Yes, yes, yes! This is everything you want in a pub. It was packed when we arrived on Thursday evening. We ordered a drink and were seated after a short wait. Our server was sweet and quick to take our order. We chose the mussels for an appetizer. They were so delicious that I wanted a straw to drink the broth. As a matter of fact, I topped the mashed potatoes included with my entrée with said broth. I highly reccomend the braised short ribs. They were perfection. We looked at their specials on line, but they would not honor the prices online. Note that it wasn't just specials that might have been out dated, it was specials with the exact date listed that we were there. Even their menu shows a lower price on the house wine than we were charged. We brought it up to the bartender and the manager and both blew us off. The manager said you should Have been charged the lower price, but he refused to change it on our bill or give us a credit of any kind. Food was fine, service was not good. We saw our waitress twice exactly. Once to take our order and one to bring us our check. I won't be back, no clue why the reviews are so high. read more

OMG, it doesn't look like much from the outside. But the food was absolutely amazing! We came in around 1230 on a Monday and it was packed. We got one of the last available tables and drinks were immediately brought out. Food took average amount of time. The inside is very bar like but it was a comfortable atmosphere. First off, great staff. The place was a bit crowded and as we looked around one of the bartenders immediately greeted us and helped us find a spot at the bar. The drinks were great! I had one of the manhattans- I can't remember the name, but it was super smooth, delicious! Hubby had the monitor drink and sucked it down. I had the 1st street burger which was good, great little side salad with it and cooked perfectly. My hubby had the fish and chips which was excellent. A huge piece of fish and great serving of fries. First off: Tiffany is amazing! She is probably the best wait staff my wife and I have ever seen! I usually talk about the food first, but wanted to let her managers know that they have a true diamond of a person! Second: The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD amazing. I had the Reuben and my wife had the Corned Beef and we both thought we had died and gone to heaven. We had a nice flight of 4 beers, which at the current price of $9, was a great deal, in our opinion. My wife loves sour beers and there were at least 4 of them on the menu. The interior is awesome as it looks like you are in a true Irish pub and there are enough tvs to see the games and whatever else is going on. Let me start by saying I suck and forgot to take pictures because I was hungry lol but I did get one of this drink and it was delicious. When you first walk in the pub looks a little underwhelming but don't let it scare you. The food is good! We got the wings, the Bavarian pretzel, a burger, fish and chips and a side salad. The pretzel is so good and it comes with cheese and a house made mustard for dipping. I tried a bite of the burger (I don't normally order burgers at restaurants) but it was tasty and made it well. The fish was also really good, nice and crispy, cooked well and flavorful. The only thing that I didn't love were the wings. They weren't bad but they were a little dry and would've been better with more sauce. As far as a bar/pub type restaurant it's really good and they have more than just the basic bar food you normally see. I definitely would recommend stopping by and checking them out if you want a chill vibe and to watch some sports as well. read more

Met my friends here before the Cardinals vs Dbacks game. Right next door to La Piazza PHX, right on 1st St. Got a meter right in front ($1.25 per hour). My friends were already there and grabbed a booth, so I met them inside. Cool little place! I'm cutting carbs, so I went with an order of their wings. Normally, $11.00, but it was Happy Hour, so they were only $7.00. Score! About 10 decent sized wings. I ordered them "extra crispy", and while crisp, I would have preferred another minute or so in the fryer. Sauce was good, ranch was good, celery sticks were good. For $7.00, it was a deal! My friends ordered some mussels and the fish and chips. It looked tasty, and they seemed to like it. Service was on point! There wasn't a minute that went by without someone checking on you or refilling your waters and what have you. I was impressed. Only bad thing I can say about the place is that the floor was SUPER slippery. I headed back to the restroom, and almost slipped twice. Walk SLOWLY! Vibe was cool, menu looked great (when my diet is over, I would definitely like to check out some of their food), and the price was very good for happy hour. Oh My Gosh - coming from Flagstaff we walked in on a Friday nite and the placed was slammed - but as luck would have it they had a table. Ryan was our server - he was spot on attentive, just the right amount, and very personable. Hubs had the scallops and I had the crab cakes - gotta say I ate most of his grits, which were delicious. Both of the dishes delivered big time. One other thing of note was the teamwork between the staff - it actually felt good to watch! Go give this place a try! read more

