I eat at this particular Flying Biscuit on two occasions; when I have friends in town or when I'm hungover. It's a perfect option for both. The vibe is cool and all the servers are interesting and have their own style. Everyone in friendly and the Boss (Owner? Head Chef? Manager?) usually comes by to make sure everything is good. Food was good as usual, but service unfriendly. When I walked in a waitress failed to greet me and asked how many. I said one. She sat the menu on a table and walked off. She returned didn't greet me again and asked what I wanted. I gave her my order and she walked away. A male employee brought my food out and almost gave it to the wrong person. When I finished the waitress laid my check on the table and didn't asked how my food was. My bill was a little over $13. I put $15 on the check. She walked by, picked it up and again said nothing. I was planning on adding money to the change for her tip ,but she never brought me any change or even came back. Since she didn't have a name tag on, or provide me her name I can only describe her as the young black woman. I can recommend the food but not her. read more

THE LAST SUPPER! Actually, it was the last breakfast because I am really over The Flying Biscuit concept. This was my first time eating at this location but it actually mirrors the Johns Creek location with that broken down aesthetic, (unmatched plastic table covers, unmatched dinged-up chairs and an overall "I don't care" décor), that just is not working for me. When I walk into a restaurant for breakfast, the first thing I want to sense is clean. I am not talking about sliding in chairs and wiping off tables, I mean a deep clean including baseboards, rugs, windows and the floor. No one wants to eat in an unclean space. I don't tolerate that in my home so why would I actually pay to be in such an environment? Unacceptable!! First impressions mean everything! I only chose this restaurant this morning because it happens to be one of my daughter and son-in-law's favorite. They aren't as bothered by aesthetics as I am so they are fine eating here and I was willing to give it a chance. When I've visited the Flying Biscuit in the past, I have stuck with the southern omelet because I love vegetables in my omelets and I don't necessarily need meat. This time I wanted to eat something different but found the food very heavy! My ideal omelet is made with just one yolk, four whites and green veggies or mixed peppers as opposed to the three yolks in their omelets. My husband actually ordered the Piedmont omelet which was well seasoned and stuffed with bacon and sausage but not light and fluffy. When adding such heavy ingredients, they pair better with a light and fluffy shell. I don't care for their French toast because the best French toast starts with great bread, not sandwich bread. I find it bland and I do not care for the raspberry glaze AT ALL. French toast accompanies the Extravaganza breakfast which includes two eggs, grits, chicken sausage and turkey bacon. This is a lot of food and definitely something you will want to share. The Flying Biscuit is known for their biscuits, but I don't find them remarkable and I think that is because I just prefer a homemade whole wheat version. Once you have had a really good biscuit, you just don't forget it. My husband had his while visiting a church member in West Virginia and I made my own while residing in New York. These are very heavy and when served with their chicken pot pie, it is simply too much. They need to thin out the sauce, add some green veggies, and serve the mixture over half of a biscuit for a more balanced dish. Their grits are visually unappealing and look as if they are cooked in a pressure cooker overnight. They call them creamy but I call them mushy and I suspect that they add cream to them. They have the texture of overcooked farina and are just too white. Yes, color matters! My eggs need to be light yellow, my toast dark brown and my veggies bright green not camo green! Adding anything to grits other than butter, salt and pepper should be a criminal offense! Their breakfast potatoes are not the fresh breakfast potatoes that I prefer, they appear to be battered and deep fried. NO! I prefer a potato that is lightly sauteed with the skin on, with onion and standard seasonings only. Although I dabbled in the plates around me, my choice was the buttermilk pancake. It was nice but the syrup was too heavy. They need to find out who makes the sugar-free syrup for Waffle House and add that to their menu. They are currently using the Smucker's sugar-free option which I do not like so I settled for the regular. Also, I would love to see them add "soft" spreadable butter to the list of options. The unexpected star on the table happened to be the simple, unpretentious serving of apple butter. It tasted fresh and delicious and would pair very well with a thin piece of crisp toast. It is not really a good pairing with a biscuit because it just tends to get lost. Actually, it is literally too good for a biscuit. Overall, this is just not my scene because breakfast is just too important to me. I need the ideal experience that just sets the tone for my day and this was not it. ***Two and a half stars seems appropriate but since there are no half stars, I am awarding three stars because customer service was very good and even though I didn't care for the food in general, my guests were perfectly satisfied. read more

