The hoxton is a beautiful hotel with a very classy downstairs bar and a gorgeous rooftop with a pool, 2 bars, etc. This was my go to rooftop for the entire summer. Until one day I went to the hoxton and was discriminated against twice. I was denied food upstairs while other customers of different color were served food. Then I went downstairs and was told the bar was closed (after a different employee told me it was open for another hour), and I was denied drinks while drinks were steadily poured for other customers. This was shocking to me in 2019 and very saddening because, I loved this bar prior to that. If it wasn't for this incident I would give 5 stars and would still go regularly but, I refuse to spend money somewhere who treats people that way. Let alone, loyal customers. read more

This place has horrible service. I walked in with all my luggage in there horrible bell cart (which I had to get myself because the bell hops standing at the door just looked at me and didn't help). Not only that, I get to the front desk to be treated like they knew me? They way they talked to me wasnt professional. I've visited this property quite a few times but this time decided to stay here. First I will say the staff is very nice and friendly. The room however, I am so disappointed in spending almost $400/night for this. It's a ripoff. I've had issue after issue. There was no TV remote so had to ask them to bring that up. There were old pills of some sort on the bathroom floor from a previous guest when I entered. The AC shoots this loud sounding air every 2 minutes on the dot that it kept waking me up throughout the night. I asked if they could fix it but they said no. The walls are SUPER thin and I can hear even just footsteps next door. The toilet handle broke and the light would not turn on every time in the bathroom. I asked it to be fixed. No one came after I waited over an hour and a half. So I called back and they sent someone. He was very helpful and that was fixed. The TV goes in and out and I spend a lot of time in the room, so this isn't great. I love the bars and restaurants here but that's about it. I won't spend this much money to stay here again. read more

This is for the Working From co-working space at the Hoxton. The idea of the space is great yet the wifi NEVER works, the music is way too loud, and the reservation system for conference rooms is confusing. There are also limited outlets in the general sitting area. I'm not sure how this can be called a co-working space at this point. Serious improvements need to be made. I will say that Ryan S. at the front desk is lovely - you get attitude from the rest of the employees in the space. When I mentioned the wifi issues, a woman at the front desk said, "yeah we know" in an annoyed tone. At this point, I would not be able to recommend this space to anyone that actually wants to get work done. read more

This place is dope! I love how the West Loop just keeps growing and growing, great new eateries, bars and hotels and all that. Just walked in to check it out, Hoxton is a really cool space. Came to the Hoxton for one of their grand opening events called "Something Will Happen" in the west loop. It took place on the second floor where we enjoyed their signature old fashioneds. We spent about a half hour up there and came downstairs to their speakeasy bar called lazy bird. We ordered a few drinks from Dennis, who was perfect at executing a brand new menu that was hand drawn by an artist by the name of Kate Dehler. Overall, he was on point with his recommendations and even poured us a "Singapore sling" that wasn't even on the menu. Great service, great spot to catch up with an old friend or your significant other. read more

Witnessed the waiter bringing pasta with his bare thumb touching the noodles in the bowl. Given no tray to bring the pasta to the table. Gross. And surprising for such a high priced place during covid. Skip it. Maybe get cocktails and call it at that. The food wasn't memorable either. read more

We were suppose to be staying this weekend at the Hoxton but flights from NYC to Chicago kept cancelling all day due to weather. We had booked this trip months I advance while they were offering their initial welcome pricing. We called the hotel to explain what had happened and we were so fortunate to speak to Angie. She was so friendly and understanding and was able to rebook us without issue. After a stressful travel day of going nowhere Angie was a ray of sunshine. Even though we only spoke on the phone I cannot wait to stay at this hotel that's already demonstrated great customer service! We've stayed at multiple Hoxton properties and have always had great experiences. Thanks again Hoxton for your flexibility with us and can't wait to stay there in Dec! read more

Great Rooftop, gets really packed during the week. Only feet are allowed in the pool after 6p. Make note of this, security will ask you to get out. I guess drinks are comparable with other bars in the area. I had a few. read more

The Hoxton bar is a stand out in Chicago because it's full of the grown and sexy set. No children all adults in every sense of the word!!! I can't give any higher praise than that! When I was there the roof top bar was closed, which may have created a unique atmosphere it was enjoyable. It wasn't my turn to buy rounds but I am sure the libations weren't cheap. But at my age I'm sick of going out and feeling like a baby sitter and this was one of the few places that negates that for the late thirties and up crowd. I will be back. read more

What a joke! They promote a high end hotel & it's beginners league. No room or bar service after midnight. Grow up!! The worst!!

