Amazing place good people! Would love to go there anytime time. Always has g good food

Im from Philadelphia and every time I come to western Pennsylvania to see my boyfriend we ALWAYS come to Headkeeper! Its my favorite place to eat out that way! The food is amazing! I love the presentation and most importantly the taste. I always try something new every time I go. Thus far, the flavors in the dishes are well balanced and insightful. The food is also cooked as perfect as it could be; shrimp, scallops, filet mignon wonderful! The calamari is my favorite appetizer. I love the sweet thai sauce they toss it in, it really makes it unique! Also, the beer selection is awesome! I really love trying new food and beer here, incredible! I got the ahi tuna but it was cooked too much on the outside. It was rare in the middle but it was cooked too much on the border. It also had a metallic taste which was disappointing. My suggestion would be a spicy mayo drizzle with a dark fish sauce to cut the metallic tuna taste. This is an edit from my last review...yes I took away a star. Heres why, the last two times Ive been here, I came with 2-4 people. We all ordered our food at the same time, BUT it came at all different times! Not okay. The last time I had gotten my food last. I watched everyone else eat while I sat there hungry. And this recent time I sat and ate while my boyfriend watched. Again, not okay. Gotta work on this Headkeeper. Also, my boyfriend's filet mignon came out cooked medium well........gross. Filet mignon should be cooked no more than medium rare. Its common steak knowledge. Now, Ive gotten the filet from here before and never had an "overcooked" issue. And Im obsessed with ahi tuna. Ive had it all down the east coast at different spots. Its a very lean "meat" and therefore needs something fatty to accompany it. Headkeeper served it with a papaya poblano sauce which was unique, but not a good accompaniment to ahi tuna. A spicy cream sauce would be MUCH better. All in all, Ill keep coming back. And I will keep adding or taking away in my review. read more

Hands down one of the best places in Greensburg! The food is always good, fresh and prepared perfectly (my favorite is the Calamari!) the service is always outstanding. We love sitting outside on their patio - it can get a little loud because of the traffic but that is something that can be overlooked with all the other positives about Headkeeper. I am not a big drinker, but the coupled of cocktails I have had are very good and the prices seem reasonable as compared to other bars. Highly, highly recommended! read more

Not sure what all Greensburg has to offer in the unique eats and venues, but Headkeeper proved to be a great stop. I have been here before many, many years ago during the summer months. They have an awesome outdoor area that is easily bigger than the room inside. However I think there might be an upstairs? Hard to say for sure if it is open to the public. I went here with my BFF after some Sunday afternoon shopping. It's really distinctive compared to other places in the area, at least from what I gather. They are a bar, and widely celebrated for such as their walls are lined with cooler after cooler of about any beer/alcoholic beverage you could want. They have a small selection of draft beers, but the coolers are really were you can customize. I found a nice local IPA on tap and was pleased with my selection. What really sets this place apart in this area is the menu. They do not serve "bar" food. As someone who steers clear of bar food, this is a bonus. They specialize in tapas. The menu is small, also a good thing, and they make suggestions about choosing different tapas to complement each other. Since we were just getting a bite to eat we both opted for their pulled pork slider with a red cabbage slaw, and small salad on top. When our food came out the buns reminded me of steamed bao buns, which I absolutely love. However they were not as soft and airy as bao buns, but were still very good. The slaw has a nice sweet and spicy mix and the salad which was just lettuce, worked nicely as another texture in the sliders. Three came in an order for $9.00. Not too bad. So I would like to come back and try several plates for dinner sometime if ever I am back this way. My best friend (and fellow yelper) stopped in here on Sunday after some shopping. Honestly, I am surprised that I hadn't written a review for The Headkeeper in the past. I'm actually glad I didn't because in the past I probably would have given the place 3 stars. I started coming here when they first opened several years ago...a good friend and coworker was friends with the owner and we stopped in all of the time after work. This place has really made some changes since that time. The outside seating area used to be a parking lot...now it's great extra space when the weather is nice. Also, they added a second bar and seating area upstairs. However, I have sat up there on occasion and it gets so hot, it's actually overwhelming. I have left The Headkeeper because the only open seating was upstairs and it was simply too warm and uncomfortable to enjoy. As for the food, it is not typical bar food, which I'm sure most other reviews have mentioned. It is a tapas bar / restaurant - the appetizers and/or small entrees are meant to share. I like the menu because it is small and not overwhelming or busy. However, I do think it's a little pricey for how much you get. During the visit, my friend and I both went with the Garlic Sweet and Sour Pulled Pork Sliders - you get three sliders for $9. They were very good but although tasty, it simply wasn't enough. We both agreed that a 4th would have been perfect. Anyway, I have liked everything I have ever eaten here, including the stuffed mushrooms, veggies, tuna, and pizza. The only exception being the calamari. I am not a fan of it being tossed in the Thai chili sauce, it is simply too sweet. I know others that like it, but I am not a fan. On to the beer. I did not drink during this visit, just iced tea. However, boy have I in the past. If you like a nice selection, you've come to the right place. They have so many beer choices. How many? Over 600 varieties according to their website. Not so much in the draft department, but an entire wall is dedicated to their bottled beer. Many of which comes from local breweries - Latrobe, Mt. Pleasant, Pittsburgh, Greensburg, etc. You can also mix and match 6-packs to go. They also serve wine and mixed drinks, as well as non-alcoholic bevies. Overall, a great Greensburg staple. Its an interesting place. I guess their primary claim to fame is the raw number of beers they have, from regional PA breweries, to a good selection of domestic and international options. I think they said over 500 different beers. I do wish they had a better method of organizing them, cant remember if they had a list, but it was loosely separated by refrigerator door, by country/region. But it was fun strolling along the row of doors and looking for a hidden gem. The food was good, but since its tappas, stay with the tappas option which were served family style, which really equates to appetizers, but with a European flair. read more

