Thought this is great for what it is - a local spot (albeit a local chain) with fresh food at reasonable value. Spoke to a local who has been going here for years and suggested anything except the burger. I don't do pastrami, so I ordered a tuna sandwich and no complaints. Everyone else ordered the famous pastrami dip... they all liked them, but said not sure they would have them again... just because they are not pastrami fans. All said the dip definitely added to sandwich. Note, even though the dip is part of the sandwich name you need to ask for it when you pick up the food. The onion rings were amazing and definitely a generous portion that supported the price. Would have preferred half as many for half the cost. Recommendation to order fries crispy was spot on and again generous size order - half size at half price would have been better. read more

I love going to The Hat! The food is always good at the two locations that we visit, Upland and Rancho Cucamonga at Victoria Gardens. While the wait is not always quick, you really cannot beat a good Pastrami or Bar-B-Que Beef sandwich. The orders of fries are very large and very hot and crispy. Some of the best fries I have ever had! I have been coming here for years but have noticed that the quality of their sandwiches have gone down in the last couple of years and the price has gone up. Now, I get inflation, rising costs and all, but the sandwiches seem to have gotten smaller over time. Oh, they still taste great, just smaller. For $9.99, I would have expected a bit more. We don't visit as often anymore, but still after an evening of brewery hopping or for lunch, you just cannot beat the taste of the food served at The Hat. read more

This is the most recent location of The Hat that I have been to. I came in pretty late, not too long before closing actually. The trash cans were all pulled out. The drink fountain was being washed out about 5-10 minutes into my eating inside. There was trash on the floor and I'm sure the employees just wanted us out of there. The food was good but didn't feel like it was anything special like it usually does. I don't know if I was just reading too much into the vibe from the employees or was it because I was walking around the store in wider than necessary circles because there were small piles of trash on the floor, globs of food on the floor, sauce and greasy things on the floor, as well as wrappers, napkins and what have you. I took note of the fact that several of the workers were speaking in Spanish. I asked for a bag, napkins and a box. The first time I said anything it seemed the worker didn't understand me. I asked in Spanish. I got the most confused look. When I asked again in Spanish they gave me the items I'd asked for real quickly. Hmm. That was interesting. I can't say it was a great experience but I can say that the food was good. The service was quick but again, i think it was because they wanted to get rid of us. I don't know when I'll return but I'll be sure it won't be so late. It wasn't so nice, feeling eyes like daggers piercing through my back, making me feel very uncomfortable and definitely unappreciated. Parking is free in the plaza lot. Clean location, was really busy for a weekday. We decided to do the drive through and it moved very quickly. I got the avocado sandwich with pastrami and my husband got the regular pastrami sandwich. We also ordered chili cheese fries and onion rings on the side. Everything tasted so good, but the portions man they're HUGE. I still have 3/4 chili cheese fries hanging out in my fridge. The prices are increasing and the portions are decreasing :( Before I moved to the IE, I lived in Alhambra just a block away from the original The Hat. When they opened up this location a few years back, my family was extremely excited. This location is indoors and has plenty of seating unlike the one in Alhambra. I've tried almost everything here, from pastrami dip to chili cheese fries. Portions can definitely feed 2+ people so find someone to share with! Everything here is good but I highly recommend pastrami dip, roast beef with gravy, chili cheese fries, and onion rings and don't forget an iced cold Orange Bang! I have been to the Hat a bazillion times! I love love love their pastrami sandwich. It's expensive but it's huge and totally worth it. Until today.....my sandwich was on a regular sandwich roll with just enough pastrami to fill it. It was cut in half with sandwich toothpicks in each half in a styrofoam container. Super weird, right? Normally it's on a long sandwich roll overstuffed with pastrami wrapped in paper. I paid $17.99 for this silly sized sandwich and I was very disappointed. I can't say anything bad about the pastrami itself, it still tasted amazing but whatever change has been made to your pastrami sandwich is a crime. I will not be buying one again unless I know it will be like it used to be or you drastically lower the price. The fries: Sometimes I forgot how large the small order is until I get the doubled up lunch sack full. Great of course but way too many for me so it's best to split them. Someday I'll try onion rings. Sammie: Ample filling of pastrami and pickles in a wonderful French bun. I love mustard but I love it more that they offer Gilden's spicy brown mustard packets to bump up the flavors. Truly marvelous that! When I crave pastrami the classic way this is the best place. For $19 and change, and a line of cars that took 25 minutes to navigate, it was so disappointing that the onion rings were cold. We stop here almost every time we drive from Vegas to SoCal. They have outside seating for the grels which makes it our default. We split the pastrami dip, small fries and a drink and there's always fries leftover. Pastrami here is great on a dip but try it on the fries. It's big so don't just order it for yourself. Do half orange half pineapple bang for a refreshing beverage. They get busy but he staff is fast and efficient. It's more expensive than a fast food burger place but worth it. read more
