This place doesn't miss! Hands down, the best waffles I've ever had and the eggs are always scrambled beautifully. I always order the Athens Scramble with a waffle on the side. The scramble is always seasoned to perfection. If I had to make one critique, it would be that the coffee options are pretty basic. The Great Egg in Denton went above and beyond our expectations. We wanted to eat somewhere local to the area and when we found this spot on Yelp in a shopping center, it kind of gave a chain restaurant kind of vibe. It wasn't too busy as we arrived an hour before closing and our host was so nice and saw we were tired from our walk in the rain and gave us a nice booth. Kate was quick, she got us our drinks and helped us make some good decisions on what to order cause the menu was really good...I mean there was so much we wanted to try. We were starving post a wedding last night so I wish I took i pics but we ate our food so fast! Get the strawberry and banana waffle, we also got the classic eggs Benedict, we didn't know it came with ham which we don't eat but Kate and the chef were so so nice about remaking it and it was so good! The hollandaise was just so flavorful and of course the poached egg broke just right, the great egg has to make a perfect poached egg! As Californians we asked for some avocado on it too which they so nicely accommodated for us. And of course we had to get a side of hash browns. We left nothing on our plates, it was so so good and the service matched up too! I come to this establishment almost on a weekly basis. Currently their holiday specials should be explored by the general public. As of 12/05/18, I have had only one of their winter specials but it was well worth it. I was promptly greeted at the door, which for this place, I have often seen a little difficult to perform by their staff because of their huge weekend popularity. It was nice to come in on a weekday and see how the staff acts while not under extreme duress. The environment was warm with faint holiday music playing throughout. After being seated, I saw their special menu, and immediately decided I was going to order from it. What I was going to order was a decision that could not be made with equivalent haste. There were three specials for meals: I believe a waffle special, a hash special, and the third currently slips my mind. Out of all three the Winter Hash stood out the most, so i proceeded to order the platter along with coffee. The wait was short to get food, as the morning Thursday crowd look to be more of regulars. I can hear the staff having chuckles with the regulars which brought a slight happiness to my heart. An establishment to take the time to know its consumer is admirable. But I digress. The winter has arrived. This plate of winter delight looked like a plate that could warm me through a harsh winter in a log cabin; greens poked out from underneath two over-easy eggs, completing the festivities. Two halves of an English muffin lay to the side completing the meal. I cut into the over easy egg letting the yolk smother the hash. I scoop up and take one bite and instantly I feel warm all over. The hollaindaise sauce was wonderful and the greens poking out created such a spectrum of flavoring combined with everything. We started off with cups of delicious hot cocoa and then I ordered the strawberry banana waffle breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon. My boyfriend got the Cambridge Skillet and it was super savory! The waffle was the fluffiest I had ever tried and the entire meal overall was superb. If you're looking for a lighter, more unique take on breakfast, you'll love this place. This is no Old West. I'll start off by admitting that I rarely enjoy eating breakfast/brunch at most traditional American breakfast joints. Typically the food is always too dense, and healthy/vegetarian options are limited. I didn't know much about The Egg & I, so I wrongfully assumed it was just like every other breakfast joint. Most dishes here are automatically served with dressed greens (simple side salad) or fruit. I'm the nutty person that loves having vegetables for breakfast, so I was pleasantly surprised by this. There are a decent handful of vegetarian options, but you can easily modify some of their other dishes to be vegetarian. When I went, they had a winter hash special available. I assumed they wouldn't let me switch out the sausage and bacon for a side of fruit, but they did it without any issues or up-charge. Even without the meats the dish was able to carry its own, which is rare in my experiences. I actually wish this winter hash was on their regular menu, because that sun-dried tomato hollandaise is delicious! Sorry for ever doubting you The Egg & I. The breakfast food is good, but nothing to write home about. Service took a while and we waited 10+ minutes before someone asked us for our drink order. The food came out in a reasonable time, but drink refills were few and far between. But the most important thing to do is to ask not to sit at a wobbly table. Seems a few of the tables are in need of repair, but management is not repairing or replacing the tables. The table we were