Came back to try it out again. Remember I liked it enough to try it again. Well this time was awful. We went on a Sunday for breakfast at 11 AM. They were busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. Our waiter greeted us but seemed rather impatient and had an attitude. Having been a waiter for many years, it's never acceptable to have a bad attitude with your guests. For me a bad attitude from the server breaks the deal regardless of how good the food is. We did however wait 45 minutes to still have no food. When we told the waiter how long we had been waiting he said "I know, we are busy" with a MAJOR attitude and a bugger sticking out of his nose!!! HELL NO!!!! They arrived at the time they said they would, they set everything up and the food was still really hot and absolutely delicious. We had to do nothing. Part of their set up they provided dishes, silverware, napkins, condiments and never did we imagine that they would set all the food up in chaffing dishes complete with sterno's to keep it warm. We were highly impressed. Such a great establishment. The manager Crystal was awesome in helping with our order. I could not say enough about them. The four of us had an array of eats: fried chicken, spicy greens and grilled Mac n Cheese w/ a biscuit and cranberry apple butter. Everything was outstanding. Spicy collard greens, another disclaimer: not all greens are as spicy in other locations... can you tell, I eat here very often. From Raliegh, NC to newest loc in Kennesaw, Ga the food is consistently good and so is the service. Each place has their own personality and vibe and I'm here for it all. My family now have a regular breakfast place when they visit from NYC. Which is where I'm from, where different foods are a plenty, and delicious!!! Needless to say, my mom and my mother-in-law are very picky eaters and never willing to try something new and they both loved it. I believe breakfast food for lunch is the Devils tool and advance method of entering pure hearts. I don't do it. Find it personally WRONG to have breakfast food at lunch time. But the Flying Biscuit.... well damn it, I couldn't help myself. My wife is a fan of it and by GAWD if Flying Biscuit does not live up to its name. I got an oatmeal pancake, a biscuit (OBVIOUS namedrop), some kinda apple cinnamon butter and ate half of my wife's pimento cheese and cheesy grits. The grits here are crazy good, more like fine mashed tators then gross grits. The cheese was HUGE and very unique, like with a smokey flavor I've not had with pimento cheese. And it works. I am so excited that the biscuit has come to the burbs! It was super busy right after church on Sunday, so I opted for an outside seat. Yes, I melted a bit, but it was worth not waiting. The service was friendly and fast. I ordered their basic breakfast that comes with a biscuit, two eggs, sausage and their yummy cheese grits. As in my first visit everything was great. I love the spiciness of the sausage and the creaminess of the grits. The biscuit is huge and flaky and the cranberry apple butter is soooo good. Up way too early for a Saturday, I didn't feel like cooking. Tired and probably smelling horrible from the night before, I shuffled my way to my car and figured that I would go wherever the mood struck. I hadn't been to the Flying Biscuit in a few weeks, so I swung in. Last time, I had my eggs benedict staple, but this time decided to try something different. The Smoked Salmon Scramble was awesome and yet the grits were even better. I'm not a grits fan, but these are ridiculously good. I'm sure that the small bowl I ate had 4,200 calories of tastiness in it, but it was totally worth the inevitable heart attack that I'm bound to have in the next few months anyway. As usual, I can't go anywhere without something strange occurring. As I was mid-meal, an Alpharetta cop entered the building. Keep in mind that I was the first customer of the day, and the place was empty. I heard the hostess tell the officer to sit anywhere, and where does she plop her cop ass? That's right. She sat right