Edit: dropped a star because two weeks after checking out I still have a pending charge on my credit card from The Hoxton and despite multiple emails with them (in which they claim it can take 10 business days for the bank to return the funds even though it's now been 12) it has yet to be resolved. I stayed here about five weeks after opening and while the hotel is very visually appealing and conveniently located there are still a lot of kinks they are working out - I think those being fixed would give it four stars. First off, I got in late on a Monday night and while I was being checked in all three front desk people were telling me how delicious the breakfast in a bag is and asking if I wanted it in the morning -- I said yes thinking they were basically ordering it for me, but really I needed to hang the bag outside the door in order to get the breakfast. They also told me that my room rate came with a drink and snack at check-in and I told them I wanted the popcorn and wine, but then when I got up to my room, realized they hadn't actually given it to me, and by the time I had settled in (more on that in a sec) was too tired to even ask for it. Second, when I got to my assigned room I discovered it had a ladder in it and it looked like someone had left in the middle of a project and forgotten to come back. I didn't mind too much because I figured they would just put me in a different room, but when I called down it was like they didn't believe me -- they sent someone up to verify and then he had to call down to the front desk to get me a new room. It took about 10 minutes which only bothered me because I was so tired and it was almost midnight at that point. The new room was down the hall but on the north side instead of the south side of the hotel so I lost my city view (but gained some distance from the green/pink line L). The room itself is cozy, but I missed having a desk especially since it was a work trip. I did not like that the bathroom door shut on its own and ended up using the ottoman to prop it open while I was going back and forth to get things out of my suitcase and get ready in the morning. I also was not a huge fan of the coffee tea bag situation (although I love that they put organic milk in the fridge to use). The fridge seemed fairly inefficient though since it was hot on the outside -- for a new hotel that surprised me. Last weird little thing considering the newness of the hotel: two of the lights in the bathroom were out (and not because you need to put your key in for the lights to work -- one just randomly flickered and the other didn't seem to have a bulb). I slept poorly all three nights of my stay -- not for a particular reason I can note -- the bed was a bit hard but not exactly uncomfortable and the pillows were a little thin but I could double them up -- so that may have clouded my experience a bit. The public spaces like the lobby and the roof were quite hip, but it was almost too crowded -- tried to get a drink in the speak easy in the basement with two colleagues and we couldn't get a table at 11pm on a Tuesday night. I did love the barre/yoga studio which I discovered sadly on my last morning there. It was super well appointed (not for a gym but for a barre studio) and was a nice and relaxing space. read more

This establishment needs to decide whether they are a lounge/bar or a hotel. The service was terrible. Don't believe that their claim of 2:00 check in is real as we arrived at 2:30pm and our room was not available until almost 4:00pm. We stayed here for a friend's wedding but had we known what a let down it would be, I would have stayed elsewhere and just come to the festivities. We went out to dinner as a large group and when we came back, we were deciding where to go, as the lounge was packed. We were standing in the entrance when we were approached by someone from the hotel who made a comment to us about moving along as we were blocking access for the hotel guests. WTF we were hotel guests. I will not be staying at this establishment any time soon. Complete poor experience. They need to treat their guests better. read more

Meh, the cleaning staff left my door open all day twice. The staff where generally fine, but usually a bit prickly, except one wonderful desk person. The design is done by the same firm that did soho house, so it feels like soho's dunce cousin. Like it's fine I guess, but again just pretty meh. Really wanted to love this hotel but unfortunately it has a few major flaws. At the end of the day it's a great location, no doubt about that, but I didn't feel it had enough value for the almost $200 a night price tag. Keep in mind that there is no housekeeping during COVID (which wasn't mentioned to us before we booked) so if you're staying for more than 3 days it starts to get weird with your garbage and towels. No one ever called us to ask if we needed our garbage disposed of, or if we needed fresh towels, nothing. There wasn't even anywhere to get filtered water for the room. Before booking this hotel I called around to a bunch in the area to understand what their policies and procedures were for COVID. I settled on this hotel because they said the restaurants were open, pool was open with limited capacity, bar was open, and they had a working space. My boyfriend and I needed to work multiple days during our stay and upon asking if the rooms had desks (they do not) we were told not to worry because there was space for us to work from within the hotel. Upon arriving we were informed that it's $30 per day per person to use the work space. That would have been an extra $180 for the two of us to sit at a desk for a few hours and no one mentioned the additional cost when I had inquired before booking. In addition, the one day it was nice enough to use the pool it was closed for awning repairs. So overall, it wasn't a great experience and certainly not a good choice if you're wanting to get work done. The people that work at the hotel are SO nice, so that's a plus, but at the end of the day that just didn't make up for the cons. read more

