My friend and I visited The Henry on Sunday around 3:00 PM with a baby and had an extremely disappointing experience before we were even seated. As we approached the host stand, we heard two couples tell the host they did not have reservations and they were seated immediately. When it was our turn, the host told us the wait would be over an hour and did not add us to a waitlist. We stayed nearby for a few minutes and overheard the host tell another group that their wait would be less than 20 minutes. After being told our wait would be over an hour, it was frustrating and upsetting to hear such a different answer being given to guests who had also just arrived. As a Mexican woman, the difference in treatment made me feel unwelcome and question whether we were being treated fairly. The host was rude, dismissive, and made what should have been a pleasant brunch outing feel uncomfortable from the start. We left without dining because of the way we were treated at the front of the restaurant. My korean skirt steak melted in my mouth. Perfect portion size and cooked well. My husband had no complaints about his burger! Came here Friday 4/17 for lunch before we went to the beach, whole staff was very friendly & sweet with every interaction we had. The food was amazing!!! We got the potstickers, the Korean skirt steak, guacamole & a California roll to share. Our server was Peter who was very friendly & gave so many good suggestions for what we should order on food. It's so nice to be served by someone like Peter who takes pride in his job & just overall wanted us to have an amazing experience, in which we did. Not a surprise that we ended up having appetizers after walking around checking out the xmas decoration at Coronado. Mind you we had dinner before we left home. We had a great time eating breakfast here! I've only ever come here for dinner before, but we decided to try breakfast and it was awesome. They are super busy on the weekends and the wait for a table with service was 90 minutes, but they have tables outside that are first come first serve and you can order from the same menu at the counter and bring it to the table yourself. We did this but the servers still checked on us, brought us utensils, bussed our table anyways, and were very kind. Great ambiance, great food, the pastry was the best part! I also loved the coffee. Where do I even start... every time I'm wandering down orange street I want to stop and eat, but the line is so....long. This time I got on the waitlist as soon as I arrived and enjoyed shopping while I waited. Oh no.... How terrible (sarcastically saying). Even though the line and wait was long and the place was packed none of the staff were flustered or overwhelmed. We had absolutely amazing service from our waiter who was on top of everything, friendly and attentive, the food came out hot and the wait was normal. The patio is nice and shaded and even with a full house and being on the road it's not loud, but comfy and a great place to have a lovely meal with friends and family. As we went to pay and leave, the waiter noticed a member of our party hadn't eaten much and didn't want a to go box. The item was not cooked well and though we didn't complain, the waiter noticed. He apologized and took it off our bill. The manager actually returned our card apologizing, sharing his business card, also taking off a coffee drink, and insisting on making something else. This was so above and beyond and we felt so taken care of and when the manager found out we were locals he went and made us a gift card! my mind was blown. We felt like royalty and even though we aren't special, just a family out for a nice brunch, it truly made our day and showed the care and pride the staff takes in their restaurant. Arrived in San Diego after a long drive to see my daughter who's in the Marines and I was exhausted and hungry. I stopped at The Henry for breakfast because it looked inviting and relaxing. There was a miscommunication at the host stand, but Sasha noticed it right away and fixed it on the spot. Late Post: 08-25-24 First time here and came for a birthday lunch with a friend. This is located on the main strip in Coronado, so only street parking available around the area. This restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit inside. I like the decor inside and they also had a lot of very healthy plants around which entertained me since I love plants. The staff here is friendly but our host was even friendlier and very attentive to our needs. They have a pretty good size menu but we went and tried the following items: Short Rib Potstickers - this came with six potstickers with a sweet and savory sauce. The potstickers had a lot of meat in it and almost tasted like bulgogi-ish to me. Soooo yum! Korean Skirt Steak - The skirt steak was perfectly cooked and marinated. Sooo very flavorful and had so much umami. This comes with double egg fried rice and yummy fixins. Bolognese - This was a highlight for me because it had two of my faves, truffle and herbed ricotta. This was so rich but it a very, very good way. Key Lime Tart Brulee - This was our complimentary birthday dessert. This was just perfect amount of tart and very good. They are also very welcoming to special diets which makes bringing your picky friend easy. Best part it's just a block off the beach. If you aren't sure where to go in the are, look no further. Our server was so nice especially since we had a little one with us. The food tasted very fresh and we all enjoyed our meal. We shared the tuna appetizer and each got mains. I love this place! Service here was excellent. Our server was on top of checking in on us and very friendly. The restaurant was very clean and not crowded. We ordered the Beverly Hills Club which is hands down the best club sandwich I have ever had. The bread was so delicious and really tied the sandwich together with a nice buttery flavor. We also had the Hot Honey Crispy Chicken which hit the spot for cravings for a spicy chicken sandwich, refreshing use of ingredients in the slaw and spice altogether! Had dinner at The Henry and overall it was such a great experience. The drink menu is honestly dangerous in the best way. Everything sounds amazing and you want to try all of it. Every cocktail we had was delicious. For dinner, I ordered the chicken frites. It was good, but a little on the salty side. I normally wouldn't say anything, but our waiter was so genuinely kind and easy to talk to that I felt comfortable sharing it as just helpful feedback. He handled it perfectly, super gracious, not awkward at all, and said he'd let the kitchen know. What really stood out is how thoughtful the follow-up was. He came back quickly, checked in, and they ended up bringing us complimentary desserts and even adjusted our check. He mentioned the kitchen had recently made a change to the recipe and actually appreciated the feedback, which was nice to hear. Between the service, the atmosphere, the drinks, and the desserts (which were incredible), it made for a really memorable night. The manager also stopped by and was just as warm and attentive. The Henry has a gorgeous ambiance. It really is a beautiful space, and I wanted to love it, especially given its great location in Coronado. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match the setting. We arrived for a 4:30 reservation and walked up to the hostess stand, where four staff members were huddled around a tablet and didn't acknowledge any of the guests waiting. Not the best first impression, and that kind of aloof service seems to be becoming a trend everywhere lately. Once seated, we looked over the menu. The selections were limited, but we assumed that meant everything would be outstanding, especially at the price point. I was surprised to learn that the Roasted Chicken Frites, my first choice, was already sold out during early dinner service. I had a hard time choosing and eventually went with the short rib potstickers and the spicy double egg fried rice. We also ordered the jumbo crab cake. The food was fine, but nothing memorable. The potstickers were good, the fried rice was too moist and a bit sweet for my taste, and the crab cake was just okay. When dessert came around, they were already out of the Lemon Olive Oil Cake, so we opted for the Molten Butter Cake, which was actually really good. Cocktails were decent as well. Overall, I left feeling underwhelmed. The ambiance is the star here, but the service and food didn't quite live up to it, especially considering some items were unavailable so early in the evening.
