to the ceiling and walls. The tables and chairs are uncomfortable and not meant for you to stay long and enjoy talking with companions. The Fish Joint is a restaurant I would order from online but would not relish dining in ever again. read more
