Great Dinner at the Fly Trap! Yelp has been steering me towards this place for some time and I finally got the chance to try! Arrived around 6:45pm and sat right at the bar. I'm forever rolling solo and the bar is my favorite place in a restaurant. This spot is so cute and kitschy inside. Kitschy, but cozy and quaint. Loved all the decor and relaxed vibe. To start, the bartender gave me a sip of a 2019 Rioja. So good, I had to immediately get a glass. For food, I initially got the Mixed Greens salad. Oh my! I know i've reached peak adulthood since I can really appreciate a delicious salad like this one. Spring mix with golden raisins, feta, and perfectly sliced red onion. So delicious! I could have happily eaten two of these, it was just that simple and yummy. I also had the brussel sprouts which were great as well. Perfectly broiled with bacon and in a yummy honey vinaigrette. This could have easily been shared with two people. Such a healthy portion. To finish off my meal, I had probably one of the best Mai Tai's Ive had in a while! It was super tasty! Totally loved it! Great time over at The Fly Trap! I can totally see myself here again very soon!

We walked in around 7pm for dinner with a group of four and were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was pretty busy. The service was great from the start. The staff were very personable and joked around with us throughout the meal, which made the experience even more enjoyable. They were also fairly quick when bringing out our food. For appetizers, we ordered the fried calamari, roasted garlic hummus, arancini, and fried Brussels sprouts. The arancini normally comes with three pieces, but since there were four of us, they kindly added an extra one, which was a nice touch. All of the appetizers were perfect for sharing and honestly the highlight of the meal. Everything was flavorful and we almost finished it all, with just a little bit of the Brussels sprouts left. The reason for the four-star rating is the "Bomb Ass Burger." It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite live up to the name. It tasted like a pretty standard burger and the patty could have used a bit more seasoning to bring out the flavor. Overall, it's a great spot to grab drinks and share some really solid appetizers. I'd definitely come back and try a different entrée next time.

Easy online reservations with indoor and outdoor seating, unique decorations and good location. Food was just alright to us. The baked goat cheese was the best. Burger was typical. Rigatoni was veryyyy watery. Drinks were great but took a long time to come out and service was decent!

My friend threw a surprise bday dinner for me here. I would recommend making reservations. We came on a Monday at 6-630p and it was already getting packed. There were 7 of us. The staff was really nice, the atmosphere was lovely, you can hold a conversation without yelling, & the food was delicious! I had the risotto and it was a 5 out of 5! Portions were just right. Not too small or too much. I highly recommend this place!

Solid spot for great drinks and food. Loved every dish we ordered especially the appetizers. Seating is available indoors and outdoors. The ambiance serves as a great spot for dinners with friends and family. Service was attentive as well. In particular, I loved the mushroom and shrimp risotto I ordered. Came out fresh and hot. Shrimp was delicious and the tanginess of the risotto was awesome. Drinks were also solid--especially for the price. Apparently happy hour is served here ALL DAY on Saturdays. I'd definitely want to check that out.

Came here after work on a Wednesday and it was very busy! Very lively and dimly lit. Generally seems like a very popular spot and good option for a post work dinner or happy hour. Good amount of vegetarian options too. Service was attentive. I ordered the bomb ass burger with truffle fries on the side, which was absolute fire. Those fries must've been fried in so much oil but I honestly don't think I've ever had such good fries before. So crispy on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside. It also came with ketchup and aioli, which I always appreciate because I love sauce. Very full after that meal. Would come back!

Smoke and Mirrors Cocktail.

Cool place, a great blend of vibe, ambiance and just solid drinks and food. I started out with the "smoke and mirror" cocktail, a nice sweet-tart blend that went down smooth. Debated for a while and just went with the ribeye plate with asparagus and scallopped potatoes. Steak was perfectly cooked, not oversized and well seasoned. Grabbed a glass of really nice rioja to go with it. Ate at the bar, bartender was friendly and attentive but not overly so. Watched Detroit beat Cleveland in OT 122-119 so entertainment was built in. Will totally come back when I am in the area again - it's right around the corner from the Clancy hotel, too!

