Came here with a sweet $10 gift certificate and it exceeded expectations. Got here early in the morning before 9am so parking wasn't difficult to find. Parked in a small lot right behind The Kettle and paid for the meter. Got seated right away since people weren't coming in for breakfast just yet. There's so many options to choose from, so if you're indecisive you might have a hard time picking something. I was torn between pancakes, omelettes, other proteins - only cause the pastas and burgers weren't available until 11am. The muffins looked really interesting on Yelp, so we had to get one to try. I think it's a honey bran? muffin. It comes out warm and toasty, goes really well with the butter. For our entrees we ordered the Buttermilk Honey Fried Chicken & Biscuits and the Huevos Rancheros. The chicken was fried perfectly and tasted amazing with the biscuits & gravy. They have 2-3 different hot sauces too, so remember to ask. If you ordered appetizers, you might have enough leftovers from each entree for another meal later in the day. Each entree also came with a small juice. We got apple and guava - both really good. Took a friend here for a leisurely birthday meal. We had a very late lunch and the restaurant was not crowded so we had a chance to relax and enjoy our meal and enjoy each other's company. We split the zucchini parmesan (I could make a meal out of this), she had a chicken dish and I had the chicken parmesan. I've found it -- my favorite breakfast place. You're going to wait awhile on weekends, because it's mobbed! But while you're waiting, they offer a huge coffee pot and deeelicious little mini muffins by the front door. There is both outdoor and indoor seating. It looks like something out of a 70s movie. I wish I knew the name of our server. He was great. Probably in his 40s, very tall and big, very friendly, very knowledgeable. It was just a great experience. Had the All the Greens omelette with spinach,onions, zucchini and jack cheese ($16.50), which was fab. The breakfast potatoes were great, and the ambience was fun and funky. I've been coming to this place for near 40 years. In high school and college it was one of the few 24-hours places around (though they're not any longer). We'd come down in the middle of the night and get either just the bread pudding or a whole meal. The bread pudding is the same as it was back then, with raisins and a whiskey based sauce. Somewhere in the middle years they switched to another recipe (chocolate banana maybe?) but not the original is back baby! I've never had a bad meal from here. The whole menu is fantastic. I about made a date's head explode with the French onion burger. The French onion soup is amazing too. I love the laid back vibe. Like a diner, but better. About 5 miles south from LAX, you will find The Kettle. The Kettle has been a long standing establishment in the city of Manhattan Beach. My visits are far, few and in between mainly because of the parking, or the lack of it. (Gosh, it's the beach, what did I expect?) The food though is worth your journey. I'm not sure if they are still a 24/7 establishment but I do know you can have a decent breakfast at 6:30 AM if you're in the area. AND parking is plentiful. I think this city comes to life after 9AM... This visit brought me breakfast. I had their coffee cake muffin and it hit the spot after a long plane ride. My travel partner had the Avo toast and the bonus was 2 eggs instead of 1. Something about the POS system not being updated to correct it to 1 egg. Go figure! I'll make it a point to try their lunch one day as I remember it to be good, filling and priced right. Inside booth and counter seats available. Outdoor patio dining available also. This place is decent and the burgers aren't bad. It's possibly comparable to a norms diner with breakfast and burger foods. The burgers are large portions and you can choose a side with it. It's not something special or notable but it's a good place to come for a casual outing with friends. We were a large group of 6 and able to get seated at the table fairly quickly. Our waitress was polite and efficient. I ordered the Kettle burger and my friend got a salad. The others ordered different burgers as well. The french fries were okay. I would give the burger a B+. I was curious about the pasta but didnt see from other yelper reviews that it was popular. Burgers seem to be the main favorite with the locals. Stellar service from Nirvana. She was super accommodating and asked all the right questions to get our order exactly the way we wanted. It was not busy at 11 on a Monday, and still a bit cool for patio dining, so we sat inside in a corner booth. Promptly greeted and brought drinks. I started with a decaf coffee with cream, half and half cups were on the table but our super server offered to bring a pitcher from the fridge if I preferred. Husband ordered an OJ which was HUGE. I was excited to see the hangover scramble with green chilies, eggs and cheese. When I asked for the bacon on the side, Nirvana offered to get strips of bacon to give to my husband since I can't eat the pork. That was awesome for him to not eat the little pieces of chopped bacon that normally comes with this dish. Then when I asked if it came with potatoes as well as corn tortillas because I have to avoid potatoes, she said, "Yes it does, would you rather have fruit?" I was very excited not to find an upcharge on my bill for the perfect fruit side substitution. In a tourist area, some operators take advantage of upcharges and that is not the case here. Honest local business, bravo! The hangover scramble also included an entire half an avocado sliced on top. With three eggs, fruit, corn tortillas, avocado and cheese, I was unable to finish all of my meal. Spouse got the Pancake Breakfast with sausage and sunny side up eggs. They were perfectly prepared. Fortunately, there is a paid parking structure nearby. If you can get past that inconvenience, you are well on your way to a heart, tasty meal. I always go for the breakfast, but if it's any indication about the quality of the rest of the menu, dine any time. There isn't anything special about the ambiance itself, but if you can get outdoor seating, well, that in and of itself