Kettle Black has always been a place frequented when heading downtown. We visited on 11/24 before our show at Footprint and got there around 530pm. It was not very busy and there were only 2-3 waiters/food runners...at least it felt that way. Things were slow! Slow to be helped. Slow to get our two beers and slow to get our food. We ordered the chicken club, but they were out of sourdough. And the chicken wrap with the aioli on the side. We each ordered fries on the side as well...which by the way is not included with your entree anymore. $2 upgrade. I get that inflation sucks but that's just a bad look IMO. We got our food finally and there was no aioli on the side like requested nor our side ranches. No napkins or silverware either. The fries we paid $2 for were sad. Bottom of the bag, broken sized fries. No thanks. In short: I'm not sure we'll be back. Maybe for the beer and drinks but not the food. It had been awhile since we visited and it was always our spot. Good food, good vibes. Friday night...not so much. Very disappointing. read more

As a very German woman who married a very Irish man... Irish is now a part of who I am (haha). So, we LOVE to venture into authentic Irish pubs. Hubby and I found this about 3 years ago and have been going since. 1. I LOVE the pub atmosphere! This place is good for taking our kids, a date night, or meeting up with friends. They have a great bar menu and their drinks are always on point. 2. The food is to die for! I've eaten almost everything on the menu, and so have my kids. We really try and expand their pallet for foods around the world and they LOVE Kettle Black. 3. The people here are ALWAYS amazing. We've done bar service and eaten there, had friends at the elongated tables center room, and done the cozy booths as well. Our servers have always been great, and kept both the drinks coming and the service the best it can be. Never had a huge wait for seating or food. 4. They truly are thankful for you! I've been to approx 8 restaurants on the last 2 months. And in this time, Kettle Black takes the award for their thankfulness for my services. I ordered a pretty big meal to go last week, arrived on time, and BOTH people working there thanked me a handful of times for my order and helping to support them during this pandemic. They were kind, cheerful, and giving. They made sure I was well taken care of, and I did the same for them! I live almost 35 min north and still got them because we love them so much! My fiancee and I were looking for a place to stop on the way to a sporting event downtown and we have been trying to check some of the places we've scouted off of our list. We came in on a busy Saturday afternoon and had a couple of drinks and a couple of the appetizers. I ordered some Honey Hot chicken wings and she got the pretzel, and I ordered an IPA to wash down my wings. The service was adequate for how busy they were, and it gave us time to chat while we checked out the decor - which definitely has the English Pub vibe. The wings were pretty good, but I really enjoyed the pretzel - the mustard was phenomenal. I decided to order the fish and chips too, and my only gripe with that was the large size of the fish. I prefer smaller pieces rather than one giant piece, I guess I'm a breading fiend. Beer selection was great, I didn't have a hard time finding a beer that I wanted to drink. I will come back to throw back some beers and grab some grub at this place, but I think it would be a better place to go with some of my buddies rather than my fiancee. Kettle Black delivers on everything. The service was friendly and quick, the food was fantastic, and the ambiance is solid. We got here about an hour before we had to leave for a concert at Arizona Financial Theatre, and the timing worked out perfectly. I got the bacon onion burger with a side of the parmesan broccoli. The bun-to-patty ratio was a bit off (pretzel bun was a bit small for the patty) and it was pretty greasy, but it was really delicious, just what you'd want from a gastropub. The parmesan broccoli was really good, I just wish you got a bit more for $6. My girlfriend got the fish and chips, and it was definitely one of the best gastropub fish and chips we've ever tried in Arizona (and the coleslaw it comes with was killer! we don't usually enjoy coleslaw but we ate every bite). She also tried their seasonal prickly pear paloma, which she said was great. Overall, for the price (bill was around $60 before tip for our two entrees, a draft beer, and the paloma) I would definitely come back and recommend this place to my friends.
