We recently had a reservation for outside dining, hoping to have a relaxing evening with friends. Unfortunately, it was not! The music was SO LOUD, it was impossible to have a conversation. Also, the selection was very inappropriate. Several requests were made to lower the volume. They were ignored and met with hostility from the young owner. Such a hidden gem! Loved trying this place out! Sit outside on the patio if you have the chance - great atmosphere.

I have been to 1/2 Nelson 6 times so far and have yet to be disappointed. The food is excellent! Most recently I enjoyed the lobster risotto! 5 out of 5! Nice but small selection of craft beers. Excellent m mixed drinks and a nice selection of wine too. If you haven't had an opportunity to visit, you must put it on your list of nice restaurants in the Quad Cities to visit! Was there Saturday for an early family dinner. Was seated right away and had a very good experience throughout our time at Half Nelson. Our waiter was outstanding and the food was very good. We started out with appetizers. The fried tomatoes were so good. Definitely recommend them. I had salmon which was very tender. Other food was the pork chop, lobster mixed with noodle and chicken. I love fried chicken. And the pecan fried chicken dish was off my charts great with the mash, peas and sauce complimenting the whole dish. You could commingle everything on the plate and it tastes perfectly balanced. Best $20 dish I've had. read more

Wow. I went here with some coworkers simply because it was within walking distance of the Blackhawk Hotel. We were surprised with top notch service and a menu that featured delicious and interesting combinations. The filet was butter knife tender. The garlic salad was the perfect amount of homemade dressing. The half size was more than enough. The atmosphere was relaxed, with low music and a lovely dining room. I would visit again. read more

I waited for two weeks to order a beyond burger since their hours have changed due to COVID. They were not busy, and they completely messed the order, I did not discover this until I returned home. We loved this place! We had a party of 13 over Bix weekend and had an issue with our reservation at Barrel House. Luckily walked down the street and found Half Nelson, and they were able to seat us right away. Such a treat to have a restaurant in Davenport with VERY good food, all fresh ingredients and complex flavors. Not a huge menu but a good variety and what they do, they do well. The staff was beyond attentive! Even with this big of a group, we never waited for a drink refill or plates to be cleared.... so rare. We couldn't have been happier. It's a shame because the resturaunt has so much potential. The atmosphere is great the service is good. BUT. The experimental quality of the food needs to be worked. Alot. Food was under seasoned or straight up was missing ingredients. If a dish says it has wasabi it should taste like wasabi. Rice crispies are not rice cakes and don't go with fish! Many of the dishes looked and sounded like whoever wrote the menu did not try any of the dishes. Again the food needs alot of work. Good bar and cocktails an good service though. read more

I highly recommend this restaurant. I visited this restaurant with family, while visiting from out of town. The restaurant is easy to find and in the great historic downtown of Davenport. Parking was easy, even on a weekend evening. The decor is amazing and lighting perfect. I loved the vibe. There was both young and old, families and dates. The bar area is very cool and would be fun for just a drink and apps. My family ordered an array from the menu and I was thoroughly impressed. All dishes were cooked to perfection with amazing flavor and taste. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the appetizers as well. I could tell significant time and effort was made in selecting this menu. Hats off to the chef and owner. This place has become one of my all time favorites. read more

I called to make a reservation for Saturday evening which is typically standard procedure for making a reservation at a restaurant. The man that answered the phone acted as though I was requesting something out of the realm of normal things to do. He suggested putting the reservation in on the website however the website was down. I explained that on the phone and the man said he would make sure the reservation got put in "the system". We showed up Saturday night at our designated time. Keep in mind this was to celebrate a special occasion. The host said she didn't have our reservation and then tried to tell me that the website wasn't down when we made the reservation ..like I'm a liar or something. At this point it was too late to put in our name for a group of four so our dinner plans were ruined. My suggestion is when people call over the phone to make a reservation, there should be some kind of paper version of the reservation list. Many other restaurants use this practice. We will not be wasting our time at this restaurant again as there are so many other dining establishments that could have carried out the simple task of getting our reservation right. I'm not mad that a mistake was made but I'm mad that there wasn't any type of accommodation made or any ownership taken of the mistake. Thanks. read more

We had our first visit tonight and 4 out of 4 meals were amazing. The decor is outstanding and attention to detail in woodwork and lighting is incredible. Prices were very reasonable. Wine selection had a couple bottles that I rarely see except in Chicago. We will return soon. read more

Great new spot in downtown Davenport! When I try a new restaurant that hasn't been open long, I always expect a few hiccups with service, food, etc. However, this was definitely not the case here. I went two nights in a row and both times, the server we had was outstanding. Friendly, knowledgeable, patient and very attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the salmon the first night and the shrimp the second. Both were amazing but the salmon stood out for sure. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was incredible. read more

We were excited to see that Half Nelson is open for carry out during the corona virus closures. Ordering online was straightforward and easy. And the food was fabulous. We ordered the crab beignet appetizer with remoulade sauce - wow, amazing. So was their pecan crusted fried chicken with cheddar grits- yum,yum and the oranges glazed shrimp tacos. Our only regret is not discovering this place sooner. Can't wait to dine in. read more

First time here. Great service. Sat outside as it was quieter. I had barramundi and it was excellent. Husband had rigatoni and it was good. Appetizers looked really good - next time we'll share one or two. Smaller menu but a little of everything-pork, steak, fish, chicken or pasta. Will go back again! read more

The drinks, the appetizers and the salmon were amazing the fillet mignon was not cooked correctly as ordered and the sauce tasted like Salsberry steak gravy from the freezer. The server was good. Will be back again try other dishes. read more