The breakfast that they give you in the morning is really delicious. We were bummed we didnt have time to take a bike ride with their complimentary bikes, next time. Hotel is absolutely beautiful and bars are fantastic, however all walls to rooms are incredibly thin. I can hear my neighbor clearing their throat. The fridge door was left ajar inside the cabinet and I think was busted. And that alone didn't bug me for a one-night stay but it makes me question how thoroughly they are going through rooms... they follow strict cdc regulations in the public areas which is wonderful, I just hope the rooms are cleaned properly too. We had a mix of very wonderful staff interactions and also some that weren't so good. A good choice for a quick stay! read more

Even in these challenging times it is befuddling how a business can not take the time to simply respond to an opportunity to make a sale. The customer service wasn't poor. It was completely non-existent. No responses, no offer to help, nothing. Was just trying to book a small meeting, 10 rooms plus meeting space but couldn't be bothered to reply. Seems like a new area hotel would be motivated to be a little better right now. UPDATE- I did eventually get a response and a kind apology. This time didn't work out with Hoxton but will try again someday. read more

The Hoxton is beautiful, truly. My wife and I live in the city but decided to do a long weekend staycation here because of how beautiful Cira is and what a great time we've had at Lazy Bird in the past. We were very excited and the room was very beautiful... but, I would never stay here again. 1) the bed is SO SOFT. It felt like we were sleeping direct on the platform. 2) the platform itself wasn't anchored to anything so we'd wake up and the pillows were on the floor between the top of the bed and the headboard and the mattress was not even on the platform properly. It wouldn't stay put. 3) there was no fitted sheet on the bed and flat sheets (just like the bed and platform) don't stay put so we'd wake up laying directly on the mattress cover- gross. We asked the front desk about it and they said it's a 'European style that's not for everyone' 4) the toilet ran constantly and was super annoying 5) breakfast in a bag was two small apples, two OJs, and two oat pots which... imagine if oatmeal was a cold jello. Additionally, we had requested a vegan option and the oatmeal that was delivered to our room wasn't vegan. 6) for being a hip millennial hotel in the West Loop, I had assumed there would be something vegan for me to eat. I assumed super wrong. My wife went to the lobby after we found the oatmeal wasn't vegan and asked Cira what could be made vegan... they said the Turkish breakfast which on the menu is goat cheese (nope), cucumber salad, olives, sujuk (this is sausage, nope), hard boiled egg (nope), whipped yogurt (nah), simit, seasonal preserves, muhammara. My wife questioned it because that doesn't seem like a comparable option to any other menu item when the non vegan components are taken out and the server said 'it's not vegan but it's close.' Nah girl- close ain't it and this is a hospitality business. Y'all going to charge me $16 for what? Just generally - everything is so pretty and absolutely not functional. The rooms are wonderfully soundproofed from the train but not from neighbors or the hall. The bathroom floods when you use the shower. There's no place to put your bags. No iron. Two towels. A refrigerator that truly kept things room temperature. A bed so uncomfortable I woke up with a back ache. No thanks. read more

If you're in Chicago for pleasure The Hoxton is a decent choice, if you're there on business give it a hard pass... it will intensely annoy. The hotel is very pleasantly designed, or rather I should say it was very pleasantly designed by people who have never earnestly travelled on business, probably in a studio where how cool things looked was more important than how well the hotel functions for its guests. Don't get me wrong, I love the design and feel of the place but the practicality is just not there for the road warrior. Cases in point... the onsite restaurant does not open for breakfast until 8:00am on weekdays, just insane. Forget a business dinner in the Cira restaurant, music is intrusively loud; I enjoy loud music for sure, but not when I'm trying to have a sensible conversation with a colleague. My mid-priced room had no desk, so there was nowhere to work comfortably, no iron/ironing board provided, you can request but that's annoying. Room amenities had not been restocked at least for my stay, coffee bag but no spoon. Even dumb things like nowhere to hang a towel next to the shower; like a said... designed in a studio. While one may want to help out smaller boutique hotels, it becomes clear just how much the Hyatts, Hiltons and Marriotts of the world have got right. Sorry Hoxton... rather than get mad at my review why don't you just fix these few things and you'll be a go-to. read more

