Reading the less-than-five-star reviews for this place makes me laugh. A lot of people have literally rated the restaurant terribly because they had to wait! In my opinion, if you have to wait to get a seat, 9 times out of 10 that means it's worth it! (And this place is worth it!) One reviewer made it seem like the restrooms were INSIDE the kitchen... Nope! Some reviewers complain about the price of the sandwiches. To me, their sandwiches are worth every penny! These things are enormous; enough to eat one half there, and the other half as a snack or meal later. They have seasonal and monthly specials, and include many locally-sourced ingredients in their dishes. In fact, most of their bread and dessert selections come from Crust, a Fenton-based bakery down the street. I've never had a meal here that I didn't LOVE, and the cocktail menu is impressive. The bartenders concoct their very own unique & interesting libations that you don't see on regular drink menus. There is a huge roster of different sandwiches to choose from, plus awesome brunch and salad choices as well. If you're vegan or vegetarian, they've got many options for you, too! I've wanted to eat dinner here for years. I had to head into Flint, so I took a detour at lunch to try this place out. I had the Ruben and a cup of their cabbage soup. The Ruben was really good. It was huge. The soup was suppose to come out first, but I had to ask for it after my sandwich came out. The cabbage soup was WAY to salty so I had to send it back. Parking isn't fun there either. I parked two and a half blocks away. The hostess said to the couple in front of me, how can I help you? The man said, by getting better parking. Lol. He must have parked further than I did. There are two main rooms. The room I was in was very loud but pleasant. When I come back for dinner I'll have to ask for the other room. It did not seem to be as loud. I will be back. read more

My girlfriend and I were shopping at this cute little town where this restaurant resides and decided to stop here for lunch. It was so busy, had to wait about 40 minutes then we were lucky to get seated outside. We both ordered the Caesar Salad and it was amazing. Then we HAD to get dessert, which I must say was the best part of my day. I ended up purchasing several other deserts for my husband, however I needed to try them so I could let you know how absolutely mouthwatering they are. Homer Simpson moment.... I LOVE THE LAUNDRY!!! I have been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they are all SO GOOD! My personal favorite time to come here is for breakfast, because their bacon & brie pancakes are OUT OF THIS WORLD! It has been a while since I've been The Laundry though - this was my first time since the pandemic. We placed an order online for breakfast, which included a very limited menu from their normally full breakfast menu, which didn't include the pancakes, but that allowed me a chance to try something different for the first time in a long time! I tried the Eggbert in the Club breakfast sandwhich, which is possibly the most delicious sandwich I've ever eaten! It was a smoked chicken salad with egg, bacon (seriously yummy bacon), avocado, tomato, and whatever sauce they add to it. It is truly heavenly and even though The Laundry is 40 minutes away from me, I'm seriously thinking about how to get back there SOON because I am craving that sandwich again SO HARD! During the pandemic, you place an order ahead of time and then go to their carryout side door to pick up your order. It's quick - in and out - within a minute. During non-pandemic times, there is often a long wait if you don't get to The Laundry right when they open for breakfast, but trust me when I say it's worth it! The Laundry is awesome, definitely the type of place you want to support! I'm not a huge drinker, but liked ALL of the five we ordered. They were so smooth...you could taste the alcohol but didn't suffer the punch from it. The seltzer with gin, rosemary and raspberry was my favorite. Love the vegan options, plentiful non-alcoholic options, salads, pastas, fish, varied price ranges, etc. But the very best part of our last visit was our server, J. Management, give this person a RAISE! We were blown away by their inviting demeanor, positive attitude, and attention to detail. My boyfriend, his sister, and I met up at The Laundry as a halfway point between our cities (Saginaw/Detroit). Because of the distance, we don't see each other much, so it was a rather long visit. We specifically wanted a dinner menu item and unfortunately we're about 20 min too early, so we got drinks while we were waiting. Seeing that J was likely finishing up the brunch shift and we were their only table, we offered to check out with the drinks and get a new server for our meal. J refused and kept reassuring that they were there for us. I figured maybe J would get more tables if he stayed, but it didn't look like they were assigned any other than us. After we finished our meals, we again offered to pay so that they did not have to wait around or get us drinks if we decided on another round. J said 'no thanks' and continued helping us, never making us feel as though we were a nuisance. My SIL & I have both worked in food service and know that your last table keeping you from leaving can be a huge bummer. I would've definitely left and passed my table on if I was J! J was wonderful for staying a little over two hours just for us - amazing. I will feel guilty about it for the rest of my life, haha If anyone at The Laundry is reading this, please let J know that we actually were meeting up because we got some pretty terrible news about my SIL's health. The avocado toast was off the charts - the texture of the cinnamon swirl pancakes is thick doughy goodness; they didn't even need syrup. I loved the black beans in the hash; the egg drizzle from the perfectly poached egg was precisely what I was looking for this AM The nutty professor was great highly recommended. Just like Napa's iconic French Laundry, The Laundry in Fenton, Michigan doesn't launder shirts or do dry cleaning. To those in the know, The Laundry is a highly regarded European-inspired purveyor of New American cuisine, craft cocktails and hard-to-find craft brewskis on multiple taps. Located 15 minutes south of the often-maligned City of Flint, Fenton is a gem of a community of 11,000 residents and easy access from State Rt. 23. We live an hour from Flint/Fenton so until yesterday, when we had business in the Flint area, we had not had the opportunity to experience and review The Laundry. In line with state safety guidelines, the restaurant is currently operating at 50% capacity. It was my mission to walk through the restaurant to get a sense for the ambiance and pickup our carryout order. The Restaurant sits on a corner lot in an attractive neighborhood with both residential and commercial properties. Parking is somewhat limited on the one-way street directly behind the restaurant. I chose to use the front entrance, rather than the convenient carryout door so I could get a sense for the restaurant's atmosphere. I knew I was in the affable Midwest as I was warmly greeted by a welcoming staff of hostesses awash with genuine smiles. One hostess volunteered to walk me through the restaurant and bar for photo opportunities in route to the carryout counter. I loved The Laundry's casual and eclectic Bistro atmosphere. The main dining room, with its multi-colored skylight panes, is bathed in natural light. It is set up with what looked like a variety of mostly mid-century tables and chairs that give it a cool retro feel. The bar, which offers 100 classic as well as house cocktails with multiple craft beer taps, is spectacular. For our carryout order, we started with the individual-sized Petite Michigan Salads overflowing with fresh fruits and veggies and complimented with their house made Maple Balsamic Dressing (it is every bit as good as it sounds). For my entree, I chose the daily special which was an 8 oz. wild-caught Corvina filet served on a bed of coconut rice, butter-braised broccolini and topped with a Goan curry sauce. It was a fabulous and flavorful combo with a warm kick and it far exceeded my expectations. My wife chose the Sesame Crusted Halibut filet, pan-seared and served on a bed of crab fried rice, steamed baby bok chow with a tasty lime and coconut beurre blanc. Again, another huge winner of an entree! We also ordered a third entree to share and sample - the Penne alla Norma. It was a delicious whole-wheat penne pasta tossed in a rich tomato sauce with roasted eggplant, red onion, grape tomatoes and fresh basil garnished with sopraffina ricotta cheese. Boom...another 5-star entree! We finished by sharing the Peanut Butter Bliss, just the perfect combo of a creamy peanut butter-chocolate treat. The Laundry in Fenton, MI is the real thing. You've got to love their mission of making every meal a special occasion for their guests with spectacular service and the highest quality food. As we bump up against the start of March Madness, The Laundry gets a "Nothing but Net" 5 stars. read more

