Pumpkin, pecan, and apple pies for Thanksgiving :)
    Annalise B.

I flew into Irvine the evening before Thanksgiving and needed 3 pies to bring to my family's gathering the next day. I googled bakeries in the area and The Flaky Apple Pie Co came up; however, the date range for online ordering did not allow a next day order (understandably) so I messaged them through their website feeling unhopeful someone would get back to me the day before Thanksgiving. To my delight, Brooke texted me and offered a workaround to their early closing hours. She set aside the 3 pies I wanted - pecan, apple, and pumpkin - with a video containing instructions for pick up from their location after hours. She allowed me to Venmo her for the pies and they were delicious. Everyone loved them! Felt so thankful she was willing to help me out and ensure my family and I got the pies I promised to bring :)

Just made the Crumb Top Triple Berry Apple. Video instructions plus the instruction in box make it truly fool proof. The pie is exceptional. Fruit filling is perfect balance between sweet and a touch of tart. Crumble top is perfectly crunchy and just the right amount of sweet. Pie shell on bottom is cooked to perfection, not doughy and undercooked as is often the case with other pies. Have the pumpkin and the pecan in my freezer. Can't wait to make those.

*****Pie Nation!***** I pledge allegiance to pie and to all pie flavors of America. One nation, under pie, indivisible, and pie for all. If all the world had a slice of pie, there would be world peace. I am sure all have forgotten how heavenly it is to have the warm sensual smell of pie baking in the oven. People spend $20 on lame scented candles that cannot even be eaten. Try shoving a Brooke crafted pie in the oven instead! Brooke, the Pie Chef, has the perfect model of how a business should be run. She is personable and takes time to explain her product and personally hands you the goods. She crafts the pies and you do the baking. The kids went ballistic and screamed and cheered all the way to pick them up. They chanted "Pie! Pie! Pie..." All the way to Clinton Street. ~The Pies- Chicken Pot and Triple Berry-5 Stars! The savory Chicken Pot Pie and its rich-in-flavor brown gravy base easily tops Yelp's five Star List. Riddled with flavors, this warm savory pie is the cure for anything that ales you. The Triple Berry triple threat pie is truly a "Stairway to Heaven!" It has a bouquet of scents and refreshing flavor. The pie crust binds the flavors with a common base. Bring peace to your life and the world... Eat Pie!

Wow!!! Stumbled upon this place and just devoured a fresh strawberry pie in minutes! Generous portion, fresh fluffy whipped cream and perfect crust. I can't wait to try more flavors!

Brooke's pies are legit the best pies I have ever had! It is so hard to find a good pie in California. No shade on the chain restaurants but they just don't give you the "made from scratch" taste and goodness. These pies you can keep them in the freezer and when ready just bake them and indulge in the most perfectly flaky pie loaded with filling. Brooke's pies made my Thanksgiving perfect and will be a part of my holidays from now on. This is why I love small businesses; the quality and care of products and customer service makes you feel good about spending your money

I love the Flaky Apple pies. Their pies use natural, real, & fresh ingredients. I love how they're not too sweet and bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients. I've heard some complaint that their pies are a little runny, but it's because they don't use too much starch or sugar as thickening agents. If you can be patient enough to wait for the pie to set after it comes out of the oven, no problem. Their pies give the convenience of 'ready to bake' with the delicious scrumptious flavorful lovingly crafted heavenly homemade pies. We also call them lucky pies. Maybe it's the love that went into the pies. Anyway, every time we wish for a good luck (job interview, kids' SAT/ACT, college application, etc), we bake their pies and eat them. One time, I baked their pecan pie for a last minute dinner invitation. It was a huge hit! Even though I told them it was from the Flaky Apple Pie, Co, everyone was still impressed with my 'baking skill!' Lol. I try to keep at least 2 pies in my freezer for a lazy day or a busy night. Right now, I have the chicken pot pie, the pecan pie, and the pumpkin pie. Now that I'm writing about their pies, I'm going to have to bake them this week and order more to refill my freezer!

Do you make Lemon Meringue pie?

Currently, we do not, but we are hoping to add it to our menu in the future. We do however, make a lemon raspberry cream pie — with lemon (which is the same lemon inside as a lemon meringue) with fresh raspberries, and a whip cream topping, from…

    How sweet are the pies?

If you’re looking something not too sweet, then I would choose a pastry top pie (aka a double crust) . The crumb top is sweeter than the crust on a pastry top. Hope that helps!

I got the combo, which consists of 4 churros, a hot chocolate and dipping sauce. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to choose the type of hot chocolate but he didn't ask. He also didn't ask what type of dipping sauce I wanted. There weren't any customers either, so it's not like they were busy. The churros were made fresh and tasted great except there were some pieces that tasted gummy/still raw. It's crispy and the sugar isn't too sweet. The hot chocolate was pretty good but very sweet. It is also scorching hot. I burnt my mouth twice trying to drink it. The sauce - I wasn't handed or asked what type of sauce I wanted. I had to ask for the sauce, which I was redirected to the ordering counter where there was a stack. Would have been nice if they had just given it to me or asked what I wanted. There's no labels or signs at all and I blindly chose what I assumed to be the cajeta- caramel but it didn't taste like caramel. At first I thought it was expired due to the sour taste, but after tasting it again a few times, it tasted like apple sauce? I'm not sure what it was but it was interesting with the churros.

Sadly, the jasmine tea cheesecake was one of the worst desserts we've had. It tasted so unpleasant that we ended up throwing away what you see in the photo because we simply couldn't take another bite. The checkout experience was also a little unusual. The cashier told us the credit card machine wasn't working, so the only payment options were cash or sending a Zelle payment directly to the owner. There was a small handwritten sticky note with an individual's name and phone number for the Zelle payment, which felt a bit odd. To be fair, there wasn't a large selection available when we visited, so it's possible they have other pastries or desserts that are much better than what we tried. However, based on our experience, the item we purchased was disappointing, and the $12 definitely didn't feel well spent. On the positive side, the décor and overall aesthetic were lovely and were probably the bakery's strongest feature. But as the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover... and you can't judge a bakery by its ambience either.

I usually prefer yeast doughnuts over cake doughnuts, but these doughnuts were not dry or heavy at all. We waited outside by the pick-up window after ordering. Service was fast for the doughnut and my coffee, but they seemed to forget about my husband's cold brew, so I had to ask about it after a few minutes of waiting. Not a big deal, just was surprised it took so long when it was such an easy order! We both enjoyed the buttery/salty doughnut, and my coffee was delightful! However, my husband said the cold brew was just okay and it was packed with ice to the point you couldn't stick the straw in the lid. Overall, our first experience at this location was good, and we'll definitely be back to try more of Sidecar's delicious doughnuts! Might pass on the cold brew though!

First bite, I tried the milk side on its own, and I loved how light it was. Not overly sweet. Then I tried the matcha by itself. It tasted earthy and had that matcha flavor. When I combined the swirl together , the matcha definitely took the spotlight. It kind of overpowered the milk swirl but I didn't mind it because I'm a matcha lover. It still balanced out nicely.
