My rating is based in the service, since I never got far enough to taste the food. I was traveling from Kauai to NY and stopped over at the Daniel K Inoyue Airport. I found the menu for this restaurant while walking around and was interested in grabbing something to eat. The restaurant wasn't too packed and when someone greeted me after a minute of being there, they had asked how many were looking to grab a seat. I mentioned one BUT I asked if I could take the food to go instead. I had wanted to go back to the gate to be sure I had enough time to board. The worker told me that I could go to the food court to grab food there instead, since there were to-go options there. I was thrown off by the suggestion. I could understand if there weren't any to-go containers and maybe that's why that wasn't an option. If that were the case, I would understand. Instead, I felt like the fact I had asked was looked down upon. Then, the worker didn't even wait to see if I was interested in possibly eating in after all. They walked away. A couple behind me heard some of the exchange and asked me to clarify what the discussion was about. I mentioned that I asked if I could take the food to go and was told to go to the nearby food court. They understand that life's experiences are to be savored, and not rushed. Once you're on board with this, you find yourself no longer angry when your Tropical Itch is not delivered within the same 3 minutes that you order it. It's a good thing, people. Relax. Hubby had the pizza, which he really liked. It was a bit small for the price, however, and came with absolutely nothing else. I had the Kalua pork sandwich, because it came with fries. They also offer Kalua sliders on the appetizer menu, but...no fries. It comes with a side of what looks like ketchup, but in fact is BBQ sauce for the sandwich. Not the best sauce, but better than no sauce. The pork was pretty good, but certainly not a contender for the best. The music was good - they played a mix of stuff we hadn't heard in 20 years along with the latest hits. Obviously, eating outside the airport before you arrive for your flight is preferred, but The Local offers several types of comfort food if you're hungry. Decided to eat here after seeing the menu, which had lots of nice island dishes with local ingredients. The atmosphere was very nice as well. When the waitress told us to find a table and sit down, we asked her to clean a dirty table with a nice view of the gardens, and she told us they were understaffed and she would get to it shortly. We cleaned the table ourselves and sat down. When she brought plates and napkins, some of the napkins were DIRTY. The pineapple chicken quesadillas were great, but that's about it. Ahi poke was decent but the avocado was missing, and it took us 20 minutes to get a small cup of 3 avocado slices. The nachos were stale, and the steak overdone. This place appears to formally be the now gone Kona Brewing Co. spot at the airport. They serve Kona beers and have their logos all over the restaurant but it goes by this new name. I decided to give this place a try because California Pizza Kitchen was entirely out of salads & sandwiches. I was initially put off by their poor reviews, but decided to give it a shot anyway. I sat at the bar and was helped quickly by an older gentleman. I ordered the Cobb Salad & a tall beer, both of which came out quickly, enabling me to eat a meal & finish my beer with plenty of time to spare before my flight. The salad was very good, with quality ingredients well proportioned. It may seem like the waitresses are busy, but then you sit down at look around, they aren't busy. The restaurant isn't that busy. We came here with a few customers watching television. My husband got fish tacos, which he said was good, but the wings I got were cold! Ironic? I got cold hot wings... Never checked on us, got our order, dropped it off, and never came back. Not a bad choice when you're at Honolulu Airport. They have typical pub fare with a bit of Hawaiian flare such as Kalua Pork and Kona Brewing Co. beer on draught. The food is tasty and the portion sizes are decent. The price does tend to be a bit high but that is what you'd expect at an airport. To save a bit, try one of their appetizers as your main meal. The size is good and you'll save between $5-10. I had the pork sliders this time and I've had the chicken wings several other trips and both are quite good. Definitely try this place! Good experience & good food. :) We had the mahi tacos & the local burger. The mahi tacos were good, they had sweet marinated onions and a good sauce. Would have them again. The Local Burger was a great classic burger & good job chef for making me a perfect medium rare burger! It had a great grill charred flavor, just enough to make it taste authentic. I would definitely have this burger again! For beer we had the Koko Brown, it has a great toasted coconut finish and was delicious! Highly recommend. Ask for a taste first if you are unsure. For service, our server was very nice & remembered everything we ordered. She had the whole back half of the restaurant so she was running all over. If you are pushed for time, maybe sit at the bar. I am giving it four stars since it is part of an airport and for airport food/environment it is good quality. We got a couple drinks and based on reviews in other airport spots we noticed that they try to add a shot to a drink and charge $16. Here they asked first if we want a shot and told us it would be $16 total when we asked how much. Still expensive. I had the aloha chicken sandwich and it was pretty good. The teriyaki sauce was so good that we asked for some extra. Bloody Mary was average and Mai tai was good. One down side was that we sat at the bar and either the dishwasher was broke or they do all their glasses for the restaurant at the bar in front of us. Would recommend they change that. If I could give less than 1 star I would. We went here before a flight and our waitress was extremely rude. We had asked her several times for more water and she didn't even acknowledge the question so we assumed she just didn't hear us. When she got closer to the table we asked again and she whipped around and rudely said "I heard you, okay? I will be right there you just need to wait a minute!" It was not only rude especially given she didn't acknowledge she heard us the first time but embarrassing in front of a restaurant full of people. The food was not the best, sandwich tasted soggy, pizza tasted worse than frozen pizza. I would rather go to one of the fast food places and receive better and faster service. I have eaten at this restaurant under it's old name and was hoping the name change had brought improvement. The name change brought name change only. I've been going to this restaurant for years when it was called "Stinger Rays" and then "Kona Brewing Company". I have a custom of getting a kalua pork sandwich and a mai tai; my last taste of aloha before hopping on a plane to the Mainland. The food and drinks used to be pretty good. Things changed with The Local. The food is nowhere as good as they used to be. The kalua pork meat had no flavor. It did not taste like kalua pork. It was shredded pork drowned in barbecue sauce. My girlfriend ordered a burger cooked medium. The patty was dry. It's as if the meat was cooked in advance and reheated in a microwave. I hope The Local considers going back to how the food should be prepared. The customer service was excellent, very nice wait staff. read more

It took forever for the waitress to take our order and bring our drinks. We asked for some dressing for the salad and it never came. Other customers would actually go over to the waitress while she was elsewhere and complain that they needed something. We asked for the check halfway through the meal knowing she was slow, and it took her 15 minutes to get us cashed out. Way too slow for any airport restaurant. After nearly a week in Hawaii, when heading home, we decided to have our final meal and a drink in the airport. Unfortunately, we were met by a rude "hostess" and a ridiculous apparent law that unless one is willing to be a guinea pig and has taken the clinical trial jab, then they must have taken ANOTHER covid test while in Hawaii, even after taking the test before entering the state, if there's any hope of eating in a restaurant in this airport, and certainly in this particular one. We understand the woman was just following the apparently ridiculous rules, but her rudeness telling us to tell her where we had been allowed to eat while in Hawaii so she could turn the restaurant into the authorities crossed the line. We then went next door, ordered our food, and sat in the terminal to eat. This was a huge negative to end our trip to Hawaii and especially the attitude of the "hostess" in this establishment. We will likely not return to the state while such ridiculous laws are in place and will certainly never visit this restaurant again. read more