We spent our New Year's Eve dinner here. We ended up eating outside despite the rain as those were the only tables available, and how well did it work out! The ambiance was still amazing, I loved how it was decorated. Our heirloom tomatoes were delicious. We both enjoyed the meals we had, roasted chicken and their steak. My boyfriend loved the carrots my chicken came with. He thinks the steak was fine for the price. The service was a bit rough, but we were given a heads up. Our drinks were clearly forgotten, several times as people who got there after us got their drinks first, so we had to ask for it 3 times. Other than that, the food looked very appealing and the ambiance was wonderful and our waitress was very nice.

Happy hour 3-5 Monday to Friday. It's $2 off a list of items, including house wine and cocktails. The wallpaper and drapes have been here since the 1970's, and the restaurant itself longer than that by a lot. The building is an old hotel, and is a historical landmark. Take a look around at the details; there are so many accents of decor. We sat at the bar and service is friendly and helpful. Good came quickly. We got a hot today, and house red. Good times, good food

Grilled Salmon- a bit overcooked

Had dinner at the Fly Trap on a week night. First off, the place was not busy when we got there and we had reservations but they seated us on the high top table in a corner where one side was very tight to access. Drinks were good. And the appetizers came out quickly- really liked the Brussels sprouts but the rest were meh. My entree was the salmon and tbh a bit overcooked. Server was nice and efficient but the overall experience was nothing memorable.

Good, calm and beautiful spot. We ordered rigatoni, roasted chicken and a passion fruit margarita. The drink was actually really good, nicely balanced with the alcohol and flavor. Roasted chicken was just okay, but the rigatoni was pretty bad. I am not sure if the food was premade or fresh, but the rigatoni was far from good pasta. I am giving a higher rating mostly for the place itself and the friendly service.

Cocktail

They were friendly at first, and the food was just okay, but I didn't like that they brought us the check without warning or asking--right after the first cocktail, as if they were rushing us out. They're in a hurry to get rid of you; I definitely won't be back.

This place is sooo adorable and romantic. I loved the outdoor patio, it was very cute. The food and drinks were great. We ordered the house red, vampire cocktail, Brussels sprouts, goat cheese and the salmon. Everything paired perfectly together and everything melted in your mouth. I couldn't get enough! For dessert we got the bread pudding and I died--it was heavenly. Every dish is very elevated and done extremely well. This is definitely a great date night spot for sure.

Ask the Community - The Fly Trap

Can they accommodate a party of 20?

The place isn't that large. Hopefully the owner responds or go on open table. I would be surprised if they could do 20 for one table unless you are renting out half the place

Is there a printed happy hour menu available to view? I could not find one on the website.

I don't think they have one online, you'll likely have to try your luck inside.

Is this good place for drinkers? I live nearby and I am trying to find my go-to bar.

Yes there are quite a few regulars and the bartenders know their shit

Luckily, my friend had already been to Iron Horse Cocktails, and suggested we go there instead. Walking down the alleyway it is located in was a nice getaway from the otherwise hectic union square atmosphere. Walking in was also a neat experience that felt like we were stepping out of the city into a tiny pub. We also really liked the atmosphere inside and the cozy upper floor that had an interesting mix of old paintings and woodwork, creating an eclectic feel. I got the We've Got the Beet cocktail with mezcal, beet reduction, ginger, fresh citrus, thyme and firewater bitters. I love mezcal's smoky flavors and was drawn to the combination of ginger, citrus and mezcal flavors in the drink. The cocktail was very good and had a nice smokiness from the mezcal, along with the kick from the ginger and zest from the citrus, creating a refreshing and tasty drink. My friend got the About Thyme, with gin, blackberry liquor, black pepper thyme syrup and fresh citrus. We both really liked his drink as well, which had an interesting kick from the black pepper thyme syrup that offset the gin and blackberry liquor nicely. While we only had time to grab a drink each, we were both very happy with the drinks and would definitely come back the next time we're in the area.

It falls for me into the category of one of those spots who did some things for Covid and has continued those practices because they seemed to work. You go into a line and order entrees at the first station; but it's not clear which ones and some are precooked and some aren't.
