So, I used to get my hair done by Miranda at this salon ever since I moved to LA. Unfortunately, she moved away, so I made an appointment with another stylist, Erinn. I waited 3 weeks for my appointment (covid problems right?), and went in to go see her. I previously put a coloring conditioner over my hair and it faded out into this weird green color. I tried making small talk with her, asking her if she had seen any crazy quarantine diy hair, to which she replied "no, just bad coloring conditioner hair, no offense." Ok, rude, but I let it go. I didn't really vibe with her because she wasn't really friendly. She tried working on the green color first. After over an hour of waiting with my hair soaking wet in a shampoo bowl, neck straining, and failed attempts; she told me that she could either do my roots or dye my hair brown (which is the opposite of what I came in for). I told her that I'd prefer for her to do my roots. After a little more waiting, she comes back and tells me that if she did my roots that my hair would fry off and she didn't feel comfortable doing it. Now, I wasnt upset about this because if you're not comfortable, you should hold that boundary. I'm upset because she didn't book a consultation with me, wasted about two hours of my day off, and wasn't even nice. Like how are you not even going to try to build rapport with your client? In addition, when she was washing my hair her finger got caught in my earring and tugged on it, and she didn't even apologize. I ended up going to another salon that was closer to where I live, instead of staying loyal to the salon. They were able to get the green out of my hair and do a full highlight like I requested. They told me that it seemed more like she gave up after she couldn't get the green out, but that's none of my business. Per the owners comment: I want to relay the message AGAIN that I wasn't upset that she couldn't do my hair. Per my review, I already said that IF A STYLIST THINKS THEY WILL RUIN SOMEONES HAIR, THEY SHOULD HOLD THAT BOUNDARY. I guess Rosie skipped over that part. I was upset because Erinn was RUDE. She wasn't hospitable at all, and made me feel bad about my hair. No one should be SHAMED while sitting in a colorist's chair or made to feel bad about themselves. It's about having RESPECT and KINDNESS for the person sitting in your chair. read more

Eeek! Methinks not, is right. They raised prices in the last year and since they reopened after covid that amount is almost twice that. $150+ for a single color root touch-up (no blowdry) is crazy expensive. I know the tubes of color are really inexpensive ($14 a tube for Natulique; $2-4 a tube for other brands), what I'm being charged is clearly a huge markup - not even half that tube would be used for a root touchup. I have to go to a different salon now and trial and error new dye colors because my stylist didn't write my color down and doesn't seem to care or want to help me out. Really nice. I spent a ton of money here but you guys lost me as a customer. Even if my income were to miraculously double I still wouldn't come back. Response: You are really truely dishonest. a) You don't "formulate" color - you mix color from the tube with a developer, even your stylist told me that, 2) You did raise prices, which is the subject of the text messages, and it is the reason I am not coming back. $90 (pre-covid)to $150+(post covid) for basic one color root touch up, on a person with like15% gray hair, is almost double. Moreover the stylist told me that I need to respect her new prices and how she hard works. You did indeed jack up prices during a pandemic 3) That's fine. Charge what you want. The decent thing would have been for the stylist to let me know what color shade she uses on me so that I could continue with it at a different salon but even that was apparently too much ("she doesn't write them down"). Spending min $120-200+ everytime I came to the salon, and of course tip plus purchase of hair products, is "a ton" for me btw. You need to also respect your clients, it's a two way street. I send everyone I know to The Local, so I really thought I had a yelp review locked in. Now I must make up for this egregious error. To start off with: Alyssa Kim. She is the best thing to ever happen to my hair. We've trimmed, we've colored and finally we chopped a whole mess of hair off for a transformation Thursday to remember. I have not seriously taken length off my hair since high school because I never trusted anyone to make my extremely fine, straight hair look like anything special. I just had tiny trim after tiny trim after tiny trim. Then there was Alyssa. All I can think of now is what we can experiment with next and how amazing she will inevitably make my hair look. When my mom came out to California to visit from Connecticut, I knew she had to see Alyssa too. If you can imagine my horrible hair anxiety, my mom was even worse. She has had so many people make her hair look great in the salon, only to go home and have flat hair that she can't style. Alyssa showed her everything she was doing and explained what my mom needed and how she could maintain the style at home. My mom has never been happier. I can't share Alyssa with everyone, because if she's doing my hair, she can't do my husbands too. So I booked my husband with the one and only Rosie. Let's revisit hair anxiety for a moment. My husband has had ONE person cut his hair since he was in high school. He refused to see anyone else. This one person happens to not only be an amazing hair stylist, but he's a close friend with a crazy busy schedule. I knew they shouldn't see each other just when my hubby needed a trim so I brought in the Rosie Fiore guns to take over on hair. Guess who is asking for me to book him an appointment again? A friend recommended The Local to my roommate who loved it so much that she prompted me to go. I was able to make a same day appointment and the whole experience was lovely. From the time I walked in the door and was greeted and offered a drink, until I was hugged as I left, everyone was attentive and warm. Let me start by saying I am a huge crier when I get my hair cut. I weep like a baby every time. Until I met Kayleigh!!! Kayleigh has been doing my hair for about two years now and I love it every time. When I got engaged, Kayleigh was the 3rd call I made to make sure she could do my hair on my big day. Kayleigh is the absolute BEST! I am in love with my hair and I will never go to anyone else. I have been "in the process" of going blonde for about a year now. I am a newer client of the salon--I just moved to LA in May (2013) and needed a new colorist. I am a platinum blond and so maintaining my color and getting someone who can really do a good blond (none of that crappy gold, someone I can in to see often often so I don't have horrible outgrowth, etc.) so I did some research before my first appointment. I LOVE this salon. Rosie is amazingly sweet and Sandra D is a true professional at color. She is truly gifted--she knows exactly how to create and maintain color that looks as bright and pretty as I want but it grows out better than any hair color I have had in the more than 20 years I have been coloring my hair. Beautiful salon, friendly staff, family feel. Everyone is laid back, but the quality of the cuts and color are top-notch. I live a pretty far hike from the salon but it's worth the drive! I went here because the reviews were amazing and I fell in love with Kayleigh and her talents just by looking at her Instagram and I knew I had to go there. I can promise you this place is not overrated. I was there for about three hours, but it didn't feel like it because the place was so comforting and friendly. Just had my first experience at The Local Salon and it did not disappoint! The salon itself is great inside- it felt so comfortable and relaxing. I got my hair cut by Sarah and she rocked it! I have trouble getting people to cut my wavy hair in a way that I feel suits me. I definitely didn't have this issue when I came to Sarah- she really knew what to do and gave me some great tips for taking care of my hair and recommend a curl product that has been wonderful to use so far. I saw Susannah for the first time last week and she was amazing. My hair was long and doing a weird pyramid-thing where it just poofed out from my head in a triangle. I showed Susannah some pictures and she gave me a cut that left me with a much more flattering shape. I don't really know how to style my hair at all (don't blow-dry or straighten my hair at home) and I mentioned to Susannah when I was leaving that I doubted I'd be able to get my hair to look nearly as good when I washed it. She went above and beyond by emailing me a week later to check in and see how I was feeling about my hair. No stylist has ever done that before. If you are waiting at all (which rarely ever happens) they will make sure you're comfortable and say hi to you. I've since been back many times. Don't be afraid to hand her the reigns and have her do something different. You will never be disappointed. I'm VERY picky when it comes to my hair - blonde highlights are tricky and not everyone can do the process right. I was referred to Max at The Local by a friend because even though she's new to the biz, she's good with blondes and VERY meticulous. Now that she's done my hair twice - everything from color, cut, and even an updo for an event - I'll tell you she's good at everything! It's a drive for me to get there from Santa Monica but totally worth it. The salon and its staff are also very friendly so it's a nice place to be - not crazy and loud like most salons. The owner Susan even took my order for a chicken salad when they were getting lunch. All around a great experience. And I'm so happy to have found a stylist I love in LA. read more