Headkeeper is one of the best things about Greensburg. This beer and tapas bar would hold its own in a much bigger city-- I'll miss it when we move. It's not totally without issues-- the hostess/reservation/call-ahead system is inconsistent, and while the patio's great, the location on Main Street means that passing trucks occasionally pause all conversation. And it's not exactly cheap. I forgive it all of those things because you don't get a better beer selection than this, and the food is consistently on point. The wall of beer is impressive, and they have a great selection of anything you might be looking for, from trendy IPAs to obscure Belgian beers. The wall of bottles is our go-to, but they often have a good draft selection as well. It's clearly designed for beer drinkers, but I've been told the mixed drinks are usually quite good as well. The menu changes seasonally, which is fun. A few things can aways be found-- I can usually be talked into ordering the calamari or the Headkeeper toothpicks (they'll remind you of taquitos). Some things are always there but change a bit, like the filet and the crab cakes. They grill their steaks to order and can even do "Pittsburgh blue" if that's your thing. Mussels are always there-- I'm partial to the summer coconut curry and the winter Belgian ale sauces, but the spring and fall were good too, if not as interesting. I'm not a fan of the coconut shrimp, but the spring spicy shrimp/noodle dish was great. The pizzas are pretty good, and they've been wiling to make an off-menu option for a vegetarian friend in the past. The kitchen is tiny, and what they manage to put out of it is really impressive. If you find yourself in Westmoreland County, this is definitely worthy of a stop. read more

Great selection of beers. All of them were in the fridge so whenever decided to pink one it would be cold already. Not as cold as i like them to be but OK. The outdoor dining area is pretty nice. I love how open it is with fire burning lamps to keep you warm during those chilly nights. We thought about sitting outside but it was rather crowded and noisy so we went indoors. The noise level was no better inside but it's mostly a bar atmosphere so there's no way around that. The menu had a lot of good options to choose from. All higher end ingredients and some rare combinations. It took me a while to choose seeing that i love seafood but my hubby doesn't like it that much and that I was trying to find something for us to share. The food is all served tapa style and we were informed that it was enough for four people to share. We ordered bruschetta, crab cakes and my hubby got the grouper. Anyhow, the fish that he order was about the size of a tilapia which one person could eat to themselves. The bruschetta was decent. 4 slices neatly stacked log cabin style and drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette, very pretty. They were tasty but nothing special. I had 2 crab cakes that were supposed to come with salsa but there was nothing on it so they were very dry. I had to order extra and it turned out the salsa was just a bunch of diced tomatoes in marinade. They didn't taste that great to me. After trying 3 of their tapas i wondered how servings meant for four barely filled us up. I had to order another Tapa because we had yet to be satisfied. We visited this place after viewing a show a the palace theater so I was looking forward to more of a restaurant style portions instead of just samples. Our fourth tapa was calamari which i really enjoyed. it had a sweet and spicy sauce on it but the crust was a little soggy as if it had been sitting a while. I still enjoyed it though after basically starving from the prior servings. The calamari was the only dish that actually tasted amazing and was big enough to feed 2 or more people. Other than the beer selection and outdoor seating i didn't much like this place. Upscale prices but the waitresses dress like college kids bumming it to class. I had to hunt down my waitress to get the extra salsa and the beer was more expensive than back in pittsburgh. $60 for noise, over priced appetizers and college kids, i don't think ill return. read more

