For our weekly lunch, my best buddy and I, drove on over to "the hanger" in Long Beach. If you haven't been here it is a very pleasant open indoor space stuffed with dining options. We were intrigued by the menu of our destination. The combination of real Poutine and Wagu Smashburgers was so over-the-top! We were not disappointed. The burger was unctuous and indulgent rich and messy. The poutine was the perfect combination of crispy fries, gravy and cheese curds. I had the chicken parm sandwich which was equally delicious. Located in the The Hanger at LBX, the Kroft serves up a great version of poutine...hearty, large, and very satisfying. My wife and I were in the Hangar food hall to check out a different restaurant, and needed to find something my wife would enjoy. I hadn't done much pre-reading, so didn't really know what to expect (I had a vague thought that a Filipino-inspired restaurant was here, but must have gotten it confused with a different food hall). So I was walking around, looking at menus, until I came the Kroft's, serving 'Loaded Fries". We had visited Vancouver earlier this year, and had found some great variations of Canada's 'National Dish'. The common ingredients in a poutine are the french fries, brown gravy, and cheese curds. Prices were very reasonable, and had some interesting variations. I ended up choosing the Braised Beef ($13.95). After paying, I was asked for a cell number which would get paged once the poutine was ready for pick-up. They make it fresh, so took about 10 minutes....they saw me waiting, so just called me over as soon as it was ready...nice personalized service. The poutine was really good. The french fries were 'chip' style (thicker than shoestring but thinner than steak), and there was plenty of it. The beef was the kind in pot roast, very tender. It also had a lot of cooked, fresh mushrooms, and pickled red onions (which I like separate but not as part of this dish). The brown gravy was different than what you would make from a jar or from a seasoning packet, more like what the drippings from preparing the pot roast would yield (for me, the more typical brown gravy would have been better in this dish). It was easily enough for the the two of us (we didn't want to take any home since it's not really a dish the reheats well). There were other variations I would like to try as well. They have a great pork dip sandwich, chicken parm sandwich and practically anything you order is delicious. When you order, your order will be notified through a text. On the greasier end, but what can you expect for a gut-buster like The Kroft? I've visited the Anaheim location a couple of times and tried LB's last weekend. Had a really good cheese steak here, don't get me wrong a cheese steak is good just about anywhere but the fact that they added garlic and it really improved an already great sandwich makes me want to drive down there again. But the real star was the classic poutine fries. I'm not Canadian so I don't have a lot of options of getting poutine so I was happy to find the Kroft. Since it was at the hanger the service was walk up, but they take your number and will page you when your meal is ready and it was quick which is was nice as I was hungry. The hanger is crowed and loud so if the weather is nice it is best to sit outside. read more

Im in this area often and I love the Hangar because there are so many food options. I decided to try something new this time around, The Kroft, which is located in the left corner of the Hangar if you enter from the front. They have a pretty decent menu ranging from burgers and sandwiches to poutines and specials. There's also a wide selection of drinks, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. I know they specialize in poutine here but their burgers looked too good to pass up! I got the double wagyu cheeseburger and made it a combo with garlic aioli sauce on the side for the fries. I was disappointed when I got home to find that they forgot to give me the garlic aioli . Nonetheless, the food did not disappoint. The wagyu burger was amazingly cheesy and beefy! Each bite brought so much joy -- it hit all the right spots while not feeling so heavy for a burger. The fries were pretty good too I just wish I had my sauce with it! I know it was an accident though because the person who rang me up was super sweet and kind. Service was really quick! There was plenty of seating outside and the ambiance was nice. Now as far as the food was concerned it was not great. I guess for the price I paid I was expecting to be wowed. I was not. The burger was bland and so were the fries. The burger needed seasoning and there was little sauce. I did not enjoy the burger combo. The fries didn't even have salt or any seasoning. When I go to the LBX Hangar/FoodHall, The Kroft is the spot I most frequently visit. The vibe is family friendly. Their menu just hits on that savory, satisfying level every time. My latest visit on 11/28 was no different. I headed to Kroft and ordered one of their Spicy Jack Smashburgers. The smashburgers are new to their menu, and come in three varieties--Original, Spicy Jack, and Pulled Pork. I have had the Original, I still need to try the Pulled Pork version. All come with two wagyu beef patties perfectly cooked. The Spicy Jack has a great spicy sauce, two slices of spicy jack cheese, bacon, and grilled mushrooms, just a great blend of savory and heat in every bite( cost around $15). This time was just as great as before. I should also note that the service there is great, I've always been helped quickly and pleasantly from all the staff, always offered a water cup, whether or not I've ordered a drink with my sandwich. I also recommend trying the French Dip sandwich with the au jus dipping sauce. And the cheeseburger egg rolls are addicting! I get the 3 pc order cuz after having 2, you want just one more. I initially came to The Kroft at the LBX for a Yelp event, so I knew it was good. This time around I got the cheese steak and it was great. It was unique and delightful in its own way, not the OG style from Philly with yellow cheese! The highlight was the potato roll which was super light and soft, there was a nice mix of onions and Swiss cheese, which helped boost the overall flavor. It satisfied my cheese steak craving, I also suggest trying the Wagyu Smash Burger which I had last time, excellent also. They have and adequate beer selection or fountain drink machine to wash it all down with. You can expect fast/friendly service and they have a text notice for when your food is ready. read more