WORTH the long wait and 120 MILE ROUND TRIP. Our first of many visits to come. We grabbed a seat at the bar after 1 hour. I want to praise the 2 ladies behind the bar today. They were spot on with their drink and food suggestions . They were attentive, very personable and never missed a beat. Seasoned steak cut into strips with fingerling yellow potatoes, sautéed onions and cherry tomatoes, with a sunny side egg on top. We really can't fault this place for atmosphere. It's lively, casual and trendy. And our server was outstanding. But the food is (a) absurdly overpriced and (b) average at best. The menu makes everything sound like a culinary masterpiece. But the reality is quite different. My wife ordered the grilled dorade fillet glazed with a lemon-honey sauce and garnished with fresh horseradish. $30 plus another $6 for a small side salad. The fish fillet was rather small and, quite frankly, bland. No hint of the honey lemon sauce could be detected. I ordered the Mediterranean Burger...their proprietary beef patty grilled with thyme compound butter on a grilled onion roll with olive & roasted tomato tapenade, feta cheese, fresh arugula, and housemade gremolata mayo. Served with housemade chips.... $19.50 Sounds good right? I figured for $19.50 it had to be! Well first, it was served at room temperature. I asked that the patty be prepared medium rare. But not room temp. Even after sending my plate back to the oven to be warmed I can only say my dish was underwhelming. read more