I love this salon. It's very laid back and very affordable. I use Sandra, who is an amazing stylist for all types of hair, but really spectacular with my curly hair. I knew my hair would be a little damaged by the time I was done but not burnt to a crisp. I had dark, black, hair and wanted highlights. However, when my hair was done being washed during my second session, I had an entire head of blonde. Even as Sandra was blow drying my hair she saw my it was ripping off with every stroke of her brush and yet, she still charged me over $200. I came out of the salon with string like hair. For a while I couldn't even comb through it with my fingers because an embarrassing amount would fall out. I know I probably should've said something right away but like many others after an unhappy haircut, I just left. I'm sure Sandra isn't a bad hair dresser but she did mess up my hair entirely by letting the bleach in for too long just so she could take in another customer while I was under the dryer chair. I'm aware I won't get my money back, or my hair (that I've been trying to grow out for years now), but I can at least leave this so that others know to be more cautious of how hairdressers treat their hair. Don't be afraid to confront them if you're not satisfied. Take it from me, it's best to say you don't like something than having to beg others to fix your damaged, doll like, hair. read more

Kayleigh has been coloring my hair for several months now and it's official: I will not trust anyone else to color my hair! She took me from jet black to the coolest plum-to-violet melt and I ADORE it. When I first went to Kayleigh last August, I told her I wanted to dye my hair a crazy color, but I wanted it to look as natural as possible. And that's exactly what she gave me. If I was born with purple hair, this is how it would look - all the right highlights and lowlights, rather than just straight up unicorn hair. It is awesome and believe it or not, the maintenance is very reasonable. I can't tell you how many compliments I've received on my hair color, even from random strangers off the street. After I had a bad hair coloring experience there, I wrote my first Yelp review and got contacted by Rosie, the owner. I made another appointment, this time with her, and came in to hopefully go from Malibu Barbie to the ombré of my hair fantasies. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience getting my color fixed, and everything I hoped for in my initial appointments was finally realized. Rosie was absolutely amazing, I am totally in love with her. She was the consummate professional and a dream to work with; super thorough in explaining her plans, and made me feel like I was part of the process. I felt like I was in great hands; she is clearly experienced and educated, and I can't recommend her enough. She gave me a ton of tips and guidance for getting the most out of my color, and her humor and warmth made the experience great. My hair is literally a fabulous ombré dream that I have been forcing everyone to look at non stop. My friends were calling me Malibu Barbie, and now they're all dying to copy my 'do, and my husband can't stop saying how much he likes it and how good it looks.
