First off, the food was great! I had the chicken chili momo, which was fantastic. I asked for chili sauce and they had a green and red chili sauce that complimented the dish nicely. Service was excellent. The server was very friendly and confirmed with me a few times that I indeed wanted very spicy momo! My only advice is if you crave super spicy food, be sure to stress that and also get the chili sauces. The samosa and garlic naan were nice, but the winner in my book was the momo. This was my first trip to The Gurkha Kitchen. I had the chicken tikka Masala, garlic naan and rice. The food was flavorful and portion was plenty to fill me up. The Chai tea was complimentary and I was also not charged for the rice. Those were nice touches that I found valuable. I am a fairly big eater, so the fact that I was full leads me to believe that most people could have split what I ate. The service was friendly and prompt. Eats: Khasi ko Sekuwa (18.99) country style BBQ goat. Marinated with many Himalayan herbs/spice -served with sliced carrots/cucumbers, red onions, cilantro, potato salad. Lightly battered, had nuanced flavors of spicy, tanginess, subtle sweetness. -accompanied by large serving of lightly fried pieces of rice, jalepeno slices, mucho peanuts, -comped nicely made chai. One of the best places for Nepali and Indian food. The thali's has that distinct aroma and taste of home cooked food back home, made me remember my Nani's cooking. Came here with my sister for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and the food was amazing. We started off with the chicken momo and samosas and they did not disappoint. Momos are the Nepalese version of soup dumplings and come either mild or spicy. We got the mild because my sister does not like spice. The momos were great! Light and flavorful with just enough kick and some added spicy oil on the side for some heat! The samosas were large and filled with peas and potatoes and came with a green chutney and tamarind dipping sauces. I got the lamb biryani and it was zippy with a nice kick to it. My sister got the chana masala and plain naan. The chana masala was too spicy for her so I got leftovers! Yum. There is free chai tea to drink and I also go a mango laasi which was VERY yogurt forward. I'm used to more mango, less yogurt so it was really sour. The restaurant is located in a shopping center so there is plenty of parking. Usually love this place, but it's declining for several reasons. Our standard order includes: chicken tandoori (boneless & boned); saag paneer; veggie rice; garlic naan; samosas; and other random apps. Delivery from any app will take about an hour. Recently, orders delivered have been missing items. Tonight they forgot the 2 orders of garlic naan but this isn't new to miss items. The veggie rice was so good bc it had lots of cauliflower, but sadly NO cauliflower in tonight's batch. The Saag paneer has less and less cheese each time. I know they're busy. I understand mistakes. When I called tonight, there was NO offer to make it right or credit, except telling me to reorder via 3rd party delivery and I got 1 extra naan (after waiting another 40 min & being told they'd add 3-4 extra naan orders). I didn't want a ton of naan, but don't promise something and then fail to deliver it. I would've appreciated a new app/item to try for the inconvenience or a credit to keep me ordering from them. I knew they're busy (delivery is always 1+ hour and late) and apparently they don't have enough staff for the demand, but now quality and accuracy are dipping down. Sad to see this. This was our favorite Indian restaurant and I hate to see them going under. I hope they get it together, but I'll be looking for replacements. read more

We started with the Buff Momo, steamed dumplings with a filling of spiced minced buffalo, served with a tangy sesame soup on the side. Next, the most typical Nepalese meal was the Thakali Thali, a metal platter with an assortment of dishes including raayo ko saag (bitter mustard greens), black lentil soup, aloo bodi tama (tangy soup of potato, bamboo, black-eyed peas), rice, yogurt, and achar (spiced potato and lentils). For my entree, I had the goat curry, made of tender bone-in chunks of goat in a dark onion curry. Everything on the plate was boldly spiced and delicious, and the thali even came with free refills on any item (except the goat curry). It's a part of a multi location chain with stores in Sunnyvale, Hayward and San Jose. The interior decor remains pretty much unchanged. The menu is mainly Indian with some Nepalese items like Momos. We ordered the following dishes: Thakali Thali Chicken 5 stars chicken curry, raayo ko saag, black lentil, vegetable rice and achar. Lamb biryani 5 stars one of the best biryani that I've had. Garlic naan 4 stars Vegetable momo 4 stars wrappers and fillings were just ok. Service was good, language communication is challenging. Plenty of parking in the large shopping center. read more

All nans were soaked in moisture when delivered in addition to being burned an inedible. Called the restaurant and the lady who answered the phone said the chef was not there and someone else made them and was courteous and apologetic for the experience. The owner said there is nothing he can do and suggested calling DoorDash for refund even after explaining that order was placed on their own website!!! Not going back there again. read more

Excellent choice for Indo-Nepali food in the TriValley. I came with a good friend who wanted to try "something different." We were seated right away, as the place was quite empty (it was around 11:30 am on a Tuesday). For starters, we ordered the Manchurian chicken, so she could get a taste of Indo-Chinese food, and regular chicken momos, so she could eat something Nepali and a bit less spicy. I also ordered us both mango lassis just in case the spice needed a little cool off. Both dishes were excellent, and to my surprise, the much spicier Manchurian chicken was enjoyed more, with very little mango lassi relief needed! Our entrée was goat curry (mild) with garlic naan. The naan was fresh off the griddle and the garlic coating was extremely generous. Now that I have a sense for my friends spice tolerance, I wish I had ordered the goat curry medium spicy (or even spicy hot), but it was flavorful nevertheless. We polished off all the food, except a couple of momos that went home with her in a to-go box. For dessert, we split a Gulab jamun, which was warm and delish! Chickpeas were slightly tender in this vegan dish. 5/5 Garlic naan is a must here! Fresh and hot! You can smell the garlic and not overcooked. Perfect to pair with your main courses. 5/5 their chai is probably the best chai ive had. You can put as much sugar you want in it or have it as is. Explosive flavors of spices! The staff were very courteous and helped us order. #Pani poori -- this was decent. Crispy hollow wafer balls stuffed with spices potato medley that you drown in green sauce. The sauce is mildly spicy but was a little too salty for my taste. #Chicken momo -- this was delicious. Juicy and moist in the inside with decent sized filling. The orange sauce it comes with compliments the dish well. This was gone before any of our other dishes came out! #Buff chili -- this was delicious! The buffalo was spiced and flavored well. It's a spicy dish so beware! #Butter chicken -- I loved how thick the sauce was. Definitely on the sweeter side than other restaurants I've had, but I prefer it this way. All in all a fantastic find.
