Loop is multi faced place, in a good way. I have been this place few times and haven't been disappointed yet. You always get excellent service here. Wait stuff is busy but very attentive and jolly. I am a lunch crowd customer of The Loop. If you get there right at noon, expect a crowd, but there is usually space to sit at the bar for small groups at any time during the lunch hours. Specials are always a good bet. My favorite, however, is the Beer Battered Chicken Fingers. They are the best in town and probably most anywhere. Served over a bed of The Loop's seasoned fries and with a side of house made ranch dressing, it just can't be beat! A little pricey at 10 bucks, but quite a treat! I met up here for a quick HH meeting a couple of years ago. I was really rather surprised how easy it was to find parking and how dead the bar actually was. It was 5 o'clock and they had good HH specials and deals going on, so it was actually sort of disconcerting how dead t was. I was worried there was mysteriously something wrong with The Loop that I hadn't realized. Overall, it as great place and enjoyable. The first time I came here the place was completely dead on a Tuesday night. The burger was good. Damn good even. But ever since, boy, what a let down. The crowd is just awful. Ugly people that think they're beautiful and idiot staff who for some reason think that people carrying fake chanel handbags must be the big tippers and therefore deserve service long before anyone else. To top it all off i got extremely ill after 3 beers and the last burger I will ever eat there. The place had potential. The food is delicious. I have enjoyed everything I've had on the menu and I think my favorite thing is the Bookman pizza. During lunch, when it is busy (which is almost always is), service can get a little slow so make sure you book enough time and order quickly. Also, if you are in a large group, establish ahead of time that you would like separate checks - the service has complained about that before. Also, when going on a Friday and Saturday night the have DJs and drinks with the younger downtown group out for a good time. However, though people dance, there isn't room for a decent dance floor. This is purely a FOOD review with some comment about its change at bar time. As an out of town visitor to Minneapolis I was looking for a place with great food and a good place to have a few beers and meet some locals. A number of people I work with recommended the Loop. On a Friday night I came here for dinner and beer around 7:30 pm. Expecting a vibrant restaurant crowd I was shocked to find a basically half full sleepy restaurant. I sat at the bar, ordered a delicious craft beer (can't recall the name) and ordered a delicious buffalo chicken pizza. For the food and service and ambiance I would give this place 5 stars. BUTTT... At exactly 8:30/9 as soon as someone finished eating bus-boys would promptly come by and pick up their tables and chairs. Confused I asked the bartender what was going on...she informed me that they move the tables as soon as people finish eating to get ready for bar night. She advised me that if I got up to use the bathroom after about 9:30 someone would come by and remove by bar-stool while I was gone. 45 minutes later this is exactly what happened. Now I am not complaining about what the bar transformed into - a cool hip place with great music. But I felt the transition was rude, abrasive, and completely uncalled for. If this place wants to be a restaurant thats what it should be - if it wants to be a nightclub bar - thats what it should be. But I found if very difficult to be a customer and sit there watching the restaurant undergo its "nighttime change". I would advise this place to people for late night drinks on a weekend, or a meal during the week, but CERTAINLY not both. read more

Okay, depending on your night scene this place could be a nightmare or a paradise. For me, it's a paradise. They play great jams, have a fun dance floor, and the crowd is great. For those non-dancers (first off why aren't you dancing - dancing heals souls, or something like that), there is room to stand or sit without feeling like you're the only one not dancing (unlike 508 bar basement downtown). Fun place to bring a group of friends, I reckon. Alcohol selection is pretty average, and service is good considering they are serving a billion people a night. Now, I don't know if every time I go my party eyes deceive me or if there are actually a ton of good looking (BUT FUN!) people there. Could be the lights or too many IPAs, but I'm pretty sure I've batted eyes and exchanged numbers with some dudes that are way out of my league here. Baller. read more

Everyone here knew each other .The girls here seemed to be having fun i guess when you aren't in 5 inch heels you should be all smiles ( they were also wearing flip flops) . Busy Friday night but found two spots at the bar. Prompt and attentive service from the bartenders and they were very sweet to us old guys. We shared smoked chicken nachos and the chicken had a ton of smokiness. Couple that with some liquid cheese and that's what nachos are about to me. The right balance of fancy / creative and ballpark simplicity. I had the Cuban sandwich with fries and devoured it - very, very good. My friend had a turkey burger but came with pork belly on it. I didn't mind as I got that as a bonus, but kind of an odd combo for the turkey burger - if you want pork belly you probably get a regular burger. So you may wonder why I was on a quest to taste this vile sounding concoction. Well, I was in Minnesota and lutefisk is the one food readily associated with Minnesotans. Sadly, The Loop didn't serve lutefisk. I settled for the next closest fish entrée on the menu: the seared yellow tail. This may not have been the dish I was on a mission to sample but it tasted a lot like Keillor's description of lutefisk. Tuna prepared rare must be very fresh. My meal was not. My Minnesotan friends had made far better choices in ordering an excellent mac and cheese, and a very good steak sandwich. Perhaps the fact that my two pals, both born and raised in Minnesota, had never tasted lutefisk should tell me something about the Minnesotan specialty. read more