I visited here on New Years Day after a long night of working NYE. I had a pleasant experience from the time I arrived to the time I left. The hostess was friendly and welcoming and the server was pleasant and great with suggestions. I ordered a coffee and she recommended, well, basically a coffee flight. It was the best thing I had all week and the perfect start to my day. The flavors were impeccable and definitely something I recommend keeping. The manager was even friendly while checking in. I definitely recommend their pull apart bread and their Michigan salad. All of it was perfectly paired with French onion soup. I am grateful for the service I received that day. We got there at 11:30am and weren't actually eating our meal until 1:15. There are a few stores you can kill time visiting in Downtown Fenton, but it's not exactly a metropolis. Their sandwiches are large, very filling and tasty (I'd recommend the Spicy Scott, which has more going on than the Georgia Reuben), but nothing too special. To avoid the confusion with the other French Laundry (although they had the name longer) the restaurant changed it to the Laundry. The restaurant was a former laundry mat. I love how much character this restaurant has. Everyone was so friendly, so it made the experience even better. Since my boyfriend and I had dinner plans, we decided to share a cheese platter and a few cocktails. The cheese platter was huge! 3 cheese selections, 1 meat, 1 cheese dip, nuts, fruit, and jam. The bread is freshly made as well. We decided to get some soup as well and ended up with leftovers. I love the cocktails. The nutty Irishman was so yummy. Time for an update. Sadly it went down drastically since my first stellar review. The last 3 times I've been here I've left wishing we hadn't bothered. Sad because this restaurant was amazing. I waited to update thinking maybe it was an off night. Apparently I was wrong since it consistently is happening. Last visit, my burger was raw. They threw it back on the grill twice and then it was hard as a brick! The manager took it off the bill. You never re-cook something and expect it to taste good. Tonights visit- Let's start with service. Wow, has that went downhill. Our server was completely disrespectful, unhelpful, forgetful and downright argumentative. Tonight we were in for my daughter's birthday. Our server literally argued with me on several occasions. That should never occur! First disputing a dish I order every single time stating it has ingredients in it that it didn't. Which after he realized he was talking about a different dish he realized I was correct. Then telling me not to order the Chicken I wanted to order because it is always dry and overcooked and he doesn't even order it anymore. Then he brought my cocktail out without ice or the other ingredients I requested. Who wants a warm cocktail? No biggie, I asked for some. Which he never brought out or the other ingredients I requested. So we went to the bar ourselves. Mind you it was dead tonight. So there should be no reason for any of this. Next up, the food. My husband asked for a certain bread they always have and always serve. Our server said he wasn't sure they had it cut and that he couldn't cut it if it wasn't...ummm why not? We could see it in the window across from our table. It was 7:00 and they were open until 11:00. For my entree, I ordered the Filet. Medium because in the past they have undercooked things and I wanted to avoid any possible issues. Well, that didn't help. It came out rare! The whole table agreed. So did our server who said yeah that's really undercooked let me take that for you. Then he brought back the same steak I had cut into that they threw back on the grill. Anyone who knows steak, knows that's a huge no-no! It just overcooks it. So now the edges were medium well/well and the middle medium. But on top of that, he brought it out and stated to us that we were wrong. It wasn't as undercooked as we thought when he brought it back to the kitchen in different light! Are you serious? There was no lighting problem in the room we were in. Rare, not cooked steak can clearly be seen. This is not a dimly lit restaurant with candles to see by. It wasn't even medium rare but rare in the middle. We were completely shocked by his attitude and defensiveness. I honestly can't even believe the audacity. Lastly- We brought a cake in for my daughter's birthday. Having very strict allergies that the restaurant can't accommodate I brought my own. Usually I call, but with a busy week I completely forgot. We tried to order from Crust earlier that week (the bakery they own) but they could not accommodate us. So I had to bring one so I could join in the celebration. Unfortunately, the manager or whoever she was, came by to tell us that we weren't allowed to have our cake that was sitting on the table. It was against regulations and health code. I've brought cakes to so many restaurants without issues this year alone. I'm not sure what special permits these other restaurants possess that this restaurant doesn't but maybe they should get one of the can't accommodate food allergies in this day and age. So I didn't get to share the cake we paid for with my daughter and drove an HR to pick up beforehand. They did however bring out Gluten free cheesecake free of charge. However, I'm not just Gluten free, so I still couldn't eat it. When I tried to order a cocktail and needed to try the Gin because they didn't have the one I usually stick with, they couldn't give us a tiny taste so I could make sure I liked it. Look, I wasn't looking for a hand out or a free shot here. Just to make sure I ordered what I liked. I dine out all the time. Never once have I been told this! That they only do beer and wine samples. Honestly, I'm sad to be writing this when my last review was so favorable. However, I can't ignore the past few visits or everything that went on tonight and the fact that we had to deal with any of this while just trying to have a decent night out and celebrate our daughters birthday. Unless I'm starving and have no where else to eat. We won't be coming back! It's just not worth the money or the hassle to be treated this way. read more

Hands down best restaurant we've been to in years. Service has been exceptional every time we've been there and I've usually been blown away and never disappointed at a dish - got equal size and quality of meals whether we were just before closing or during the busiest dinner hours. Cocktails are creative, tasty, and surprisingly not overly complex to the point that you lose individual flavors. Portions are perfect - not wasteful, and they don't leave you wondering if you did indeed just eat. We loved it so much after our first visit on a Friday that we went back on Sunday, and the next week, and bring all our visitors up (from Howell). We've been back almost weekly since and never had a bad experience. read more

What a cute place! I absolutely loved this spot in the quaint little downtown area of Fenton. Unique vibe with the decor, plenty of indoor/outdoor seating and an amazing menu to choose from. I went with a friend who had been there before so I knew that everything is shareable size. The sandwiches and salads are HUGE! I also love that they still serve breakfast during lunch hours. Our server was nice but our meal did take quiet a while to come out (only reason for the 4 stars). My sandwich was delicious and everyone loved their food.
