We were told when we ordered it would be an hour wait for the food. At almost 2 hours, we asked about our food. We asked what looked like the person in charge if he could check on our food. He told us to wait until he finished delivering a check. He never came back. We asked another guy (ponytail) if he would check on our food. He went into the kitchen and brought us back someone else's food. When we told him it wasn't ours, the couple behind us said it was theirs. He was going to give it to them. Mind you this is in the middle of a pandemic. My husband mentioned that it was against health code for it to be on our table and then to turn around and give it to someone else. We asked him again what was taking so long. He told us they ran out of flour and had to go get some. We asked him why we were not told about them running out rather than make us wait an additional hour. When he got mad, we left. We will never come back to this establishment again and we will make sure that all of our friends know not to go there either. And there is a group of us that comes to Orange Beach frequently. read more

Visited for the first time with my family. Phenomenal Bloody Mary (maybe one of the best in 50 mile radius) and the raw oysters as recommended by our waiter/bartender. Believe his name is Chase. Really courteous and professional. The oysters were way fresher than the ones we had in New Orleans. Gonna be back to take my mom and dad as well and get some more oysters. We stopped in to get some casual Food on the drive back from the beach. Our family was instructed to sit upstairs in the bar area since downstairs was full. It is a divey type pub type place with food. The reason for the 2 starts was food/drink quality The baked oysters were undercook.. the oyster was cooked around the edges and the middle was cold and slimey. We got the butter garlic type... the minced garlic was cooked and the best taste about the entire appetizer. We also ordered the shrimp po boy and buffalo shrimp basket. The food was so bland and tasteless. It was also room temperature. The kids chicken was the best of everyone's plate. Our bill ended up being quiet expensive for the amount and quality we received. So we decided to just go sit outside because that's what we wanted to do. Every single customer after us was asked their preference of seating AND told that there was a live band upstairs. When considering restaurants it's very important that everything in the facility be maintained. if you don't maintain your tables, chairs etc... in the front of the house... then one must assume you also don't do that behind the kitchen doors. As much as I would like to say the dining experience was good it was overshadowed by a table that moved more than the waves we experienced at the beach today and when asked for an alternative option the waitress did not attempt to offer actually was unable to even provide a butter knife to shove the napkins into the spaces because "the manager makes them count the silverware before they close‍" Seriously? The closest restaurant to our rented vacation house near Gulf Shores, Alabama was The Flying Harpoon 2. One day during our stay my family and I stopped here for lunch after a bike ride. We arrived right at their 11 A.M. opening time. In fact, a friendly employee had to unlock the front door to let us in. He took the time to show us around the space and even took us out back to see the alligator and turtles that call the back pond home. This employee split his time between taking care of all the patrons at the bar and surrounding dining area, as well as shucking fresh oysters. Though he was busy, he continued to entertain with great stories and facts on the surrounding area. Top notch service for sure! Conecuh Smoked Sausage is a local hickory smoked specialty. The Flying Harpoon prepares the sausage as a po' boy sandwich on New Orléans Leidenheimer French bread, with peppers, onions, and spicy Creole mustard ($7.75). The tasty sausage was mostly mild but the mustard helped kick it up a notch. The peppers and onions were piled high and the bread was perfect. My wife had the shrimp po' boy with corn flour breaded and fried local gulf shrimp, lettuce, and tomato ($9.75). Though I didn't try this one, it got great reviews and comes highly recommended. We also shared an order of hand cut potato chips ($3.50) that were perfectly cooked and reminded me of chips we would make at home as a kid. If you like Caesar salad they have the best dressing I have ever had, they make their own. It is outstanding. The poon sliders are excellent as well as their poon buffalo sauce, made in house. We returned after 2 years. This place was my favorite on the island. Well now I'm looking for my new favorite. The fly appetizer is a bit over bearing. We sat inside right next to kitchen and our table was covered in flys the whole meal. The waitress was not knowledgeable on what happy hour meant but she did go ask. And you save $1 on local beers wine or wells. The best part of our meal was the crab/crawfish cakes. They were pretty good and are the only reason they got more than one star review from me. I ordered the 1/2 lb "spicy" steamed shrimp and portion size was good. You might want to share a side with someone. My wife got 1/2 lb fried shrimp and an order of the chips. The basket of chips is plenty for 2. But the taste of both shrimp was very disappointing. I do not believe these were fresh shrimp. The spicy shrimp were only spicy if you want to eat the shells. Remove the shell and it tasted like a shrimp cocktail shrimp that had been warmed up. Very rubbery and shells were shockingly stubborn to remove. The fried shrimp were very meh. If you get the buffalo fried shrimp it is their meh shrimp tossed in buffalo sauce which I thought helped them a bit but wife didn't. Kids thought chicken strips were ok. They charge you an extra 3.5% that says if you pay by cash they remove that. That is BS they don't remove it. I even asked point blank did you account for I'm paying in cash. Yes I took it off. Then you count the change and it was for the higher amount. Ok well sorry that 3.5% was now a portion of your tip. I still tipped beyond that but based on this experience I probably shouldn't have. And I'm sad to say what was a shining star 2 years ago on our vacation was very disappointing this year. When we come back to the area in future we will skip this one. Picked this place off Yelp when in town recently. Made two trips here during our stay. First trip was a late lunch on a weekday. It's offseason so the downstairs part was open and there was only one other customer. We had oysters on the half shell and a sausage poboy. Oysters were crisp clean and outstanding. Poboy was very good. Good selection of beers and a full bar. Friendly and capable bartender. Came back a few nights later for a late dinner on a Sat. night. That night the downstairs was closed and the upstairs had a classic rock cover band playing. Bartender from the first day was on the porch downstairs playing drinking games with her friends. Asked for menus (at 5:30 on Friday night) and was immediately told that the kitchen was closed because there were two 8 top tables upstairs ordering food, and no new orders could be taken for 45 minutes. I was dumbfounded to hear this at this time of day with a large menu. Yet they continued to seat people at other tables, and told them as well of the delay in the kitchen, which some stayed and most left. I was looking forward to a good poboy made with Leidenheimmer poboy bread from NOLA, but we decided to leave after finishing our drinks 15 minutes later, after several others left with us, unserved. Hidden gem !! I have been coming to Gulf Shores for years and always saw the original in GS but never tried. There is now a second location on the main beach road in Orange Beach. I have tried it out two times this year and was not disappointed they have he best poboys east of NOLA for sure. And to top it off when she brought our oysters we asked for small plates and she told us it would take a while for them because she had to run downstairs and get them. I have worked my entire life in the restaurant business both as a server and as a manager. I've had some really bad service over the years but this girl makes the top 10 worst for sure. As a server, I'm a lot more patient than your average customer but this girl isn't acting like she is "in the weeds". She does not move with any urgency and acts like she has nothing to do and all day to do it. Couldn't even tell you her name because she never told us. Very disappointed. Super quick service & excellent food. The shrimp was excellent & so was the flounder. The flounder was a ginormous piece of fish so I added the fork to the photo for scale. We were here for work after the hurricane and went here on a Thursday so it was fairly quiet. The drinks were strong but well balanced so they were still good. The food was fresh. Its hard to get fried oysters that are not rubber. Fish was flakey and it came out the kitchen fast. Will definitely be back the next time I have to roll through. read more