sitting at was so loose you could spin the whole table top around. We Uber Eats breakfast here all the time! The food is always accurate and timely. I really appreciate that it also comes still hot - not typical for uber eats breakfasts. I've eaten here a few times and each time, I tell myself I should stop and write a review. However, the food is always so good putting down my fork is a sacrifice I cannot make. Each time I have come, my server has been amazing. They make sure we are taken care of and continue to offer great conversation. They are attentive, but not overbearing. First off, is it the Egg and I or the Great Egg? Two different signage. Do not order an omelette because they don't know how to fix one. They made a crepe with eggs and put in the middle cold uncooked ingredients. I ordered an omelette with spinach, tomatoes and ham. All were sitting on the inside of this egg disc. It was pitiful. The manager then comes over and starts to insult me stating I don't know how an omelette is actually cooked, am I even from Texas and I don't know what I'm talking about. We have lived in Denton for over 20 years. I have NEVER had an omelette made that way. Ever. Anywhere. We have been going here since they opened. We won't be back. Absolutely pathetic. read more

REALLY BAD SERVICE. On our first visit for lunch, my wife and I got our drinks and then sat for 10 minutes without a server ever coming to take our order. So, we got up and left. We decided to come back and give it a second chance. Again, we came for lunch. We were seated without a wait. Our server came after a few minutes to take our drink order. He brought them out and took our lunch order. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but both of our orders were wrong. The errors weren't huge, so we removed the items we had asked not to be included and ate our meal. The food was good, but our server didn't return until we were almost done. When he finally stopped by, we asked for a cup of ice for the tea. Instead of bringing it, I watched him go into the "meeting room" and sit down to hang out with the other servers. Eventually, I walked back there and asked him for the ice. Every server in the entire restaurant was sitting in there instead of helping customers. Overall, the experience was awful. Sad to see the bad reviews, because every time I've gone to The Egg and I I've had a great time! I got the Parisian benedict, because if it's on a croissant I'm gonna eat it. Get the ranch potatoes as a side, and get them LOADED! Sour cream, pork green chile, cheese. Also got a side of toast and a coke, and did that weird flappy excited hand thing because A) it's sourdough toast and B) they gave me an entire carafe of coke for MYSELF. As someone who is frequently grouchy on Saturday, a jug of caffeine is a gift from God. I've been coming to this lovely little place since I moved to Texas 4 years ago. I used to come every Friday but I moved to Lewisville and there is one slightly closer to me in Carrollton up there. Anyways, I was down here for a doctor appointment so I decided to stop by and have a bite to eat for old times sake. It was FANTASTIC. They set up the patio for me, I was greeted by Amber quickly and she was very personable. I ordered the Parisian Eggs Benedict and a side of grits with coffee. The coffee was piping hot, they carry natural sugar (as well as artificial sweeteners if you're so inclined), and the food was delicious! Amber was very attentive to my needs. Sunday last at about 100pm we went to the Egg and I for lunch. Admittedly this establishment was busy with significant wait times. The waiter was friendly but busy. The problem was when the food arrived. My waffle was not warm enough to melt the butter. My wife's Eggs Benedict was also cold. The biscuits with my daughters gravy were hard. It appeared (my opinion) that in order to meet the Sunday rush, the restaurant may have pre-prepared some popular dishes. Obviously our food sat for a sufficient duration to become cool. Our time between ordering and receiving our order was not enough time for our order to cool the amount that it did. I had the Colorado Jack and my husband had biscuits and sausage gravy and ranch style potatoes. The gravy is very thick and creamy. And so delicious. You can't stop eating it. But for me the potatoes have what seems to be Italian seasoning which doesn't go with Breakfast in my opinion but My husband loves them. The Colorado Jack is loaded with fresh bell peppers, fresh onion, the eggs are scrambled perfectly and its all topped with Jack cheese. Delicious. I went on a Saturday morning, January 27, 2018. I ordered the French Toast. I decided on crispy bacon and two over easy eggs, a little more fried. My French Toast was good, not very hot though. I asked for hot syrup and they brought me back the same syrup that was already on my table. I'm rating a 3 because the service was slow. It took a while to get refills and to be checked on. If the food would have been brought out right when it touched the plate I would have gave 4 stars. If I do decide to come here again I hope it's a better experience and I will try something new. read more