If you remember anything from this review, let it be "white truffle oiled oven roasted cauliflower". And if you have extra room in your noggin, add "sauteed forest mushrooms". I don't even like mushrooms but these beauts were served with scallions, basil and roasted shallots. Soooooooo good! My sister made a meal of it. Headkeeper is a tapas bar located in a side-of-the-road building that could easily be driven by 100X before realizing it's a creative and cozy bar/restaurant. When we visit family in Pennsylvania we often find ourselves at the the same places, Rizzo's, Gio's, Olive Garden, etc. So, it was with great excitement that I was able to convince my family to mix it up (Thank you Yelp "nearby" button). It was a happening Saturday night with a cool crowd at the bar and all of the tables filled. I could easily see myself grabbing drinks at this bar on the regular if I were a local. I mean, really, who could resist the green glow of the coolers lining the wall with a vast beer selection? Our order selection - which ended up being a very wise one included: -goat cheese and butternut squash dip served with pretzels and fried pita (the pretzels were the better of the two - the pita was too greasy for my liking) -Jamaican Jerk grouper served with a lobster butter and roasted red peppers - I'm allergic to fish but it looked delicious. If my father ordered it again, he would have asked to have the butter on the side. A wee bit on the heavy side. All in all, The Headkeeper was a delightful surprise. I am from the Washington DC area so it feels a little strange to say one of my favorite places to eat and drink is in Greensburg, PA. But it truly is! The Headkeeper would be a very unique place no matter where it was located. The main draw to this bar/restaurant is the beer selection. They offer a "glowing green wall of beer" that must have over one hundred different beers to choose from, from all over the world. You simply go over to the wall, choose your bottle, and get your bartender/waiter to open it for you. While the beer is a huge draw, the food is simply fantastic! It's all tapas style - so expect small plates that come to your table quickly. I would recommend the cauliflower, mushrooms, and "Headkeeper Toothpicks". Delicious! Visiting The Headkeeper will always be a tradition when I go skiing at Seven Springs at least once a year. A true hidden gem - check it out! read more