I'm Very disappointed with my experience today at the Huxton hotel. I understand the law and what's going on due to COVID right now but I believe they should work out time management and not come up with everything separately every 3 min . You can't even relax and enjoy a conversation because you have to put a mask on like l said every 3 min . When this was brought up to one Of the workers not to come as often, a manager came by shortly after and was very cold and rude leaving out bill and basically kicking us out . If this is the rule they should bring the food to the table all at once along with silverware and drinks so that you can actually enjoy the experience. Within 10 minutes we were putting masks on 4 times. The manager was pointing at us from far and people saw it and it was uncomfortable for us. read more

I also like how the valet service is ran. The whole ticket to your phone is awesome. Overall nice hotel and awesome location near Fulton market & west loop! There is a train that runs on one side (although city views are better there) so I would recommend requesting & staying on the quieter side unless you appreciate the charms of a train going by. Very trendy space! One thing I wish they had were robes! Hang them on the clothes rack in the rooms! For the cost of this hotel that would be an easy addition that people love after a shower. Great lobby and restaurant with coffee pop up on-site. Lots of great restaurants nearby! (Like Aba) read more

I'm not sure I've ever been this disappointed with a hotel. I expected to be treated politely but even the bare minimum of service felt like too much to ask from the staff here. The guy who checked us in implied that we weren't guests and was nothing but attitude. Our room was dusty and dirty, seemed barely wiped down. They put us right next to a utility closet that kept slamming open and shut all afternoon. The clientele of the restaurant below constantly blocked the entrance and made it hard to leave and come back. I would give a negative rating if I could. read more

I stayed in the "Roomy" but it was small. No closet. No hangers. No where to place your suitcase to unpack except the bed. No wash cloths. No tissues. No desk to do business. Sink hand towels are on the other side of the toilet instead of the sink. No shower door or glass. Rain shower head had about fifty holes but water came out of about ten of them. Tiny streams like from a water pick. Not enough water to shower. So I used the hose style attachment with small shower head instead. It was like standing with a hose as you freeze with no door or glass to collect steam or warmth. A/C did not work but engineering came quickly and fixed it. But my colleague's room was 80 degrees at night and had to change rooms. Lobby is very loud and crowded, overflowing with hipster happy hour patrons. A minimalistic Euro style trendy hotel but not comfortable or plush. If you like the Marriott or Hyatt this is not the place for you. If you like trendy hipster hotels you're better off at the Ace Hotel around the corner where they have all the things missing listed above. read more

No No No! The hotel is next to an elevated subway that runs all night. It runs every 10 minutes but cuts back to every 30 minutes at some point, as if that matters. Unless you don't need to sleep, stay away. I wish I had know better. read more

I had a wonderful evening with a friend visiting from LA. We went to a couple of nice cocktail bars in Fulton Market, had a lovely dinner at Aba, and finally decided to stop into Hoxton for a couple more drinks to cap off our night. We sat patiently at Lazy Bird on a Tuesday night for a solid 20 plus minutes with no service whatsoever, so we simply got up and left. We then stopped at the bar in the lobby and were told they were just closing for the night. I explained to the woman at the bar, who identified herself as Marie, our disappointment with the service at Lazy Bird and asked to speak to a manager. She was visibly annoyed and tried to discourage us from doing so. She said it would be a "few minutes" and I agreed to wait as I wanted to express my disappointment in their service in person rather than doing so anonymously online. I sat and waited for another 5 minutes or so and asked her again how long she thought it might be before a member of management would be available. She scoffed, sneered and said it would be "at least 30 more minutes." The entire experience was such a total failure on so many levels for any business in the service industry, starkly more so for one appealing to this clientele at this price-point - wait time, client interactions, well trained staff, properly handling a valid complaint, making a member of management available, etc. I've been here a handful of times and have recommended the hotel to friends and colleagues visiting Chicago, but after this experience will certainly never do so again. read more