in front of me, staring at the mess in front of her. Just to make it clear, my relationship with Georgia police is not what one would call symbiotic, so I paid my tab, and tore off into the sunset. I normally go to the downtown location, but I decided to come to this location because of the gift certificate they sent in the mail and I live close by. The certificate is not clear what is considered a breakfast or lunch entree. I called in an order of shrimp and grits and a pancake. I gave the certificate to them and was told I couldn't use it because i didn't order an entree. I tried to tell them that it could be interpreted two ways, but went on and paid for it. Instead, an employee told me he works there so he knows in a impolite tone. Then he began tapping his finger on the paper as he read it as if I couldn't read. This was very rude! I give them three stars only because of the shrimp and grits. I will not be going back to this location, so the certificate will not be getting used. What a great breakfast place! I took my son there and we were pleasantly greeted and seated quickly. they were prompt with the drinks, and gave us more time to decided what to order. My son had the French toast, I had the piedmont omelette. Both were excellent. The French toast came with a sugary-creamy concoction that was really tasty. The omelette was fabulous as were the "creamy, dreamy grits". My son who doesn't like grits tried them and liked then too. I opted for the wheat biscuit, which to my surprise was very good. It came with a raspberry jam which was yummy. This is a real friendly place as well, you can tell they love their customers. After we placed our order one of the waitresses thought she recognized me from behind, and came up and started chatting. When she realized I was a different customer, we had a chuckle and we chatted for a minute anyway. I would definitely recommend if you are looking to have a nice casual breakfast. read more

Worst biscuit of them all. I went today for lunch (8/4) with 2 of my friends and it was busy but not packed. There were a few open tables. It took the waitress forever to come around to take our order. I had to make eye contact with her before she finally come over to take our order. We ordered a salad, an egg sandwich and some love cakes. So imagine my surprise when it took 45 minutes for our food to come out. I saw tables that came in after us- get their food, eat their food, pay for their food and leave- all before our food was even brought out to us. Our waitress, Danica, did not tell us why our food was late until it was already on our table--- 45 minutes later. She also explained that it was because they were short a cook- but that does not explain why everyone got their food before us. AND on top of that- our drinks were not refilled. Serious fail. Great place, great food! I have dined inside once and have ordered take out plenty of times in route to work. Is it bad if I have this restaurant's number in my cell:) The grits here are so good! I get them all the time. I typically order the veggie scramble, which is good too. I also recommend you try the Oven-Roasted "Moon Dusted" Rosemary Potatoes. I get those on occasion right along with a wheat biscuit. Sometimes I just crave CARBS! Customer service is average and environment is typical as any other breakfast restaurant. I've been to the original location and the Midtown location of Flying Biscuit before it was a franchise, and I absolutely loved it. I know some people aren't fans of the biscuits, but I absolutely love them. That said, I was very excited that a location opened up just a few minutes from my home. I'd heard not so great things about FB since it became a franchise, but the allure of the tall, fluffy biscuits was too great. I got the Hollywood Omelette (egg whites, spinach, mushroom, and white cheddar) and a side of potatoes. The omelette was absolutely delicious. It was very flavorful and I loved the creaminess that the cheese provided. The potatoes were also delicious. My dining companion got the Southern Scramble, which has turkey bacon, collards, onions, and cheddar. His meal came with grits, which he said were wonderful (it was his first time ever trying grits). Both of our dishes came with biscuits and apple butter. Yum. The biscuits are a touch sweet (but definitely not cloying), and the apple butter adds a spicy/sweet flavor that goes well with the tender biscuit. While service was definitely friendly and prompt (never rushed, our water glasses were always filled), the suburban locale of this place left something to be desired. The atmosphere is definitely not the same as the original or even the locations in the city. The layout isn't very charming - the tables are set up more cafeteria-style.
