I come here and order through DoorDash all the time. To the point where they know my order by heart. This particular time I ordered through DoorDash and called the restaurant to be sure my order comes correct as I had a problem with my order a few weeks back. My order comes completely wrong. Joseline told me when I come in I can get the same order on the house for the inconvenience. When I come in the next day, Joseline takes my order and ensures I will receive this meal for free. A few minutes pass and another staff member, Nancy comes over pressing the issue about me receiving funds on DoorDash and said to me who told you I would get a free meal.. not speaking to me in a tone as a customer but as if I'm some girl on the street. Then why are you coming to me pressing an issue that wasn't between you especially after a solution was solved. Joseline then comes back to me, nervously asking did I receive credit on DoorDash because they are asking me in the back. I checked and I did. She said she was going to charge me and I said ok, but it didn't sit right with me as this was not DoorDash fault. It was the restaurant and I called prior to guarantee my order was correct and it still came wrong. Now my partner goes to the bathroom, which you have to go through the kitchen to get to and he here's the 3 girls plus the cooks talking about me. A loyal paying customer. My partner and I are restaurateurs. Therefore, my partner had to speak to the ladies to let them know they are wrong to be negatively speaking on a customer that patronize this establishment. Now, a new waitress is on the floor taking care of us and I explained to her why it was wrong to not try to accommodate a customer from their wrong doing, as if DoorDash is making the food. My time and money was wasted due to this. The new waitress understood and apologized for The Grain Cafe and the end result decided to comp my regular grain order for next time. I appreciate her for taking the time to understand the issue and Joseline for trying but Nancy learn to respect the customers and stay out of business that doesn't concern you, when you are not a manager or an owner. This would have been a great brunch experience if it wasn't for Nancy inserting herself with a rude tone and attitude. The food was great as usual therefore I'm giving 2 stars. read more

They are still open during the stay at home order. Apparently, they get their cakes delivered by the Mid City location because that's where they have their bakery since it's a bigger location. The employee I spoke to over the telephone said that they don't know what kind of cake they're going deliver. They just receive the cakes. This weekend I ordered a slice each from the cakes that they have. The cakes they had this weekend were tres leches, maca, lemon, strawberry, green tea, coconut, and berries. The slices were nicely placed and panned out in a tray. The cakes were all perfectly moist and had a lot of flavor. I love their desserts. I'll be back again. One of the best vegan spots in Long Beach. I've eaten here quite a few times and usually what I get is good. The club sandwich is the best so far in my opinion. The "chicken" tacos and "chicken" wrap (we really gotta stop using animal meat terms in my opinion) are also really good. Not a fan of the mole burrito though . The staff is always super friendly, parking is street unless you want to be a rebel and park in one of the parking lots across the street, but I've never had a problem finding street parking. It's not a huge place so I wouldn't recommend large groups dining in. Not a very loud place usually and everything IS vegan here. I had to ask and make sure the first time I came here because of the wording haha. In my experience, vegan places are hit or miss. And usually, every place has a specialty that they excel at, like the tuna at Steamed in Long Beach was (is it really closed now?!) much better in my opinion, but at The Grain Cafe it's good overall which isn't something you come across regularly. read more

My boyfriend and I have been vegetarians for a little over a year now and have been loving Long Beach for all the different options we have! However, we've really been in search of some good vegan sandwiches if we don't just want to head to chipotle and get a rice bowl... and in comes.. The Grain Café. I am always super picky when it comes to protein substitutes, and I usually just opt for avocado or just purely no meant. Our friend had us try to the "Club Sandwich" at the grain café--vegan chicken, smoked tempeh bacon, lettuce, tomato, sourdough bread, garlic aioli. The vegan chicken is absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Though the sandwich to me resembles more for a classic BLT, I'm still in love! We'll definitely be swinging by several times this summer to grab some sandwiches to go to take to the beach. The Grain Café's website states they have "organic foods withought animal based products, no persravatives or fillers ever!" And I have to say, I am so impressed. The menu is suuuuper extensive, full of breakfast, lunch and dinner items from veggie omelets and unique crepes, to wraps, salads, pizza and even south of the border dishes! I don't think one can ever get bored with the options they have and I'm super excited to come here for any sort of craving I have. I'd also recommend the hot dogs and kale salad. Because of COVID-19 indoor dining isn't available, but there's a few seats on the patio in case you wanna sit out and enjoy the sun. We usually call in our order and it's ready in about fifteen minutes! I'd say with tax, your meal will probably be around the $15 dollar mark, and I'm happy to spend ever dollar on a lunch that makes me feel satisfied without any of the guilt. This is not my first time eating food from The Grain Café. Thus far, in my life, The Grain Café is one of the best eateries. The customer service is always on point and the food is always on point. The Club Sandwich tastes really good. The potatoes taste really good. The entire meal travels well (after about forty minutes via Postmates). The Grain Café has a REALLY good developing menu. The outdoor eating area is decent though around/at a corner (I'm not crazy about eating areas near traffic/public areas because of the possibility of unfavorable fumes). The indoor eating area (when available) is decent and far more favorable to me than their outdoor eating area. As of my last in person visit, they are following Covid restrictions. However, they informed me that the item I was ordering had just had a price increase from $13.95 to $19.95!! The person on the phone told me that their entire menu had massive price increases effective on Friday, 2/11/2022. Their menu pricing on their website does NOT reflect these changes, which is wildly misleading. I completely understand and respect that most restaurants and businesses are needing to raise prices due to COVID-19 caused supply chain issues; however, for the item I was going to order, this is a 43% price increase. This type of increase makes this restaurant unachievable for an entire customer base. Would love to come back here when the prices go back a more achievable price point. Looks like a burrito, but eats like a crepe...would have liked a little more color on the crepe itself, presented a bit wan and had an uncooked quality, despite the pesto aioli splattered on top...not the most artfully presented...it also ate a little mushy...but the faux chicken was good (diced) and the crepe was stuffed generously albeit with mostly finely-shredded carrots, which was a thing of fluffy beauty. But frankly, the flavors were predominantly carrot-y, good thing I love things carrot-y. You have a choice of mixed green salad or potatoes...I went with the salad which was pre-dressed. I appreciate a generous underdressed side salad, with cut cherry tomatoes. It was fine. I like more zip in my dressings, but sometimes quiet and subdued is nice too. Service is friendly, and our glass water carafe was refilled without asking. And when we weren't ready yet to order, our server cheerfully departed and allowed a perfect amount of time to pass before returning. And we were also approached about dessert. Two words -- ORDER DESSERT! I was happy to have a Vegan cake that was moist and flavorful without being sugary or bland. My husband and I dined at the grain Café for the first time today. The café is easy to find and there is plenty of street parking within walking distance. I ordered the grilled vegetable wrap and my husband ordered the red and green wet burrito. Both were absolutely amazing and far exceeded our expectations. The portions were big enough for two people to share... In the future we plan on sharing a meal so that we can try one of their delicious desserts. I mentioned that I noticed Molé on the menu and the waitress explained that it's their specialty as the owners are from the beautiful state of Oaxaca. She offered to bring me a sample which I was happy to accept. The molé was mine blowing! Almost brought me to tears as it was very similar to a molé my godmother made for me growing up. Since her passing I don't believe I've had anything remotely close to it until today. Look forward to coming back many many more times. read more