Came here for dinner on a Sunday with my boyfriend and almost every table on the first floor was full. We ordered 4 "tapas" to share. I put "tapas" in quotes because these portions are huge. Tapas are meant to be little snacks that go with drinks, but all of the dishes here are at least 3 times the size of normal tapas dishes. For the price, I'm not complaining, but I definitely wasn't expecting the big portions and we ended up ordering way too much food. Brie with Caramelized Walnuts & Honey Comes with bread and is really yummy. Would recommend this as dessert as it's really sweet. The Brie is covered in walnuts and honey and almost tastes like it's covered in condensed milk. Roasted Vegetables with Pesto & Basalmic My favorite dish, it came with zucchini, yellow squash, & red peppers. Both the pesto and balsamic reduction were super tasty. Small Filet Mignon with Mushrooms The filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare, but my boyfriend and I were not huge fans of the mushroom sauce. It was too salty for our tastes. I originally wanted to try the filet mignon with goat cheese like some other reviewers wrote about on here, but the goat cheese was from their old menu and they no longer have it. For $15, it's still worth it if you're craving steak. Potatoes with Scallions & Rosemary The potatoes were edible, but a little undercooked. The seasoning was good, but nothing special. We left most of this uneaten and packed it to go. Drinks They have a HUGE selection of craft beer at super reasonable prices. The ones we chose, domestic & imported, were $5-$10 a bottle. This is a great place to come hang out with friends and get your craft beer fix. Service Service was great and our waitress was super attentive. Whenever we grabbed a new bottle of beer from the fridge, she was always there right away to open it and get a new glass for us. 4 dishes, 3 beers, total was ~$60 some dollars. I have always wanted to expirience a Tapas resturant, and I was very very satisfied with my family expirience at The Headkeeper. We came here thinking we were going to have a few plates and enjoy a night together. Well, we wound up ordered about ten differenent plates and even some duplicates; it was that good. First off, our waiter was a cool dude. He gave us many suggestions because we have never been to a Tapas resturant, and he told us what the whole Tapas expirience was about. All of the servers here were very helpful. Now I am not old enough to buy drinks when I go out, but I will tell you right now I will be excited to come here once I turn 21. The entire wall is just lined with a countless number of different beers. The selection was unreal. I made sure I made up for my lack of alcohol by eating more food. Plate 1: We got the Mango BBQ Pork tostado with the sweet potato fries sprikled ontop of it. This was everyones favorite dish. This thing was like a thin BBQ pork pizza. It was so phenomenal that we actually got two of them. Plate 2: Cauliflower drizzeled with white truffel. Yeah we got two of these; they were that good. Seriously amazing. I dont know how they cooked these bad boys but it was the best cauilflower i have ever had. Plate 3: Basalmic marinated vegetable. Wow I did not know veggies could taste so good. There was zuccheni, squash, onions, peppers, and probably some others that I didnt notice as I stuffed them into my mouth. Plate 4: Flash fried calamari was next on the menu. My only complaint about this plate was the fact it was gone in about 5 spoonfuls. It was also great. The chili sauce it was prepared in was sooo very tasteful. Plate 5: Stone oven pizza. damn this plate was good. Once again we would up ordering two of these bad boys. I would suggest you to get this just to make sure you actually get enough food from your meal. This was probably our most hearty plate of the night. Once again, very good and I would suggest ordering it. Plate 6: Balsamic portabella mushroom cap with crab meat. This plate was my mother's favorite, and I have to agree this plate was AWESOME. The basil sauce it was served with was great, and it defiantly completed the plate. Plate 7: Black tiger shrimp. This plate, just like all the other, was delicious. Not only was the shrimp great, but the veggies and extras that were with it were also all devoured. Once again, another great plate. Plate 8: Pan Seared Tuna. Ohhhh myyyy this was a great selection. Perfectly seared, and the seaweed salad it was served with was one of the best seaweed salads I have ever had. Plate 9: Pan Seared Salmon was one of my favorite dishes. The reason why was the sauce and the little potato cake it was served upon. Oh my did I mention the sauce it was served on? Goat cheese,?! Hollyyyy crap it was great, and that potato cake was amazing. Plate 10: We were completely filled up when a server walked by with a plate that looked great. It turned out to be The Headkeeper "toothpicks". They were chicken and pepper wraps with BBQ sauce. Geezzz this was another great plate. Probably wasn't my favorite dish, but it was defiantly worth trying if you like fried chicken wraps. I know it was probably overkill talking about each individual plate and describing how great each was, but I think the food was that good that it deserved the review. I would defiantly suggest this place if you are in the area, but if you are trying to be full at the end of the meal, make sure you bring some moolah. read more

This is definitely a place for beer lovers, with their huge selection of around 600 different beers there is something to find for everyone, their service is good and the outside patio in summer even better. My favorite food items are their toothpicks which are BBQ chicken tortilla wraps, their Creme brûlée is fantastic as well. read more

The beer selection, service and most food items were incredible. I had the scallops, which were great, pan seared/crispy outside and tender and juicy throughout. The sautéed forest mushrooms were amazing fungi. The filet was over cooked and cooked with teriyaki, which is not my preference. The cut of filet was a good one, so it covered some of the mishaps in seasoning and prep. The kitchen is directly behind the bar, which is a neat touch in my opinion. I give 5 stars out of the benefit of the doubt on the filet, since the kitchen got busy as my order went in and due to the other items being so delicious. read more