A little slice of LA right here in Chicago. A cool hotel with some glaring corporate missteps. Some boardroom fantasy of what is hip, the hotel has enormous potential but suffers from demographic farsightedness. A perfect example is the lobby, a sprawling artist rendering of hip aughties leisure tinder meeting-point. Fireplace, oversized couches, high ceiling cafe-bar. Every patron can see and be seen from any seat. The problem, 70 decibels of mid-tempo disco at 9:30am. The music so heavily brands everything it touches I dare say the food tastes of disco. The beautiful people, young and old alike are rendered douches trying hopelessly to seem relevant. The older patrons suffer the most. Nobody with a hangover wants to listen to this party-boat music. Kool and the Gang, great as they were, are red-flag bearers of bad weddings and cruise ships. In the right setting old school can work, here it's oppressive and heavy-handed. The promising looking coffee bar serves weak espressos and capps...really? In the town of Intelligencia Coffee, you can get a trained barista and quality beans. The rooms are small and comfortable. The nice fat Marshall Bluetooth speaker is a nice touch. The lack of a clock is a bit weird. How about the gym? Nope. No gym. 2019...no gym. The hotel is a bit loud, the drunk revelers careening home to have bad sex mixed with the sounds of trains going by outside. But what about the breakfast goodie bag you get to hang outside your door only to wake to the breakfast fairy gifts of fresh fruit? I dreamt of pineapple slices sprinkled with pomegranate seeds only to wake to an empty hook outside my door. What? Did someone take my bag? Seriously? So I wrote this review in the lobby, drinking my shitty cappuccino, reading the NY Times (nice), listening to Jungle Boogie for the ten thousandth time in my life. Mood today: Sucker... read more

My daughter and I stayed there for 1 night (wish we did 2) on 4-27-2019 because we got tickets to the Fletch summer launch pop-up at The Lakewood. We really weren't sure what to expect since they just opened. The lobby is very large with the L tracks in view above the bar which is really cool. Decor is a modern Bohemian style with lively music playing. The front desk staff were really helpful and offered us a free umbrella to borrow if we needed when we would head out later. He gave us the tip to get to the Lazy Bird speak easy when it opens at 5pm in the lower level (which we did and it's beautiful!). We got to our room and we were on the 9th floor with a great view. The room was fairly small, but the bedding was crisp and clean. Loved the old school rotary phone and Marshall speaker on both bedsides. We opened the drawer in the dresser and there was a brown bag that said, "Clean me up Scotty"...reverse were check boxes for your dry cleaning (very clever). We filled out the bag hang on the hook outside for our FREE overnight oats, juice and apple which came promptly at 8 am the next morning. It was very tasty and such a nice touch. They had a small refrigerator in the room with 2 large glass bottles of water - again at no charge. The bathroom was immaculate, modern and just beautiful. Whoever designed the rooms gets an A+ from us. No closet, but they had a decent brass rack to hang your coat, etc. and that was no problem. We were pleasantly surprised that there was a TV in the room. On the website there was no mention of a TV in any of the rooms which when we booked we thought that was weird, but maybe the hotel wanted you to purposely get out and enjoy their space rather than sit in your room. :). There were 2 glass wine glasses in the room (thank you...no one should drink wine from a plastic cup) so we popped our wine we brought and put it in the refrigerator. Absolutely no complaints on the room as everything was perfect down to the specialty shampoo and conditioner in the shower. The next morning we grabbed some coffee at the lobby coffee bar. The barista wasn't the most friendly, but my daughter rattled off what she wanted so I'm assuming the barista didn't think she had to question her. The barista didn't tell us where to grab the cream, sugar, etc. but we did see it was a short distance away. We sat in the bar area and grabbed breakfast which was really good and a reasonable price for the 2 of us. OUR ONLY complaint which is why I'm giving a 4 star rather than a 5 and here's why. Check-out was 12 Noon. Promptly at 9:00 AM we get a loud KNOCK on our door with them saying "HOUSEKEEPING". We put the DND sign back on the door. The housekeeping staff proceeded to knock on everyone's door on our floor saying, "HOUSEKEEPING" loudly. We could hear them clear as day from inside our room to all the rooms on the 9th floor. Hello...3 hours before check-out? I do hope after they read this review they change that. Regardless...a great cool fun place to stay. read more

When we returned from an all-day outing at 4 p.m. the room was not made up. The front desk agreed to send someone up in an hour after we got ready for dinner. A maid showed up in less than a half hour and entered without knocking while we were getting dressed. She seemed to agree to come back in 15 minutes but when we went to leave and told the desk the room was free, a very angry "manager" came charging toward us and told us they would not make up our room because we supposedly verbally abused the maid. This was completely false and when we asked to speak to whoever accused us of this his response was, "I don't have to". We checked out the next day and will never go back. Another issue that made us unhappy was that they played music on the elevator at ear-numbing levels. This hotel seems geared to very young people who probably share many to a room as it was extremely crowded. They also allow the public to use the pool which also gets very crowded. In a great neighborhood, but not for everyone. read more
