We've been twice. First time was a weekday late breakfast. Capacity was low and service was slow. kids had mickey pancakes which were good sized and tasted good and I ate a burger with a side salad- it was only OK. Nothing special. Kids meals are supposed to include a drink yet we were charged for them so we had to get the check fixed. Second visit was 11:30 on a Sunday. Had to wait more than 40 minutes but we're quoted 15-20. Strike one. We were ready to order when the waitress came over and then had to wait 25 minutes for drinks. Told the owner but that didn't help. Strike two. Finally she showed up- not even apologetic or offering a response for her tardiness. Meals were eggs Benedict, kids eggs, mickey pancakes, veggie omletee and migas. It was all good and definitely offered generous portions but the migas were tragic-No flavor, no chorizo. Don't bother. Again we were charged for our kids drinks. Strike three. When I paid I alerted the owner of our server's error and delays and he responded saying she's been sick- great! So praying we don't catch what she had..... They really need to get their act together. No wifi. Checks have been wrong both times. Staff are always slow- in line w reviews too Train your staff better-teach speed, awareness and politeness. Have a wster/coffee person circulating on busy days to deliver water and coffee (as needed) to every table and to for refills. The service was great, very good waitress. I ordered the chicken fried steak and, for the price, I expected it to be quite a bit larger. After eating some of the chicken fried steak and not really enjoying the flavor I decided I wasn't too bummed about the small size. The hash browns were a little undercooked. This is the best breakfast place to hit the area! The nicest thing I can say is that I can't wait to come back. Nice servers. My coffee cup was never empty. The crowd was plentiful which makes for a nice ambiance. We ordered, and the food was out in 10 minutes. They have a small kid's menu, but the food was plentiful. Lots of choices for adults. They have a coffee bar. I had the Santa Fe Skillet and my kid had the egg/has/sausage/toast plate. Downside: coffee was $2.89. I hate paying for half a box of k-cups for a cup of coffee and a refill. Well I love cafés but this was a terrible experience. The service was mediocre nothing special nor bad but the check out was quite memorable as the host was actually cheerful and welcoming. The food first the eggs was liquid based which for the golden egg I thought it would be shell maybe that the gimmick. The food was decent beside the eggs. Under the original ownership it was superb but since passing the torch onto new owners the quality has suffered tremendously. My husband and I always attended each and every weekend without fail. And now we have simply stopped attending altogether. It's a shame since there are few opportunities for al fresco dining and the location was only 15 minutes away from our home. I'll watch for other reviews and hopefully with the decrease in sales they will do something to improve their menu. Even our favorite servers were seeking employment elsewhere. This place is a regular spot for us. I have loved everything I have tried. Good coffee, good selections. I personally like the simplicity of the menu, it allows them to execute their options with excellence. Originally, my favorite was the candied pecans that you can add to your pancakes. They have won me over with their chicken and waffles. I MUST give them 5 stars because no one can do chicken and waffles like they can. The chicken is tender and the batter is thin and crispy. "Meh" about sums it up. Today was my first time there. I got the Monte Christo egg/meat/French toast combo. Scrambled eggs were barely warm and had a skin on them. Plus it wasn't close to being three eggs -- ordered an additional egg besides the usual two -- it looked like 1.5 eggs on my plate. The cinnamon French toast was thin -- not much to it and taste was nothing spectacular. Sausage patties were OK. Wife got hash browns with her meager (again) allotment of eggs and they were barely cooked ... should be called hash beiges, if that. Oh, and all of this cost almost $30 for two people's breakfasts. Way too much for this quality of food. I can not recommend this place and will not waste my time going back. There are too many other breakfast places in the area doing it right. read more

We have been going to the Golden Egg since it opened, of late several of our Porsche club friends have been going weekly. The food was worse today, and the service was not much better. How does this place have 3 stars? It took literally 15 mins of us just sitting there that we had to actually ask for someone to serve us. Then waited forever for our food that were either over cooked French toast or way undercooked hash browns or my burger that didn't come out until everyone else was almost done eating and was a crispy super well done patty with a bunch of French fry pieces. New breakfast and brunch spot in Lantana/Bartonville. There are some interesting items on the menu, in addition to the standard breakfast and lunch fare. We had the biscuit and gravy omelette, which is one of the items they are known for, according to their menu. The concept was cool, but the execution could have been better. The egg on the omelette was overdone, and the biscuits themselves were bland, but the gravy was flavorful. We also ordered the chicken fried steak. It came out last, after the rest of our table had finished eating. We'd normally wait, but since we had kids with us, we went ahead and let them eat while we waited for the rest of the order. It is hand-breaded at the restaurant, and it's a good size, and it's pretty tasty. The breading has a nice crust on it, and the meat was flavorful. For the kids we ordered waffles with eggs, bacon, and sausage. The waffles were nice and crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We asked for the eggs scrambled soft, and they were perfect. The sausage was a bit on the spicy side for the kids, but it was tasty. The food overall was good, but a little on the greasy side. Both the bacon and the hash browns tasted a bit like they were cooked in old grease. The service was friendly, but slow. Our waitress was extremely sweet, but probably overwhelmed. And the other servers weren't keen on helping us. We tried several times to flag down a server to refill our coffees, which had been empty for nearly ten minutes. We were largely ignored until we stopped a girl refilling water and asked for more coffee. I think once they get the kinks worked out the service will improve. We'd definitely go back. was so disappointed at this restaurant. The owner is absolutely extremely rude. I bit into a large piece of fat in a ham sandwich the Monte Cristo, and stated this to the waitress. She then brings out the owner. The owner argue with me for five minutes after touching my food, she thought I was going to pay for it they did not offer me anything or another sandwich got up in my face Told me I was going to pay and that they don't just let people taste test their food that they use regular ham not lunch meat and continue to touch my sandwich and wanted me to pay for it. I refuse to pay for it and she told me maybe I should find another restaurant to go to that would meet my needs. there was one thinly sliced piece of ham with a huge chunk of fat on it. The proportions of my daughters were extremely ridiculous. The chicken fried chicken was maybe the size of a kids palm will not be eating there again more so because of the rude service never once did the waitress come back and ask us if we wanted more drink!!!! read more

Honest review of golden egg. I come a could of Days a week. I will start with the positive. Great front of the house staff. Great service. The coffee has gotten weaker. The kitchen staff needs some training. The food that comes out is cafeteria-grade at best. The current kitchen staff does not know how to work a diner. The French toast and pancakes are under-done. Chicken apple sausage is not worth the up charge. This place has a great location and front of the house. The stuff coming out of The kitchen is 7/11 grade. You can do better. Worst dining experience I've had in years. Best part manager blamed us. If you enjoy paying to be treated like 20 head of cattle in a trailer made for 6 this is your place. The place is very expensive, with mediocre food, bad service , and small portions.