is a treat. You're walking distance to the beach so you can take in the ocean air and you get a great seat for people watching. The menu has it's basics, and there's something for most anyone. What stood out to me was the offer of egg whites only and chicken sausages. But, most importantly, they have great muffins. I went with the coffee cake muffin. I've always passed by this place and finally got around to checking this place out. It's pretty old-school inside as far as the interior goes with the decor and diner-style ambiance. The restaurant is deceptively big and we were seated immediately for a weeknight dinner. I got the Highlander burger which came with fries and I was pretty happy overall. The burger was juicy and the cheese was melted perfectly onto the patties. I would say that the fries are a little oily and a tad too salty. I also got to try the braised pot roast dip as a melt and it was packed with meat. However, the au jus sauce makes it way too salty.. it's challenging because you want to dip the sandwich in the sauce but I couldn't handle the saltiness. read more

The kettle will always have a special place in my heart because I've been going here for years. The food is great and they have the best muffins. The service has been good and they try to get you in as fast as they can. The restaurant is on the corner and not far from the beach. We've been coming here for years. I know in the summer it gets super busy but it's not okay for our server to touch my toast with their hands then put in the toaster then grab again with his bare hands to put our toast on a plate. What happened to using tongs or a glove when touching someone's food? We watched our server then grab other patrons dirty dishes then handing them their bill and touching our toast right after all of this. Of course we did not eat our toast . Open late, my husband and I decided to dine here for a late dinner after watching the LMU basketball game. Upon entering the restaurant it was a bit on the dimmed side in terms of lighting. A lot seating for tables and chairs and booths along the side if the restaurant next to the windows. We were seated immediately and ordered the Chinese chicken salad for my husband and I was craving a simple breakfast entree so ordered 3 pancakes with egg whites and sausage. However, I was curious about their chicken tortilla soup, so decided to order a cup of that too. Our order came out in a timely manner which was great because we were starving. Husband said his salad was ok. Was a little disappointed that there was no mandarin oranges in the salad. My breakfast order was delicious. It satisfied my craving so I was happy and the chicken tortilla soup was yummy as well. Thank God it was not salty! Our server was very pleasant and checked up on us reasonably and not to the point where it was annoying like how some other servers do. Came here for lunch after a nice stroll in the beach. We got lucky and got a table outside on a nice sunny day. It was a nice patio area. The service was very good. The food was as so tasty. I ordered the Kettle burger and the turkey vegetable soup. My friend ordered the blackened salmon and salad. They were such good portions we were both full. Tried out The Kettle as the reviews looked promising. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict, which came with fruit or you can opt for a small juice instead. I didn't get a photo of the fruit plate, but it included a blackberry, honeydew melon, watermelon, and pineapple. The order came fairly quickly. I enjoyed the crab cakes. I actually finished them as well as potatoes. The hollandise sauce was too lemony for me, but adding Choula and Tabassco helped with the flavor. Highly recommend for a brunch spot! read more

Food what happened to service at the kettle? We went there for breakfast at 10 PM today and ordered eggs. Benedict didn't ask us how we wanted. Our eggs brought them back asked him to please remake them. My one egg was broken and they threw them back on the grill and served them that way they weren't done, medium. It was just horrible and disappointing. Didn't ask us what kind of potatoes we wanted if we wanted to substitute the muffins are not even as good as they used to be they look like something from outer space. of course the ambience is there because they're not far from the beach but management has dropped to a new low as the servers have to our server. Was Chris totally un knowledgeable about egg preparation or potatoes or substitutes didn't offer anything very disappointing you guys can do a lot better. I don't know what happened to the baking but the muffins we ordered three each of the brand and they look like spaceships. It didn't even look like a muffin so disappointing. Well It all started when the hostess told us to wait outside. 2 things to mention, one, there was only 1 couple waiting for a table, second, there was a baby stroller parked in the area by the door, which I questioned. She asked questions I guess my wife asking questions turned out to be a big ordeal, the hostess immediately ran to a supervisor (outside on the patio) Where the supervisor came in directly to us. Afterwords. She made suggestions that we were going to be refused service due to my wife's "cussing" Define cussing She never said a word that would be not allowed on mainstream media. Her statement, how she pretty much took the hostess's view without any discussion With us, I kinda knew where this was going. I decided we aren't going to eat here. Then the supervisor said that other tables were worried about the whole issue. Which was complete BS. I watched the whole thing, she was on the patio and came straight to us. How would she know that other patrons were disturbed? This all happened in less than 2 minutes. Obviously she didn't take the time to talk to them so this was a standard response. So I stood up and said if you're gonna have this type of response then I'm not gonna eat here due to not knowing what's gonna happen to the food we eat. She responded saying that nothing would happen to our food Really? who is supervising that? Which I suppose is another Standard response but I think we know what unhappy workers do unknowingly to the food behind the counter.
