Enjoyed carrot apple slaw on the side to sort of balance out my indulgent clam roll. My husband enjoyed the fish tacos. He offered me a bite, but I was too busy obsessing over my clams to even accept. He said the tacos were fantastic. During the summer months this appears to be a 100% outdoor seating. That brought me to "The knack" in Orleans, MA for an avocado double cheese burger with sautéed onions and "burger sauce", and thin-style onions rings. The knack is an upscale order at a window burger, dog, seafood sandwich, fry and ring joint. They had a covered seating area. Service was impressively fast given that people seemed to be getting their knack fix before they close for the season. Loved the burger and rings. For thinner style burger patties, they were surprisingly juicy. The large avocado piece tasted fresh. The sautéed onions were flavorful. I ordered a double and the bun had a tough time containing the ingredients. The onion rings were well breaded. I could have used a bit more seasoning, but the house Comeback-type dipping sauce made up for it. One might say they have a knack for making good food. This is my go to spot for fresh fish and lobster rolls. Recently, we found out they make their own ice cream sandwiches. We stopped in and had a brownie cookie with housemade vanilla ice cream. If you're looking for "real" food that's a fair price and ready quickly, then this is the place! The woman at the window was pleasant, which we don't always find at restaurants around here. We ordered fish tacos and a double cheeseburger, and they were pretty much ready by the time I was done using the restroom. The tacos were just right - nice pieces of seasoned white fish, some sort of slaw on soft corn tortillas. Two was plenty for me. The fried fish (haddock) sandwich was the highlight, one of the best I've encountered - super fresh and flaky, not too heavy on the batter, complimented with both cucumber and pickle. The lobster roll and fish tacos (some spice on the fish) were also tasty. The food was prepared quickly (under 15 minutes), and the outdoor seating area was clean (someone wiped the tables down after each table finished). I stumbled upon The Knack during a search for "the best cheap clam roll" Cape Cod has to offer. The Knack does sell clam rolls but, In reading the menu, I found that I couldn't get further than the Ring Burger It's moniker is derived from the onion ring it rests upon, but do not be fooled by its unassuming name. It is also served with a fresh bakery bun, bacon, cheese, and a special horseradish infused sauce, which along with the onion ring, are served are the best grill shack burger (thick , flavorful, and cooked in the mythical sweet spot between under and over done) I have eaten in years. Biked here from South Dennis for lunch (about 5 minutes off the Cape Cod Rail Trail). This is a great place to have a sit down lunch especially if the weather is nice. Items ordered: Lobster roll - $18 as of 8/2019 - Fresh and delicious. Size is about right for the price. Ring burger - $7.50 for a single patty - The sauce they had combined with the cheese made for one tasty burger. Can be a bit messy with the sauce they add Onion rings - $5.00 - Definitely a must have if you enjoy onion rings. I really like these lightly breaded onion rings as it doesn't feel as heavy as the beer battered versions. Next time we're in the area I'd definitely like to give the shakes and other items a try! After 25 (almost) years of life, I finally make it down to Cape Cod. I go for my bike ride, and then I decide it's time to get some food. This was the first place that popped up, so I decided why the heck not? Do be advised this is an outdoors only restaurant, but if the weather's nice why not? Anyways, I had ordered a single classic cheeseburger and the fries (they were kind enough to allow me a half portion, but this is not a standard menu item), and a single classic cheeseburger. Heed my words: McDonald's could take lessons on fries from these folks. Cooked to absolute perfection with just the right amount of crispness outside, without it being a potato chip (inside was still soft). Furthermore, they got the seasoning just perfect, No need to add salt or pepper, ketchup certainly, but I don't think that counts. The Classic Cheeseburger was alright. To best describe this imagine Five Guys, only with the kitchen having a [somewhat] bad day. In terms of what I liked: the beef was cooked well and still managed to preserve a little bit of juiciness. The bread was of surprisingly good quality, and overall the burger was assembled without haste. In terms of what could use improvement: I felt that the whole thing very soon became rather moist, bringing up the need for it to be finished with a fork and knife. Furthermore, the veggies got somewhat lost in the moistness... I like a little bit of crunch in my burgers and it was either a no show, or ran off with a bad case of stage fright. Especially for an outdoor location, it was clean, as were the toilets. However, the area where you push to open that door was a bit sticky. I'm also really a fan of the free parking and the fact that they have water cups, especially ones that are of appropriate size, and not what I use for Listerine in the mornings. read more