While on a weekend getaway, my wife and I stopped here for dinner. I wasn't sure what to expect, as it has a very sports bar feel inside, but once we ordered our food, I didn't care. There are many great options to choose from on their tapas style menu. We ordered just about every option just to try it all. Not one dish disappointed. And it was super cool to watch the chef prepare the dishes in an open kitchen style setting. The beer choices were also very nice. We weren't impressed. The beer on tap selection was rather meager, but okay. More importantly, we tried three small plates and only one was actually edible. The Ahi tuna was odd in texture and was poorly marinated. It also tasted and smelled like propane. The roasted cauliflower also tasted strongly of gas. The only edible item was the gumbo eggrolls, which didn't taste like gumbo. Furthermore the dipping sauce was really odd. Won't be back for food; maybe a beer. read more

Great food and a nice atmosphere makes this a local favorite for dinner plans with friends. The seasonal menu changes to feature exciting new dishes and flavors. The biggest draw of this place is the enormous selection of beer, although I'm not a big "beer person" myself. Reservations are recommended for dining because space can be a bit limited on weekend nights, but during the summer months they also expand to their beautiful outdoor patio. This place has great drink and a lot of different beer option. Their food is mediocre though. A friend got a "steak" and he was given a literal meat brick. Not filling at all and way too over cooked. Everything is served a la carte and if you're a full grown man you will leave that place hungry. For the quality of the food the prices are a little steep. I was in Greensburg for work with a colleague and wanted somewhere to unwind and eat on a Tuesday night. A quick Google search brought us to The Headkeeper, a short drive from the hotel we were staying at. Not being too familiar with the area, I was expecting the usual bar fare: burgers, pretzels, and all kind of fried delights. Let me just say right now if you're looking for typical bar food, you're out of luck. I was pleasantly surprised to see the menu with the likes of goat cheese topped filet, and condiments such as blackberry habenero sauce. This place knows food, and they execute it well. The menu rotates throughout the year and I suspect that it's carefully crafted to delight your tastebuds. But seriously. This place is dope. They have wall full of different bottled craft beers. They play a great selection of music from the yesteryears. They believe in air conditioning. Really what else could you expect from a bar in the middle of Greensburg on a Tuesday night. Hands down the best beer selection, if you can't find a beer you like you haven't looked hard enough! Great food as well! I had the porterhouse lamb chops with sweet potato creme fraiche, they were seasoned perfectly and were absolutely delicious!! Food is served as it is done so you may not get everything served at the same time but it ensures that your food if fresh and hot and not dried out under a heat lamp. While staying in town for work, a coworker and I stopped here for dinner. It was a gorgeous day and we were pleased to find they had a huge patio with a bar that was open. There were alot of people there but we were still quickly sat at our table. The menu had so many good options but we decided on a petit filet mignon, stone oven margarita pizza and brussel sprouts. The filet was good, it had a gorgonzola cream sauce over the top. The pizza had a fantastic flavor - a little spicy and a little sweet with alot of delicious cheese. The brussel sprouts were perfectly grilled with a great flavor. We were very pleased with all our food choices and commented that we will definitely return in the future when we are in town. I took a star off for the service, she was efficient but never really checked on us and wasnt friendly. read more

Excellent beer. Definitely a quality beer bar. The large variety of bottled beer is unmatched in the area. Don't go there if you choose domestics as your beer of choice. Recently, they started adding some of these great micros and imports on tap. Only downside is they close early. Don't expect to go there and hang out until 2:00 AM. Even on the weekends during the hot summer months they start shutting down between 12:30 and 1:00, even with a large crowd. Ambience is average though. For a great beer bar, they could do better...maybe a pub theme or a more unique decor? read more

You come here for the beer selection, it's very broad. They do have very good tapas and it's close to other bars to where yo can bar hop around. Nice location, nice beer selection and good food. Be prepared to spend a few extra dollars. It's in the pricy side. read more

Awesome and amazing! My college town. We went back this weekend and had 8 different small plates between 4 of us awesome time. Fast prep time. Perfect amount. Definitely go if you haven't read more