If you make them delicious and something that you call a signature item on your menu, then you get a yelp high five! So up high Loop bar you are great! The loop has served it'a purpose in my life well. I've eaten lunch here during the work week a few times and haven't been disappointed by the service or the food. The crowd at lunch is a lot of hip-Lawyer looking people and these people can probably afford a spendy lunch but choose this spot which must mean something?! I had two very different experiences at the Loop. The first was during a crowded and busy Friday night when the bar was full of drunk college age guys, looking to grope the first girl they laid eyes on. I was not totaly surprised, but given that I had never been I wasn't sure what the atmosphere would be like. After a few drinks I just accepted it and got my groove on, but I didn't think I would return. Alas last night, I fould myself back here. I wanted to go out for a drink on St. Paddy's day but didn't really want to fight a crowd at an Irish pub. I generally like going to this part of town on a week night because it isn't too crowded and you can usually find parking. I guess most people were out downtown because the place was dead, which honestly was fine considering I wanted somewhere low key to grab dinner. I ordered the Asian chicken salad which was gynormous but really tasty. Later my friends and I split the lettuce wraps which were also very good. The only real late night happy hour special they had was half priced martinis, which is not usually my drink of choice. So overall I agree with some of the other reviews, I wouldn't come here on a weekend, but the food is above average for a bar so if you want to chill and watch tv or just chat with friends this place is ok. read more

After seeing some great taps, Brittany and I both chose to go for a beer. Surly and Fulton for $3 apiece. Atmosphere Dim lighting, exposed brick, flat screen TVs. It's got a downtown vibe - think professional dress at 10 pm - and a young crowd, mostly in their 20s and 30s. Service Fine. Our waitress was helpful, but she nor the bartender were very welcoming or friendly. Presentation The composition of the plates was simple. Nothing too fancy for our pizza and apps. Taste I would recommend both the pizzas and the hummus plate. Since they've built my trust, I think I'll try the Walleye Cakes next! Value for Dollars For a beer and a plate full of pizza I paid $8.50 before tax/tip. And with parking costing around 25 cents, I think this Happy Hour is a winner. read more

Loop, you are a bar. Why does your cocktail menu fail so hard? We are not all sorority girls. Have you not heard of gin? Actually, this is the best story ever: when asking if they had any rye behind the bar, the waitress was completely puzzled. This is never a good sign. When the Manhattan comes without a cherry, this is doubly concerning. Still, the food is rather solid (our custom burgers with jalapeno cheddar and fresh jalapenos were delicious, but other items are just so-so bar fare), so at least we didn't end up angry and throwing chairs because we were not satisfied. The Loop is decent enough for what it is: a sports bar. It's not a destination for the discerning diner or drink aficionado. Still, there are MUCH worse out there, and I'd take The Loop over dozens of other bars of its ilk. read more

People, have you tried the Grilled Flank Steak salad? Good lord. I got up early, showered twice, had a clean shave and put on a touch of scented aftershave. The thought of yukon gold potatos entered my mind throughout the morning, then the arugula and the grilled red onion. After a bit more work I wandered off thinking of parmesan. As late morning settled, now hungry, my mouth started watering for balsamic vinaigrette. It was still a fantasy at this point. Then, BAM! The only reason I ever go here is probably cause my friend lives next door and it's convenient for him and it's his local jaunt. Drinks are watered down. Packed on weekends, which isn't bad except that it's a narrow layout and the bathrooms are at the end of the space. Dance floor really not a dance floor. Food is typical bar food. Service often mediocre. It's a great location in the North Loop for nearby residents, but that's really it. There's better places. -------------------------- However, lately service has improved, at least at the bar. And the weekend dj plays better music with newer tunes versus "Salt N Pepper" and the likes. read more

I went to this bar and thought everything was great.... until my bill came. They initially charged me for an extra drink with my dinner. When i disputed this, the bartender said she would fix it. She brought me a new bill with the corrected total and i signed for it with tip. However, the bartender went ahead and added her own EXTRA tip to the total assuming i wouldn't check my bill. She changed the amount of the tip to 26%! That is absolutely unacceptable to do. read more

I took a client to lunch here earlier in the week (shameless way to get to see new restaurants). First of all the smell.. mmmm. They also have a great set up with a good wait staff. I will try the brunch there at some point, if I ever feel like leaving SLP on a weekend. And they actually HAVE ginger ale as opposed to the 1/2 dozen places who tell me "we'll make it for you..". No you wont, that's just sprite and coke you mutant. Anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy I like that when I order a grilled cheese they give me the option of a salad on the side. Also 13 dressings? This is a great place to sit back, have some good drinks and watch the crowd. The location is perfectly nestled in the North Loop. The staff is attentive and works very hard especially on the weekends as this place attracts huge crowds who like drinking and dancing. The food and drinks are very reasonable priced. This place also caters to the sports fans. With large screen TVs everywhere, this is a great place for watching games with friends and fellow sports lovers. This is my second time here and the first time for the breakfast buffet. The buffet is well stocked with salads (Caesar and mandarin) as well as normal items such as bacon. The big surprise was the prime rib that was amazing. I also loved the huge selection of fruit and my bloody Mary was yummy. Only a lack of a star because we sat outside and had to wait for a waitress for a bit. Great atmosphere with plenty of bar seating. If you're looking for more of a "restaurant" then you may be a little turned off as it's more of a bar setting with some booths around the sides. Nice happy hour specials with $3 off all apps, and $3 drinks, glasses of wine and taps. Good place to grab a bite and a couple drinks after work. It does get pretty busy and crowded on weekends, but at least there isn't a cover. Go early and get out as it starts to get packed... unless you like being crammed in elbow to elbow. read more
